Those factories each will employ more than 1,000 workers and cost about $2.3 billion." writes Autoblog: "The new plants were to come later in the decade, but now are expected to be in operation around 2025. They are part of GM's plan to spend $35 billion on electric and autonomous vehicles from 2020 to 2025.

Show #787   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 23rd  May 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   JAY LENO DRIVES THE TESLA CYBERTRUCK, MUSK RIDES SHOTGUN "The newest season of Jay Leno's Garage has started on May 20, 2020 and if you've been keeping updated with the beat, one of the cars that will be featured on the show is the Tesla Cybertruck." Says Motor1.com: "When asked what will be changed in the production-spec, Musk said that they may have made the show car a bit bigger than what's intended. The real thing will be smaller by five percent, although Musk has confirmed that the proportions will be the same. This kind of contradicts with Musk's tweet before, saying that the Cybertruck's width will be closer to 82 inches instead of 80 inches. But then again, we'll never know the actual measurement until the production version becomes a reality, so let's take this with a sprinkle of salt."   @elonmusk: “Reviewed [the Cybertruck] design with Franz last night. Even 3% smaller is too small. It will be pretty much this size [referring to the prototype].”   @elonmusk: “We’ll probably do a smaller, tight world truck at some point.”   https://www.motor1.com/news/424922/tesla-cybertruck-jay-leno-musk/   TRITIUM LAUNCHES WORLD-FIRST “PLUG AND CHARGE” TECHNOLOGY "Tritium, a leader in electric vehicle (EV) DC fast charging technology, has launched its game-changing Plug and Charge solution, the first of its kind in the world available to the market." Says RenewableEnergyMagazine: "The technology, leveraging the ISO15118 standard, enables an electric vehicle and charger to communicate seamlessly and authorize payments directly from the driver’s account, without the need for a card or RFID tag. The Tritium offering is the first to market and is available immediately for charge point operators to deploy on Tritium’s PK350kW DC High Power Chargers.  The technology promises to reshape the customer experience for the driver and enable the once-siloed approach to charging payments to be broken down with disparate charging networks able to interoperate. Drivers will be able to approach a charger, regardless of the charging network operator, and their charge session will be automatically and securely billed from the moment the charger plug connects to the vehicle."   James Kennedy, chief technology officer and co-founder, Tritium: "“Right now, EV drivers approaching an EV charger will likely have to sign up for that network’s system to access it and pay for the charging session, adding unnecessary time to the experience and siloing charger networks; even accounting for the ability to pay by credit card at some chargers this is wildly inconvenient,” he said. “With Plug and Charge, you’ll be able to plug the charger into the vehicle and it just charges, from your battery to your account.”   https://www.renewableenergymagazine.com/electric_hybrid_vehicles/tritium-launches-worldfirst-a-plug-and-chargea-20200522   TESLA NEXT-GEN ROADSTER’S SPACEX THRUSTERS "Standing by the flagship supercar and the newly-released Model Y crossover, Musk and Leno were recently featured in a promo video talking about the next-generation Roadster. Leno, for one, noted that sometimes, Musk’s ideas are so out of this world that he can’t really tell if the CEO is joking or not. Musk responded that when it comes to the Roadster’s rocket thrusters, he actually is serious. He then described exactly how the “main” thruster of the next-generation Roadster works." Says Teslarati.   “We’re gonna use ultra high pressure compressed air. It’s a cold gas thruster. The main thruster will be behind the license plate. So for acceleration, it drops the license plate, and behind the license plate is a rocket thruster. It’s like full-on James Bond,” Musk said.   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-roadster-space-thruster-details-elon-musk-video/   JAGUAR-LAND ROVER WILL BUILD ELECTRIFIED SVO PERFORMANCE MODELS "Jaguar-Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations make the group’s highest performance and most exclusive models, none of which have been electric thus far. However, that will reportedly change as JLR intends to launch SV-branded plug-in hybrids and full EVs in the near future." Says Yahoo News: "Apparently, the reason why the i-Pace won’t be given the SVO treatment has to do with the fact that it sits on a bespoke platform designed specially for it and one that won’t be used to underpin any other vehicle. Yet what this means instead is there will be a hot version of the upcoming XJ saloon, which will be a direct rival to the AMG version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS."   https://uk.news.yahoo.com/jaguar-land-rover-build-electrified-114000590.html   ELECTRIC CARS ARE ABOUT TO START ROLLING OUT OF THE ARIZONA DESERT "Through a series of logistical maneuvers, help from parts suppliers and a bit of good fortune, Lucid executives say they’ve been able to move forward with installation of critical assembly-line equipment such as robotic arms and precision tools including stamping presses and jigs." Reports Bloomberg: "A big contribution of good karma has come from location. Arizona did not prohibit construction work along with much of the rest of the U.S. starting in March. After completing the steel structure in February, Lucid finished the exterior walls and roofing and recently has taken delivery of production equipment from suppliers including Hokuto, a parts-mounting device maker. Equipment manufacturers based in Asia were quick to reopen after Japan, China and South Korea allowed businesses to resume operations. While the initial production volume the company is targeting is in the tens of thousands, the plant has been designed to eventually make as many as 380,000 vehicles. That’s more than the roughly 367,500 vehicles Tesla delivered last year, all of which were built at its plant in California."   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-22/electric-cars-are-about-to-start-rolling-out-of-the-arizona-desert     CONNECTED EVS COULD HELP POWER THE GRID: CALIFORNIA UTILITY STUDIES HOW "Southern California Edison (SCE) plans to launch a demonstration project for "vehicle-to-grid" or "V2G" technology, in which vehicles both charge and discharge power to the grid. More than 200,000 electric cars are currently on the road in SCE's service area, and 700,000 in the entire state of California, a press release from the utility said. A car with a 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack—the size pack used in the Tesla Model S and Model X—could power an average California household for nearly a week, according to SCE." Says Green Car Reports: "The demonstration project aims to see if V2G could lower customers' electric bills in exchange from energy supplied from their cars while connected to the grid. The project will also look at standardization of equipment needed to connect cars to the grid."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1128252_connected-evs-could-help-power-the-grid-california-utility-studies-how   SOLAR ENERGY FARMS COULD OFFER SECOND LIFE FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERIES "As electric vehicles rapidly grow in popularity worldwide, there will soon be a wave of used batteries whose performance is no longer sufficient for vehicles that need reliable acceleration and range. But a new study shows that these batteries could still have a useful and profitable second life as backup storage for grid-scale solar photovoltaic installations, where they could perform for more than a decade in this less demanding role." According to ScienceBlog: "The study, published in the journal Applied Energy, was carried out by six current and former MIT researchers. A recent report from McKinsey Corp. shows that as demand for backup storage for renewable energy projects grows between now and 2030, second use EV batteries could potentially meet half of that demand, Mathews says. Some EV companies, he says, including Rivian, founded by an MIT alumnus, are already designing their battery packs specifically to make this end-of-life repurposing as easy as possible."   https://scienceblog.com/516548/solar-energy-farms-could-offer-second-life-for-electric-vehicle-batteries/   RENAULT LAUNCHES ZITY ELECTRIC CAR SHARING SERVICE IN PARIS Groupe Renault continues the operational deployment of the ZITY electric car-sharing service in Paris. From May 20th, a fleet of 500 100% electric Renault ZOE cars is available to Parisians on a self-service basis. The launch of this service, announced in March and suspended due to containment measures, is being carried out in accordance with the recommendations defined in the national sanitary protocol for exiting containment defined by the Ministry of Transport. Thanks to the ZITY mobile application, users can view on a map, at any time of the day or night, the vehicle closest to their position. Reservation is instantaneous and the vehicle is unlocked via the application. To end the rental, the vehicle must be parked in Paris, on any public square above ground and locked. A guaranteed battery level displayed thanks to the on-board technology in the Renault ZOE ZITY allows all the information on the dashboard, including the battery level, to be displayed in real time. Below the minimum required level, the vehicle is no longer available for hire and is quickly recharged by the ZITY teams.   QUESTION OF THE WEEK   Should Dyson have continued to make a £150,000 EV, or should we only make EVs realistic? Show #710   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 27th February 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Welcome to a new PATREON EXECUTIVE PRODUCER NIGEL MILES Welcome to a new PATREON PRODUCER PONTUS KINDBLAD Welcome to a new PATREON PRODUCER ADAM   MERCEDES-BENZ EQA UNDERGOES WINTER TEST TRIALS IN SWEDEN "The original EQA concept from the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show is now a thing of the past as the namesake production version will switch from a three-door hatchback body style to a five-door crossover. " says Yahoo! News: "Mercedes has already confirmed the final version of its entry-level EV will be revealed sometime this year, and to ease the wait, the German luxury marque has now dropped some images taken in snowy Sweden. A prototype carrying what seems to be the full production body has been photographed while undergoing harsh winter tests as Mercedes strives to make its electric cars work flawlessly even at temperatures well below 0 degrees Celsius.  A boxy EQB serving as the zero-emissions equivalent of the GLB is due to go on sale in 2021."   https://uk.news.yahoo.com/2021-mercedes-eqa-teased-thinly-124000196.html   NIO LAUNCHES PRODUCTION OF THE EC6 The Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio has started production of its third model after the ES8 and ES6. The start of production at the indebted company is also made possible thanks to a framework agreement with the city of Hefei, which is providing Nio with a billion-euro cash injection." writes Chris Randall for Electrive: "The EC6, announced in January, is an SUV coupé that is to be delivered from September onwards and offered with three different battery capacities: 70, 84 and 100 kWh. The latter option is a new liquid-cooled battery package from Nio."   https://www.electrive.com/2020/02/26/nio-launches-production-of-the-ec6/   ELECTRIFY CANADA TO PROVIDE EV CHARGING FOR NEW VW E-GOLF CUSTOMERS Electrify Canada announced its latest step in advancing electric vehicle adoption with a new charging agreement with Volkswagen Canada. This agreement will provide 2020 VW e-Golf drivers with two years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions.   Customers who purchased a 2020 Volkswagen e-Golf can enroll in and manage their charging plan through the newly launched Electrify Canada mobile app, available for Android and iPhone. Drivers can then redeem 30-minute charging sessions at any charging station along the Electrify Canada network.   GROUPE RENAULT AND FERROVIAL TO LAUNCH EV CAR-SHARING SERVICE IN PARIS "Groupe Renault and Ferrovial are launching a ZITY free-floating car-sharing service in Paris. n March 2020, a fleet of 500, 100% electric Renault ZOE cars, equipped with ZITY technology will be made available to Parisians on a self-service basis using a free mobile application. This is a flexible scheme that responds to a strong trend: 20% of the capital's inhabitants use car-sharing." according to FleetNews.co.uk: " The battery levels are guaranteed. The technology on board the Renault ZOE ZITY enables all the information on the dashboard, including the battery level, to be displayed in real time. If the battery falls below the minimum level required, the vehicle is no longer available for hire and is quickly taken in hand by the ZITY teams to recharge it."   https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/smart-transport/news/groupe-renault-and-ferrovial-to-launch-ev-car-sharing-service-in-paris   THE VW THE 1-SPEED GEARBOX  All drive systems for European and North American e-vehicles based on the MEB – including the 1-speed gearbox – are manufactured at the component plant in Kassel.  With a vehicle with a combustion engine, the torque increases along with the engine speed and then falls again. With an electric drive system, however, the maximum torque is available immediately and remains constant over a wide range of speeds. The use of a multi-speed gearbox to achieve the desired speed or the necessary torque along the speed curve is therefore not absolutely necessary.  The maximum speed of 160 km/h is reached at a maximum of 16,000 rpm. For the ID.3 which is optimized for maximum range, the use of a single gear for all driving situations is perfectly adequate.   https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2020/02/in-brief-the-all-rounder-the-1-speed-gearbox.html   MAGNA SHOWCASING EMOBILITY TECHNOLOGIES IN NEW E4 DEMONSTRATOR CAR Magna’s roadmap to e-mobility includes technologies showcased in the all-new e4 technology demonstrator car, which made its debut during the company’s winter test-driving activities in northern Sweden." says Green Car Congress: "The e4 technology demonstrator includes highly integrated PSM-type (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) eDrive systems on the front and rear axle. The unit on the front is equipped with a mechanical differential, while the unit on the rear has a twin-clutch torque vectoring system. Both eDrives, including the gearbox, electric motors, inverters, inverter software, and vehicle control strategy, are developments from Magna."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2020/02/20200227-magna.html   BMW I4 CAUGHT DURING COLD WEATHER TESTING: INTERIOR REVEALED "Ahead of the BMW i4's world introduction at the Geneva Motor Show, we have some spy shots of one in Northern Sweden during cold-weather testing. BMW's upcoming i4 is an extremely important vehicle for the brand. It's basically their first serious swipe at the all-electric premium car segment, with conventional BMW styling." reports Tom for InsideEVs; "In the i4, BMW has made what BMW loyalists have been asking for, an all-electric 5-seater with long-range and BMW performance. It's basically BMW's first real attempt to regain some of the market share they have lost to Tesla. The i4 is rumored to have two battery options, an 80 kWh battery, and a 60 kWh entry-level option with the naming to be i4 80 and i4 60, respectively. The i4 will be available in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions and utilize BMW's "fifth-generation eDrive"."   https://insideevs.com/news/400882/bmw-i4-spy-photos-interior-testing/   THE BMW INEXT IN THE HOTTEST PHASE OF ITS SERIES DEVELOPMENT.  the BMW iNEXT is completing a further chapter of its overall vehicle testing under particularly demanding conditions. Intensive test runs in the freezing cold at the polar circle are now being followed by a contrasting program in the Kalahari in Southern Africa, where in addition to extreme heat and solar radiation, permanent dust formation and off-road terrain with its sand, pebble and gravel tracks pose exceptional challenges for the BMW Group’s technology flagship. In this literally hot phase of the series development process, not only do the drive and suspension components of the BMW iNEXT, a car designed for all-electric mobility, provide proof of their functional safety, durability and reliability, but also the car’s bodywork, interior, driver assistance systems and digitalisation technology.  In temperatures that would drain any mobile phone battery in no time at all, the integrated cooling concept for the high-voltage battery, the electric motor and the vehicle electronics of the BMW iNEXT stands the test. Moreover, the interior air conditioning, which operates by means of thermal pump technology, its control system and all further components of the vehicle electronics are subjected to the extreme conditions of the desert climate in order to prove their series maturity.   Production of the series version of the BMW iNEXT will commence at the BMW Dingolfing plant in 2021. Designed as a modern Sports Activity Vehicle.   https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0305924EN/the-bmw-inext-in-the-hottest-phase-of-its-series-development   2021 SKODA OCTAVIA RS IV FINAL TEASER VIDEO IS ELECTRIFYING "Skoda confirms its plug-in hybrid Octavia RS will match the output of VW's Golf GTE and SEAT's Cupra Leon PHEV" reports Motor1: "Using the same hardware package as the recently unveiled VW Golf GTE and the Cupra Leon PHEV, the Skoda Octavia RS iV will combine a turbocharged 1.4-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor."   https://www.motor1.com/news/400952/skoda-octavia-rs-teaser-video/     NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   How to persuade your friends, family and colleagues to buy an EV?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 235 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Can You Help Me Fight The Fossils? Read More About Patreon here EVne.ws/patreon   Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 16th January 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I can find today, and picked out the ones I think you need to know about.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   My news yesterday that I had quit my day job, and indeed a 25 year radio career, seemed to resonate with people. Either those who had done something similar to chase a dream or those who wanted to.   So to those on Patreon…   JON BEARDY MCBEARDFACE (PARTNER) ASHLEY HILL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) WALTER MACVANE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON KNODEL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BORISLAV BORISOV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JEFF ERBES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER)   WILLIAM ANZUETO (PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (PRODUCER) i3 AND 7KW OF PV! MARK GARNETT (PRODUCER) STE BIRKETT (PRODUCER) – FOUND ME RECENTLY MARTY YOUNG (PRODUCER)   BRUCE HARRISON R W SAVAGE     CLARIFICATION ON THE HARLEY DAVIDSON LIVEWIRE From Sabrina Giacomini at RideApart.com: "However, in recent years, innovation hasn’t been part of the brand’s lingo—its almost as though it’s been sitting on its legacy and relying on that and only that to sell bikes. The LiveWire had the potential to change that and open new doors. While it hasn’t completely failed, I don't believe it has succeeded either. The way I see it, there are 2 reasons for that and here's my two cent about it." So what are those two reasons? And is one of them the range which I told you was my main let down. "Today, people have access to more electric models options than ever and while 110 miles is a decent range for an electric bike, it might not be enough for the LiveWire to stand out of the stylish, efficient, and affordable electric motorcycle crowd. Because now we all know: an electric orange comes at a price. The company announced on Monday that the LiveWire was on track to hit the showrooms this year and that the price tag would be set at $29,799. With young adults dealing with more debt than ever, $30k will be better spent on purchasing a car (or groceries) than a bike." "The company did have the opportunity to bring Alta Motors on board, a well-established competitor in the field of electric bikes that likely would have propelled H-D forward in its electric ambitions. Would a partnership have resulted in a cheaper LiveWire? Maybe not, but Alta's contribution to the project could have meant a sweeter deal for the money." So i got it wrong with 59 miles, I don't think i was looking at the correct number. The Harley website says: "The high-voltage battery, or RESS, provides an estimated 110 miles of range, measured using the MIC mixed-use cycle. Riding range estimates based on current SAE testing of LiveWire concept motorcycle. Actual riding range will vary based on several factors including weather and driving conditions."   https://www.rideapart.com/articles/300795/weekend-wtf-harley-davidson-livewire/   https://www.harley-davidson.com/gb/en/motorcycles/future-vehicles/livewire.html   LYNK & CO'S HATCHBACK DROPS MAJOR CAMO IN NEW SPY PICS "Lynk & Co is progressing with the development of its fourth model which will take the shape of a compact hatchback. This fresh batch of spy photos reveals the company is in the advanced stages of testing as its prototype is featuring less and less camouflage." reports Anthony for Motor1.com: "According to unconfirmed information, the model will be based on the architecture that will also underpin Volvo’s upcoming revamped 40 series of compact cars. The Swedish hatch and small wagon are rumored to go fully electric, but that won’t be the case with Lynk & Co’s sibling. It may seem like a conventional ICE-powered vehicle but underneath the skin should be a compact plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor. This system should be good for a purely electric range of about 50 miles (80 kilometers)"   https://www.motor1.com/news/300930/lynk-co-hatchback-spied/   JAGUAR AFFIRMS FORMULA E COMMITMENT DESPITE IMPENDING CUTS "Jaguar Land Rover revealed last week that it will cut 4,500 jobs from its global operations, with the majority of them hitting management roles in the UK and the company set to start a voluntary redundancy programme." says Alex Kalinauckas for Motor1.com: "But [James] Barclay, the FE squad’s team principal, stated that Jaguar would carry on racing for the “longer-term” as it fits with the manufacturer’s recent drive towards electrification on its road car models. "It’s an unprecedented time for the car industry,” he told Motorsport.com: “A lot of geopolitical factors are affecting the industry at the moment – a slowdown in China, slowdown in diesel sales and we have that small matter of Brexit in the UK, which is affecting consumer confidence. So, we have to take some key decisions now to protect the long-term future of our company. [It’s] really important we make those steps now. But at the same time, we also announced that we’ll be building electric drive units at our engine manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton and also building a battery plant in Birmingham."   https://www.motorsport.com/formula-e/news/jaguar-fe-commitment-job-cuts/4323781/   GAC MOTOR UNVEILS CONCEPT CAR ENTRANZE GAC Motor officially announced that it has registered its North American Sales Company in Irvine, Calif., near Los Angeles. The regional headquarters will be responsible for branding, marketing, product planning and financial affairs. GAC Motor also announced at the press conference that the GAC R&D Center Detroit has officially begun operation. Located in Farmington Hills, Mich., the new R&D center was built with an investment of US$ 4.4 million and encompasses nearly 50,000 square feet of real estate. And as for their new electric concept, it's the ENTRANZE. "The Slick Bullet shaped exterior is completely breathtaking in the real flesh and introduces brand new proportions. New 3+2+2 seating arrangement and ‘aircraft inspired aisle’. Two-side mounted displays for functional feature control, plus curved displays for passenger entertainment. With most of the car made of environmentally sustainable materials, the interior of ENTRANZE is more influenced by home decoration than cars and is a great contrast to the technology and the stark exterior."   https://insideevs.com/gac-entranze-naias-photos-videos/   RENAULT EXPANDS ZOE FLEET IN ZITY CAR SHARING IN SPAIN "The new electric car sharing service Zity in Madrid, Spain turns out to be very popular as 157,000 people used it in the first year." says Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "The fleet of 500 Renault ZOE Z.E. 40 is soon to be expanded by another 150 ZOE to 650 total by the end of January. We don’t know the number of trips, but as many customers were using Zity more than once, it’s maybe on the track to profitability."   https://insideevs.com/renault-zoe-fleet-zity-car-sharing-in-spain/   WHY THE MCLAREN P1 IS A LIVING LEGEND "The 903bhp McLaren P1 is now six years old but remains an awe-inspiring machine. Motorious hosted the McLaren halo car at Autosport International 2019" says AutoClassics.com. Although it's not a Plug In car, it was a very early hybrid supercar. Using the Formula-1 inspired hybrid technology for performance, it was the first of a new breed. These days no supercar would be complete without a big battery so help out the wheezing old fossil engine. And since then we've had fully electric supercars from the likes of the Rimac Concept One, and the Rimac C_Two.   https://www.autoclassics.com/posts/reviews/mclaren-p1-motorious   BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT ON EVS "The day after Christmas, Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave us an unexpected gift. Brake pads on Teslas would “literally never” need to be replaced, he said, thanks in part to the electric car’s regenerative brakes cutting way down on brake pad use compared to a conventional car. That seemed a little too good to be true! But maybe not impossible, exactly" said Erik Shilling of Jalopnik. But then he asked, would an EV maker really say you never need to replace them? He asked Jaguar who said: "The brake pads on the I-PACE do indeed need to be replaced periodically. As you might imagine, the rate at which this is required varies widely owner to owner, based on his/her individual driving style. The battery must be below approximately 80% state of charge in order to receive the full benefit of the resistance of the electric motors. The idea here is that we can’t overcharge the battery and force additional electrons in, if it’s already full, so the resistance provided by the motors gradually does decrease the fuller the battery is requiring the use of the standard braking system." And Erik asked GM: "The regenerative braking feature of the Bolt EV allows the vehicle to decelerate with less use of the vehicle’s base hydraulic brake system. However, the actual mileage that the brake lining’s life could be extended varies due to the parameters under which the vehicle is driven." Tesla didn’t reply to his request for comment but hey if Elon has tweeted, don't correct the boss. Leave it.   https://jalopnik.com/the-truth-about-brake-pad-replacement-in-teslas-and-oth-1831591519   DIESEL POPULARITY ON AUTO TRADER FALLS 40% IN TWO YEARS "Searches for diesel cars on Auto Trader have plummeted 40% over the past two years. The online classified marketplace said the proportion of fuel related searches attributed to diesel on Auto Trader has dropped from a high of 71% in November 2016, to a record low of 47% last month." in a new MotorTrader.com article: "Annually, between 2017 and 2018, there was a 40% increase in consumers searching for AFVs, with electric alone recording a spike of 52%. In just two years, searches for AFVs and pure electric have increased a significant 130% and 179% respectively."   https://www.motortrader.com/motor-trader-news/automotive-news/diesel-popularity-auto-trader-falls-40-two-years-15-01-2019   HACK YOUR WAY INTO A NEW TESLA MODEL 3 "Tesla has been working closely with white hat hackers for years in order to make its vehicle software safer and now it’s taking an unprecedented step: it’s going to be giving away a Model 3 to a hacker who can crack the vehicle." reports Fred Lambert at Electrek: "Over the past 4 years, Tesla has been running a bug bounty program and according to sources familiar with the effort, the company has given away hundreds of thousands in rewards to hackers who exposed vulnerabilities in its systems. The automaker increased its max payout per reported bug to $15,000 last year and it also took a great step in reassuring owners who are hacking their own vehicles. Tesla said that it will not void its warranty when a vehicle is hacked for “pre-approved good faith security research:” But now the top prize being offered is even more valuable, a free car to the winner of a hacking contest.   https://electrek.co/2019/01/14/tesla-model-3-giveaway-hacker/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
