The story of Gypo Nolan, a disgraced IRA man of war in 1920s British occupied Ireland and his willingness to sell out his comrade best friend for a small reward. Victor McLaglen gives an all-time great sweaty performance as Gypo and his descent into guilt, remorse and whiskey until atonement is the only option. An underappreciated classic from John Ford.Other topics include lessons in Irish independence, Ti West's X Trilogy, visiting the Vista and the Music Box Theatre, more 80s hair metal, Riot Fest, The Scissors in Chicago, and the new Films of Faith Scorsese collection.Songs of the WeekTell Me by Catfish HavenTrick or Treat by FastwayRemainders Podcast JukeboxWebsiteFacebookInstagramYouTubeTwitter

An authoritarian ruler moves to invade a smaller country and take it for himself. People around the world rally to that country's defense. Rachel Maddow and Isaac-Davy Aronson explore what we can learn from the very different choices made decades ago, when the world faced a similar challenge.Featuring:Deborah Cohen, the Richard W. We're back, Old Soul family! And we are covering an audience recommendation of a classic novel adaptation: David Copperfield! One of Charles Dickens's own favorite characters, the story of young David is a coming-of-age tale with lovable (and hate-able) characters that influence his life in becoming an aspiring author. This movie came to be out of producer David O. Selznick's love and devotion to his own father...and much to the opposition of his father-in-law (who was head of the studio)! We loved giving our first impressions on a story that has been on many people's bookshelves for over a century! Please Comment, Rate, and Share our episodes and tell us what you like and what you want to hear more of!— Be sure to check us out onOur website: https://the-old-soul-movie-podcast.simplecast.com/FacebookTwitter: @oldsoulpodInstagram: @oldsoulmoviepodcast

In this episode: Since the enactment of the National Labor Relations act of 1935, American collective bargaining law in the private sector has relied on exclusive monopoly representation at the enterprise level. In layman’s terms, a single labor union forcing all employees in a designated portion of an employers’ work force to accept a single union negotiated contract. The unions and their allies have eyed a different approach, that of the social democracies of continental Europe, which practice so-called sectoral bargaining to set nationwide or region-wide contracts, while workplace representation is handled by union-influenced work councils. Joining us today to discuss the expansions of unions’ coercive power and possible alternatives to the current American or European coercive models, is Vincent Vernuccio, the Senior Fellow at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. M. Rexen er aktuel med albummet Tending to the Vulnerable Things (https://open.spotify.com/album/5ecbBxr1Sv4g7DwZ8tBrSt?si=v24R2WqWSP6f_qiW0tSWug). Jack is missing, as he is getting a shave. The scene changes to his ordeal with the Italian barber. Johnny Green plays, Anything Goes. Jack plugs his latest film, then Mary gets in an old gag of misunderstanding words. A nervous and apologetic Kenny Baker makes his appearance. Kenny sings, A Rose in Her Hair. Such a nice start, and what a stinker he would become in later shows. Jack notices the similarities in his and Kenny's names. Jack answers fan mail. A promising beauty queen wants to break into pictures. Johnny plays, Cheek to Cheek. The play is one about movie studios. Mary is the overworked receptionist. Jacck is the busy movie producer who wants it all, and wants it now. The beauty queen from the fan letter shows up, played by Mary Kelley. Running gags just can't keep from showing up in this humorous peek behind the scenes at the busy movie studio. Trivia Alert. Though this is Kenny Baker's first show, bandleader Johnny Green seems to have already made his debut. Johnny replaced longtime band leader, Don Besser, and would only be on the show for this season before being replaced by Phil Harris. Bonus Track: Fred Allen. 1936. Who Killed Rappaport?
Opening is a little choppy before Don and Jack tease each other about recent New Year's Eve celebrations. Mary and Frank Parker tell about their celebrations with an interuption by a man wanting to sell a bulldog. The bulldog gag, of course runs through the show. Don Besser plays, but it is chopped. Jack introduces the play. Frank sings, but it also is snipped. The play begins. A spoof of the famous story. Jack is arrested, and tossed into a French prison. The audio gets a little choppy and skippyu again. Don's song is snipped, then Jack finds himself still in prison years later. Even the old joke about "hair," from previous episodes shows up. Jack makes his escape with the help of... Schlepperman? Bonus Tracks: Cab Calloway. 1935. I Ain't Got Nobody. Graham MacNamee. 1940. Interview with Voice Actor, Charlie Cantor
