Today we're exploring a vital topic to all of us who are looking to evolve, wake up and live in a way which is honouring and life-affirming - decolonisation. When you look at the modern wellness industry in western countries, you can see that it borrows heavily from the ancient traditions of cultures from around the globe - from turmeric lattes, to cacao ceremonies, to yoga classes, to burning sage. There's an important, growing, decolonisation movement which is asking all of us to look more deeply and critically into our own practices, and to ask ourselves how we may be causing harm, and to work to correct it.Our guest today is at the leading edge of this movement, and in our conversation she shares generously about her personal decolonising journey with us, so that we can all work towards - as she says in the intro to her brilliant ‘Decolonising Wellness' podcast - appreciating, not appropriating.Jyoti Rani is a Menstrual Cycle Coach who practices, teaches and embodies a decolonised approach to wellness - rooted in inclusivity, diversity and an honouring of indigenous wisdom. She is also a Yoga Teacher and a big part of her decolonising journey has been reclaiming her Indian heritage and the rich wisdom of Yoga and Ayurveda - “the knowledge of life”, India's ancient healing system - so as an added bonus, we begin and end the conversation learning about Ayurvedic menstrual health. We explore:Dozens of ways to begin decolonising your mind, your life and your wellness practices. How we can decolonise our menstrual cycle - by stepping away from cookie cutter templates of how our cycles ‘should look' and instead cultivating an intimacy with the cycle we have. What Ayurveda recommends we eat on our period---Receive our free video training: Love Your Cycle, Discover the Power of Menstrual Cycle Awareness to Revolutionise Your Life - www.redschool.net/love---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. Menstrual Cycle Awareness is an archetypal experience of inner seasonal strengths and shadows that can bring us into sharp focus of how we express and embody different variations of ourselves across the menstrual cycle. For many its a very powerful self-awareness and empowerment tool, yet there is a tendency for people to think they should experience their cycle just as the textbook tells them, leaving them feeling further disconnection to their body and cycle when it doesn't fit the mould. Today's guest on Wild Flow is here to expand the horizons on who gets to participate in menstrual cycle awareness, and to specifically include people who identify as neurodivergent, queer and those who aren't tapping into their body's rhythm for fertility purposes. Joeli Carparco is a Mindset and Menstrual Cycle Coach for creatives, content creators, and coaches. She works to bring a neuroqueer lens to the menstrual cycle awareness space, by taking the focus off of fertility and even menstruation itself in order to expand the umbrella of who is included and to acknowledge different experiences of having a cycle. Through creating a practice of getting in touch with their body, Joeli helps her clients reconnect with their needs, wants, and desires so that they can have happier, healthier relationships with themselves, others, and their businesses.Joeli's pronouns are she/they, and she identifies as queer and neurodivergent and I am very grateful to Joeli for sharing so much insightful knowledge, wisdom and experience with us in this episode. Its one I hope everyone listens to whether you're queer or neurodivergent yourself and are looking for examples and representation when it comes to understanding how you experience your cycle, whether you're holding space for others in menstrual cycle awareness or wellness, and whether this is something you're listening to and learning about for the first time. Joeli and I chatted about:How Joeli realised their neurodivergence was exacbated by their cycle and what it looks like for them with ADHD and Autism, in life and business,What neuroqueering the menstrual cycle means, what it looks like in action, and why its important,How the menstrual cycle awareness space usually excludes non cis-gendered and neuro-normative people (even if unintentionally), and how that feels for Joeli. How coaches and space holders especially can be more inclusive of menstruation beyond charting fertility and connecting to the womb, by using better language and the ‘follow-through', especially if you're not sure of what the right wording or actions you can take are,How Joeli linThanks so much as ever for supporting me to host Wild Flow Podcast! Her work on healing with Qi has been unique in its efforts of unearthing the ancient science behind native Chinese medical practices and bringing forth a narrative which is the Taoist perspective on the universe for physical and mental wellness. She is the one of the leaders in Taoist Qi Global Healing Program, and also works as a TCM practitioner in healing centers and educator in Taoist Qi Therapy Institution. She started her journey as a disciple in an ancient school and began to conduct training with her master since 18, in hopes of healing her own health issues since childhood, through systematic study of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, Chinese healthcare ways of Yang Sheng and other ancient healing practices such as Qigong, Taoist meditation, alchemy, and Qi diet. Ten years later, she began to heal patients with various physical and mental issues such as chronic and acute disease, COVID and sub-health conditions, emotional trauma, depression or mental illness in clinic centers, and gradually took up leadership roles on the Global Healing Program. Since the COVID-19 era from 2019 to 2021, this program which she is one of the key leads, had successfully trained over 1000 Qi healers to help more than 375,000 people to prevent COVID-19 and heal post-COVID conditions in China. Since 2022,in order to heal people worldwide, her program spread to the globe, with the aim of benefiting millions of people in more than 30 countries and 100 regions worldwide, with a focus on places with epidemics, wars, or natural disasters, and trains 1,000 Qi healers worldwide Website: www.taoistqi.com Facebook: @taoistqi Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/taoistqi CONNECT WITH JYOTI: Jyoti (she/her) is the Founder of My Wellness Company, Yoga Teacher and Menstrual Cycle Coach. Lindsay was planning for a homebirth with her first pregnancy, but went over 42 weeks & was coerced into going to the hospital for an induction after the natural induction techniques she was using weren't working. After this experience she learned more about advocating for herself and found a different midwife group that wouldn't force her to go to the hospital if she went past 42 weeks again. She got her homebirth! Finally with her third pregnancy, she had a wild pregnancy (no scans or tests) & a free birth at home with her husband & doula friend present. Lindsay has such a beautiful story of evolution through pregnancy & birth. Join me as I journey with Delia through her own story with communication and her partner. We have an in-depth conversation about: *Communication with significant other *How to bring yourself back to communication when times are tough *How Shamanic healing helps us get very clear on what is going on within us *How looking at our partner and ourselves individually helps us to regenerate our relationships *How changing our mindset around challenge points helps foster better relationships Some of my favourite quotes: 'Our brain is logging somewhere around 96 million pieces of data every single day. That is ALL communication-inner and outer.' 'Everyone is different and if you get to that point where you think communication is over, ask yourself one question-Do you still want to be with this person? Does your heart still beat for them?' 'How are you contributing to this relationship? This movie reel showed me all the times I was mean, I put myself first, and pushed him away when he was trying to be affectionate. The answer was not much.' 'The energy you are giving off, that's communication.' Human Design Profile ABOUT DELIA I spent three decades searching for where I belong and to learn something that would give me purpose and meaning in the world. What I discovered though, is that I was longing to reconnect with the Earth and the stories hidden in my bones. I was thirsty for the deep richness of living a more mythic life and sensing into all that was around me in nature. As this journey deepened, I remembered -- I belong everywhere and I exist. This is my purpose. It is my absolute honour to serve in my community the wisdom and experiences I have nourished so that it may nourish the remembering and connection within you also. Fertility challenges are more common than we realise-'1 in 8 women (1 in 6 in Canada) suffer a fertility challenge. And those are the ones that speak out.' Some of my favourite takeaways are: *'Pregnancy isn't a sign of health.' *'How can the rest of your body regenerate but your eggs can't? It doesn't make sense.' *'I'd like to say my drive to become a mother was what pushed me but, if I am honest, it was the people telling me I couldn't do it.' *'When you see your little wins, that is what keeps you going.' I had SUCH a great time chatting with Masha on this episode of the Sarah Explains It All Podcast! We talked all about how to become the best version of ourselves and some tips to help us along the way :) Below are some of my favourite quotes from the episode: *'Take the time and effort to do things for yourself.' *'It is important to remind yourself of what you thought was fun before.' *'Nature can be such a good teacher to teach us how to be present and be still.' ABOUT MASHA: Masha Borisova is an expert, certified, holistic health coach and an ex yo yo dieter herself who shifted through an array of sizes during her adulthood, tried different diets and methods which led to her finding what works for her. As a result, it improved not only her image & health but her relationship with herself. Now it's her mission to help other women just like her, who are ready to ditch the hamster wheel of diet culture so they can feel sexy in their clothes, confident in the bedroom, and love their reflection no matter what. Masha is a visionary leader in the world of health and wellness, transformation enthusiast, diet and exercise culture myth buster, proponent of body neutrality movement, and as she says, 'I'm not your healer or guru, YOU ARE!' People know her as the health coach who doesn't believe in counting calories, prescribing meal plans or pushing through at the gym and instead empowers women to discover and enjoy what works for them, while building her dream home in Colorado with her partner and their two pups. She says: "What you might not know is this: The best version of yourself is not necessarily the skinnier, more toned, tan, younger, cellulite-free. The best version of yourself is the happiest one. Focus on that and everything will fall into place' You can find her over on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourguidemasha/ HER FREEBIE: Grab your free Happy Body Guide here: https://happybody.yourguidemasha.com/ (Lifestyle, diet and exercise guide for women who are tired of starving themselves and slaving away at the gym with little or no results) ABOUT SARAH: I am a Menstrual Cycle Coach who teaches women business owners how to harness the power of their natural energy cycles to avoid overwhelm and burnout and to be more productive and create more success in their lives and businesses. What a fascinating journey to go on with Tonia to see how becoming an advocate for herself helped her to discover and heal her body of excruciating pain every month during her bleed. We talk about how it started and what it took to go to the doctor for another opinion, how society has taught us that 'doctors are always right' and we are taught to 'trust them'. Some favourite topics we cover are timeline clearing and what trauma is and how we can distinguish between 'Big T' and 'Little T' trauma. Some of my favourite quotes from this journey: *'So many women can resonate with a story of not having the best menstrual cycles.' *'That is just who you are and that is so disheartening.' *'I had never asked to be referred, that advocacy for myself, I didn't have it in me at that time'. *'I was scared all the time, in fear all the time, of what the next period would be like.' *'I was feeling hopeless.' *'This fall has been miraculous and I don't feel afraid all of the time.' ABOUT TONIA: Dr. Tonia Winchester has been in practice as a Naturopathic Doctor since 2007. Now, as a brain-based transformation coach, she uses contemporary neurological reprogramming techniques to help women break through burnout, stress, anxiety, and fatigue and find joy and energy again so that they can create exceptional lives for themselves, their families and communities. She guides her clients through a "Breakthrough" process where they easily and gently clear the past, and recode their unconscious minds so that they are primed to make and sustain positive changes in how they take care of themselves. The results are a strengthened connection to self - more self-love, worth, and value, ultimately allowing them to build happy, meaningful relationships and compelling futures. Tonia has been featured on CTV, the Costco Connection, The Elephant Journal, Conscious Nutrition, The Autoimmune Simplified Podcast, the Better Sex Podcast, Creative Conversations, and the New Generation Entrepreneur Podcast. She is an executive contributor at Brainz Magazine writing monthly articles. When she's not transforming lives she is getting lost (and found) in the forest, salsa dancing, and turning paper into pretty things. Probably not. And honestly, I don't blame you. That's because, for generations, we've been told our menstrual cycles are gross, dirty, and shameful. Instead of celebrating this divine part of ourselves, we're told to ignore it, feel ashamed of it, or hide it. When I started connecting with my cycle and syncing my food, movement and self-care I became more focused, better at problem-solving, less stressed and more empowered. I felt happier and more like my true authentic self. I learned to give myself grace on the days i felt down, knowing that I'd soon feel much better and get everything on my to-do list done. When you harness the power of your period, you stand fully in your power. You stop living from a place of smallness and start living in the light. Your menstrual cycle is truly the light within.
