It's simultaneously wonderful and worrying to launch a kid. The most common denominator question is a version of this: Are they going to be ok when they leave us? We hope – and wonder – if we've taught them enough to be out in the world. Christina Geist spent her oldest child's senior year of high school compiling those life lessons in Before You Fly Away. Her musings are as heartfelt as they are practical, whether you have a child who is about to fly the nest, one who flew away long ago, or one so young you can hardly imagine that stage of life. Fr. Daniel Alloy, FSSP has served as Parochial Vicar at Regina Caeli Parish in Houston, Texas since July of 2022. He was ordained in June of 2020. In Today's Show: Do you anticipate the Traditional Latin Mass will grow and flourish in a very big way the next 10-20 years? I was wondering what the proper etiquette is whenever a priest is entering/exiting the church for mass? My parish largely bows to the priest but I've heard that that is not appropriate. Should Catholic men listen to Andrew Tate? How to properly forgive and forget I've heard a traditional priest once say that if the Godfather isn't holding the baby while the baby is being baptized, he is not a valid Godfather. Is this true? Father's stance on the Neocatechumenal Way What does the church teach about self defense such as karate? Are Catholics allowed to use self defense? Are any of them based in other religions that we should avoid? Can saints and angels hear our mental prayers? Converting for the sake of marriage - is it a "true" conversion? When I went to the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Scapular Mass, I forgot to bring my Scapular. Do I need to get that blessed or, rather, is it the person who is blessed? How do we help Jerusalem and the Christians? During the solemn high mass, the sub deacon wears a certain type of veil and he carries the patent during the offertory. What's the significance? How many of the "extra" biblical miracles are Catholics obliged to believe? At a sung mass, why are the laity instructed to sit during the creed? I'm new to the Latin Mass but interested in attending. Is it okay if I just follow along silently, or am I expected to respond in Latin? It can be really hard to gauge what tweens + teens actually know about the biggest ticket topics. That's because, in this age of information, they are pummeled with “facts” about sex, drugs, alcohol, nutrition, wellness, and so much more. It can seem like they have encyclopedic knowledge sometimes… until you get past the confident tone and actually listen to what they are saying. This episode will make you feel less alone (you are not the only one who has been dumbfounded by an adolescent!) and help you help them sort fact from fiction. Parents know better, right? Maybe. While we may have brains mature enough to anticipate what's coming down the road 5, 10, 20 years from now (and the lived experiences to back it up), we can't force our kids to care about the things we deem important. This power struggle occurs throughout the tween + teen years, on everything from minor issues like wearing deodorant to major tensions like grades or substance use. How can we adults learn to manage our own feelings while simultaneously finding ways to inspire our kids? This hilarious and personal episode is packed with that advice. Setting boundaries takes practice: kids need to learn this skill and most adults need to evolve it. Practically speaking, boundary-setting starts with drawing lines on our kids' behalf. In doing so, we show (more than tell) what is (and isn't!) okay for strangers, family, and friends to do and say — from comments about body changes or clothing choices to judgments about life paths. The trick is to set boundaries while still encouraging connection, because we want kids to learn about limits without walling themselves off. Do corporate innovators truly innovate, or are they trapped inside systems that make real transformation impossible? On this episode of The Innovation Storytellers Show, I speak with Elliott Parker, CEO of Alloy Partners and author of The Illusion of Innovation. Drawing on decades of experience launching startups with High Alpha and advising Fortune 100 companies at Innosight, Elliott explains why most corporate innovation efforts fall short. He outlines how organizational structures, incentives, and short-term metrics often prevent innovation teams from achieving the transformation they are tasked with delivering. Elliott also breaks down the critical difference between execution problems and learning problems, and why most corporations confuse the two. Elliot shares how Alloy builds startups outside the core business, giving them the freedom to take risks, run fast experiments, and uncover opportunities that internal teams cannot reach. These external ventures enable corporations to explore innovative ideas, validate assumptions, and acquire the type of knowledge that drives long-term strategic advantage. Whether you are running an innovation team, funding one, or simply wondering why they rarely deliver game-changing results, this episode offers sharp insights, real examples, and a practical framework for thinking differently about how innovation works.

Fr. Daniel Alloy, FSSP has served as Parochial Vicar at Regina Caeli Parish in Houston, Texas since July of 2022. He was ordained in June of 2020. In Today's Show: I was wondering if members of other apostolic churches like Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, etc. are allowed to receive Holy Communion in the Catholic Church. If so, what are the conditions that must be followed? Why do we use the term “Godfather” when there is only God the Father almighty? Do our souls have a gender? At the resurrection, since our bodies and souls will be reunified, will there be any need for us to eat? I know that things like witchcraft and sorcery or anything dealing with occult powers is dangerous and wrong, but my teenage son is fascinated by magic, meaning the kind of magic that involves the art of illusion. Is there any danger in this? How are we not cannibals if we eat the body of Our Lord? Regarding the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, I've heard conflicting "reasons" given for that. Most say homosexuality, but I've seen people on YouTube make arguments for other causes. Which is correct? To join the FSSP these days, do you have to consciously reject the SSPX? In seminary, what's taught on the SSPX? When discerning, why choose FSSP? What happens to the laity if a church is declared schismatic? Houston heat and Tex-Mex cuisine! Is the name Yahweh specifically connected to God the Father or to all of the persons of the Trinity? Does playing board games with your family/children count as leisure and how can we talk to someone who desires too much leisure or recreation? I was at High Mass today for the Feast of the Precious Blood. Can you explain a little about the roles of deacon and subdeacon? Where is St. Joseph buried? Can you talk about what it means for women to wear veils, why the law was changed, and why you think it seems to be coming back? The fine line between informing and oversharing is tricky to navigate, especially when it comes to topics like puberty, sex, and drugs. On the one hand, kids need information; on the other, we must take into account things like personality, communication style, and desire for privacy, not to mention set boundaries according to their developmental stage. So when does sharing information cross over into too much information? This episode has the answer and so much more. Show Notes: Join our LESS AWKWARD ESSENTIALS Get your Alloy prescription today. Sometimes, it takes a life-altering moment to expose how broken certain systems really are. Being diagnosed with cancer is terrifying on its own, but when that's paired with financial exploitation and desperation, something inside you changes. You stop waiting for help and start figuring out how to build something better—something that doesn't just serve you but protects others from the same pain. It's not about inspiration; it's about necessity forcing bold action. Brandon Aversano, Founder and CEO of Alloy, turned a cancer diagnosis into a mission-driven business. Frustrated by the shady gold-selling process, he launched The Alloy Market to bring transparency and fairness to an outdated industry. With experience at JP Morgan Chase and JetBlue, he blends financial smarts with a customer-first mindset. His platform makes it easier and safer for everyday people to sell gold without getting ripped off. Brandon's story is proof that hardship can spark real innovation. Stay tuned!
