Welcome back to Music Maniacs W/ Sight After Dark! In this episode, we had the pleasure of sitting down with two thirds of @GaleBirdMusic Gale Bird is a fantastic Charleston South Carolina based Country Rock band that is reshaping American folk/pop music one song at a time. We sat down for in-depth conversation; discussing topics ranging from work-life balance, to how being parents has influenced their work as musicians, to the emotional magic that only music can convey. As always, we went on a few maniacal tirades along the way. Enjoy! ________________________________________________________________________ Do you love Music, and Music History, with a side of Comedy? Well you're in the right place! Sight After Dark (Singer Sifa Graffiti and Guitarist Dan Berg) is a band out of Brooklyn, NY that loves two things: 1) Talking Music. 2) Cracking Jokes. One day we were sitting around, discussing our favorite artists, and thought: ”if this isn't a podcast, we don't know what is!” Basically, Instead of keeping our musical conversations to ourselves, we decided to record them for all to hear. Come along as we discuss music, and whatever maniacal topics our brains decide to cover at the time. [In honor of Black History Month, we're highlighting some past conversations recorded with some former guests with diverse experiences]On June 17th, 2015, nine African Americans were gunned down during a bible study the shooter had been welcomed into with open arms. One of the victims, Myra Thompson, was the wife of today's guest, Reverend Anthony Thompson.Through the telling of his story of those dreadful days, more clarity is given on how that tragedy unfolded behind closed doors and why. We also believe listeners will hear a story of miraculous forgiveness in a man's heart. This miracle potentially was the catalyst of sparing Charleston SC from similar rioting that recently occurred in other parts of the country for other racially charged injustices. We believe in this time of great polarization, the message of forgiveness is an important one. Time to kick back and catch up with the gang in our first "information whiskey" episode of the year. After starting 2026 with our Ultimate Guide series and that marathon session with Dr. Paul Craig, we're taking a breather to hang out, share some flying stories, and tackle your feedback.Ben kicks things off with a tale of terrible timing - how a flat nose tire and an MD-88 pilot who was "stuck" (but not really stuck) turned a simple night cross-country into an evening of airport ground operations. Meanwhile, Brian's been surviving Nashville's ice apocalypse while grinding through the final stages of instrument training, complete with shoulder harnesses and a healthy dose of reality about how IFR actually works versus how it's taught. We dive deep into Brian's theory that instrument flying is "interpretive dance" rather than the precise, procedural flying it's marketed to be. Spoiler alert: holds aren't what you think they are, and ATC doesn't care about your perfect entry technique.Plus, we celebrate some amazing listener accomplishments - from glider add-ons to ice runway landings to solo cross-countries - and address the burning question: do non-flying spouses actually listen to aviation podcasts? (Spoiler: some do, and we want to hear from them!)Featuring Thaden Invasion updates, washing machine turbulence scales, and why sometimes the best thing to do is just wait 15 minutes for the weather to change.Mentioned on the show:* RYY - Cobb/McCollum Field: https://www.airnav.com/airport/RYY* FAA WINGS program: https://www.faasafety.gov/* CCO - Coweta County Georgia: https://www.airnav.com/airport/KCCO* PUJ - Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport: https://www.airnav.com/airport/KPUJ* Flight Insight, Going Missed on a Circling Approach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJiEuHWF5B8* Flight Insight, the VOR Flower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm7XxyzZFh0* Columbia Cascade 99's winter raffle: https://www.columbiacascade99s.org/store/p/2025-2026-winter-raffle* IFR6 - accelerated IFR training, Charleston SC: https://ifr6.com/* TOA - Torrance California: https://www.airnav.com/airport/KOTA* EP46 - Flying With Your Spouse: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep46-flying-with-your-spouse/id1591463789?i=1000632568750Visit midlifepilotpodcast.com for more content, merch, and our free Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Midlife Pilot. . Guest Author: Victor Davis Hanson. Headline: The Shift from Melting Pot to Tribal Division. Summary: Hanson laments the abandonment of the "melting pot" ideal in favor of tribalism and identity politics, which he believes fracture the nation. He argues that elites are replacing "equality of opportunity" with "equality of result," utilizing Orwellian language controls to rewrite history and silence opposition to these radical cultural changes.1861 ST. MICHAEL'S, CHARLESTON SC
Guest: Professor Richard Carwardine. Carwardine explains that President-elect Lincoln did not view Republicans as overly aggressive, positioning himself as a constitution-respecting centrist rather than a radical. Lincoln opposed slavery's expansion but acknowledged its constitutional protection where it already existed, believing the South was misled by elites and would eventually return to the Union. Ironically, Lincoln and Buchanan, though political opposites, worshiped at the same Washington church, sharing an old-school Presbyterian background.1861 ST. MICHAEL'S, CHARLESTON SOUTH CAROLINA

Lots of work to do—lets get to it—Here are 3 big things for this hour— Number One— Back in the saddle! And ready to roll! I will share some stories of the long weekend—we spent that time in Charleston South Carolina—and what an adventure it was— Number Two— While I was away the FBI brought down a planned terrorist attack that would have targeted the LGBTQ community in Ferndale—not far from Detroit—now two Michigan men are in jail on multiple charges— Number Three— Today is not just another Election Day—it's D-Day for the soul of America. I'm talking about the fight for our very way of life, the battle against the creeping rot that's turning our shining cities on a hill into godforsaken socialist city-states.

Send us a textHi everybody and welcome to Attendance Bias. I am your host Brian Weinstein. We are at the halfway point of the tour by now, having just visited the Schottenstein Center in Columbus for the first time, it is now time to visit an old favorite: The North Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, South Carolina for a THREE NIGHT weekend run! A city brimming with both American history and Phish history, we are lucky enough today to be joined by Charleston native Dave Scozarro who tells us about both: places to see, things to do, and highlights from Phish's 35 years playing The Holy City. In a sense, you can track Phish's entire career arc by keeping track of the venues they've played in Charleston since 1990. From small clubs, to larger clubs, to small theaters, and finally, the N. Charleston Coliseum. They moved in in 1995 and never left. Sure, they played two shows at the local tennis stadium a few years ago, and Dave explains why it may not be such a great idea for the Phish crowd for them to continue there. But there's so much to love about both Charleston and the coliseum. World-class food in the city, general admission seating in the venue, and almost four decades of music to dig into. Let's join Dave as he prepares us for July 11, 12, and 13 in Charleston.

Sidney is based out of sunny Charleston, South Carolina, where he sits as Vice President of Horticulture at Middleton Place - a historic home and garden there is believed to be the oldest landscaped garden in America. Camellias were first planted in America near the end of the 18th century in the four corners of Henry Middleton's parterre, overlooking the Ashley River. Sidney shares with us the historic legacy of Camellias at Middleton Place and gives us some fun tips and tricks on how to care for these magnificent plants.
