Brad Guigar has categorized the information shared by creative individuals into three groups. Dave Kellett has a couple of his own to contribute. Of the five, only one is useful. Identifying the others can help you avoid making some significant mistakes.Today's showTypes of information creative people shareUPDATE: Brad Guigar celebrates 25 years in comicsStory pacingSummaryIn this episode, Brad and Dave discuss the information shared among creative individuals, categorizing them into facts, marketing, and herd mentality. The discussion highlights the importance of discerning between genuine facts and marketing tactics. Dave suggests the list should include misinformation and bad actors in the creative community. In this episode, Dave Kellett and Brad Guigar discuss the realities of book signings, networking, and celebrating milestones in one's career, particularly in the comic industry. They share personal anecdotes about their experiences and reflect on the mental health benefits of recognizing achievements. The conversation then shifts to writing advice, focusing on story pacing, exposition, and actionable strategies for aspiring writers to improve their craft.TakeawaysSharing information among creatives is essential for growth and learning.Facts are verifiable truths that can help guide creative decisions.Marketing often skews perceptions and can lead to poor decision-making.Herd mentality can mislead creatives into following trends without critical thinking.Misinformation can come from well-intentioned but uninformed sources.Bad actors exist in the creative community, and caution is necessary.Understanding the difference between marketing and facts is crucial for success.Social media is primarily a marketing tool for many creators.  Book signings often don't attract large crowds.Celebrating career milestones can boost mental health.Reflecting on past achievements can provide motivation. Each page of a comic should be satisfying on its own.Writers should focus on manageable story lengths.Use visuals effectively to enhance storytelling.Avoid information dumps in storytelling.Create tension through micro-tension techniques.Leave breadcrumbs for readers to follow in the narrative.     You get great rewards when you join the ComicLab Community on Patreon$2 — Early access to episodes$5 — Submit a question for possible use on the show AND get the exclusive ProTips podcast. Greeting everyone, You know me as the voice of our Dark Dice world, the game master, Travis Vengroff. And you may remember me as the voice of Sister Cavernsfall, or the writer behind some of our frightening moments, K. A. Statz. Today, we're taking our own roll of the Dark Dice.  We want, or perhaps need, to know what you, our listeners, want from us as a creative team. We have started to expand further into the Tabletop Roleplaying space over the last year; expanding our ttrpg publications, running games at live events like D&D in a Castle, speaking at Comic Conventions, and more. And now we want to know how much further we can take this. We have amazing, horrific ideas for future adventures, and have TTRPG dreams that we can only explain as… excessive.  As a tiny company operating mostly out of our apartment, we can only make ideas come to life through support from listeners. So, here's our idea; If we can get 2,500 Patrons on our Patreon by the 12th of May, we will make Dark Dice our focus, not just a hobby, and we will dedicate our days and nights to create a brand new terrifying story each year, with seasonal releases every two weeks (or more if we're able) - starting with this summer, and make make these seasonal releases part of our yearly production schedule. As Fool & Scholar Productions we have released a lot of stories and podcasts to the world, and we are reaching out to you so we can learn which of our endeavors interests our audience the most.  There will also be a poll for patrons on our Patreon very soon, so we can further hear from you about where your interests in our stories lie [read as "NEW BONUS CONTENT"].  Thank you for everything, and remember… Never play games of fate.  [Eezo bark.] Patreon.com/foolandscholar Learn more about your ad choices.
