After finding success with Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Krayzie Bone recorded his solo debut, Thug Mentality 1999, in 1999. The album was released as a double disc set, featuring a large selection of guest appearances, including Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Mo Thugs, Mariah Carey, ThugLine, The Marley Brothers, Big Pun, Fat Joe, Cuban Link, Gangsta Boo, E-40, 8 Ball & MJG, Kurupt, Naughty By Nature and Snoop Dogg. The album was largely produced by multi instrumentalist Romeo Antonio and was certified platinum by the RIAA. In 2001, Krayzie Bone released Thug On Da Line, which received generally positive reviews from music critics and went gold. In 2005 Krayzie Bone was featured in the song "Ridin'" by Chamillionaire. "Ridin'" was awarded "Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group" at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards. It was also nominated for Best Rap Song. It became number one in December on the Pop Chart 3 months after its physical release. The song also topped the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart when it was released there. The song ranked #3 on Rolling Stone's "100 Best Songs of 2006" and #91 on VH1's "100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop". It was the best selling ringtone in 2006, with 3.2 million sales, certified by the RIAA as the first multi-platinum Mastertone artist in history. It was also awarded the last Best Rap Video at the MTV Video Music Awards, which was awarded in 2006. Krayzie Bone comes from a fourth generation family of Jehovah's Witnesses, and as such does not celebrate Christmas. He believes many rappers are unintentionally following the agenda of the Illuminati.[9] On September 24, 2023, Krayzie Bone was admitted to a hospital in Los Angeles after coughing up blood in his sleep, what was later attributed to sarcoidosis. Doctors were unsuccessful in an emergency surgery. On September 26, he was sedated due to a main artery in his lung leaking. However, on October 3, he announced he had recovered from the ailment. Krayzie Bone also has a thriving foundation called "Spread The Love" that mentors and teaches at risk youth life skills and about the music business. Learn more about your ad choices. We played Hip Hop Roulette where we ask our guest a list of questions related to Hip Hop History. We did Bars with Cuban Link where we rhymed some of his classic bars and he had too guess what song it was from and we added a little bonus with some Big Pun rhymes as well. To close it all out we talked about his debut album that leaked 24K and what was the cause and much, much more. We appreciate having this legend on and look forward to what he has coming new for his fans. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week LMGMHP invites independent recording artist, Malik Elijah, into the All Artist Studio. With a sound influenced by hip-hop artists like Ab-Soul and Mick Jenkins, Elijah guides the team through his wordsmithing process and shares how an early relationship with music set the tone for sharpening his craft – culminating in his most recent EP, “Smoke Signal”. Join the conversation as Elijah talks new music and more on this week's All Artist Series. https://soundcloud.com/crittersbythewindowMalik Elijah aka Malik Gaither was taught by his father at age 4 to play the drums. Since that day, Malik's love for music has only grown. Originally from Upper Marlboro, MD, Malik is currently based in Taunton, MA. After learning the drums, Malik joined choir, both at school and at church. This, along with listening to some of his favorite artists like Kanye West, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar, inspired him to start writing music, specifically in the genre of alternative hip-hop around the age of 13. Fast forward nearly a decade later, Malik would continue to draw inspiration from the next generation of hip-hop, especially Wiz Khalifa, Mick Jenkins, and IDK. As he puts it on his song, “sfts,” he also “studied Ab-Soul,” not only to “illuminate [his] mind,” but also to enhance his skills as a wordsmith. All of this together pushed Malik to start releasing music, starting with the self-produced, King Of The Critters on SoundCloud in 2017.Then in 2018, Malik Elijah would release Lazy along with producer, Ciro Mont. Highlighted by the opening track, “Believe It,” the project sounds something like the crossroads of dance music and hip-hop. In the two years following, an improving Malik would return with his next two projects, Medium Volume EP and Free Lemonade with standout track, “Cuban Link.” Since these releases, Malik Elijah has focused on single releases, most notably, the EDM club banger, “Kayakontheriver” featuring William Crooks, “Icannotbethem” featuring Nuke Franklin, and “Blinding” featuring ICECOLDBISHOP. In July 2022, Malik Elijah released his album, DETOUR with standout tracks, “QUIETDOWN,” “ATITAGAIN” featuring Isaac Zale and Nuke Franklin, and “NOWHERE” featuring Marco Plus. He followed up DETOUR with the three-track bundle, Smoke Signal in March 2023, highlighted by Support the showStay connected with our podcast after each episode. At the end of the 20th Century, hip-hop group Terror Squad was poised to become one of the most promising crews in rap-music history. Headed by Fat Joe and featuring a ton of Latino emcees from the Bronx like Cuban Link, Armageddon, Prospect, and Triple Seis – the roster of this talented bunch would fluctuate over the years but the crown-jewel was most definitely Big Pun -- short for Big Punisher – the first Latino artist to ever go platinum with his debut solo album “Capital Punishment”. Unfortunately, not long after the release of the group's debut album, Big Pun, well, he'd pass away as a result of poor health. This would throw the future of Terror Squad into upheaval. After years of in-fighting between its other members, particularly Fat Joe and Cuban Link, Terror Squad simply disappeared into the ether as its members began to focus on their solo careers. But how did Cuban Link end up with a knife-slash to the face and what did Fat Joe have to do with it? If you know what happened, fill us in down below. Everyone else, keep watching our newest episode of Where Are They Now!

Cuban Doll is a rapper/model hailing from Dallas, Texas. Rapping since the age of eighteen, the performer has been lightening up social media with not only hot photos but bangin' hip-hop tracks. Now I said in our last profile of the rapper that she was on the cusp of becoming a household name. Based on the news this week, the may just happen. Also known as Cuban da Savage, the Lone Star State rapper has released two popular mixtapes, Cuban Link and Aaliyah Keef, and breaking out into the industry with the track Bankrupt. She has also been involved in highly publicized feuds with Asian Doll as well as a domestic abuse scandal involving a boyfriend and Chief Keef associate Tadoe. Eyes are now on her for different reasons. On December 4th, 2018, amid reports of Cardi B and Offset getting divorced, Cuban Doll's name began circulated as a potential reason for the split and that's what we're here to talk about.

In this Episode 36 of Out Da Box hosts Cril and A-Level talk Hip Hop News and Giving Homage. The show starts off with a R.I.P. and recognition to the late, talented Emcee "Malik B", the segues into "Black Thought" and his upcoming Streams Of Thought Vol. 3 LP with producer "Sean C". Raekwon's 25th Anniversary of his Classic Album "Only Built 4 Cuban Link" and the anticipation for a Part 3. We also take a serious critique of "Meme Culture" and its negative effects in general, but specifically recently to Black Women in response to Artist "Megan Thee Stallion" recently being shot in her feet, and the status of the highly anticipated Black Star Sophomore LP. We also speak on Lupe Fiasco's insight that he recently reached out to Nas with the interest of collaborating on a new project, and the conversation segues into lots of talk about Nas, the producers he's chose to work with over the years, and who we both would like to see him collaborate with. The show closes out on a Classic note, highlighting the successful Verzuz battles and dialoguing on the possibility of a Classic KRS-One vs LL Cool J or Rakim Verzuz. Host Cril and A-Level both dissect the possibilites of both matchups and their outcomes as well as which matchup actually is a better one. Overall this Show was fun to do, and it was pretty cool to have co-host A-Level back for another show. Note: Full show in now available on Youtube at OutDaBoxTV

Hasan Harris a.k.a Hocus 45th was born in Harlem and raised in the Bronx. Hocus’ love affair started at the early age of 8. Introduced to the art by his father, Hocus 45th use to rap to his father who told him that he was going to make it big one day. Tragically, his father who was his hero, mentor and best friend died from a heart attack when Hocus was only 12-years-old; leaving behind 8 sons and 2 daughters. Devastated by his father’s death, but still dedicated to the art form, Hocus 45th hit the streets looking for that connection he once shared with his dad. Unfortunately, as with many fatherless young boys, the streets got to him first. As a young teen, Hocus 45th started to sell drugs (crack cocaine) in the ‘hood. And when he was 17, he joined a gang known as SEX MONEY MURDER which would later haunt him in ways he could not have imagined. While doing his thing in the streets, Hocus 45th caught a couple of court cases ranging from attempted murder, direct sales and gun possession. Luckily for him, he either found his way around those charges or ended up doing little jail time. When he wasn’t dealing drugs, he would join cyphers in the streets and perfect his skills. By know he was getting noticed for his flow. In 2008, along with his friend P.O., they started a movement called Bang Bang Boogie which consisted of rappers Cuban Link, Lord Tariq, Mysonne, his brother S-1 and himself. Heavily cosigned by 50 cent and promoted by G-Unit, the movement was on its’ way to success. But little did he know his past would catch up with him. After being incarcerated for 4 years on Rikers island, facing life in prison, Hocus 45th would finally have his day in court. He was found NOT GUILTY on all charges. While in jail he began to read books on health/nutrition and decided to become a vegan. Hocus now goes to schools and group homes to talk to kids about health, gang violence and his life in hopes to help others.

Cuban Link, one of my favorite and underrated rappers of the nineties era once said, and I’m paraphrasing, feathers on a bird don’t always flock together, sometimes they fall off and disappear in the stormy weather. Now wait a minute. That first part didn’t sound right. what exactly did he mean with that line. And why did he say it that way? Well, of course he was referencing the old adage, birds of a feather flock together, meaning people of the same kind will associate with one another and quite possibly build friendships and alliances. This is very true. But what about the second part. What happens when there’s stormy weather. What happens when those associations or friendships are put to the test?

On today’s very special edition of Scottscope Talk Radio, the roundtable celebrates the 20th anniversary of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...!  Can it still be considered among of the greatest rap albums ever released?  Is it the single most complete rap album of all time?  Did the Wu-Tang Clan as a whole hit their creative peak with this album?  Should it be considered an actual solo album or more of a group effort?  Did it play a significant role in establishing filmmaker John Woo as a cult figure in the United States?  Did it single handedly establish “Mafioso rap” as a viable subgenre?  What makes it stand out from other, similarly themed rap albums of its time?  Should Raekwon continue making sequels to his transcendent masterpiece?
