If you've ever tuned into a classic rock radio station and felt the electric hum of Southern rock filling your soul, chances are you've brushed shoulders—musically speaking—with Rodney Justo. Best known as the original lead singer of the legendary Atlanta Rhythm Section, Rodney's voice is more than just a sonic signature of the American South—it's the soundtrack to a generation. But to understand the full breadth of his musical journey, you've got to go back to Tampa, Florida, where the boy who would become a Southern rock icon first discovered his voice.Rodney Justo was born with rhythm in his veins. His father was a musician, and Tampa in the '50s and early '60s had a burgeoning music scene.By the time he was a teenager, Rodney was performing professionally, fronting bands and making a name for himself as a gifted rock and soul singer. In the mid-60s, Rodney's voice caught the ear of Roy Orbison's backing band, The Candymen. Rodney joined as lead vocalist, and it wasn't long before they began carving out their own identity. Touring constantly, performing alongside major acts, The Candymen were crucial in shaping Rodney's future. In the early '70s, he and his bandmates decided it was time to forge their own path. The Atlanta Rhythm Section was born. More than just a band, ARS was a musical collective, fusing rock, jazz, R&B, and pop into a smooth, sophisticated Southern sound that defied categorization.Rodney Justo was the voice on their self-titled 72 debut album. His vocals were powerful and expressive helping to define the Atlanta Rhythm Section's unique tone.Rodney left the band shortly after that first album—citing creative differences and a desire to focus on family. He became an in-demand session vocalist and performer, lending his golden pipes to countless recording projects throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s. His ability to shift between genres—from blue-eyed soul to polished pop to hard-edged rock—made him a go-to voice in studios from Florida to L.A.In the mid-90s, Rodney Justo returned to the Atlanta Rhythm Section. He stepped back into the spotlight once again performing hits like "So Into You," "Imaginary Lover," and "Spooky" live on stage. Rodney Justo brought new energy to the ARS catalogue—even if he hadn't originally recorded those songs. He made them his own, connecting with audiences across generations. Rodney Justo is more than t a great rock vocalist. He's a storyteller. He's filled with anecdotes, punchlines, and the kind of behind-the-scenes music lore that makes you lean in and listen. He's got tales from the road with Roy Orbison, recording sessions with legends, and enough stories about Southern rock's golden era to fill a memoir. He brings humour, humility, and a deep love of the craft to every conversation. Today he tours with Atlanta Rhythm Section and his voice hasn't lost any of its magic. There's still that same smooth phrasing, that soul-deep delivery, and that sly smile you can hear even when he's singing through the speakers. He continues to be a beloved figure in Southern rock circles, a revered elder statesman of American music, and a performer who gives his all every single night.Rodney Justo may not be a household name in the same way as some of his peers, but among musicians, he's a legend. His influence runs deep—not just through Atlanta Rhythm Section, but through decades of rock, soul, and Southern music. Rodney's journey is one of persistence, evolution, and soulful resilience. From teenage gigs in Tampa dive bars to singing for thousands on tour with ARS, from the slick sessions of Studio One to today's digital world, Rodney Justo has remained a voice worth listening to—a true original in the ever-changing world of American rock music. You're going to LOVE his story. To find out more head to https://www.atlantarhythmsection.com/and contact me with any feedback, comments or queries.https://www.abreathoffreshair.com.au

After much debate and a veto from Mayor Steve Tumlin, the council voted 4-3 in favor of full residential use for one building, citing challenges in attracting commercial tenants. The developer argued the weak retail market made the change necessary. The site will also include 39 townhomes, with most being three stories tall. The decision reflects ongoing efforts to balance housing needs and market realities in the area. STORY 2: UPDATE: Six Arrested After Shooting, Police Chase in Marietta Six men, aged 18-23, were arrested after a shooting at Lakeside at Town Center Apartments in Marietta led to a police chase. The suspects, armed with handguns and an AK-47-style rifle, allegedly fired at two victims, Deshawn Hirsch and Miykael Davis, who were injured but later discharged from the hospital. The suspects fled in a BMW, crashing during a police pursuit. Multiple apartments and vehicles were damaged by gunfire, and police are investigating if others were involved. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Marietta Police or submit anonymous tips. STORY 5: 'A Conversation Starter': Marietta Super on State Phone Ban Georgia's "Distraction-Free Education Act" (HB 340), awaiting Gov. Brian Kemp's signature, would ban cellphone use in public schools for grades K-8 starting July 2026. Schools must adopt policies by January 2026 but can choose how to enforce the ban. Marietta City Schools already uses Yondr pouches to restrict phone access in middle schools and is considering expanding the policy. Superintendent Grant Rivera sees the bill as a statewide acknowledgment of the issue, sparking broader discussions, including potential high school bans. Cobb County schools, however, prefer a flexible, teacher-led approach to managing devices. It's the spiritual sequel to our Wet Hot Erotic Summer, heaux! This week we set out to talk about books we recommend for reading on vacation and our anticipated summer releases, but mostly fail as we devolve into FinDom Grumpy Sunshine Erotica, Monster and Gargoyle Fucking and a solid 15 minutes on the intricacies of magical balloon people's mate-seeking inflatable genitals. B. Cox is joined by NaturallyAlise and JR of the R&B Representers to review SWV's debut classic album It's About Time as it turns 30. The crew is also joined with a very special guest appearance by Brian Alexander Morgan, one of the album's principal producers and co-writers.As R&B continued its evolution in the early 90s, the trio from NYC burst onto the scene with a jam packed album of hits and a long list of singles that would keep their album in the public consciousness for years until their next effort. Formed by Cheryl "Coko" Gamble, Tamara "Taj" George (nee Johnson) and Leanne "LeeLee" Lyons, the group started in gospel, but soon transitioned to R&B.The majority of the album was primarily produced and co-written by singer and producer Morgan. It also featured production from Genard Parker, Michael Brown, Saphreem King and Donald "Dee" Bowden. It's legendary run included seven singles, including the #1 R&B ballad "Weak", top R&B hit "I'm So Into You", "Right Here", "Downtown", "Anything" and the Morgan vocally-assisted "You're Always On My Mind".The album was certified triple platinum and has been considered a staple of the greatness of 90s R&B music. SWV would go on to release many albums and reunited to tour after taking long hiatus in new millennium, having influenced a great deal of their contemporaries and successors with the sound of their debut effort.Catch Alise and JR of the R&B Representers!Web: www.rnbreps.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/rnbrepsIG: https://www.instagram.com/rnbrepsYoutube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/RBRepresentersVisit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comSupport The Vault Classic Music Review on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodShow NotesAlbumism: SWV's Debut Album "It's About Time" Turns 30 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/swv-debut-album-its-about-time-album-anniversaryEssence: An SWV Biopic Is In The Workshttps://www.essence.com/entertainment/swv-biopic-movie/UrbanBridgez: UB Celebrates 30 Years of SMV's "It's About Time"https://urbanbridgez.com/2022/10/27/ub-celebrates-30th-anniversary-of-swvs-its-about-time/Sterogum: The Number Ones- SWV "Weak"https://www.stereogum.com/2174931/the-number-ones-swvs-weak/columns/the-number-ones/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We're going back to the 90s and talking about one of Angie's favorite girl groups of all time, the Sisters With Voices: SWV. In this episode of Diva Dailies, Angie (@poetrysoul3) and Steffi (@inn_mho) review SWV's debut album entitled, “It's About Time” (1992). But before we talk about the album, we read listener feedback (which, THANK YOU FOR THAT) and briefly talk about our anticipation (or lack thereof) for Beyoncé's imminent Renaissance. Also fair warning: a very cringe/corny/unexpected edit happens in this episode. That one goes out to the Killing Eve fans, lol.As we do in all of our Diva Discography episodes, part 1 is an in-depth review and discussion on EVERY SINGLE TRACK of the album. We then end our conversation sharing our Top 3 favorite songs from the album, 1 song we'd cut, and the underrated gem. Make sure you tune in next week for part 2 when we talk about SWV's It's About Time era.Album Info: It's About Time is the debut studio album by American female R&B trio SWV. It was released by RCA Records on October 27, 1992, in the United States. It earned 11 Billboard Music Award nominations and became the 16th best-selling album of 1993 in the United States, with 2,100,000 copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. It also earned SWV a nomination for Best New Artist at the 36th Grammy Awards. In 1996, It's About Time was certified 3× platinum, for shipping over 3,000,000 albums in the US alone. The album spawned five hit singles with "I'm So into You", "Downtown", "Weak", a remixed version of "Right Here/Human Nature" (the latter two reached number one on the R&B singles chart, with "Weak" being their biggest and only number-one pop hit), and "You're Always on My Mind" (shortened to "Always on My Mind" for single release). A remixed version of "Anything" appeared on the soundtrack of the film Above the Rim in 1994 and was released as the final single from It's About Time.*Email us for show notes: divadailiespod@gmail.com*Twitter & Instagram: @divadailiespod*YouTube: Diva Dailies PodcastSTEFFI'S SOCIAL MEDIA:*Twitter & Instagram: @inn_mho*YouTube: innmyhumbleopinionANGIE'S SOCIAL MEDIA:*Twitter: @poetrysoul3*YouTube: Sleepy Nerd ProductionsEPISODE TIME STAMPS:- Housekeeping (01:03)- Friendly Reminder to Review the Pod! It may not be surprising that the self-titled debut album from Foreigner was a hit, since all the members had previously worked with successful acts, making this collaboration a bit of a supergroup. British guitarist and songwriter Mick Jones came from Spooky Tooth. Multi-instrumentalist and fellow Brit Ian McDonalds had played in King Crimson. They were joined by another Englishman, drummer Dennis Elliott (from Ferris Wheel and The Roy Young Band). Other members were American, including Al Greenwood on keyboards, Ed Gagliardi on bass, and Lou Gramm on vocals. The band had the name Trigger for their demo tapes, but swapped that name out when they found another band had already taken it. The name Foreigner was suggested by Mick Jones, because with three English members and three American members, at least half the band would be foreigners — wherever they played. The debut album Foreigner would create three hit singles and would be certified 5x platinum in the US, the first of four albums (this one, Double Vision, Head Games, and 4) from the group to achieve such a high level of success.Foreigner would prove to be one of the biggest bands of the late 70's through the 80's. Lou Gramm would split from the group in the 1990, return in 1992, and leave again in 2003. Foreigner still tours today, but Mick Jones is the sole original member of the group. Feels Like the First TimeThe leading track and first single released would be the first hit by the group, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mick Jones wrote this track prior to the start of Foreigner, when he had met a new love after this previous marriage dissolved. It was a feeling that his life was entering a new phase. I Need YouThis song concludes the album and is a deeper cut with great bass licks and chord progressions. "Many is the time I've cursed the Lord's creations. Ah, but you touched my hand, I loved this new sensation."StarriderAnother deeper cut with more prominent keyboards, this one features Mick Jones on lead vocals. The song reminds us of "Crystal Ball" by Styx. You might agree it has a medieval or fantasy feel. Long, Long Way from HomeThe third single from the album gives the perspective of a person moving from a small town to a large city, and the loneliness that results. Lou Gramm has said this song is autobiographical, reflecting his move from Rochester, New York to New York City. "I was inside looking outside. Oh, the millions of faces, but still I'm alone." ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme from the television series “Eight Is Enough”The family drama starring Dick Van Patten would debut in March of 1977. It was about a single father raising eight kids. STAFF PICKS:Year of the Cat by Al StewartBrian opens our staff picks with a haunting tune. The song originated from a riff piano player Tim Renwick would play before concerts. Many of the lyrics were inspired from watching the movie Casablanca. The title comes from a Vietnamese calendar which indicated that 1975 was the Year of the Cat.Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes by Jimmy BuffettWayne brings us one of the standard songs of summer. The song itself barely cracked the top 40, but has taken on a timelessness with more than just the "Parrot Heads" that attend multiple Buffett concerts. "With all of our running and all of our cunning, if we couldn't laugh we would all go insane."Georgia Rhythm by the Atlanta Rhythm SectionBruce features a local Atlanta band who was big in 1977. The Atlanta Rhythm Section was formed from former members of the Candymen and the Classics IV who had come to Atlanta as the session band for Studio One in Doraville in 1970. This song is off their sixth studio album, and the first album to get significant airplay. The big hit was "So Into You," but "Georgia Rhythm" got a lot of airplay in Atlanta for obvious reasons.Maybe I'm Amazed (live) by Paul McCartney & WingsRob wraps up the staff picks with a song originally recorded in 1970 for McCartney's first album, but never released as a single. This live version was released in February 1977. This touching song was inspired by his romance with his wife, Linda. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Fanfare for the Common Man by Emerson, Lake & PalmerThis was originally written by Aaron Copeland in response to America's entry into the Second World War. The ELP version came about when Emerson was playing the piece on keyboards. Greg Lake came in with a shuffle pattern on bass, and Palmer added in the drums. The engineer was rolling tape and the first time the band played the song through is what made the album.
They've been part of the Southern Rock scene for nearly 50 years. Their biggest hits include So Into You, Champagne Jam, Imaginary Lover, Homesick, and Spooky. But there's so much more...With 15 albums of outstanding songwriting and performances, The Atlanta Rhythm Section represents the good things the phrase “classic rock” implies.

This is the album that turned Fleetwood Mac into a household name. Originally formed as a blues band in 1967, Fleetwood Mac had taken a turn to more pop-oriented music with their 10th and self-titled album in 1975. This precursor to Rumors also saw the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks to the band after the departure of guitarist Bob Welch. The band toured and promoted that album heavily and their work paid off. But it would be this eleventh album, Rumors, which would solidify their fame. The title was suggested by John McVie because he saw that the band members were writing about each other through the music. The band was all the walking wounded at the time. Drummer Mick Fleetwood was divorcing, bassist John McVie and keyboardist Christine McVie were separated, and vocalist/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks were breaking up. All this drama poured into their music. While not every song was released as a single, virtually every song on the album is familiar based upon its rotation on FM radio. There is a timelessness about Fleetwood Mac, and we mention in this podcast how their popularity crossed generations. We hope you enjoy this exploration of one of the most successful albums of the 70's. Don't StopThis song was written by Christine McVie and is sung by Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie. It was the third single released from the album. It is an optimistic look at things after Christine's separation from John McVie to whom she was married for 8 years. Christine McVie was a session keyboardist when Fleetwood Mac first formed, and married John shortly thereafter. Bill Clinton used this music as his theme song during his 1992 Presidential campaign, and persuaded the group to reform and perform this song at his inaugural ball.DreamsThe second single from the album would be the highest charting song, going to number 1. Stevie Nicks wrote it, and handles lead vocals. It is about all the drama the members were going through - divorce, separation, and break-ups. The band was not all that impressed when they first heard it due to its simplicity in chord structure, but fortunately they decided to include it on the album after all.Gold Dust WomanStevie Nicks also wrote and sang this track, which was not released as a single, but received attention at the B-side to “You Make Loving Fun.” Nicks has described it as about Los Angeles, a bad relationship, and, perhaps most fameously, as a metaphor for cocaine. The ChainClearly the heaviest track on the album, it is the only track on the album for which all five band members received songwriting credit. This is another song in which the relationship struggles of the band are prominent. It was a literal combination of older material, and the intro was spliced in from an old Buckingham Nicks song using a razor blade to cut and splice the tapes. Stevie Nicks wrote most of the lyrics, and Buckingham sings lead. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme from “Sanford and Son” by Quincy JonesThe comedy series starring Redd Foxx came to an end in February 1977. STAFF PICKS:“Undercover Angel” by Alan O'DayWayne brings us the best known song by singer-songwriter Alan O'Day, who had written songs previously for Helen Reddy and The Righteous Brothers. He also relays a tragedy in his life where he won a Charlie's Angels poster that was never delivered!“The Things We Do For Love” by 10 ccBrian's staff pick features great harmonies and a story about a guy walking in the rain to his girlfriend's house. "like walking in the rain and the snow when there's nowhere to go, and you're feelin' like a part of you is dying."“The First Cut is The Deepest” by Rod StewartRob's staff pick was originally written by Cat Stevens; but this rendition is one of the better known, as sung by “Rod the Mod” Stewart. The Scottish-born singer was known for a high sense of fashion...and football (the soccer type).“So Into You” by the Atlanta Rhythm SectionBruce features the first single released of ARS's album "A Rock and Roll Alternative." This was their biggest hit off the album, and would kick off several years of success for the band running through this and the next two albums. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:“Nights Are Forever Without You” by Bob JamesThis instrumental take on the hit from England Dan and Jon Ford Coley is off jazz pianist Bob James' fourth album, BJ4, which was released in this month.

On this week’s episode we’re talking all things music covers! I mean let’s be honest, some of us don’t truly appreciate a song until one of our favorite artists recreates it and makes it their own. Most of the time the new rendition is better than the original. Or in Taylor Swift’s case...it’s best to leave certain songs untouched. So tune in as we dissect a few of our favorite (and not so favorite) covers. You might be surprised by what you hear! Have something to add to the convo?? - Use the hashtag #VIEWSPOD on your socials! Peabo Bryson is among the world's most dynamic and gifted vocal talents. Over the course of a career spanning from the mid-`60s but truly igniting in the `70s, the 2x Grammy® winner has amassed a fan base, critical acclaim, gold albums and an avalanche of awards by being one of the truly best friends a good song ever had...many of which he composed himself. From ballads that gracefully continued the legacy of sweet soul music such as “Feel the Fire” and “I'm So Into You” to chart-topping pop hits such as “If Ever You're in My Arms Again” and “Can You Stop The Rain,” and a plethora of duet collaborations with artists ranging from singers Celine Dion (“Beauty & The Beast”), Regina Belle (“A Whole New World”) both songs of which also won Oscars®; to Melissa Manchester (“Lovers After All”), instrumentalists Kenny G (“By The Time This Night is Over”) and Jim Brickman (“My Heart Belongs To You”), Peabo Bryson has proven himself as the consummate vocal professional. On one of his most recent releases, "Missing You" you can feel the power and passion of a true artist a balladeer and sexy, sexy, sexy. LOTL The Comfort Zone Presents Betty Wright. Debuts her new album.LIVING , LOVE, LIES Born singing gospel with the family group, the Echoes of Joy, Wright began experimenting with R&B music in 1965 when she was only 11. In 1968, she released her first album, My First Time Around, by the age of 14, and scored her first national hit, "Girls Can't Do What Guys Can Do". But it was not until the end of 1971 that Wright's most successful phase of her career began to take place. The song, "Clean Up Woman", became a Top 5 pop and #2 R&B hit, and would later influence a remix of Mary J. Blige's "Real Love" single with the sample of its guitar riffs; R&B girl group trio SWV's "I'm So Into You" also featured a sample from "Clean Up Woman," as did Afrika Bambaataa's song "Zulu War Chant", and Sublime's "Get Out!" remix. In 1974, Wright scored big with the songs "Tonight is the Night" (about a real-life love affair that happened with Wright when she was a teenager) and "Where is the Love" (which won her a GRAMMY for Best R&B Song).
