2016 was a pivotal moment for VentureFizz and it was Greenhouse that helped us get to where we are today. We saw lots of companies adopting its ATS to help out with their recruiting initiatives and it was their open APIs which allowed us to scale our job board by pulling in jobs automatically through a feed. It was game changing for us. Historically, companies had to manually add their jobs to our site which was easy but let's face it, incredibly inefficient and time consuming. Needless to say, I was excited to speak to Daniel and learn more about the history of the company. Yes, I'm always fascinated by the entrepreneurial journey, but this one was unique based on its impact the company had on our business. I actually looked at some stats and over 40% of our customers are users of Greenhouse. Daniel is a serial entrepreneur and now an author, as he and his co-founder, Jon Stross, wrote a book that was recently published called TALENT MAKERS. It's a step by step guide for implementing a structured hiring process and it captures their experiences at working with more than 4,000 companies. In this episode of our podcast, we cover: * The details and what you can expect from reading TALENT MAKERS. * His journey into entrepreneurship and how Lab49 opened his eyes to the world of talent acquisition and how challenging it is yet if you do it right, it's a competitive advantage. * What led him and Jon down the path of starting Greenhouse and the full story of how it built a market leading product and scaled. * The future ahead for the company including it's recently reported $500M investment to further their mission of helping every company become great at hiring. * Advice on how companies can build a more diverse pipeline of candidates. * And so much more. One of the best things about the work that I do is that I have the opportunity to connect with so many talented people doing great things to make the world of work - and the world - better for us all in the future. Early last year, while looking to expand my network of leaders with diversity and inclusion expertise, I reached out to my network and asked a simple question - “Who should I know that does great work in this area?” What followed were over 90 recommendations, and I was able to make some great new connections, have some great conversations, and add to my list of potential referral partners in the future. The first person who responded to my question was Daniel Chait, the CEO & co-founder of Greenhouse, an HR tech company that helps organizations become great at hiring. Daniel was quick to recommend that I connect with one of his mentees - Ariel Lopez. Ariel followed up with me shortly thereafter, and suggested that we connect briefly to get to know each other better. I enjoyed chatting with her so much, that I made introductions for her to a couple of leaders in my network as well, not because she or they had any specific need at the time, but because I could see that Ariel is someone who is making things happen, and I felt that they needed to know more about her and her work as well. Which brings us to where we are today, where I’m also introducing Ariel to many of you. Pro tip: that’s how effective networking, relationship building, and follow up works, and you’ll hear more about how Ariel values that process in our conversation today. So, without further adieu, let me introduce you to Ariel Lopez - a career coach, entrepreneur, and public speaker with an expertise in digital media and technology. Ariel is the Founder and CEO of Knac, a platform that provides recruiters with a more efficient tool for screening applicants, managing their pipeline, and ensuring that they don't miss out on great talent. With over a decade of recruiting experience, Ariel has had the privilege of helping some of the biggest brands in the world to build great teams, and as a career coach, she’s worked with thousands of marketing, advertising, and tech professionals to help them grow in their careers and find lucrative opportunities. Passionate about the future of work and making the job search more humane, Ariel’s ultimate goal is to help people to find career happiness, and to live their best lives. Topics Discussed In This Episode: Why Ariel loved coaching people in their career journey, and how that experience set her on the journey to helping people to find jobs that they’re passionate about, and care for. Ariel’s recommendation for people interested in finding a career that they love. The importance of resilience and confidence for reaching career goals. How identifying your leverageable skills can help you take charge of your career, and make wise choices. Ariel’s tips for networking and building relationships during COVID times. The importance of figuring out your values, and the pillars that you will focus on and speak to as a thought leader. What inspired Ariel to start a company focused on helping candidates to break through barriers and gain access to opportunities. The trait that most Founders need in order to keep pressing ahead on any Founder’s journey. HR Happy Hour 247 - Greenhouse and the Future of Recruiting Technology Hosts: Steve Boese, Trish McFarlane Guest: Daniel Chait, Co-founder and CEO, Greenhouse This week on the show, recorded live in San Francisco on site at Greenhouse Open, the customer event for recruiting technology provider Greenhouse, Steve sat down with Greenhouse Co-founder and CEO Daniel Chait to talk about how companies can become great at recruiting and how modern recruiting technology can help them achieve this goal. Turns out, at least some of the process changes that companies can implement, like going into candidate interviews with a structured plan, or making sure you understand which are the key elements or attributes that are likely to make a candidate successful can elevate an organization's recruiting function into the top 10%. Additionally, Dan and Steve talked about the market for recruitment technology, why it might be so crowded with solution providers, and why most recruitment technology providers have made a mistake by trying to make recruiting simple and somehow 'not core' to the business. Dan and Greenhouse feel that recruiting is hard, important, and are creating tools to make organizations successful at these tough challenges. This was a fun and interesting show - many thanks to Dan and the entire team at Greenhouse for having the HR Happy Hour out at the event. And also, many thanks to our HR Happy Hour Show sponsor Virgin Pulse, www.virginpulse.com. @DHChait -- @Greenhouse -- About.me -- Company We're not really into talking about Recruiting Technology on The Recruiting Animal Show but I heard a guy from Greenhouse on @DriveThruHR and he seemed to know something about recruiting as opposed to software so I invited him to come on this show. He said he'd get back to me and the next thing I know his company was shoving this other guy in front of me. I could have rebelled but I figured, "Hey, I'll trust them. They wouldn't send me a bore, would they?". Well, yeah, they probably would but I've got a feeling he isn't so let's see what he can do. My research shows that he's already been interviewed by everybody but me -- and the Animal Crew
