A significant drug trafficking seizure at the Port of Long Beach, where authorities intercepted 55 tons of dicumyl peroxide, a chemical used in methamphetamine production. This shipment, which originated in China and was destined for the Sinaloa drug cartel in Mexico, was confiscated as part of an ICE initiative launched in 2019 to target suspicious chemical precursor shipments.  The podcast also provides an update on Yellow Corp.'s asset liquidation process, noting the company has filed a motion in federal bankruptcy court to sell four of its terminals valued at $6.8 million. This action represents a further step toward winding down operations, with mostly non-logistics buyers showing interest in these property assets.  Additionally, the Trump administration's announcement of $5.4 billion available for major bridge projects across the United States is covered, including $4.9 billion for the Bridge Investment Program and an additional $500 million dedicated to rural bridge repairs. A key highlight of this program is the removal of previous Biden-era approval requirements related to climate change and environmental justice considerations, aiming to streamline the process for state and local governments involved in these critical infrastructure projects.  Finally, the episode reminds listeners about upcoming FreightWaves virtual events, including the Enterprise Summit on July 23rd and the Supply Chain AI Symposium coming up quickly on July 30th in Washington D.C.. Billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk is leaving the Trump administration after leading a tumultuous efficiency drive, during which he upended several federal agencies but ultimately failed to deliver the generational savings he had sought. During a press conference with President Trump Friday, Musk pledged that despite his departure the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) would continue its work toward cutting a trillion dollars out of the federal budget Guest host Keaton Weiss and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss how DOGE never came close to cutting the promised level of government funding, mainly because Musk and his acolytes refused to follow through on his promise to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse at the Pentagon. Plus segments on Joe Biden's bizarre threat of violence against CNN's Jake Tapper and Israel's radical ramping up of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

President Trump has announced a doubling of tariffs on imported steel from 25% to 50% to protect domestic jobs and strengthen the industry. This move follows a previous tariff announcement and aims to ensure America's future is built with U.S.-produced steel rather than "shoddy steel from Shanghai". You can read more about the tariff increase here. We also discuss the ongoing labor dispute involving Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). Canada Post has requested government intervention to hold a vote among unionized employees on its latest contract offer, highlighting the impasse in negotiations over wages and structural changes. The situation is a continuation of a conflict that included a nearly five-week strike last year. For more details on the Canada Post situation, see the article here. Additionally, we highlight executive changes and potential IPO plans at the autonomous freight technology company Einride. Founder Robert Falck is transitioning from CEO to executive chairman, while CFO Roozbeh Charll is taking over the CEO role with an eye toward a potential IPO in the U.S.. This leadership pivot is intended to capitalize on a favorable regulatory environment for autonomous vehicles and support future expansion and investment opportunities. Both Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to withdraw the troops that both had built up in the area of the initial incident, though diplomatically the ceasefire remains somewhat uncertain.AC: If both parties can de-escalate the situation, the chance of a large conflagration is much reduced. This afternoon (after the closing bell) the White House announced an increase in the tariffs on US Steel from 25% to 50% in order to further incentivize local production.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: In the United Kingdom, the suspect in this week's vehicle ramming attack in Liverpool has been identified as Paul Doyle. This rapid identification and disclosure of the suspect's name is extremely uncharacteristic of British authorities, who normally conceal the identities of some terrorists/assailants. Nevertheless, as one might expect, the internet immediately began digging into this individual's life in search of a reason as to why the attack might have been conducted. Whiparound Fridays continue as Andy and Brendan cover everything from the quarterback room of the Cleveland Browns to the drinking water at the Austrian Open in this episode. After crowning the Austrian Open as his "Event of the Week," Brendan was swarmed with information about the tournament and its history. He informs Andy about the past "tee up" rounds where every shot could be played off a tee and shares that the drinking water may be causing some issues for players on the course. The main portion of this episode focuses on the changes to the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup Playoffs that were announced Tuesday afternoon. Andy and Brendan discuss the removal of "Starting Strokes" from the Tour Championship and whether these changes will be enough to fix what has become a broken playoff system. With the playing field evened out at East Lake, they then debate who the worst-case scenario winner of the 2025 FedEx Cup would be. Meanwhile at the U.S. Women's Open, slow play is once again the topic of discussion with rounds nearing six hours on Thursday afternoon. Andy and Brendan then recap the NCAA Championship and some gamesmanship by an Oklahoma State player that should have him in Ryder Cup conversations. In other news, Charlie Woods is an AJGA winner, Good Charlotte is headed to Bolingbrook this summer, Blockie's angling for Champions Tour exemptions, and Bryson may have some nice digs in Washington D.C. ahead of LIV Virginia next week. To wrap things up, Brendan shares an amusing story from his trip to a diner with PJ.

So far 19 agriculture education programs in Wisconsin are planning for teacher changes next school year. That's the word from Sally Ladsten, Education Counselor with the Department of Public Instruction. She oversees agriculture, food and natural resource programs and acts as the Wisconsin State FFA Advisor. She calls this time of year "crazy" in a conversation with Pam Jahnke. Last year, Wisconsin experienced 60 teacher turnovers. Some stay in the state, the profession, and others leave. Ladsten says they're always scrambling to try and find available teachers to fill the slots of growing programs. Rainfall reporters will be busy again today according to Stu Muck. Light rain is likely to sweep across the state.Land sales remain firm according to Ashley Huhn from the Steffes Group. In this installment of his conversation with Pam Jahnke, he focuses on the differences bidders experience when they show interest in land. Paid for by Steffes Group. The state's farmers are starting to see planting in the rear view mirror. Over 80% of the corn and soybeans have been planted. Pam Jahnke recaps the planting progress report. Kurt Lahr with CHS says the state is in a pretty good spot overall. While things are going calmly forward now, there's concerns on the horizon about climate change. A new survey released by UW-Madison points out that farmers recognize climate change, and are adjusting some of their practices because of it.Changes are being discussed on funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Stephanie Hoff talks to a Rudolph area farmer who has felt the positive impact of SNAP dollars on the clients he serves at the Dane County Farmers Market and elsewhere. Carl Flaig of Flaig Family Farm in Rudolph features an aquaponics system and cattle ranch that brings fresh produce, fish filets, and beef year-round to Wisconsin consumers, restaurants, and retailers. He says it's a major asset that SNAP recipients can purchase food from farmers' market vendors. Carl was recently in Washington D.C. with Wisconsin Farmers Union asking lawmakers to support a strong Supplemental Nutrition Assistance ProgramSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

With the instincts of a warrior and the heart of a leader, Mohamed Amin built Camerapix into a sustainable, world class organization covering news, features and producing documentaries with a variety of global networks including the BBC, NBC and Reuters. Today, Salim has continued that tradition by helping educate Africa's youth through the Mohamed Amin Foundation and as a founder of Africa 24 Media, a media platform that was dedicated to positive stories about the culture and history of Africa.Recognized in 2007 as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Salim's leadership has been rewarded. Today, Camerapix works in collaboration with production partners throughout Africa, Britain, Europe, Asia and the United States. New African Magazine has recognized Salim as one of the top “100 Most Influential Africans” and has named Salim among their “Top 50 Under 50.” Salim was one of only 150 global leaders invited to President Obama's 2010 summit on Presidential Entrepreneurship in Washington DC.Salim's work as a producer includes the internationally acclaimed feature documentary Mo & Me, the One.org production of Revisiting Korem, and executive producing the award-winning documentary The Sound Man. As an on-camera host and producer, Salim achieved acclaim across the Continent for his production of more than 150 episodes of The Scoop, a weekly half hour series featuring Africa's foremost voices in art, culture and finance. At it's peak, The Scoop reached more than 300 million viewers weekly in broadcast and online viewership.Salim published his first book in 2019 titled KENYA: Through My Father's Eyes, a coffee-table book showcasing his father's unique images of Kenya. It is also the first historical book on Africa incorporating Augmented Reality with 12 videos embedded in the pages of the book.Since 2020 Salim has been documenting and preserving Kenya's history through interviews and features, and working on the construction of Kenya's largest history Museum. He refers to his work as a “conservation of history”.In 2024, together with production partner Chip Duncan, Salim co-produced the multi-award-winning documentary Stand Together As One: The Famine. Send us a textBuckle up, there may be turbulence on this ride.On the show today is Elizabeth Eurgubian , now a lobbyist in Washington DC but who just a few months ago served as NCUA Director of the Office of External Affairs and Communications and Policy Advisor to Chairman Harper.  That's an important position at NCUA - it's a political appointment. Before that  she was deputy chief advocacy officer at CUNA and before that she was a vice president and a lobbyist for ICBA.She knows Washington DC and she especially knows the lobbying intricacies involving credit unions and community banks. This episode was recorded the day before NCUA chairman Kyle Haputman revealed the staff reorganization plan for NCUA which is a slightly deeper staffing cut than Eugubian predicted but that makes her predictions for NCUA operations with a smaller staff even more chilling.Bottomline: she says everything will take longer at a slimmed down NCUA, an agency she says was thinly staffed before this 20+ percent staffing cut.Along the way Ergubian gives a short course on how to lobby effectively and offers insights into the likely future of NCUA (will it stay independent?), the credit union federal tax exemption, and credit union examinations in a slimmed down NCUA.Listen up.Like what you are hearing? We Must Save the Books. That's Michael Kimmage's SOS message from Trumpian Washington in this issue of Liberties Quarterly. Kimmage, former director of the Kennan Institute at the Wilson Center, describes the surreal experience of being hired in January 2025 only to see his institution shuttered by Trump's administration three months later. He reflects on the "American ruin" created as a consequence of abandonment of the Wilson Center's 30,000 book library. And Kimmage connects the rapid destruction of foreign policy institutions like USAID and the U.S. Institute of Peace to a broader assault on expertise and nonpartisan learning, warning that without such institutions, "an abyss opens" in American governance and international relations. Five Key Takeaways* Institutional Destruction was Swift and Unexplained - The Wilson Center, USAID (reduced from 10,000 to 15 employees), and U.S. Institute of Peace were shuttered within months with no clear rationale provided, creating a "nightmare-like" quality where decisions happened without accountability.* America's First Modern Ruin - Kimmage describes the abandoned Wilson Center library as unprecedented in American experience - a functioning institution in the heart of Washington D.C. suddenly left as a tomb-like ruin, unlike anything seen in a country never defeated on its own soil.* Books Were Saved, But Expertise Was Lost - While the 30,000-volume library was eventually rescued and distributed to universities, the real loss was the destruction of nonpartisan expertise and institutional knowledge that took decades to build.* Echoes of 1950s McCarthyism - The assault on expertise mirrors McCarthyism, with direct connections through Roy Cohn's mentorship of Trump, but differs in scale since it's driven by a president rather than a senator.* The Death of Learning in Government - The shutdowns represent a fundamental rejection of the idea that careful, nonpartisan study of international affairs is essential to effective policymaking, potentially creating an "abyss" in American foreign policy capacity.Michael Kimmage is Director of the Wilson Center's Kennan Institute. Prior to joining the Kennan Institute, Michael Kimmage was a professor of history at the Catholic University of America. From 2014 to 2017, he served on the Secretary's Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. Department of State, where he held the Russia/Ukraine portfolio. He has been a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and at the German Marshall Fund; and was on the advisory board of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs. He publishes widely on international affairs and on U.S. policy toward Russia. His latest book, Collisions: The War in Ukraine and the Origins of the New Global Instability, was published by Oxford University Press in March 2024. He is also the author of The Abandonment of the West: The History of an Idea in American Foreign Policy, published by Basic Books in 2020, and The Conservative Turn: Lionel Trilling, Whittaker Chambers and the Lessons of Anti-Communism, published by Harvard University Press in 2009.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. In addition to presenting the daily KEEN ON show, he is the host of the long-running How To Fix Democracy interview series. He is also the author of four prescient books about digital technology: CULT OF THE AMATEUR, DIGITAL VERTIGO, THE INTERNET IS NOT THE ANSWER and HOW TO FIX THE FUTURE. The shootings of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky as they stepped out of an American Jewish Committee event in Washington D.C. was “the realization of our worst fears,” the organization’s CEO, Ted Deutch, said on the Haaretz Podcast. In his conversation with host Allison Kaplan Sommer, Deutch said he hoped the tragedy would mark a “turning point” and send a message to world leaders that “this is what happens when you don't speak out, when there isn't moral clarity, when you allow language like ‘globalize the intifada’ and ‘from the river to the sea’. People espousing these things while wearing Palestinian Islamic Jihad headbands and marching the streets in support of Hamas - this is where it can lead.” In the U.S., Deutch said, he called on politicians and other leaders to “stand up and say Jews should not feel afraid to gather together in a synagogue, community center or anywhere just because of who they are. It's crazy that we've accepted checkpoints and armed guards and metal detectors and tactical SWAT teams standing outside of synagogues on Shabbat as normal. And that's what we need to hear from our leaders. Have we heard enough of that? No.” Asked about Israeli ministers who pointed fingers of blame for the killing at European leaders supporting sanctions against Israel for atrocities in Gaza, Deutch said “We need the world to stand with us, and I'm not pushing anyone away right now. I want them to try to learn from this, to be our allies and take a firmer stand than they might have previously.” “The person that I blame for what happened is the shooter,” he added, “but the environment in which it happened? That's something for which I blame the entire world.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Few embody this more than Prof. Alan Arthur Tratner, who helped organize the very first Earth Day in 1970 and has since built a global legacy supporting green entrepreneurs and inventors.Alan's work reminds me that bold action in the face of crisis can spark lasting transformation. In today's episode, he shared the story of rushing to the oil-soaked beaches of Santa Barbara after the catastrophic 1969 spill, an experience that moved him to tears and propelled him into environmental activism. “I broke down, fell on my knees and cried... and then I just said we've got to stop this. We have to find a way to do it,” Alan recalled. That determination led him to found Green2Gold, a unique non-profit incubator that has nurtured over 100,000 inventors, entrepreneurs and more than 300 non-profits focused on environmental and social responsibility. Alan's approach is rooted in the belief that innovation can solve the problems it helped create. “We invented our way into this mess, we could innovate and invent our way out,” he explained. One of the most compelling aspects of Alan's work is his early embrace of investment crowdfunding. He recognized that democratizing access to capital could accelerate the development of climate solutions. “Equity crowdfunding was the democratization of investing. No longer did you have to be wealthy or be in power... anyone in the world, accredited or unaccredited, could invest in an American company,” Alan said.Through Green2Gold's programs, Alan continues to champion breakthrough technologies in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and disaster recovery. His “Build Back Green” project, for instance, emerged in response to the devastating wildfires in Lahaina and now provides a blueprint for rebuilding communities in sustainable, resilient ways.If you're inspired by Alan's vision or want to learn more about Green2Gold's work, visit green2gold.org. For entrepreneurs and inventors seeking support—or anyone interested in investing in a better world—Alan and Green2Gold are showing what's possible when we put creativity and collective action to work for the planet.tl;dr:Alan Tratner shared his journey from the first Earth Day to launching the Green2Gold impact incubator. He described the critical role of innovation and entrepreneurship in addressing environmental crises worldwide.Alan emphasized the power of equity crowdfunding to democratize investment for green ventures and climate solutions. He highlighted the importance of perseverance, creativity and passion for lasting impact in nonprofit and business work.Alan offered actionable advice for aspiring changemakers to lead with purpose and build sustainable ventures. How to Develop Creative Problem-Solving As a SuperpowerAlan's superpower lies in the fusion of creativity, scientific thinking and practical experience. As he described, “I think that creative spark, that passion, you know, I try to give our entrepreneurs and our nonprofits the same feelings about... inventing in the fields that are going to make a difference.” He credits his background in science, art and design, as well as years of nonprofit leadership and invention, for giving him a “quiver of superpowers” that enable him to help others become problem solvers and critical thinkers.Illustrative Story:Alan shared how he has supported over 315 nonprofits and 100,000 entrepreneurs through Green2Gold by applying his expertise in nonprofit management, invention and funding. For years, he persisted with a wind turbine invention that was ahead of its time, waiting 45 years for the right moment to see it realized. He emphasized that passion and perseverance are crucial. “If you quit, you can't win,” Alan said, reflecting on the decades he devoted to innovations that now have renewed relevance.Actionable Tips for Developing Creative Problem-Solving:Treat your venture or nonprofit as a passionate career, not just a hobbyPut your whole self—brain, energy and opportunities—into your missionEmbrace challenges and persist through setbacks; don't give up if progress is slowSurround yourself with people who share your passion and driveThink entrepreneurially, even in nonprofit work, to build sustainability and legacyBy following Alan's example and advice, you can make creative problem-solving a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileProf. Alan Arthur Tratner (Earthling):Founder /Chairman of  Green2Gold, Green2Gold global impact Incubator---501 c 3About Green2Gold global impact Incubator---501 c 3: Helped found Earth Day and the first UN International Conference on the Human Environment. Daily News Brief for Saturday, May 24, 2025 - Washington State School Battles | Does the Supreme Court Understand Basic Grammar? [Daily News Brief]

This is CrossPoliticNews’ Weekly Roundup sponsored by Christian Business Leaders Network. If you want to find out more about this network and its efforts to connect Christian business leaders so that they can more effectively help their businesses and shape culture, visit businessmakers.network. Again, that’s businessmakers.network. (https://businessmakers.network/) What if I told you that the Supreme Court is reading the Constitution wrong because they don’t understand basic grammar that a fourth grader could know? Yes, it’s actually true, but before I explain why, we first need to talk about the tug of war going on in Washington State about transgenderism. As our journalist Justin Chartrey reported, our country was broadly forced to accept the lie that boys could play in women’s sports, and if anyone questioned it, they were called names and canceled. That sounds like a toddler tantrum to me. Well, thankfully, Trump signed an executive order in February to keep boys out of girls’ sports, so this has been a blessing to our nation. However, not everyone on the West Coast has gotten the memo. The government of Washington State does not want to change its liberal policies, and this has frustrated the Central Valley School District by the city of Spokane. This school district is not only writing a complaint against the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction of Washington State, but it has also appealed to Washington D.C. by asking the department of education and the department of justice to investigate Washington State’s transgender sports policy. The Central Valey School District is not alone in its efforts, though, because the Mead School District in Washington State is also opposing Washington State’s transgender sport wickedness. However, I mentioned before that this is a tug-of-war, and so this is why. If the state government doesn't comply, then the federal government will hold money from the school districts. But if the school districts comply with the federal government, then the state government will take away funding. And here's the practical side of the problem. The federal government only holds 5% of a school district's budgets with their funding, but Washington State controls 78% of a school district's budgets. So, right now, the state government is the holding the bigger gun, but this hasn’t stopped Central Valley from asking for help from Washington D.C. anyway. We need more school districts like Central Valley and Mead to step out and do the right thing in states that are steeped in a liberal government. Check out the details at crosspoliticnews.com. (https://www.crosspoliticnews.com/news/school-districts-take-up-title-ix-fight) Meanwhile, our reporter David Fowler wrote about the confusion over the first amendment in the Supreme court, and, like I said earlier, the court doesn’t understand the grammar right. We saw this begin to play out again a few weeks ago in a case where a Catholic charter school in Oklahoma wanted tax support from the state, but the state’s government refused. This made its way to the Supreme Court, but it seems like the Court will probably rule against the school because the court tends to rely more on its past precedents and rulings than the Constitution. And even though its previous rulings sometimes contradict each other or don’t seem to fit together, it doesn’t seem like there will be much support for the Catholic school, mostly because people have misunderstood what the Constitution says about religion. People love pointing to the First Amendment as proof for why the U.S. should stay away from religion in politics, but this is where looking at the grammar is helpful. The first amendment specifically says that, quote, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, unquote. As Justice Story wrote back in the 1800s, the first amendment was supposed to specifically prevent Congress from establishing a, as our journalist David Fowler wrote, quote, “national ecclesiastical establishment” unquote. Congress was the subject in the first amendment—not individual states. Again, as our journalist David Fowler wrote, “The First Amendment’s religion clauses do not give this Court jurisdiction to legislate a tax and educational policy for those in Oklahoma.” (https://www.crosspoliticnews.com/news/will-scotus-get-the-religion-clauses-wrong-again) Find out more of the details at crosspoliticnewscom.
