In this short episode of How My View Grew, I offer an alternative to the false choice between despair and hope. After the recent U.S presidential election, many people in my orbit are feeling despair. Their response: search for signs of hope. But what if this is a false choice? What if we could gain access to other moods that are more constructive and powerful? Say hello to resolve and curiosity, two moods for this moment.**Resources**A Cabinet of buffoons, bomb throwers, and bottom-feeders? Republican Senators get to decide. The FALSE CHOICE paradigm which defines ‘Selection 2024' barrels onward as CNN unsurprisingly boots Bobby Kennedy Jr. from the debate stage despite double digit national polling and massive ballot success over the past 3 months.Once again Americans are forced to choose between FAKE candidates in a rigged election. The vision of completely controlled ‘democratic' choices envisioned by people like Edward Bernal's has come to FULL fruition in this latest control tactic of the governing elite.Edward Bernays wrote in Propaganda:“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.”What WON'T be addressed in the debate now?*The corruption and incompetence of BOTH political parties*COVID atrocities of 2020 & 2021*Mass vaccine injury and death*Corporate capture of government institutions (AKA the rise of fascism)*The real reason for the demise of the dollar, rampant inflation and the rise of BRICS*Endless war and the military industrial complex*The rise of the intelligence agencies and the extreme dangers they present______________________________________________________Show Notes & RESOURCES:WATCH ——>Bobby Kennedy responds: https://x.com/RobertKennedyJr/status/1803911986218176558CNN caved to Trump & Biden campaigns to OUST Kennedy:https://x.com/AnnaRMatson/status/1804650378140451291Robert Kennedy Jr.'s son says his father will hold his own debate against Trump and Biden at the same time CNN airs their debate. https://x.com/ChristianM_74/status/1804970435785679314How RFK threads the needle on a topic like climate change:https://x.com/jeffdornik/status/1800343730404327826____________________________________________________Please support our sponsors!SPECIAL Deal For Shannon Joy Viewers from Omaha Steaks!Go to Extra special bonus from Field of Greens!!!!Plug in the promo code SHANNON for an additional 15% off your purchase!Go to www.fieldofgreens.com to shop and save! Choosing between meaning and money is a trap. Have you found yourself feeling stuck needing to decide between the two? Perhaps you've been told: >> You can only give back once you make a lot of money. Or rather: >> That if you focus on money, you are greedy, selfish, and not prioritizing serving others. But having to pick meaning OR money is a FALSE CHOICE. I know because I've experienced this inner dilemma in my own journey. In this episode, for the first time I am sharing my own personal online business story, and the journey I've gone on in "the Meaning vs. Money F*ckloop" -- a belief construct that keeps us restricted in thinking that we must choose EITHER meaning and following our purpose OR money. From my nonprofit career journey of focusing only on pursuing meaning to my family's financial struggles and feeling like I had to choose between the two, to starting an impactful online business and learning how it can be both/and - meaning and money - listen in to hear my MOST vulnerable episode yet. Sharing my experience of struggling in and eventually busting out of the Meaning vs. Money F*ckloop, I touch on the shortcomings of the traditional approach to business that prioritizes profits over people. In this episode I show you how I learned to blend core business strategies and skills with a focus on purpose and impact to develop a more aligned approach to business, finances, and life. An approach that balances BOTH meaning AND money. Listen in to learn how to overcome the false choice of needing to pick either meaning or money for good so you can build a life that aligns with your purpose and has financial peace of mind. >> I'd love to hear what is your #1 takeaway from my story? With a lack of affirmative leadership on the Right, and so much GOP failure on foreign policy, many on the Right are reflexively sounding like Code Pink leftists in order to avoid the fraught nature of neoconservatism. But today I lay out a third path that is truly America first, doesn't embroil us in other people's battles, but still recognizes and prepares for true evil. Too many on the Right think that every war is the result of Western oligarch corruption (like we see in Ukraine) but fail to recognize that Islamic jihad is real and it's evil to the core. I also lay out the just war theory as applied to Gaza and how Israel has no choice but to either destroy it or demand that the global powers help transfer its people to other lands. Either way, we need not involve ourselves militarily in their affairs and should instead focus on ensuring we don't develop the same security problems. Learn more about your ad choices. The story was reported by Wisconsin Watch's Phoebe Petrovic as part of a series of stories about discrimination in taxpayer-funded schools. The story focuses on Nat Werth, a gay student who was banned from delivering his valedictory speech in 2019 at Sheboygan Lutheran High School after officials discovered he planned to come out as gay during the speech. Reviewing the school's current handbook, Werth says the school has beefed up its anti-LGBTQ+ policies. Said Werth: “If I was a kid with gender dysphoria, or even, like, questioning how people refer to me using my pronouns or if I wanted to use a different name and I read this, if this was what the school provided to me, that would have been extremely traumatic.” Originally published on May 31, 2023.
Public schools must serve all students living within their boundaries, including those needing special accommodations. But not all neighborhood schools are to meet the needs of students with disabilities, Mario Koran reports for Wisconsin Watch. The state's biggest school choice program, open enrollment, allows students to apply to public schools outside of district boundaries. But those schools can limit or deny slots for out-of-district students with disabilities. Originally published on May 31, 2023.
The story was reported by Wisconsin Watch's Phoebe Petrovic. This is Petrovic's second story examining the laws and rules that allow publicly financed voucher schools to expel certain children for immutable characteristics, including having a disability or identifying as LGBTQ+. Originally published on May 20th, 2023.
The story was reported by Wisconsin Watch's Phoebe Petrovic, who reveals that voucher schools must accept students with disabilities and LGBTQ+ students for admission — but can expel them based on those same inherent qualities. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Public Instruction called the situation “unfortunate,” but said the agency is powerless to enforce anti-discrimination laws for students enrolled in voucher schools. There are those who will tell you today that you must come under the law of Moses or become lawless. This is a false choice. The gospel choice is between the Mosaic Covenant and the New Covenant of Christ- the flesh and the Spirit- law or grace. To not be under the law of Moses is to be under the New Covenant of the Spirit who writes the law on your mind and your heart. The gospel does not lead to lawlessness, but to a new creation in Christ Jesus.

As oil prices rise across the globe, investors wonder if governments will continue to incentivize clean energy development or pivot to greater investment in traditional fossil fuels.-----Transcript-----Welcome to Thoughts on the Market. I'm Michael Zezas, Head of Public Policy Research and Municipal Strategy for Morgan Stanley. Along with my colleagues bringing you a variety of perspectives, I'll be talking about the intersection between U.S. public policy and financial markets. It's Wednesday, March 16th, at 10:00 a.m. in New York. With the conflict in Ukraine ongoing, many investors continue to ask questions about the U.S. and European policy response to the rising price of oil. In particular, many ask if governments will continue down the path of incentivizing clean energy development, or pivot to greater exploration of traditional fossil fuels. But as my colleague Stephen Byrd, who heads North America Power Utilities and Clean Energy Research, pointed out in a recent report, this is a false choice, and it's one that many policymakers are likely to reject in favor of embracing an "all of the above" strategy. It's important to understand that focusing only on traditional energy sources wouldn't solve the problem in the near term. For example, switching on any dormant U.S. oil production facilities would only replace a fraction of the oil that Russia produces, so fresh explorations ramp up production would be needed, and that could take a few years. The same could be said about natural gas. The U.S. Has the spare capacity to backfill with Europe imports from Russia, but Europe mostly doesn't have the facilities to accept liquefied natural gas shipped overseas from America. Germany has announced plans to build two liquefied natural gas terminals, but that could take years to complete. The point is, focusing on traditional energy sources alone is no quick fix for high energy prices and energy independence, and therefore there's little opportunity cost in also focusing on renewable energy development. For that reason, we think western governments are likely to include both clean energy and traditional investments in their strategy going forward. You see this echoed in the statements of policymakers, such as U.S. Climate Envoy John Kerry's recent comments that the US is committed to an "all of the above" energy policy. So what does it mean for investors? In short, expect energy companies of all types to have business to do with governments in the coming years. That includes traditional oil exploration companies, but also clean tech companies, as market beneficiaries. Thanks for listening. If you enjoy the show, please share Thoughts on the Market with a friend or colleague, or leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. It helps more people find the show.

Speech online has transformed the way our society functions. Digital technologies allow us the freedom to express ourselves and connect with others. But as we've witnessed, they've also been used as tools to promote hateful content. The question is: how do we protect free speech while making sure they aren't used as tools to spread hate or misinformation? Tamara Small is an associate professor at the University of Guelph in the department of political science. She has spent over 15 years studying digital politics in Canada. Our host, Mohit Rajhans, speaks with Tamara about the future of free speech online. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Yesterday, I got an email from a car mat company asking me to review a recent purchase. The email – and indeed the whole buying process – had been good up to the point where they offered me a False Choice. A False Choice is a logical fallacy where the persuader intentionally offers fewer options than actually exist. In this case my options were either that A) I LOVED THEM, or B) I NEED SUPPORT. This kind of technique can be powerful, but if we take it too far the fallacy becomes obvious. Episode home: https://StoriesMeanBusiness.com/podcast/734:-The-False-Choice
One of the things we often hear from others in the legal profession is that, to be a successful lawyer, you have to fully devote yourself to it. That clients and your work must come before everything else. That if you want a robust personal life, if you want a family, that your law practice won't be as successful as it could be. You have a choice: law practice, or personal life. But this is a false choice. Because you don't have to choose one or the other. You can choose both. TAKEAWAY: if you want it, you can create a law practice that is successful and also allows you to have a successful personal life.

Jobs or the environment? Ahead of 2022, Pa. Dems thread needle on ‘false choice' by WSKG News
After a series of unrelated shootings that left multiple people injured and at least five dead around Seattle, Mayor Jenny Durkan says the city needs more police officers. The thing is, she says, the city can support its police force and community-based programs to reduce violence.
Understanding all the ways your mind doesn't understand how the process of conscious creation works is crucial to energetic transformation, and making it all a whole lot easier.
After two mass shootings in a single week, we are all reeling. And the debate about gun safety laws has returned to Washington and to our kitchen tables. It seems to KSL Newsradio's Amanda Dickson that it is a false choice to suggest that we have to choose between respect for the Second Amendment and reasonable gun safety laws. We can have both. Amanda brings up this difficult topic with her guests on A Woman's View. Her guests this week include Pamela Atkinson, community advocate and senior advisor to Governor Spencer Cox, former legislator Patrice Arent, and Dr. Lisa Stout, urologist with the Summit Urology Group. The social media environment we’re in today favors extreme extroverts, and the clear message introverts are getting is that you have to change who you are to succeed. If you're not an extrovert, better start changing yourself, otherwise you'll be left behind! This message seems to be hitting us from every direction. We hear it from the social companies, in the content they promote, to the big name influencers shouting at us to jump on Tik Tok or Clubhouse, to the latest apps and features, which are all geared at real time content and engagement. It's a false choice, there's a third option. Don't change who you are as an introvert, just build a system around you to reach people online. A system that leverages your strengths, makes up for your weaknesses and allows you to be who you are. That's what I've done with MicroFamous. Whatever is going on with online marketing, introverts don't need to change, we don't need to become more extroverted. Right now, podcasting is an ecosystem that operates completely different from social media. That's why every introverted coach, consultant, speaker or author needs to have a podcast. If you're an expert in your field, but you're not a social butterfly online, you don't need to change. You just need a marketing system that's designed for you. You can either build that from scratch, or use our shortcuts to get there. But either way, don't buy into the false choice that if you don't become an extrovert, you'll become irrelevant.
Welcome to the Engage Church Podcast. Wherever you're joining us from, thanks for tuning in. Today's message is brought by our associate Pastor, Derrick Hayes at our Midtown campus. In our culture, we are consumed with the thirst for power. We have tricked ourselves into choosing the false choice, one based upon this world's view of power rather than the Kingdom's view. In order to be Innovative Reconcilers, we must re-think, re-imagine, and remind ourselves that all power and authority comes through Christ Jesus alone. We hope you enjoy today's sermon. This week on Ring of Fire, Emma Vigeland talks to Branko Marcetic, a Jacobin staff writer and the author of Yesterday's Man: The Case Against Joe Biden, about the false choice between “fighting a pandemic” vs “saving the economy.” And Heather “Digby” Parton will help Sam wrap up this year’s show as they discuss the Trump Presidency and the characters that enabled him for the past 4 years.
"tHiS iS thE moST iMpOrtAnt eLecTiOn eVer" If I had a nickel every time I've heard this, I'd be retired on an island in the Bahamas. Nevertheless, this election does indeed seem to be much more contentious than anything we've seen in the past, certainly anything I've seen in my lifetime. The country is clearly divided, and each side believes that it holds the key to the future prosperity of the nation, and almost by proxy, the globe itself. While I feel more inclined towards the conservative side, personally I feel that Donald Trump has failed to keep many of his important promises, the very things he ran on in 2016. He failed to end the enormously destructive wars, and he presided over the largest federal budget deficit EVER, and that's not even counting the Pandemic spending, which has been absolutely unreal. The Office of the President has become a Monarchy in all but the name, with literally every word, action, and personality flaw of the person holding this office becoming exaggerated beyond comprehension. It should really just be abolished, but that's probably not going to happen. One of these two people is going to win the seat, and there will be some consequences, no matter who wins it! In this episode, I talk about what I think might happen when the dust settles, not that the dust ever really settles from elections these days. The truth is, the winner of this election really doesn't affect you as much as you might think, and you should continue to build your business regardless of these pointless (albeit entertaining) distractions! Both political parties love to use the phrase, “the most important election in history,” to plead their politics, but the appeal often misses what is really important: the heart and soul (and principles) of the American people. ‘Inside Sources with Boyd Matheson,’ Opinion Editor at Deseret News, takes you inside the latest political news and current events, providing higher ground for today's discussions. The language of the Empire and enslavement presents its adherants with a false choice: die or be enslaved by a life of sin. There is no other option than to simply play by the laws of sin and death that hold humanity in bondage. We journey towards another way when we see that Christ has broken down the law, broken down the sin structures, broken down the Empire who lumped upon us the false choice. Let a new kind of Freedom Ring!
Either-or thinking is keeping us from making good choices, both in socio-political issues and in our personal lives. In the former, false alternatives are often erected to establish partisan lines which substitutes rationalization for rational thought, keeping us further from solutions. In the latter, a similar method of rationalization (advocating for choices based on emotional considerations) keeps us from making optimal choices by never defining a rational goal.Instead, Matthew argues that we ought to define our desired goals more precisely to enable us to be more objective in evaluating proposed solutions to problems. He refers to a recent Ben Bayer article and ideas from his two most recent guests to help us unpack what's going on, and uses Covid-19, hitting and fighting in hockey, guns, and other examples to help illustrate and contrast helpful and unhelpful approaches. Transcript“Every night... we are literally cheering and clapping and beeping our horns for people that in many ways we're unwilling to fight for so that they could have $15 an hour. We call people essential workers now who we treated for so long, like anything but essential.” -Rashad Robinson In this episode, our co-host, Dr. Celine Gounder speaks to Rashad Robinson, Alicia Garza, and Marshall Ganz about essential workers such as caregivers, domestic workers, and agricultural workers. They discuss how these low-paying jobs are often staffed by immigrants and people of color, and how due to systemic racism these jobs have historically been excluded from laws and unions that protect workers. Essential workers are now being given the false choice between going to work and risking their health, or staying home and not being able to feed their families. Alicia Garza is the principal at Black Futures Lab, the co-creator of the Black Lives Matter Global Network, and the strategy and partnerships director for the National Domestic Workers Alliance. Rashad Robinson is the President of Color of Change, a racial justice organization, and Marshall Ganz is a labor organizer and senior lecturer at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In this episode, I discuss the anti-lockdown protests and opposition to ongoing quarantining in the face of COVID-19. Rather than focusing on the extremist gun nuts, anti-vaxxers, and conspiracy loons behind some of this activity, I focus on the more reasonable fears of average, everyday folks, simply worried about the economy and their ability to support their families. But as I explain, however reasonable their fears may be, the assumption that we must choose our money/jobs or our lives/health is false. It is a position into which people have been placed only because right-wing ideology and policymakers resist the kinds of government support for families and workers that other nations provide as a matter of course. We could be doing the same things as nations like Denmark, for instance -- paying their people significant sums to stay home until the danger passes -- but our cultish devotion to the so-called free market and limited safety nets makes that unthinkable. And yet, using two thought experiments, I show that we WOULD do those larger state interventions IF the victims of COVID-19 were disproportionately white, affluent, healthy, and in the prime of their lives. Similarly, we would take that route if the virus had a much greater ability to spread or was as deadly as say, a chemical weapons attack. The fact that we could go the direction of a huge government support effort, but aren't doing that currently, proves that we value some lives more than others and that we value our ideology far more than the lives we're sure to lose if social distancing measures are lifted.
The sheltering and quarantining will continue. For how long, we’re not sure. As protests bubble up, 26 million people are now unemployed and people still fear the consequences of opening back up too soon, what will finally be the breaking point? Eric and Joe dispel the false binary about reopening and lay out real choices we need to start making. Illinois Senate President Don Harmon asks for a federal bailout of our fiscal basket-case of a state. Never let a good crisis go to waste, right? Friendly reminder: there’s still a presidential election going on. Will Trump’s immunity from the “really around the flag” effect on presidential approval ratings that president’s usually enjoy spell doom for him in November? And finally, a Morning Consult poll on the best sports movies seems to suffer from a big definitional problem of what exactly is a “sport."
Chris Spangle, Harry Price, Rhinehold, and Levie Rainey discuss the path forward. We open with some examples from history that bring us hope and wonderful moments of community sprouting up across the country. We then discuss the future months as we begin to go back to work in the middle of a "new normal." Video - https://youtu.be/PKQ-5RKGE This episode is brought to you by Dashing Media Management. Chris Spangle, Harry Price, Rhinehold, and Hodey Johns discuss and debate the binary choice presented on social media of "open the economy" vs. "let millions die." The realities of a global pandemic combined with an economic meltdown are more complex and hopeful than many are making it sound. We try to parse out where the truth lies. Then we look at the failure of regulators and why we need to hold the President, the FDA, and the CDC accountable once this crisis has concluded. Our guest is Dr. Vincent Markovchick, emergency room doctor for 40 years, 20 years as director of Denver Health Emergency Services. The podcast begins with clips of candidate and media comments echoing industry talking points regarding health care reform. Represented are presidential Candidates John Delaney, Pete Buttigieg, Michael Bennet, Michael Bloomberg and Joe Biden; and 2 Colorado U.S. Senate candidates, Cory Gardner and John Hickenlooper. Also captured are remarks of 2 NPR reporters, Steve Inskeep and Mara Liasson. Most candidates promote some form of "Faux Medicare," a "public option" that maintains administratively complex and costly private insurance plans at their center. The health care reform debate in 2020, driven by corporate media and candidates, is based on many false pretenses, including the notion that people have a meaningful "choice" of private insurance. Any "choice" is in fact exercised by private insurance companies, who can at will drop the insured, drop their plans, medicines, as well as doctors and hospitals from their narrow networks, leaving people high and dry, subject to high medical bills and medical bankruptcy.View permanent library of other Truthseekers - Health Justice Podcasts Support the show (https://www.denveropenmedia.org/podcast/library#truthseekers)

As a guy who started with $0 in the bank 20+ years ago & now personally earns well into 8 figures a year, I've been around the broke & the ballers, losers & winners...& I can tell you this: those who never experience all the valuable things in life...the stuff money can buy & the stuff it can't...definitely suffer from an either/or mentality. They believe in a false choice & they even believe something false about God. So they waste their lives. Don't want that to happen to you? Listen to this podcast.

Life takes a turn but the good content keeps on coming! On this edition of The Way with Anoa, Anoa talks with Josh Mound about his piece "Resolving the Democrats False Choice" in The New Republic. Josh aproaches the current false choice of choosing marginalized communities or reclaiming support amongst "working class white" voters. Josh points out that embracing policies that appeal to working-class people across race, without abandoning racial and social justice is key to turning things around. While two races have occurred since this interview, Mike's commentary is still spot on. Check out his pieces at Progressive Army http://progressivearmy.com/author/msainato/

Splitting them up between systems of record (ERP) and systems of engagement (user-facing apps) is a popular mode of thinking, highly related to bi-modal IT. In this episode, guest Ian Andrews explains why this framing is a bad idea and offers a value-driven way of thinking about it instead, along with plenty of commentary from Coté and Richard. Former Prof. Melissa Click famously asked for "muscle" to intimidate a student journalist at the race demonstrations at MizzU last fall. She was charged with a 3rd degree felony, ordered to serve community service and fired from the university. Instead of owning up for her failings, she's offering a bevy of excuses. It's something we can all learn from. Take a listen.

AP President and CEO Gary Pruitt argues that a free and independent press is fundamental to a functioning democracy. It differentiates democracy from dictatorship; separates a free society from tyranny. Governments who try to set up a situation where citizens think they must choose between a free press and security are making a mistake that will ultimately weaken, not strengthen them. It’s not a real choice. It’s a false choice. Series: "Richard and Rhoda Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley" [Public Affairs] [Show ID: 25945]
