The Finding: Jesus of Nazareth

To find him is like finding the PEARL OF GREAT PRICE.Or, like the man who knew that an unbelievable spiritual treasure was buried in the field but not knowing exactly where. So he went and bought the whole field! He wanted to make sure that he found that treasure, the Lord Jesus Christ. And you, have you found Him? Do you know the joy of here, and eternal fellowship, with the Son of the Living God? Whatever you have to give up or do to make this incredible PERSONAL SPIRITUAL FINDING, you should do it immediately if you have not already done so. He bled and died for you. He rose again, and has returned to the Father where:FOR YOUhe now prepares an eternal place:FOR YOU.Even Hollywood, so empty spiritually, so dependent upon sex and drugs, glamour and fame, and those actors and actresses who populate the Hollywood swamp, searching for meaning, for love, for real fulfillment, now in so many ways:COME TO JESUS.Have you? Has your family, spouse, children, grandparents, grandchildren, have they hopefully, like you, found the Living Lord? The secular world, often satanically driven, hopes you and they have not. But HE, loving you, is always there, ALWAYS!There may well be at work a revival, a spiritual revival, in Hollywood. It may be slow in happening, imperceptible at times, but there everywhere, waiting like HE is.But perhaps the Jesus Movement 2025 grows and in some cases, grows aggressively. There seems to be a new quest for eternal truth among youth, millennials, Gen-Z'rs, knowing as so many do that marijuana and cocaine, and in fact all drugs, can never satisfy. They become attracted by the eternal love and forgiveness of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ of Glory. Such a Hollywood-er is LOLA SHEEN, daughter of actor Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards. Lola Sheen brought to Hollywood and the entire world this testimony:JESUS SAVED ME!At the ripe old age of 19 after, in her words, hitting rock bottom and suffering from the horrible disease of:IMMENSE HOPELESSNESS.Lola Sheen was so happy and thrilled with her new life, now full of happiness, peace, and eternal joy, JESUS JOY!Lola Sheen testified that she grew up with parents who were dedicated to the Hollywood industry, and as a result she said:I ALWAYS FELT SUPER ALONE.She said she could never find something that felt like home, both temporal and spiritual. Lola Sheen, like 40% of high school students so says the CDC, felt sad and hopeless, not knowing of any remedy. Therapy, drugs, nothing helped. She openly shares an incredible testimony. She said of her encounter with Jesus Christ:“I really don't know how else to put it except the fact that Jesus came in my room. His presence came to me. I felt this overwhelming sense of peace.”We can be sure that Hollywood ridiculed that epiphany, but to Lola Sheen, nothing in her life was more real. Her life, she said, is “forever changed.”There really is a youth revival at work. At the University of Kentucky, hundreds upon hundreds of youths were baptized as Christians. THE POWER OF THE LIVING CHRIST IS INDEED AT WORK IN THE GREAT YEAR 2025.Even in the secular, often anti-Christian Hollywood swamp, there comes a new enlightenment with regard to entertainment product which caters to the FAITH AND FAMILY AUDIENCE. That cinematic neglect forced Christian and family-friendly entertainment production companies to independently create outside the traditional system. Often these faith-based films, produced on flimsy budgets, delivered stunning profit margins and incredible attendance, evidencing the hunger of so many Christians and others indeed for such films. Now, PRIME, an Amazon streaming platform, will release the TV series:HOUSE OF DAVIDwhich essentially chronicles the fall of King Saul and the rise of Israel's most famous king, King David. 3000 years after his death, Hollywood will now pay honor and tribute to this incredible biblical hero and servant of the great God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. DAVID AND GOLIATH will come back to life! The saga of the shepherd boy and the giant lives again. It is so rewarding for us as Christians to know that there is at least a small part of Hollywood which recognizes the value of anything Jesus, faith-based, value-laden, and perhaps, God-willing, there is more to come. There may be as one writer said, a seismic, star-aligning shift in Hollywood's willingness to bring Biblical content into the mainstream fold. May it be so.You should watch this epic series HOUSE OF DAVID on Prime TV.You should also watch:THE CHOSEN,another excellent series based on the life and the followers of Jesus Christ and search the various streaming platforms for more faith-based content, which is there in some form or another.I for one say, PRAISE THE LORD, the great Almighty and the great I AM for the spiritual influence and motivation which makes this radical and extremely necessary change-back happen. The bottom line of these new cinematic adventures has one essential spiritual and eternal priority:TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

A Note from James:I have to say, this next guest has recently become one of my all-time favorite writers, presenting a very different style from what I'm accustomed to. I started reading one of his books, and it turned out to be "Table for Two," which includes some short fiction and a novella titled "Even Hollywood." At the time, I didn't know it was the sequel to his first novel, ""Rules of Civility."He also wrote "A Gentleman in Moscow," one of the best books I've ever read. In fact, by the time this podcast is released, it will have been adapted into a TV series starring Ewan McGregor, which looks amazing. All of his books rank among the best fiction I've ever encountered.I highly recommend "A Gentleman in Moscow," "Table for Two," "Rules of Civility," and "The Lincoln Highway." the latter of which I'm currently reading post-podcast. I hope to speak with Mr. Towles again, as I now have questions about "The Lincoln Highway." He was incredibly open about his writing process, which differs significantly from those of other writers I've discussed in my ten years of conversations. It was such a pleasure to delve into his experiences and how he crafts his books.I can't express enough how much I admire Amor Towles, author of "A Gentleman in Moscow" and the upcoming collection "Table for Two." I also recommend checking out the TV series adaptation of "A Gentleman in Moscow." Amor Towles' Books:"Rules of Civility""A Gentleman in Moscow""The Lincoln Highway""Table for Two" Episode Description: This discussion with Amor Towles offers a profound insight into his unique approach to writing, character creation, and thematic exploration across his notable works, including 'A Gentleman in Moscow' and 'Rules of Civility.' The conversation sheds light on Towles' years-long process of developing three-dimensional characters, reflecting on the societal roles and individual identities within his narratives. Towles discusses the influence of his investment background on his disciplined approach to writing, and the cultural impact of his work, including television adaptations. He emphasizes the importance of empathy, identity, resilience, and the authenticity of his characters, illustrating the nuanced interplay between an individual's role within society and their journey. Additionally, Towles shares insights on the contrasting crafts of novel and short story writing, and his transition from a career in finance to becoming a celebrated author, highlighting the ever-relevant nature of his thematic concerns in historical and contemporary contexts.Episode Summary:00:00 Introduction to a Favorite Writer and His Works02:35 Diving Deep into the Writing Process with Amor Towles04:41 Exploring Character Development and the Art of the Novel17:03 The Craft of Writing: From Concept to Language28:53 The Richness of Language and the Writer's Knowledge38:24 Exploring the Art of Writing: Insights and Metaphors39:41 Character Development and the Power of Subconscious Creativity42:36 The Revision Process: Crafting and Refining a Story46:54 Navigating Historical Contexts and Character Perspectives57:52 The Complexity of Social Classes and Personal Identity01:04:40 Interconnected Stories and Characters Across Novels01:13:10 Exploring the Creative Process Behind a Novella01:13:47 The Noir Tradition and Writing Style01:15:43 The Unique Appeal of Short Stories01:17:10 Experimenting with Narrative Perspectives01:20:50 The Art of Surprise in Short Stories01:23:24 Personal Reflections in Writing01:28:57 Adapting Novels for Television01:33:10 The Aspirational Nature of 'A Gentleman in Moscow'01:35:06 Patience and Process in Writing and Investing01:42:20 Concluding Thoughts and Future Projects ------------What do YOU think of the show? This is leading to quite the commotion as one can imagine as it's essentially vindication that everything we were saying was right. However, it's not over and the case still must go to the court of appeals. Meanwhile, Tim Robbins who of course is a well known Hollywood left leaning celebrity is supporting the decision and as he has been for month, calling out SAG-AFTRA (the union for actors and filmmakers) for continuing to impose a vaccine mandate despite the CDC itself saying that the mandates made no sense. So, indeed, the tide is turning. But towards what? Friday 9th July Supernatural Interventions 9 People are generally fascinated by the supernatural because we are all spirits and there is a craving deep within our spirit to connect with our roots in the supernatural. Acts. 8:9-11 gives us the account of a sorcerer named Simon, he had everyone in the city under his control by his powers, he was called the great power of God. Everyone, rich, poor, young, old, male and female were spellbound by him, the simple truth is that people are generally amazed at anything supernatural. Jesus' ministry was not an exception, crowds followed Him everywhere, even the very erudite Nicodemus who was in the top echelon of the society came to see Him because there is an attraction we have for the supernatural. Even Hollywood is not left out, of the top 3 highest grossing movies 2 of them have supernatural storylines. We all have a curiosity and some sort of quest for the supernatural, extraordinary life, it's in our imagination and dreams and deep within our spirit we know it. Let's look at Acts 9:3-5 (NLT) "And as he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him and he fell to the ground; and he heard a voice say to him Saul, Saul why are you persecuting me? Who are you Lord? Saul asked, `I am Jesus the one you are persecuting." Saul was a staunch pharisee and religious activist who didn't believe in Jesus nor recognized His Lordship. On his way to Damascus to persecute Christians, he had a supernatural encounter with Jesus and his response to Jesus when He called him was, "Who are you Lord?" Why did he use the word LORD? It was Paul's spirit responding, his core being recognised the LORDSHIP of Jesus. Years after Paul's conversion he went to Athens and saw that the people were very religious on one of the many altars was the inscription “TO AN UNKNOWN GOD", the people knew deep within them that there was a being or something above and beyond them and they addressed this supernatural being as the unknown god. Today we see this crave for the supernatural expressed in our different religions and beliefs; Buddhist, Islam, Christianity, Hindus to Atheism etc. They all are trying to connect to a supernatural being or disconnect as the case may be. Just as a baby instinctively knows how to suckle from the breast of the mother and the digestive system knows how to transform the milk into energy, the human spirit also instinctively gravitates to the things of the spirit and can relate with the supernatural because it is built into the core of our spirit. My prayer is that God satisfies your quest in your spirit for the supernatural in the name of Jesus. May He reveal Himself to you in new and powerful ways in Jesus' Name. God bless you and enjoy your weekend.

As women, we tend to care more about what people think and are more reluctant to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone.I do actually have a theory about this that isn't proven but it's just something that I've been thinking about a lot recently. Now I don't know whether it's true or not but I'd love to get your view on it so let me know!I believe the reason why women tend to be more susceptible to imposter syndrome and more reluctant to push themselves outside of our comfort zone is because...Primitively in our cave people days, men were forced to push themselves outside of their comfort zone, where they were the hunter gatherers and literally had to go out for the kill.Whereas, women were the care-givers looking after the children and the home, and as such, they weren't really forced to push themselves outside of their comfort zones. Our brains are millions of years old and haven't really evolved since our primal days, which this is why we have to give ourselves credit for the idea of doing new things feeling scary and HARD.I always ask my clients who are scared to get visible and put themselves out there: "what are you afraid of?" and I dig deeper through asking them "why?" over and over again, until we get to the root cause. You can do this exercise on your own through journaling, keep asking yourself "why do I feel this way?", it might take 3 why's, it might take 10 why's, but you will finally get to the "bottom why", which is your limiting belief that's keeping you safe, telling you it's BETTER to be comfortable and not get visible. This might be fear of judgement of what other people think as you've always been criticised, or negative self-talk that you're not good enough as this is what you've always been told. It's really important for us to understand why we're behaving in a certain way, because beliefs become thoughts, thoughts become behaviours, and behaviours become actions.Unfortunately, a lot of our beliefs aren't even ours as we're conditioned from the age of 0-7, where we're absorbing everything our parents tell us and accepting it as the truth and fact.So ask yourself: "what is holding me back from getting visible?" and/or "what's stopping me from putting myself outside of my comfort zone?"Once you have that awareness, you're half way there.I've found with a lot of the women I work with that the fear of getting visible roots from feeling like an imposter or a fraud, but what I tell them is that everyone is faking it and nobody is 100% confident. Even Hollywood stars like Emma Watson have been vocal about suffering with imposter syndrome! So don't beat yourself up for feeling like an imposter or a fraud, it's perfectly normal and to be honest, it would be abnormal if you felt totally confident in yourself!Ask yourself: "what is it that I'm afraid of?". Are you afraid that people are going to find out that you're not perfect? Well... NEWS FLASH!!! Nobody is perfect! We're all just winging our way through this crazy journey called life, so we need to be kinder to ourselves and remind ourselves that nobody is expecting us to show up as perfect! In fact, if you share your mistakes, struggles and challenges, people will be more likely to relate to you and want to invest in your services, so it's actually better to show up as your authentic self!People buy from people who offer a solution to their problem. So if you offer a solution to your client's problem and they connect with you as a person, that client is pretty much in the bag.People want to know who you really are, deep deep down, so stop pretending to be somebody you're not and start showing up as your true self.In regards to fear, instead of asking yourself: "what's the worst that could happen?", ask yourself: "what's the best that could happen?!".

Our world has opened up to different techniques, and with it have come incredible stories of Tibetan yogis able to generate such body heat that they can survive sitting for days on ice, without any clothing needed. Even Hollywood has come on board, big time and long ago. After all, wouldn't meditation, provided we do it in the right way, give us the supernatural abilities shown in the Matrix trilogy: dodging the bullets, mind-travelling, foreseeing the future? Because when talking about meditation, one thing is for sure. If you meditate regularly and wholeheartedly (as if your hair were burning), you will be guaranteed to: Feel love and compassion for complete strangers. Understand what your cat is telling you. Lose any appetite for personal ambitions. Lose your ability to differentiate between waking state and dreams. Pray for the life of a mosquito. Taste an orange as if for the very first time. Still argue with your significant other – yet find it increasingly more like a game, not a war. Stop dead in a beam of sunlight, with a blessed smile on your face. See through death. Laugh out loud at the concept of superpowers.

The address 1140 Royal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana may sound quite average to most people. Unfortunately, this address has seen far more than its fair share of horror. Standing tall and proud, this home fits right in on the cultured New Orleans square. You probably wouldn’t even give it a second glance if you walked by - other than to maybe admire its historic facade. You would be surprised to find that this typical looking abode has a sordid past. Even Hollywood has looked to its tragic track record for inspiration because this location was the site of murder, torture, and has been speculated about since 1834. The end times thats been a pretty popular subject the last few years it seems. Even Hollywood has gotten into the act with several films centered around end time disasters. People are preparing to live off the grid when it all comes crashing down. Everybody seems to have something to say about what it will be like in the last days. We're returning to our series ''Jesus - The Real Action Hero'' and this week we're on Mark Chapter 13. The chapter opens with Jesus making a shocking prediction about the Temple in Jerusalem. That prediction opened the door for Jesus to teach some lessons on the end times. Most of us have lots of questions when it comes to discussing the end of time. I cant think of a better person to learn about it from than Jesus.

The Good Catholic Life is on summer vacation! In the meantime, we're bringing you some of our favorite shows. We will return on August 14 with an all-new show. Summary of today's show: Chuck Hall has had a long journey through just about every Christian denomination until finally landing in the Catholic Church, where he is now preparing for ordination as a deacon. Scot Landry and Fr. Mark O'Connell listen to Chuck tell his tale, from hippy to evangelical Christian to Catholic in 2008, and how he furthered discerned the call to the diaconate. Also the role that G.K. Chesterton played in his conversion. Listen to the show: Today's host(s): Scot Landry and Fr. Mark O'Connell Today's guest(s): Chuck Hall Links from today's show: Today's topics: A convert becomes a Catholic deacon with help from Chesterton 1st segment: Scot asked Fr. Mark about the concert by the Three Priests that we did a show about last week. Fr. Mark said they sang all the standards and the concert hall had many priests in it. He said most of the priests were dressed casually, except they all had black pants and black socks and were easily picked out. Scot said this week was a Mass celebrating men who have been ordained for 25 years. Fr. Mark said he was a first year theology student in the seminary when these men were fourth year. Twelve men were present for the Mass, while four more couldn't attend because they are serving outside the archdiocese. Fr. Mark said this week he had his third-year theology seminarians for Mass this week at the Pastoral Center. 2nd segment: Scot welcomed Chuck Hall. He's studying for the diaconate and is a parishioner at Our Lady of Hope in Ipswich. Scot asked him about his preparation for the diaconate. Chuck said it's been an incredible experience and it's being revealed why God led him to this place. He has great affection for the deacon brothers and their families he's in formation with. There are 15 men in his class from a variety of backgrounds. Chuck said he's so busy with formation now, he's not as involved in his parish as he was, but he previously started the Wednesday evening prayer group and has been active in Bible studies. He's also been involved in music in the life of the Church. This is new for him. One of the surprises of formation was that his musical past has a place in his life in the Church. His love for music in the past came flowing back to him in an unexpected way. Scot said Chuck is halfway through the four-year program. He said the first year is a year of discernment. He talked about one of his first classes, which helps with spiritual discernment. Fr. Mark asked about the wives' involvement. Chuck said his wife came to every single activity in the first year, but in the second year she missed a class and broke her perfect attendance. Scot recalled his time in the seminary and having the time to slow down and pray and discern, and that was tough to maintain when he left. Chuck said one of the lessons from a class this year was the understanding of a number of things about the Catholic that he never fully grasped before. As a convert, he doesn't have the reflexive knowledge of the faith that others have. To see it broken out in the class, he understands now the why and how. He's learned for the first time how the Mass is a sacrament, what baptism is about and how it introduces us to the life of God. Chuck says becoming a deacon was not his idea, but when he looked into, all the doors opened, and all the other doors closed. God was telling him he as enough information and God wanted him to have more formation. Chuck said after becoming Catholic he got involved in the parish, helping start a prayer group and responding to an ad in the bulletin for Eucharistic ministers at a local hospital, which has been very fruitful. He went to the pastor and gave him his idea for starting a prayer group in the parish. The pastor said, Ask the pastor and then go do it. He was surprised at the lack of bureaucracy. In the course of that, people he would encounter at the parish or hospital or at the software company he worked at would ask him if he'd thought about the diaconate. One time at the hospital, he visited a patient. When he came in the room, the man was talking on his phone to someone and at the end of the conversation, the man said, “I have to go,. The deacon is here to talk to me.” When he talked to his priest, he told him that God seemed to be calling him. Chuck said the deacon has a particular role in the Church, different from priests or religious or laypeople. They have one foot in the world and one foot in the parish. They are always in places that priests or religious are not. The particular call to the diaconate is a call to be an icon in the world. It involves a deep commitment. Scot said Chuck attended his first Mass in 2006 and only came into the Church in 2008 from Evangelical Christianity. He said one of the misconceptions of people considering the call is that it's all up to them, but instead it's up to both the Church and the person discerning. If the Church decides the deacon candidate is not being call to the ministry, then that's it. Chuck said that as a convert he had a strong sense of the integrity of the Magisterium and believes that the Church isn't going o let him down. The Church wants to help form him and discern for him and he's going to let them do that. Fr. Mark said he read the Chuck defended the Church even before he was Catholic. It happened around the time of the scandals and in conversations with a friend about conspiracy theories surrounding the “DaVinci Code” and gnostic writings. He had suggested that his friend should read some materials, and as he was digging into the early Church fathers, he began to see the evidence for the Church's claims. One of the books he suggested was . As he began to hear about the scandals, despite being a Presbyterian, he began to feel that it was his Church being attacked, that all Christians had a stake in the Church. In most of the world, when people think Christians, they think Catholic. Even Hollywood always equates the two. So there must be something about theChurch is she's always the target and always has this body of wisdom in it. He said G.K. Chesterton is very unusual: It's both too militant and too passive, too much this and too much the opposite. So he picked up a copy of the Catechism and see what the Church really believes. It produced a full picture of his own belief, but opening it all up even further. He began to feel that this is Jesus' Church. Scot said its natural for a Christian man to defend what's important to you. He said a lot of men return to the Church because they feel called to defend it and so they pick up the Catechism and take other steps to lose their faith. Scot said Chuck came of age in the 60s and began to respond to Christ's call in the 70s. He went through a lot of different Christian groups. Chuck said when he filled out his application for the diaconate program he was supposed to fill out a spiritual biography. It was pointed out to him how he zigged and zagged through is life, but from his own viewpoint it's a straight line in how he responded to God at any particular point in time. His first “God moment” was when he was 8 and went to see a friend and she was at Catechism class at her Catholic church. As he was walking home, he thought, “If God exists, that's all that matters.” He recalls thinking that's too big for him, but that it's true. His parents dropped him off at the local Protestant church on Sundays to get a religious education that for a faith they didn't share with him. So there was a lot of input from religion so when his life was beginning to fall apart in the late 60s, it was natural for him to turn to God. There came a moment when he was at a party in 1971 that was next to a church. He saw a friend take drugs and nearly die and he turned to God in the church and told Him he couldn't do it anymore. When he told his friends that, he was directed to a new pastor in town. The pastor found himself sitting with two hippies smoking away, but Chuck was told for the first time that Jesus died for him. At school at University of New Hampshire, Chuck became involved with Campus Crusade for Christ. It took a long time for him to really start changing. He was introduced to a lot of great writers and philosophers, like C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton. His testimony is that he cried out to God and He heard Chuck's cry. God reached out to Chuck. Chuck started with the conservative Baptists, where he learned to love his Bible. Then he took a turn to Reformed theology, including Presbyterian Church in America. He began to sense there was more to the picture, including the corporal works of mercy. He came to understand that these things need to be part of his life. He went to his minister and asked how to discern how to show these things in his life. The minister told Chuck that if he's called to these, the minister will know before Chuck will. Chuck knew that was the wrong answer. When Chuck would take communion at the Presbyterian church (not Catholic communion, they don't believe in the Real Presence) once per month like they did, he would be in tears. This was the beginning of his move to Catholicism. Scot said he read in Chuck's biography of the importance of G.K. Chesterton for those thinking of converting to Catholicism. Chuck said he was introduced to Chesterton through his Father Brown mystery stories. He realized that there was a lot more in the books than just a mystery. At one point, he was at Keene State College studying classical guitar and he met a used book store owner he sold him many Chesterton books. He began to realize while he was reading “Orthodoxy” that he was becoming accustomed to the way the mind works and how one forms a philosophy. Chesterton, who was not a theologian, but a journalist, wrote about what the Catholic mind thinks about. When Chuck finally decided to convert to Catholicism, all that Chesterton he'd read came back to him. Fr. Mark asked where someone should start with Chesterton. Chuck said the Father Brown stories is a good place to start. 3rd segment: Now as we do every week at this time, we will consider the Mass readings for this Sunday, specifically the Gospel reading. The whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, “Would that we had died at the LORD's hand in the land of Egypt, as we sat by our fleshpots and ate our fill of bread! But you had to lead us into this desert to make the whole community die of famine!” Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will now rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my instructions or not. “I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them: In the evening twilight you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread, so that you may know that I, the LORD, am your God.” In the evening quail came up and covered the camp. In the morning a dew lay all about the camp, and when the dew evaporated, there on the surface of the desert were fine flakes like hoarfrost on the ground. On seeing it, the Israelites asked one another, “What is this?” for they did not know what it was. But Moses told them, “This is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.” Gospel for the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, August 5, 2012 (John 6:24–35) When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus. And when they found him across the sea they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” Jesus answered them and said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.” So they said to him, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.” So they said to him, “What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do? Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.? So Jesus said to them, ”Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” Scot asked how can you miss the complaints of the Israelites? They're cranky because they're hungry, but even despite that God supplied them materially with the food so they wouldn't be hungry and so they would know he cares for them. Fr. Mark said none of us can excuse ourselves. How often do we grumble against God? But God in the Old Testament says okay, so I will feed you. So now the disciples ask Jesus what he will feed them. More than physical food, he gives the food that feeds our body and soul. Scot said Jesus says they came to him because the disciples at the loaves and are filled. How often do we pray for material things thinking that will be for our good. Jesus instead says do not work for the material things. The apostles had just seen this monstrous miracle of feeding the thousands from a few loaves and fishes. But Jesus says the true bread from heaven is the one that gives life for the world in every possible way. Of course, they ask for it and he says that he is the bread of life. Jesus gives life. Jesus is life. Fr. Mark said after all the ways God has blessed us, our attitude can be “What else you got?” if we're only looking at worldly things. Jesus wants us to keep our eyes fixed on heaven, not on the world. Scot said we say to God, help me get the life you want for me. Fr. Mark said for that to happen, we have to be silent in our prayer to listen for the voice of God.

There are 50 men in his class from a variety of backgrounds. When Chuck finally decided to convert to Catholicism, all that Chesterton he'd read came back to him. Fr. Mark asked where someone should start with Chesterton. Chuck said the Father Brown stories is a good place to start. Now as we do every week at this time, we will consider the Mass readings for this Sunday, specifically the Gospel reading. When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and, falling at his feet, paid him homage. Peter, however, raised him up, saying, “Get up. I myself am also a human being.” Then Peter proceeded to speak and said, “In truth, I see that God shows no partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly While Peter was still speaking these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word. The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles also, for they could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God. Then Peter responded, “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit even as we have?” He ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Gospel for the Sixth Sunday of Easter, May 13, 2012 (John 15:9-17) Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father”s commandments and remain in his love.” “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy might be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another.” Scot said three words jump out from the gospel: love, joy, friends. Love appears often in the Gospels, yet in contemporary society we don't appreciate the love Jesus speaks about here. The love Jesus is talking about is agape, self-sacrificial love. He's willing to lay down our life for us and we respond by being willing to lay down our lives for him. Chuck said he's learned in his study of Theology of the Body is that self-giving love is the love of God for us. God gives himself to us and we do the same for one another. Scot said in the first reading, St. Peter and the apostles are deliberating whether the love of God was for just the Jews or the whole world. Fr. Mark said the conclusion is yes, the whole world, and Peter demonstrates this with Cornelius. Like Peter choose Cornelius, so God chooses us. We're all invited to the table of the lamb. God chooses every single one of us. Scot said God has appointed us to go and bread fruit that will be everlasting. It's not just for us to love Jesus back, but to go and bear fruit. Chuck said one of his great discoveries in becoming Catholic is the appreciation we have for the sense that we participate in the life of God, that he is the eternal exchange of love between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The way we participate in that is by the way go and bear fruit in the world. Scot said as we look to Mother's Day, consider how all our mothers have laid down their lives for us. Scott, Fr. Mark, and Chuck wished Happy Mother's Day to mothers and wives.
