Limerick's Georgina Miller Georgina is an actress, writer and voice-over artist. She's also a graduate of the full-time actor training course at the Gaiety School of Acting. Georgina won the award for Best Actress from the Guinness ISDA Festival for her performance in "At the Black Pig's Dyke" (MIDAS). In this month's episode she talks to us about her debut play, a hybrid aerial show called "Freefalling". Freefalling is an autobiographic play about a backpacking trip in her 30s during which she developed the incredibly rare Guillain-Barre syndrome which left her paralysed, alone and fearing for her life on a hospital bed in Samoa. Spoiler: she lives to tell the tale. Hear and see it for yourself at the Limetree Theatre in Limerick City in September and at this year's Dublin Theatre Festival in Draíocht in Dublin in October.  Freefalling is a co-production between Rough Magic Theatre Company and Limetree Theatre in association with Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Company.  In this episode we discuss the absolute dud that was the Grey's Anatomy musical episode; the creative process of turning your trauma into art and learning to distance yourself from the story; finding a team of collaborators you can trust to guide your work; the divide between the self as writer and the self as performer; and quieting the voice inside that says you can't do something.  https://x.com/RoughMagicIRL https://dublintheatrefestival.ie/event/freefalling/  https://limetreebelltable.ie/events/freefalling-2/  https://www.instagram.com/rough.magic  The Limerick Lady is a grassroots movement based in Limerick, Ireland, with a focus on promoting conversation around gender, visibility, gender balance and the arts. Aidan Turner and Face2Face host David Peck talk about his new TV series Leonardo, mystery and wonder, curiosity, nature versus nurture, solving puzzles, ego, painting the details and why humility is underrated.TrailerSynopsis:A compelling look at one of the most restlessly brilliant men of all time, Leonardo gets inside the mind of the genius, showing the drama behind his art, and exploring a tantalizing mystery left unexplained by biographers – the nature of his relationship with the model Caterina da Cremona.Caterina’s apparent murder – and the painting’s disappearance – make for a mystery full of twists and turns that takes us through the key years of Leonardo’s artistic life, leading to a thrilling climax nearly as ingenious as one of Leonardo’s own creations.About Aidan:Aidan Turner was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1983. After graduating from the Gaiety School of Acting in 2004, Aidan appeared in a number of stage productions, many with Ireland's national theatre, The Abbey. Such productions included The Plough & The Stars, Romeo & Juliet and A Cry from Heaven. In 2008, Turner made the transition to movies and television with a lead role in the film Alarm and a co-starring role in the popular Irish TV drama The Clinic. In 2009, Turner moved to the UK to take on a starring role in BBC's acclaimed Being Human. Aidan played the spellbinding Mitchell for 3 seasons during which time he also starred in BBC's Desperate Romantics and BBC's top rated TV movie Hattie. In 2011, famed director Peter Jackson cast Turner in the role of Kili in JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit. The highly successful movie trilogy filmed for approximately two years in New Zealand during which time Aidan also starred in Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments. In 2014 Turner was cast as Poldark in the BBC remake. Poldark premiered to excellent rating in the UK in March 2015 and also in the USA in June 2015. Research is one of the keys to Alex Barclay’s incredible success, with ideas developing from chance conversations with experts. Sam Blake quizzes her on her unique process, character building and how she tackled her first stand alone. Finding out how she writes and why isolation is so important to her,  Alex Barclay is a former Irish (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ireland) journalist turned crime (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_fiction) writer who was the first Irish female crime writer to get a significant deal that spawned No 1 bestsellers in multiple territories, with her debut novel Darkhouse. Darkhouse was the first of two novels featuring NYPD (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NYPD) detective Joe Lucchesi. The book, set in Texas, New York and County Waterford, achieved strong reviews and was translated into 18 languages. After two novels in the Joe Lucchesi series, Barclay created Ren Bryce series, a bipolar FBI detective who took her through six more books. She has also branched out into YA fantasy and more recently has written the standalone I Confess plus a new YA novel. Barclay studied journalism with French at Dublin City University (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin_City_University) , graduating in 1996. Her course included a period of study in France, at Nanterre University (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanterre_University) in Paris (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris) , when she lived and worked part-time. Subsequently she also trained at the Gaiety School of Acting (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaiety_School_of_Acting) , afterwards appearing, for example, on television with Podge and Rodge (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podge_and_Rodge) . Barclay worked for magazines including U Magazine and the RTE Guide (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTE_Guide) before turning to crime writing. http://thecomedycast.com/ Today you'll be hearing from Irish stand-up comedian Anna Clifford. We kick off the interview speaking about Anna's day job and how being a vegetarian doesn't exactly help We recorded this before St Patrick's Day so we had a chat about the day, what it means for Irish people and what we get up to. We get onto comedy then and we speak about how and why Anna got into comedy and we talk about Anna studying at The Gaiety School of Acting and how she knew from an early age that she always wanted to entertain, we also speak about a comedy course she took while living in Vancouver, Canada. We natter then about how since getting into stand-up comedy and performing Anna has taken a real academic approach to it, reading up and studying the craft behind the art. We have a chat about what it's like to be on stage and I ask Anna if she can put it into words the feeling of knowing an audience is loving your set I ask Anna then about what she does if it goes wrong on a particular night and what she does to pick herself up. This leads us on to speaking about how she works on her sets, watching back recordings but also how she hates doing it and where she needs to be to do it. We talk about Anna's comedic influences growing up and the kinds of TV programmes she was watching We speak about Anna's first comedy gig, in a massive theatre in Canada following completion of her comedy course in Vancouver. We talk then about the stand-up community in Dublin, how it's such a close-knit community and how easy to ask for help with material and how even people often give advice even when unwanted Anna's got a strange hobby; well, I think it's strange, wearing vintage swimwear, so we had to natter about that. Finally then we talk about sex, because why not.
