Ranae von Meding, CEO of Equality for Children, shares her remarkable journey advocating for LGBTQ+ family rights in Ireland, rooted in her own experiences growing up in a religious household and facing personal health challenges. Her passionate fight for equality and legal recognition for LGBTQ+ families comes alive in our conversation, offering profound insights into the complexities of parenting within a same-sex relationship. Discover how Ranae's personal encounters with outdated laws and societal norms have shaped her mission, and learn about the progress and setbacks in achieving broader legal protections for LGBTQ+ families. We unravel the intricacies of reciprocal IVF, a fertility method that brought hope yet highlighted significant legal challenges for same-sex couples in Ireland. Ranae opens up about the emotional rollercoaster of navigating these obstacles and sheds light on the substantial changes in the legal landscape over recent years. From the Children and Family Relationships Act of 2015 to the ongoing hurdles and triumphs, this episode offers a candid portrayal of what it takes to achieve equal parental rights in a society still catching up with the needs of its diverse families. Additionally, we dive into the dual nature of advocacy work, exploring both the power and pitfalls of social media as a platform for change. Ranae reveals the emotional and psychological toll of fighting for human rights, both in the realm of LGBTQ+ issues and broader global concerns, such as advocating for Palestinians. Through her story, we envision an ideal Ireland—a place where all families, regardless of background or conception method, are recognized and protected. Whether you're navigating similar challenges or supporting the cause, this episode paints a vivid picture of resilience and hope in the face of adversity.

This is a story about four friends who grew up together in rural northern New Jersey. The four are close enough to be brothers- chosen family- whose loyalty and love for one another becomes a powerful force in their lives growing up. But when the boys witness a tragic accident befall a local police officer, they are severely impacted, especially upon learning the full extent of the injury. As the boys witness the impact of the tragedy on their friend's wife and family, they create a pact: if any one of the boys should ever become a mental or physical burden to their friends or family, the remaining friends need to end their life. Decades later, once the boys grow up to be men, they are devastated to learn that due to a horrible accident, one of them meets the condition they had described in the pact. The remaining friends connect with one another and set off on a journey to get to their soul brother to fulfill their fateful obligation. A compelling, frequently funny story about reconnection, friendship, and love that asks the question....?? can the boys fulfill the pact and murder their friend this many years later and with so much to lose? ??

Our guest this week on What A Woman Podcast is Ranae Von Meding, a Dublin based writer, speaker and co-founder and CEO of Equality For Children, a not-for-profit organisation fighting for the rights of children born to LGBTQ+ families in Ireland. Ranae also has three children with her wife Audrey and has been campaigning for several years for her wife to be recognised as a legal parent to all of their children because of current laws in Ireland discriminating against LGBTQ+ families. We talked about: - her upbringing in an ultra-orthodox, religious household - when Ranae discovered she was queer in her early twenties - how she had to cut contact with her mother for a period after she came out as queer and how that relationship healed - going through reciprocal IVF with her wife Audrey to have their three children - the devastation of realising her wife Audrey would be a legal stranger to their children because of the laws in Ireland - how Ranae has campaigned for nine years to change legislation and is still in the position where her daughters now have two legal parents but her youngest son does not - how Ranae has equipped her children to understand how they were born to two mums and how she would feel if they want to find their donor - why it's crucial to have better representation of LGBTQ+ families in education/schools and media To follow Ranae and support this important campaign go to: www.equalityforchildren.ie @ranaevonmeding
“I did not grow up in a farming family. I grew up in a small town in the Midwest…there's no one in my family that has ever farmed. I'm pretty sure most of my siblings think I'm crazy.” Erin and Charles Meding purchased their 27 acre slice of heaven in 2008 and raised their now grown children in the Sunapee Region of NH. They transformed a run down little ranch (900 square feet) into their current farmhouse, built a 3 story barn and established too many gardens to count. Bloß keinen Stillstand in Hannovers Ratspolitik!

On Tipp FM's Evening News The 5.45 : This morning local TD Jackie Cahill welcomed the news about the publicly funded IVF programme, as did many of his other colleagues in Fianna Fáil following the announcement made by Minister Stephen Donnelly. while he stated that this creates equality and allows people avail of IVF without the money concrns assocaited. However, what this fails to do is acknowledge all of those who are excluded and there is a vast list it would appear with one of the most startling figures that any gay couple will not make the criteria. I have been speaking to the CEO of Equality for Children, a not for profit which fights for equality for LGBTQ+ families in Ireland, Ranae von Meding and started by asking about her reason for involvement in this line of advocacy

Community is another important foundation that Entheos is built upon. Ranae has a religious background as part of her upbringing. She stepped away from the religious background as some of her values did not align with the church she was a member of. Binnenstedelijk bouwen. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Disasters are not natural, far from it! The impact of a crisis is shaped by a wide range of societal factors and disasters replicate and amplify the inequalities that exist in society so that it is the marginalized communities tare hit the hardest. The Covid pandemic has once again taught us that lesson. Yet, we continue to refer to sudden onset crisis as “natural disasters” and that is not just a question of semantics, it is an indication of how we tell the wrong story of crisis and very often therefore also seek the wrong solutions. This weeks guests on Trumanitarian are Ksenia Chmutina and Jason von Meding. They are academics and co-hosts of the podcast “Deconstructing Disasters.” Ksenia and bring an important perspective to us as practitioners, and because I wanted to explore what we can use each other for.

In a moment where our nation is once again poised to make one leap forward and take two steps back in equality and human rights legislation, we had a very special conversation with a lady whose very DNA is at the core of the issue of children's and parents' rights. Ranae Von Meding's own journey with fertility clinics and the arcane legislation and policies that surround parenthood for LGBT+ couples have led her to this position as an advocate for the rights and equality of all children. Having had to travel out of the country to conceive a child with her partner via reciprocal IVF, Ranae found herself in the position that many families face - part of a parenting couple, with a child that has only 1 official and legal parent. Many families across all spectrums face a similar journey with surrogacy, with the mother in these cases not recognised legally as a parent of their own child. Witness the recent coverage of the Assisted Human Reproduction Bill, in which mothers such as host of The Good Glow, Georgie Crawford will see their rights put to the back of the queue and buried for who knows how many more years....
In the final episode of Disordered the Podcast, Ranae takes some time to reflect on the series, the conversations and learnings that have been had, and to raise some interesting questions and observations from being on this journey. We wish to continue raising awareness around this topic, however, we would like to put the focus on what can be done in order to make a change. We would love to hear from you and get your feedback on this series of Disordered the Podcast to help move forward in a helpful, positive and beneficial way. Trigger warning : Religion, IVF. I speak to writer, podcaster, activist and mother, Ranae von Meding this week.Ranae lives in Dublin city centre with her wife Audrey and their two daughters, Ava who is 4, and Arya who is 2. She spoke about so much during our chat…from growing up in an extremely religious household, the importance of having boundaries, her struggles with an eating disorder, how she met and fell in love with Audrey and their beautiful but challenging journey to Motherhood. She's also the CEO of non-profit organisation ‘Equality for Children' and I hope when you listen to this conversation that you'll feel as strongly as I do, and want to support their efforts by signing the petition in the link below, as it would be wonderful to get it to 20,000 signatures. Thank you!https://my.uplift.ie/petitions/equality-for-children-nowRanae also has her own podcast called ‘Disordered' which explores our relationship with food and our bodies and it's really worth checking out.And if you enjoyed this chat please show your support by leaving a rating or a little comment on Apple, and by clicking follow on Spotify. Disordered The Podcast is a podcast about our relationship with food, hosted by Ranae Von Meding and produced by Fearghal Curtis and Tall Tales Podcasts. Ranae is a writer, activist and mother living in Dublin with her wife and two young daughters. At the age of 16 she developed an eating disorder and has been living with it for almost two decades. Ranae speaks to people who have had first hand experience with eating disorders and disordered eating in a series of open conversations. From these open conversations, Ranae delves deeper to unpick the complexities of disordered eating. In this episode, Ranae gives us an insight to her struggles with an eating disorder and why she is opening the conversation about our relationship with food through this podcast.
A few days ago I got an email from Ranae and it went a little something like this..."Hi KeithMy name is Ranae and I'm a writer and same-sex parenting and lifestyle blogger from Dublin, Ireland. Myself and my wife Audrey have two daughters. Ava is 4 and her sister Arya is 2. I'm also an activist and the CEO of 'Equality for Children' a campaign for equality for children of LGBT+ parents in Ireland.I'm not sure how much you are aware of when it comes to rights for gay families here in Ireland so I'll give a quick overview. As it stands, I am considered a single parent to our daughters. My wife, who is their biological mom, is considered a legal stranger to our kids because she did not physically give birth to them, I did. Our kids, along with countless others in Ireland, are denied the right to a legal connection with both of their parents, simply due to their parents being LGBTQ+. Most people are horrified when they hear this, and often do not realise how far behind the times Ireland is when it comes to equality for LGBTQ+ families"So I asked if she was a good talker and would she come on as a guest and she said yes and she did!EnjoyEmail the show at keithwalshpod@gmail.comThansksSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-keith-walsh-podcast. Like many of us, Trevor started running a little later in life and never looked back. In the relatively short time he's been running Ultramarathons (since 2016), he's run SEVENTY ultras, including two 200 milers and twenty 100 milers. Maybe it's because he uses races as training? Well, he's far from done! This year he's planning on increasing his distance with a 600K and 250 miler! Show Notes: http://www.theriot.run/trevor

On this week's episode activist Ranae Von Meding joins our host Niamh Maher to talk about the Equality For Children campaign. The campaign is seeking equal legal rights for many LGBTQ+ parents to their children. Currently, only one parent of a donor-assisted child born to LGBTQ+ couples can put their name on the birth certificate. Ranae tells Niamh about what this means for many families across this country and why they're fighting against discrimination and mis-information.

No matter the journey you take into motherhood, every mum deserves a community of support and a tribe that has our back.In this episode of everymum the podcast, Ranae Von Meding shares her experience of using Reciprocal IVF with her wife Audrey to bring their two daughters into the world and how she discovered that as married same sex parents in Ireland, who used this form of IVF, that they do not both have equal legal rights to their daughters.Reciprocal IVF or, ‘Shared Motherhood' is a really special form of IVF treatment where one mum supplies the egg and the other carries and births the baby. But in Ireland, this means that only the mum who birthed the baby has legal parental rights – while the mum who gave her egg and her genetic DNA does not.Ireland has taken huge steps in the last few years towards marriage and same sex equality and as we mark 2 years since the Marriage Referendum we want to shine a spotlight on a campaign aimed to achieve equal rights for all parents in Ireland – regardless of sex, sexuality or choice of fertility treatment.
