--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/elgordocircuito/message

Over the last 18-months we’ve gotten new iPads Pro, new iPhones Pro, and new Apple Watches with always-on displays. By any metric, this is Apple’s best lineup of product ever. But, as slam dunk as some of these products are — they’re still not all the products. Even now, at the end of the decade, there are still some pretty big gaps across the iPhone, iPad, iPod — yeah, I said it — HomePod, Apple Watch, and Apple TV lineups. So, since I covered the missing Macs in one of last week’s videos, I’m going to strap on my destiny prognostication engine, Escaflowne style, and cover all the missing iOS and iOS-offshoot devices in this video. When Steve Jobs first unveiled the iPad, you only had one 9.7-inch model to choose from. Over the years, though, Apple expanded the lineup to include the ultra-portable 7.9-inch iPad mini and the ultra-productive 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Now, the 9.7 is finally, truly gone, and in its place we have five different sizes stretched across five different price points — Entry-level 10.2-inch iPad 7, mid-range 7.9-inch iPad mini 5 and 10.5-inch iPad Air 3, and high-end 11.-inch and 12.9-inch iPads Pro. And, of course, all the color, storage, and cellular options for each. And… it can seem like a lot. I get it. I totally get it. But it doesn’t have to be. Keep watching and we’ll quickly, simply hone things down to the perfect first-time or upgrade iPad for you. Apple doesn’t always host October events. But, when Apple wants to show off new designs and highlight new technology — when it wants to go into the holidays with an extra bang — it’s with an October event. So, assuming there is an October Event, and not just a PR drop or bevy of briefings, what could we see? If past is prolog, new iPads Pro and bunch of new Macs. Let's take a look! Last week we promised a summary of Ars Technica’s extensive reviews of Android 9 (“Pie”) and iOS 12, cadets, but we ran out of time for it this week due to the flood of reviews and benchmarks on the latest new iPhones — including some hands-on comments from Mike, who snagged an Xs Max immediately and has had some time to try it out. We also examine the Apple Watch Series 4 and the forthcoming iPad Pro models, some neat features of iOS 12, and more. Among other things noted: sweet carrier deals on new iPhones, watchOS 5 upgraders get a new heart-health feature, Apple is dominating both the premium smartphone market as well as the premium smart speaker market, some discoveries in the iOS 12.1 beta code that reveal iPad plans and features, a quick review of the quick new Safari for Mac, and the Music Modernization Act. There’s also some bad news, of course, such as the Newegg breach, Evernote’s layoffs, Qualcomm’s loss, Chinese tariffs, and a fresh new batch of “the iPhone Xs is dooooomed” from pundits (who said the same thing about the iPhone X — some people never learn). We also have our usual Engineering Report featuring Optane SSDs, Master & Dynamic, and Tesla, and finish off with yet another creepy aspect of your Alexa devices. We’ve set aside time next week for that Android 9 and iOS 12 summary, cadets, so the pop quiz has been postponed -- but you'd better take a double ration of your study pills for next time!

The owner of the Galaxy Note 7 said he got the new phone on September 21st at an AT&T store. Before the flight left the gate, the owner says he powered it down and put it in his pocket when it started smoking. Thick grey-green smoke poured out of the device after the owner dropped it on the floor. In a matter of moments it had burned through the plane’s carpet. “All passengers and crew exited the plane via the main cabin door and no injuries were reported,” With new hardware trio, Google makes major play for your home http://www.cultofmac.com/447847/new-hardware-trio-google-makes-major-play-home/ During an event in San Francisco today, Google unveiled a new Wi-Fi router, an improved Chromecast with 4K support, and a new Google Home device that’s a lot like Amazon’s Echo smart speaker, only it’s powered by Google Assistant. Google Home allows owners to use voice commands to do stuff like play music on YouTube, Google Play Music or Spotify. You can also ask Google Home to play podcasts or news feeds. AirPods point to Apple’s domination of ‘ambient paradigm’ http://www.cultofmac.com/448065/airpods-point-apples-domination-ambient-paradigm/ Three new iPads Pro are coming early next year http://www.cultofmac.com/447676/apple-said-planning-trio-new-ipad-pros-early-2017/ Apple is set to debut a trifecta of new iPad Pro models in Q1 2017, according to a new report Mac Okatara suggests that the 12.9-inch and 7.9-inch iPad Pros will get the same 12MP iSight camera and True Tone technology that the 9.7-inch iPad Pro currently has. All three models will also supposedly receive quad microphones and, in something of a pleasant surprise, 3.5mm headphone jacks. If Apple’s yearly product cycle wasn’t enough of a hint that a new iPad was on the way, Apple’s iPad Pro tablets both received discounts of up to $100 after Apple’s iPhone 7 media event last month. Away Versus Home? A listener named Alan wrote, “When using the word versus, does it make a difference as to what is placed before and what is placed after? For example: Roe versus Wade or Red Sox versus Yankees. In other words, by rule is one the challenger, and the other the challenged?” How to Make Product Names Plural: Two Silicon Valley guys were talking on Twitter about whether they should say they have two iPad Pros or two iPads Pro. Then Schiller jumped in to say: “One need never pluralize Apple product names. Ex: Mr. Evans used two iPad Pro devices.” People on Twitter generally seemed to think this seemed ridiculous and Business Insider, Mac Rumors, and others turned it into a story. Woohoo, Twitter spat!
