In 1989, in the bustling seaport of San Pedro, California, Jackie Hernandez began to experience strange phenomena in her newly rented bungalow. Lights would turn on and off. Objects would move. A heavy breathing could be heard rattling in the attic above her laundry room. After a neighbor experienced the activity herself, she encouraged Jackie to reach out to a team of Ghost Hunters she had recently seen on TV. What would follow was a year-plus long investigation that included everything from full-figured apparitions, to dripping ectoplasm. Jake and Brad provide a comprehensive look at either the best evidence of a poltergeist ever captured on video, or perhaps the first ‘found footage' horror movie ever made. In today's Cassandra Podcast, we spoke with Jackie Hernandez and Oswald Mendez, co-founders of New Majority Ready about some of the biggest headlines and implications that are coming out of the 2020 US Census. The huge increase in the number of people that are multiracial and the fact that over 90% of the new generation of Hispanics is US-born, are two areas that we explore. As it is National Hispanic Heritage Month, we also discussed the concepts of heritage and identity, and what they mean for Gen Zs today. Lastly, Jackie and Oswald shared some examples of brands (including Vault by Vans x Frida Kahlo, Ulta, Fenty Beauty & Crocs) that are leading in this space. New Majority Ready's mission is to help companies realize the impact America's current Cultural Transformation has on their business and create a path that will lead to new sources of growth through the lens of the New Majority, through designing audience strategies that drive growth, developing content and storytelling for marketers to deliver brand messaging and helping evolve companies' culture and go-to-market strategies. More info about New Majority Ready is available here. And see more of their perspectives on the 2020 Census here. On a late summer evening in 1971, Manny Sanguillen heard his Pittsburgh Pirates teammate Dave Cash mention that something unusual was happening inside Three Rivers Stadium. No, not unusual. Unprecedented.Sanguillen, the ebullient catcher and a native of Panama, stood at home plate and scanned the field. All of the Pirates on the artificial turf had something in common. Something other than their double-knit white uniforms with black and gold trim. We have nine brown people on the field,” Sanguillen said to himself, his amazement and delight still evident as he tells the story.Sanguillen found his close friend Roberto Clemente, the Pirates' right fielder from Puerto Rico, and pointed out the makeup of the lineup to take on the Philadelphia Phillies. “We have to win this game,” Clemente said earnestly. “Can you imagine what they'll say if we don't win with all of us on the field? Pittsburgh's lineup 50 years ago Wednesday included two future Hall of Fame players, Clemente and left fielder Willie Stargell, and four other players who were current or future All-Stars: Sanguillen, first baseman Al Oliver, third baseman Cash and a Southern California native and a Gardena High School grad, pitcher Dock Ellis.Rounding out the starters were shortstop Jackie Hernandez, second baseman Rennie Stennett and center fielder Gene Clines.. The writers ran in after the game and said to Danny, 'Do you know what you did? You started an all-Black lineup. Danny said, 'I didn't know that. I thought I was putting the best nine Pirates out on the field tonight.' “When it comes to making out the lineup, I'm colorblind and my athletes know it.”

For two years, Jackie Hernandez was tormented by a variety of anomalous activity that persisted after two moves, and attached itself to those she knew. Also known as the San Pedro Haunting, her case is remarkable for the sheer number of anomalous events, but it's also an interesting case study in the blurred lines between hauntings and poltergeists. Jackie Hernandez was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. She now lives and works in the Hudson County Area of New Jersey. She received her Bachelor of Arts in 2013 and is currently involved in teaching art classes and being an art educator. Her work has been exhibited throughout New Jersey, New York City and Philadelphia, Pa. She believes art is a never-ending learning process. Artists collect experience through their life in comprehending their relationship with their chosen medium. As an artist, She believes intricateness is the most essential fragment in a creation. "As the details compute in my mind I trust my hands to physically make the establishments of those details. The thoughts of the details of my artwork don't occur overnight, it occurs within being part of the experience of the self". As a first-generation Salvadoran American, she has always questioned the diaspora of her Salvadoran culture and being a Latina. Her inspiration in her artwork leads from this, which she includes Latinx inspired symbolism into her sculptures and paintings. She believes what drove her into becoming an artist was learning about her family background. Her grandfather was a guitarist and a photographer and her grand uncle was an artist in El Salvador. She began drawing at the age of eight. "Since I was a child, my mind has always been filled with endless imagination. I am a painter, sculptor, and aspiring art educator. I always believe that art is a never-ending journey of experience and learning." Barry Conrad: film-maker and ghost-hunter extraordinaire. Few men have ventured where he has ventured, and even fewer have come back with any supporting evidence. Mainly known for the TV shows, “California's Most Haunted (2003)”, “Monsters of the UFO (2005),” and, “Valentino's Ghost (2012),” Barry commenced his broadcast career with Nick Clooney (George Clooney's father) in Ohio back in the Seventies. His credits span countless titles as cameraman, director-of-photography, and producer, including several feature documentaries under the banner of his own BARCON VIDEO PRODUCTIONS. What we really came to sink our teeth into, however, is the notorious San Pedro Haunting: surely one of his most well-known paranormal cases to date, Barry has also written a book about said haunting, under the title of, “An Unknown Encounter: A True Account Of The San Pedro Haunting.” This popular case focuses on the haunting of Jackie Hernandez, which began during the Summer of 1989, in a peaceful neighbourhood of San Pedro, California. We also talk to Barry about various aspects of paranormal film-making (e.g. the difficulties concerning recording equipment), as well as other paranormal cases he has featured in his productions.
