Send us a textIn this soul-shaking, unapologetic episode of the Harvest Sarasota Podcast, Pastor Stan Mitchell delivers a raw and redemptive message that strips away the polite pretenses of church tradition and dives deep into the radical inclusivity of the Gospel. With the storytelling brilliance of a weathered preacher and the urgency of a prophet, Mitchell walks us through John 9—not as a theological text, but as a living, breathing cry for justice, belonging, and visibility.Mitchell doesn't merely preach; he exposes the wounds of religion, the pain of families divided by doctrine, and the betrayal felt by those cast out by the very institutions that claimed to love them. He elevates the story of the blind man healed by Jesus as a holy mirror, reflecting the experience of countless LGBTQ+ individuals who have been seen as problems instead of people. The message is piercing: Jesus saw a person. His followers saw a theological issue. This episode is not just for the deconstructed or the disenfranchised. It's for every parent caught between church and child. Every pastor afraid to step into the full light of truth. Every listener longing to know if there's still a place called home where healing isn't questioned and identity isn't up for debate. If you've ever been told your story doesn't fit inside the church—this episode will tell you otherwise. This is not just a conversation. It's a commissioning. A wake-up call. A reintroduction to a Jesus who still turns around and comes looking for the ones left behind.**"You're not tolerated here," Mitchell declares. "You're celebrated." Send us a textForget the comforting traditions—this Easter, Harvest Sarasota boldly asked, "Are we denying the resurrection with our lives?" In this provocative sermon, we unpack the revolutionary reality of Jesus' resurrection beyond mere belief, challenging our complicity with injustice, inequality, and oppression. Pastor Dan Minor urges us to confront uncomfortable truths: when we ignore racism, homophobia, sexism, poverty, and every form of exclusion, we're effectively denying the transformative power of resurrection itself.Drawing inspiration from Mary Magdalene—the overlooked woman whose radical solidarity defied societal norms—we're called to revolutionary living, fierce advocacy, and persistent compassion. It's not enough to celebrate a historical event; it's time to embody it by standing boldly with the marginalized and silenced.Join us as we reject hollow proclamations and affirm a faith that demands action. This week's episode examines the common arguments that are used in favor of affirming Biblical support for LGBTQ "Christians". There are five common lines of argumentation which have been used to alter the Church's historical position regarding sex and sexuality. I explain each tactic and why it is not a valid argument.  The main problem with accepting an LGBTQ "Christian" is that sin has been redefined. It's impossible to become a true Christian without repentance; therefore, we must accept God's definition of sin and submit to Jesus's call to repent. If we do, then we can be saved from any sin - no matter how great or small!

Now, he's sharing his tried and tested methods for overcoming conflicts by focusing on shared interests and storytelling.Even when parents and teens sit on what feel like opposite sides of the ideological spectrum, we likely have more in common than we realize. By approaching rifts strategically instead of confrontationally, we can narrow divides and start effecting real change. The Ego Protection InstinctWhen tensions run high, our first instinct is often to double down on our position. After all, no one wants to look like the “bad guy” or feel embarrassed when realizing they're wrong. This ego protection instinct kicks in, causing both parties to dig their heels in further in order to save face.Justin explains that the key to working through this instinct is to approach the conversation calmly and strategically. Making teens defensive will only cause them to reject our perspective entirely. By listening first instead of accusing, we make space for their viewpoint while getting them to lower their guard. This thoughtful approach makes them more receptive later on when we share our own story.Telling Our StoryWhen it comes time to share our side, Justin explains that facts and figures often fall flat. What really helps the other person relate to our position is hearing the story behind why this issue matters so much to us.By explaining our personal experiences, worries, disappointments and more, the other person gains empathy and understanding as to why we ended up with these strong beliefs. Storytelling helps them step into our shoes, seeing our views as reasonable instead of attacking our character. It also allows both parties to recognize each other's stories as valid without having to denounce the other.Plotting a Way ForwardWithout a plan for how the conversation should end, we risk leaving the other person hurt or resentful. Justin encourages parents to think critically about what they actually want to gain before diving into tense talks. Do we want to “win” by making the teen feel stupid? Or do we want to gain a better understanding between us?By visualizing a story in which the teen's past actions were reasonable and our new way forward makes sense, we provide a path that allows them to save face while still growing. With thoughtful compromises focused on shared interests rather than contradictory positions, we stand a better chance of inching closer together. No matter how far apart parents and teens may feel at times, Justin proves even groups with the most divergent views can find common ground through strategic, thoughtful dialogue. By leading with empathy and storytelling, we model good communication while bridging ideological divides one conversation at a time.Follow us on Social Media! LGBTQ Christians. This is a huge topic within the Christian faith. Traditionally, churches have done a very poor job at understanding how to navigate this topic. Last week we discussed "side b" Christians, who do not deny their LGBTQ identity, but still hold the traditional Christian sexual ethic (sex between a man and woman in marriage). This week, we dive into "side a," which fully embraces same-sex attraction and affirms LGBTQ romantic relationships. This topic is highly sensitive and has left a lot of separation in the church. I'm joined with Michael Robison, a prominent, evangelical, mega-church pastor, who after 20 years of marriage, came out to his wife. They peacefully divorced and Michael is now re-married to a man. LGBTQ Christians. This is a huge topic within the Christian faith. Traditionally, churches have done a very poor job at understanding how to navigate this topic. In this episode, it is my desire to bring greater understanding and awareness around this topic. If you're someone who is queer, on any level, and you've never felt comfortable or welcomed to be honest about your sexuality, I pray this conversation brings hope and peace to your soul. And for the listeners that are straight and don't understand this world, my hope is that you will approach this topic with respect and open-mindedness, so that you can become a safe person for those in your life who are working through this part of their life. David Waldman and Greg Dworkin present KITM, now, at least today, 100% New York Times free.  WNBA star Brittney Griner has been freed from Russia in a 1-for-1 prisoner swap. Brittney is safe, on a plane, and on her way home. Biden isn't Trump, therefore Brittney Griner isn't Otto Warmbier. People pore over the numbers while the GQP counts their regrets following Raphael Warnock's Senate win. One reason for Warnock's win might have been the perceived lower quality of his opponent… Also, thanks to our kids, whom we've begged for years to please begin their homework earlier than the deadline day, coming through at the last, last minute. Values-based politics are winning politics for Democrats. Glenn Youngkin inches closer to pulling Virginia from their regional climate program. The Trump Supreme Court is using the Founding Fathers as human shields in Moore v. Harper, but are having a tougher time justifying anti-LGBTQ “messages” in 303 Creative v. Elenis. Meanwhile, the Respect for Marriage Act was actually legislated by legislators.  A restaurant in Richmond, Virginia, decided to protect its staff from gangs of anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ Christian hooligans. A search team found a couple more top-secret documents in a Trump storage bin with his old swords. Donald Trump probably has a classified document stuck to the heel of his shoe at this very moment. Donald should check to see if Vlad has a guest room down at his new place in Argentina. Save some room for Paul Gosar. The Reichsbürger, or “Lost Cause” movement in Germany is lead by would-be Kaiser, Heinrich XIII Prince of Reuss. Who is he? More importantly, which is he?
