Wall Street ended the rollercoaster week of last week in the green on Friday after possibly the most volatile week in NYSE history as investors responded live to Trumps tariff updates as they were announced. The Dow Jones rose 1.56%, the S&P500 rose 1.81% and the Nasdaq ended the last trading session of the week up 2.06%. The rise in investor optimism on Friday was due to the White House remaining optimistic a deal on tariffs would be done with China. Let's hope for some more clarity and calm on global markets this week.In Europe on Friday markets in the region closed mostly lower to round off a choppy week for stocks in the Eurozone. The STOXX 600 fell 0.1%, Germany's DAX fell 0.9%, the French CAC dropped 0.3%, and, in the UK, the FTSE100 ended the day up 0.64%.Across the Asia region on Friday markets closed mixed as investors assessed escalating trade wars with the US. Japan's Nikkei lost almost 3%, South Korea's Kospi index fell 0.5%, but Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.13% and China's CSI index ended the day up 0.41%.Locally on Friday the ASX200 fell 0.82% with every sector aside from consumer discretionary stocks ending the day in the red, with healthcare taking the biggest hit amid Trump's latest tariff announcement on producers in the sector. For the week, the ASX200 lost just 0.28% despite the extreme highs and lows of the trading week. What to watch today:Gold miners rallied last week as the price of the precious commodity topped US$3200/ounce for the first time later in the week.On the commodities front this morning oil is trading 2.38% higher at US$61.50/barrel, gold is up 1.5% at US$3236.55/ounce and iron ore is up just 0.06% at US$99.95/tonne.The Aussie dollar has slightly improved against most currencies to buy 62.86 US cents, 90.64 Japanese Yen, 49.03 British Pence and 1 New Zealand dollar and 8 cents.Ahead of Monday's trading session here in Australia the SPI futures are anticipating the ASX will open the day up 0.23%.This week will be interesting on the tariffs front as we ended last week with Trump raising total tariffs on China to 145% but backtracked on electronics and certain imports that support large caps like Apple.Trading Ideas:Bell Potter has downgraded the rating on Lynas Rare Earths (ASX:LYC) from a hold to a sell as the analyst believes valuation has been overextended and the current share price prices in optimistic expectations. The analyst still believes Lynas is a high-quality business with viable growth options and a strong management team.Trading Central has identified a bullish signal on Waypoint REIT (ASX:WPR) following the formation of a pattern over a period of 90-days which is roughly the same amount of time the share price will rise from the close of $2.50 to the range of $2.65 to $2.69 according to standard principles of technical analysis.
Interview with Paul Atherley, Chairman of Pensana PLCOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/pensana-pre-confident-funding-is-imminent-2582Recording date: 28th March 2025Pensana PLC, chaired by Paul Atherley, has secured financing to begin construction on one of the world's largest undeveloped rare earth projects in Angola. The project will process 20,000 tons initially, eventually scaling to 40,000 tons, placing it in the same league as industry leaders Lynas and MP Materials. The financing package comes from three key institutions: Angola's sovereign wealth fund (FSDA), Absa Bank from South Africa, and the African Finance Corporation. The structure consists of approximately 60% debt and 40% equity spread across these institutions. The equity component is expected to be drawn down within weeks, while the debt documentation will take 6-9 months to finalize. What distinguishes Pensana's approach is its focus on creating a non-Chinese rare earth supply chain. Rather than simply mining and exporting raw materials to China, the company plans to produce a mixed rare earth carbonate (MRE), a midstream product that can be processed further outside China. The company is in discussions with potential partners who have separation capacity outside China, which Atherley describes as "a very important step" in creating an independent global supply chain. The Longonjo project contains over 100,000 tons of valuable neodymium and praseodymium in its top 30 meters, with an exceptionally low strip ratio of 0.2:1, indicating efficient mining potential. Technical validation has been completed through extensive testing at laboratories in Western Australia, confirming the quality of their product.Construction is now beginning, with first production targeted for the end of 2026, followed by a six-month ramp-up period to reach full production in 2027. The financing will dilute Pensana's ownership from 84% to 70% initially, with potential further dilution to 52% if certain mezzanine financing is not refinanced.Atherley sees significant growth potential as the company is "building a project at the bottom of the rare earth price cycle," contrasting their current $100 million market cap with Lynas at $4 billion. He highlights future demand drivers including electric vehicles, wind turbines, and emerging technologies like humanoid robotics. As Atherley notes, "It's an electric future based on electromagnetics and we will be a producer going into that rising thematic."View Pensana's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/pensana-plcSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Today's cultural conversations are increasingly complex and confusing. Whether we're sat round the kitchen table, chatting in the workplace, or debating laws in parliament, the stories that shape who we are and how we are to live are often polarised and contradictory. This seminar will help you understand what these stories are, where they're coming from and how we can offer an alternative good, true and beautiful story of what it means to be human today.

It was looking like a slow news day until Silver Lake Resources (SLR.asx) came up with another media release. It reads as if they paid close attention to Friday's Money of Mine discussion (link below), as they refute St Barbara's (SBM.asx) reasoning for why the transaction didn't constitute a better deal for its shareholders. We have come so far in the industry. When we look back at how things were done, we can find glaring contrasts with the way we are now. Whereas we could not imagine marketing without meeting face-to-face, the pace of technological advancement showed us it's possible. And it's taking the industry to new heights. Sharing their perspectives from before to now, John Solleder interview Karen Ford and Elaine Lynas. Having started in the network marketing industry way back in the 1990s, they each share the changes they have seen up to now and how they have navigated through them. They also talk about why we should join an MLM company today and share their advice on working with the new generation. The new year has just started, but already, the network marketing industry is further building itself to help people change their lives. Join this conversation and discover the opportunities to live a life of freedom!
Welcome to the SYNC Your Life podcast episode #99! On this podcast, we will be diving into all things women's hormones to help you learn how to live in alignment with your female physiology. Too many women are living with their check engine lights flashing. You know you feel "off" but no matter what you do, you can't seem to have the energy, or lose the weight, or feel your best. This podcast exists to shed light on the important topic of healthy hormones and cycle syncing, to help you gain maximum energy in your life. In today's episode, I'm interviewing Brandy Whitaker and Janna Lynas, two foundational leaders behind the Conner Prairie Museum's early childhood education program. Both of these women have played a vital role in both my life and the life of my oldest daughter, who attended preschool there for three years. In that three years, these two women and the philosopy behind the program: an entirely outdoor, nature-based, risk-encouraged, play-is-enough schema, reshaped my views on what education should be and how I can be a better parent to my children. Because I know many of my podcast listeners are mothers, I just HAD to bring this to the show. I think you'll be enlightened, inspired, and encouraged. Turns out, children teach us more than we teach them. Books referenced on the show, and that come recommended by these ladies: Vitamin N Balanced and Barefoot My previous podcast on The Benefits of Earthing and Vitamin N can be found here. If you'd like to speak to these women directly, please send me an email at jenny@jennyswisher.com and I can put you in contact. If you feel like something is "off" with your hormones, check out the FREE hormone imbalance quiz at sync.jennyswisher.com. To learn more about the SYNC Digital Course, check out jennyswisher.com. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: A review of Our Final Warning: Six Degrees of Climate Emergency by Mark Lynas, published by John G. Halstead on April 15, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Reviewed work: Mark Lynas, Our Final Warning: Six Degrees of Climate Emergency, HarperCollins Publishers (2020). In the new edition of his book Our Final Warning: Six Degrees of Climate Emergency, Mark Lynas argues climate change will be truly catastrophic. He claims that, at 4°C above pre-industrial levels, advanced industrial civilisation would be tottering (p. 168). At 5°C, humanity would cling on in small refuges surrounded by deserts, forests in flame and rising seas (p. 222). At 6°C, we face possible human extinction (p. 262ff). I am a fan of Lynas' other work on nuclear power and GM food. I have invited him to speak at several events. I recommended him as a guest for the 80,000 Hours podcast and introduced him to the team there. Like Lynas, I also think climate change is an important problem: I helped to set up the Founders Pledge Climate Change Fund, which has moved millions of dollars to climate change charities. However, in my opinion, Six Degrees is very disappointing. Throughout, Lynas misinterprets evidence and ignores nuance. The consistent effect that this has is to bias his conclusions in a pessimistic direction. I shared this post with Mark Lynas before publishing. Thanks to Max Daniel and Abie Rohrig for comments. 1. Misinterpreted evidence Throughout Six Degrees, Lynas cites up-to-date peer reviewed science to support its claims. However, Lynas often misinterprets studies that are key to his conclusions, sometimes dramatically so. Moreover, he almost always fails to consider the extent to which people in the future might be able to adapt to climate change using new technology or increased wealth. I will discuss three examples. The first two are egregious, but are representative of how Lynas uses evidence in Six Degrees. The US Dust Bowl and crop yields Lynas provides this overview of Glotter and Elliot (2016): “When droughts are added into the picture, the future for food production looks even scarier. The authors of one recent paper analysed the US Dust Bowl of the 1930s and then factored in the temperature increases expected later this century from global warming. While the worst Dust Bowl years led to crop losses of up to a third between 1933 and 1939, add in four degrees of warming and the losses soar to 80% or more. Just the warming effect on its own would mean that a typical year would see yields equivalent to the terrible Dust Bowl year of 1936. The researchers warn in the paper's introduction that ‘damages at these extremes are highly sensitive to temperature, worsening by ~25% with each degree centigrade of warming.' For four-degree temperature rises, losses could therefore be reaching 100%, obliterating the entire harvest. These conclusions hold not just for maize in the central Dust Bowl area, but for wheat, soy and other crops across the Great Plains and Midwestern states. Four degrees of global warming, in other words, turns virtually the entire area that produces crops in the US into a Dust Bowl state.” [My emphasis] (p. 192) This misunderstands the Glotter and Elliott (2016) study in several important ways. Glotter and Elliott (2016) explore what the effects of warming would be on the assumption that dust bowl conditions - similar to the extreme droughts experienced in the US in the 1930s - reemerge. This study does not say that warming would cause dust bowl conditions to reemerge. Furthermore, it is simply not true to say that the study shows that the entire US harvest of maize, soy and wheat would be obliterated at 4°C. The actual findings of the study are shown below: The relevant parts of this Figure are the red bars and red dots. They show the yield loss assuming: 1930s D...
This week special guest Peter Lynas unpacks what your purpose and our purpose is.
Nearly a decade ago, an influential review of climate-related studies found a 97% consensus about man's impact on climate change. Now a new review, led by Mark Lynas, has found a 99.9% consensus. Lynas says the science is so settled that "it is case closed." Republicans "undermining the case for action" are basing that entirely on politics, not science, he adds. Lynas discusses how "right-wing media" in the United States tends to offer "anti-scientific perspectives on climate change" and needs to start offering more "right-wing solutions." He also discusses how climate change reporting is evolving, and what to expect from COP26, a pivotal UN climate summit. To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy
