Nemesis by Gregg Hurwitz. This is a story in the Orphan X sequence, which I've loved from the very beginning, but this one takes a darker and more personal turn for Evan Smoak, the hero. Because of the nature of his work and the man he was made to be to do that work he's never had friends, but 15 years ago he met a man who became the nearest thing to being a friend – Tommy Stojack – a former gunrunner and Green Beret who now supplies arms and equipment to Evan – but who now betrays him, and friendship rapidly turns to enmity. This is a brilliant thriller. The House of My Mother by Shari Franke. Shari was one of six children in a family which became known on YouTube as 8 Passengers. Her mother Ruby turned her family into performance and filmed and posted everything about their lives, portraying them as being the perfect family when behind the scenes they were anything but. Ruby was a really tough Mum off camera, but when she took up with a relationship coach their abuse of the children escalated, and Ruby and Jodi, the coach, are now serving prison time. This is their story by the eldest daughter. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

New York Times bestselling author Gregg Hurwitz returns with the tenth book in the acclaimed Orphan X series. Nemesis forces the reclusive former assassin, Evan Smoak to face off with the one man he believed he could call a friend. Lines are crossed and Evan is faced with decisions that will change him forever. While this is the tenth in the longstanding series, it show no sign of letting off the gas. In fact, this was my favorite in the series yet. If he survives Nemesis, where will Evan go next? Listen to Gregg Hurwitz explain what make Evan tick and how the obstacles he faces in this story will mark a turning point in the series.

In this episode, the Crew shares a drink with one of their favorite authors, Gregg Hurwitz, as they discuss his latest Orphan X thriller, "LONE WOLF." About Lone Wolf: Once a black book government assassin known as Orphan X, Evan Smoak left the program, went deep underground, and reinvented himself as someone who will go anywhere, and risk everything to help the truly desperate who have nowhere else to turn. Since then, Evan has fought international crime syndicates and drug cartels, faced down the most powerful people in the world and even brought down a President. Struggling with an unexpected personal crisis, Evan goes back to the very basics of his mission - and this time, the truly desperate is a little girl who wants him to find her missing dog. Not his usual mission, and not one Evan embraces with enthusiasm, but this unlikely, tiny job quickly explodes into his biggest mission yet. One that finds him battered between twisted AI technocrat billionaires, a mysterious female assassin who seems a mirror of himself, and personal stakes so gut-wrenching he can scarcely make sense of them. Evan's mission pushes him to his limit - he must find and take down the assassin known only as the Wolf, before she succeeds in completing her mission and killing the people who can identify her - a teenaged daughter of her last target, and Evan himself. Matched skill for skill, instinct for instinct, Evan must outwit an opponent who will literally stop at nothing if he is to survive. What critics are saying: “Crisp character delineation and a propulsive, forward-moving plot should keep new readers engaged. Another crackling caper for the solitary Orphan X.” --Kirkus Reviews "The most fascinating and compelling Orphan X novel to date. Think Jason Bourne on steroids... The Nowhere Man is back! NYT Bestselling Author Gregg Hurwitz joins the Crew to pull the curtain back a little further on the life of Evan Smoak, Orphan X. We talk vodka, the challenges of parenting when you're trying to run a cocaine empire, and opinionated plants. Aragon Urrea is a kingpin of a major drug-dealing operation in South Texas. He's also the patron of the local area--supplying employment in legitimate operations, providing help to the helpless, rough justice to the downtrodden, and a future to a people normally with little hope. He's complicated--a not completely good man, who does bad things for often good reasons. However, for all his money and power, he is helpless when one of the most vicious cartels kidnaps his innocent eighteen year old daughter, spiriting her away into the armored complex that is their headquarters in Mexico. With no other way to rescue his daughter, he turns to The Nowhere Man. Now not only must Evan figure out how to get into the impregnable fortress of a heavily armed, deeply paranoid cartel leader, but he must decide if he should help a very bad man--no matter how just the cause. "Gregg Hurwitz has outdone himself this time. The many followers of Orphan X will get whiplash from the unexpected turns and surprises. It was only a matter of time until his Evan Smoak took on the drug cartels. That the main villain is a fully rounded character is unexpectedly moving. The action strikes like lightning." --Luis Urrea, Pulitzer Prize finalist for The Devil's Highway GREGG HURWITZ is the New York Times #1 internationally bestselling author of 23 thrillers including the ORPHAN X series. I see a lot of questions from beginning copywriters, working pro’s, and business owners that all boil down to this: “What can I do to get good at copywriting and stay good?” Of course, the answer that first comes to mind for me is, “Hire me as your copywriting mentor.” But that’s not always practical for a number of reasons. I can only work with a few people at any time. A lot of people are too early in their skills for mentoring from me. Some people don’t want to make the investment, and some people don’t have enough time for it. All of those things make sense to me. But I want no copywriter left behind. No business owner, either. And most of all, no, I’m not running for president. But I am doing a podcast. So, I put together a carefully selected list of hacks and reps to help you get good and stay good. Four of these groups of activities, you can do by yourself. The fifth one does involve other people, and I’ll offer you a variety of training and coaching options I can personally recommend. 1. Read copy every day. Even better, read it out loud. 2. Storytelling - handwrite a few pages from the opening of a few favorite fiction books. If I did it today myself, it would be Orphan X books by Greg Hurwitz An example from one of my mentoring clients 3. Books you could get a lot out of by just reading once - Tested Advertising methods, by John Caples - How to Write the Perfect Sales Page, by Nathan Fraser - Breakthrough Copywriting, by me, David Garfinkel 4. Books you should read multiple times - Scientific Advertising, by Claude Hopkins - A Technique for Producing Ideas, by James Webb Young - Breakthrough Advertising, by Gene Schwartz (makes more sense when you have a little more experience) 5. Take a course or join a group - John Carlton - Kevin Rogers - Copywriter ClubDownload.
Orphan X : By - Gregg Hurwitz - Novel Review Gregg Hurwitz' Orphan X presents an easily likable and relate-able lead character that is both larger than life and sympathetic."Orphan X" begins with familiar, stock premise of modern thrillers: A highly-skilled assassin, after murdering many international bad guys for the government, discovers that he actually has a conscience and decides to quit the ultra-secret, black-ops program that trained him as a young orphan and devote his unique and deadly talents to the salvation of desperate innocents. Although you have likely read novels or seen movies based on an almost identical premise, it must still intrigue you or you wouldn't be reading this review to decide if you wish to try this one. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/gobookmart-review/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/gobookmart-review/support

But he broke free and reinvented himself as The Nowhere Man, a figure shrouded in mystery, known for helping the truly desperate. If anyone is truly desperate, it's Max Merriweather. Max is at the end of his rope. His cousin has been brutally murdered, leaving Max an envelope that contains nothing but a mysterious key. However, someone really wants that key, badly enough that Max – and anyone he turns to – is in deadly danger. What seems like a simple job for The Nowhere Man turns out to be anything but. Behind every threat he takes out, a deadlier one emerges and Evan Smoak must put himself in greater danger than ever before as he heads once more Into The Fire.
