“Well I'll be greased and fried! What's the circus doing up in these parts?”The Chiodo Brothers and Their Creature Feature LegacyBefore Killer Klowns from Outer Space, the Chiodo Brothers – Charles, Edward, and Stephen – had already made a name for themselves in the special effects world of the 1980s. With credits on films like Critters and sequences in RoboCop, they were well-versed in creating practical effects and creature designs. Killer Klowns from Outer Space represented an opportunity for them to showcase their skills in a feature-length film, with Stephen Chiodo taking on the role of director. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue the One-and-Done series with a conversation about their 1988 film Killer Klowns from Outer Space.Clowning Around with Horror Tropes and Twisted ExpectationsIn our discussion, we marvel at how Killer Klowns from Outer Space gleefully subverts classic clown tropes, turning seemingly innocent gags into sinister and often grotesque moments. From the balloon animal hunting dog to the shadow puppet T-Rex that devours its victims, the film consistently surprises and delights with its inventive use of clown iconography. However, we question whether the horror-comedy balance always lands, with some scenes leaning more heavily into the absurd than the truly frightening.A Trio of Heroes and the Trope of Incompetent Authority FiguresThroughout our conversation, we explore the dynamics between the film's central trio – Mike, Debbie, and Dave – and how their relationships evolve as they face the alien clown threat. We also examine the trope of young heroes pitted against incompetent authority figures, a common theme in 1950s-era B-movies that Killer Klowns from Outer Space both embraces and satirizes.Other topics we cover include:The memorable performances of the supporting cast, particularly Royal Dano as Farmer Gene Green and John Vernon as the skeptical police officerThe film's vibrant color palette and the effectiveness of the practical effectsThe Chiodo Brothers' continued work in the industry, including their involvement in Team America: World Police and Marcel the Shell with Shoes OnWhy Killer Klowns from Outer Space Endures as a Cult ClassicDespite its status as a one-and-done feature for director Stephen Chiodo, Killer Klowns from Outer Space has endured as a beloved cult classic. Its unique blend of horror and comedy, combined with the Chiodo Brothers' imaginative creature designs, has helped it stand the test of time. While it has some soapy acting and feels of its era, we ultimately find Killer Klowns from Outer Space to be a delightful and entertaining entry in the realm of 1980s horror-comedy. We have a great time talking about it, so check it out then tune in. An all new Appreciation Month is upon us here at Cinema Degeneration and this time we are heading out into the Dystopian fueled nightmares of the Apocalypse with 'Wasteland Appreciation Month.' It's a month long celebration of all things Post-Apocalyptic so you can expect marauders, scavengers, mutants and mayhem, cool car chases, fights over water and fuel, and battles of epic proportions. Our first episode is on an all time B-Movie classic starring the late great Rowdy Roddy Piper with 1988's "HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN" from director Donald G. Jackson. Also starring Sandahl Bergman, William Smith, Rory Calhoun, Nicolas Worth and many more! It's a cautionary tale of what happens when 68% of the male population on earth is wiped out and virile men are a rarity. Piper portrays the character of Sam Hell, one of the last virile men on the planet who is tasked with the mission of rescuing a group of fertile women from a gang of humanoid frogs! If that sounds crazy to you, then you've got to see it to believe it. Our deep dive discussion is headed off by the Three Stooges of Cinema Degeneration... Eric Phillips (Sequel Too, Deja Vu), Korey Dawson (Without Warning) and Cameron Scott. You can expect digressions and rants on everything from legendary actor Royal Dano, John Cena and his eventual evolution into Ernest P. Worrell, multiple ideas for Frogtown reboots and recastings and sequels, and even the Brendan Frasier Mummy franchise. Buckle in because it's going to be a wild ride! "Eat lead, Froggies!!!"
Philena Franklin is back but she's still on strike with SAG AFTRA so we've got some PUBLIC DOMAIN ZOMBIES for our first of two special HALLOWEEN episodes! First, we have rights-free ghouls invading a Ralph's in Burbank in MESSIAH OF EVIL (1974) from Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, the forgotten Lucasfilm power couple who later brought you HOWARD THE DUCK (1986). After really getting disturbing letters from her artist father, a young woman named Arletty (Marianna Hill) goes to the creepy coastal town of Point Dume to find out what's going on. She finds a polyamorous threesome, strange people gathering to stare at the sea at night, and, yes, flesh-eating zombies with blood streaming from their eyes. Also starring Elisha Cook, Jr., whom Greg calls the greatest film noir patsy of all time, and Royal Dano, Disneyland's voice of Abe Lincoln. Now streaming on Prime, Shudder and just about everywhere else--it's public domain! Next, we have Bela Lugosi himself in WHITE ZOMBIE, widely considered to be the first zombie flick ever. A rich plantation owner wants Bela to put a voodoo spell on the woman he loves, but gets so much more than he bargained for. This movie has some of the creepiest zombies ever and one of Bela's best performances, and a banger of an opening score according to Greg. The best print of White Zombie is streaming Kanopy, a free video streaming service available through participating public libraries. This episode is a bit of long one because we're so happy to have the full crew back again. We open with some talk of the Hollywood strikes, the end of Netflix DVDs by mail, a review of Sean Howe's new book AGENTS OF CHAOS, Cory's encounter with Pat Morita, and so much more. They're klowns. They kill. They're from outer space. Need we say more??? We're pretty sure the title of this movie alone could convince anyone that it's worth a watch, but if that doesn't do it, the tagline definitely will. On a new episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're talking about just how craazzy Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) actually is. Though it may have been under appreciated when it first hit theaters, it didn't take long for this film to find its audience, and its cotton candy cocoons and animatronic aliens quickly helped propel it to cult classic status. And while all that is super cool, we still have one more thing to add: It's all about that OT3, baby. This week Joshua and Drusilla watch an underseen 70's bop, Messiah of Evil. From Wikipedia: "Messiah of Evil (later also shown under the title Dead People) is a 1973 American supernatural horror film co-written, co-produced, and co-directed by Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, and starring Marianna Hill, Michael Greer, Anitra Ford, Royal Dano, and Elisha Cook Jr. Its plot follows a woman who travels to a remote coastal town in California to find her missing artist father; upon arrival, she finds herself in the midst of a series of bizarre incidents."But first! A lengthy debate over takeout, hot sauce, and pickles, which Josh edits out! But Drusilla watched an Amicus film, The Beast Must Die. This ties nicely into Josh's movie, Creepshow, and the duo debates about which story should have been cut. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - It's time to hear some words of inspiration as we head to Disneyland to watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on March 8, 2022. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland to watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Revel in the stirring oratory of Abraham Lincoln—delivered in person—and explore rare Disneyland memorabilia. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as being Dark. Before we blast off, here are five fast facts about Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. 1. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln has its origins in the 1964 New York World's Fair where the show was the prime feature of the State of Illinois Pavilion. A year later the show debuted at Disneyland on July 18, 1965. Over there years there have been some show tweaks and name changes and now Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is an element of the broader Disney Attraction The Disneyland Story presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln which debuted on December 18, 2009. 2. As you'll hear in the pre-show, Lincoln is voiced by actor Royal Dano. The recording in the current version of the show includes portions of the original World's Fair version of the show but made from, then, newly discovered recordings of Dano's performance. 3. The model of the Capitol Building in the lobby of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln took 3 years to carve from stone. 4. The present day version of this attraction shares some similarities with Epcot's American Adventure. Not only are the songs Two Brothers and Golden Dream featured in the show, the 12 Spirits of America featured in The American Adventure can bee seen in the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln lobby area. 5. While the Lincoln audio-animatronic has always been state of the art, in 2009 it made the jump from hydraulics to electronic giving it more of a range of motion. Let's head to the lobby to catch the pre-show. After the show, I'll give you my thoughts on this attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at Disneyland. A spaceship full of killer clowns lands in the woods, and the evil aliens wreak havoc on a nearby small town in this '80s gem.
Welcome back to the land of the deuces! Every franchise must have a part two and Ghoulies 2 is one of the worst sequels to ever grace the silver screen. Im not going to take away the hard work and dedication that the people involved put into it but...........If you have seen it then you know what I mean. If a franchise should have died after the second one then this one should have killed the Ghoulies franchise. But it made it stronger. Any movie with Royal Dano in it is something I will watch. Something about his portrayal of a drunk just gets me in the feels. Thanks to everybody that is listening and please reach out, leave a comment, rating, email, whatever floats your boat. www.droppedculture.com@droppedculture on Facebook, twitter, and instagramdroppedculturepodcast@gmail.comSponsored byHoley Smokes AmarilloFeathers Beadsand of course M'Taint!Don't worry Brandon we are getting to the Top 5 Gangster Movies as soon as possible

When a bunch of inept Martians mistakenly think they've missed the invasion of Earth, they arrive on Halloween night just in time for Big Bean, Illinois's rebroadcast of Orson Welles' War of the Worlds. Chaos ensues thanks to the lack of intelligent life in the universe and the Martian empire's penchant for micromanaging their navy. Douglas Barr, Royal Dano, Ariana Richards and Gregg Berger star in Spaced Invaders. Greetings and welcome back to Horror Business. We have one awesome episode in store for you guys. In this episode we’re talking about 1986’s House and 1988’s House II. First and foremost, we want to give a shoutout to our sponsors over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screen-printing company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a t-shirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Also, thank you to our Patreon subscribers. Your support means the world to us and we are eternally grateful for that support. Thanks! We start by briefly discussing what we’ve done lately involving horror. Liam talks about seeing Alucarda, and then discusses the conclusion of HBO’s The Outsider. Justin talks about the Netflix series I Am Not Okay With This, and the films The Invisible Man and VFW. Up first is House. We start by talking about our earliest experiences with this film; Liam talks about how the film early on seemed like little more than a fun adventure movie only to realize later on that the film is quite scary. We discuss how a lot of people conflate the two films and confuse the second for the first, the difference being that the first one is actually quite scary whereas the second is rather silly. The idea of the film being just a little too much for being an introductory film into the genre for kids is discussed. Justin talks about seeing the film on HBO as a child and believing that the one monster in the film was “Bloody Mary”. Some of the scarier moments in the film are discussed, especially the effects of the film and how legitimately nightmarish some of the imagery is. The film as a parable for how Vietnam vets were treated, and for PTSD in general, is discussed. The film’s uneven ending and resolution is touched upon, in that early on the film alludes to the house itself being some kind of malevolent entity until it’s revealed that the entire plot was an orchestration of a singular character and we spend some time on how the film has something of a weak ending overall. The film transitioning from a “funny but effective horror movie to an entirely horror adventure film” is touched upon. The film’s somewhat tasteless depiction of the Vietnam War is briefly discussed, and we again talk about how the film could be seen as a metaphor for how soldiers are treated when they return from war: everyone loves the troops until they come home and it’s time to actually hear what they have to say. We conclude by discussing George Wendt’s performance. Up next is House II. The production of the film is touched upon, as is the drop in quality from the first film and its inclusion in the La Casa series. We give a brief outline of the plot of the film and how, unlike the first film, it establishes a “big bad” character early on (but then fails to really include the character until the end of the film). Royal Dano’s character, and how he’s the most “human” character in the film, is touched upon. Some of the creatures, including the fabled Dogerpillar, are discussed. John Ratzenberger’s character, and how he might actually be the most interesting character, and how it’s Liam’s favorite part of the film is discussed. We conclude that, while the film isn’t nearly as good as the first one it’s still an extremely fun film. Our 3rd annual Halloween Special [insert spooky sound effect] has been made even more special by having a special guest: music journalist and patron of the very helpful Comedy Podcast Devotees site, Fran Jolley. He's chosen everyone's 2nd or 3rd favourite scary clown movie (or 4th if you include the 'It' mini-series) KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, for us to enjoy. Rob and Chris had never seen this before, so there's plenty for us all to experience.
#291 - Get your silly straws ready as we talk about Killer Klowns from Outer Space! Starring Grant Cramer, Suzanne Snyder, John Allen Nelson, Royal Dano, and John Vernon. What are some of your favorite clowns in entertainment?
Oh My God! Part 3 of the Dropped Culture Podcast Droppin Deuces Series, House 2 The Second Story! This is the story that you might want to forget but you cant because its just so darn......inter dimensional! The movie follows the last remaining days of Gramps (Played by the incomprehensible Royal Dano) and his trusty great great grandson Jesse as they try and keep a mystical crystal skull from falling into the hands of Kali-Ma followers, Cavemen, and evil cowboys. Sounds weird right? But here's the thing, it makes total sense in this movie. This movie has everything, from caterpillar prehistoric dogs, to pterodactyls, and even Jason Voorhees in a gorilla suit. With special appearances from the lead singer of Puce Glitz and the Avoiders and a haircut fit for Lloyd Christmas. This movie makes you want to grab a shovel and dig up your own great great grampa and go on an adventure with him! So tie your shoes up real tight because we are going to knock your socks right through the mo$%#r f&$*#s! Brought to you by the new album from Puce Glitz and the Avoiders "Breaking Stockholm Syndrome"

House II: The Second Story PG-13 1987 ‧ Adventure/Horror ‧ 1h 28m A man (Arye Gross) and his friend (Jonathan Stark) exhume an ancestor (Royal Dano) in the house where his parents were killed. Initial release: August 28, 1987 Director: Ethan Wiley Budget: 3 million USD Producer: Sean S. Cunningham Production company: New World Pictures Well you can't say we don't love you. Today Matt and Justin watch a movie from the Lister requested submissions. Sometimes we find fun and enjoyable films, that ether we never watched or never heard of. But that isn't always the case. Ep. 103 we cross off another one, House 2: The Second Story. A film not watched by the two in a collective 30 plus years. What we found out is its not as good as we once remembered. House 2 is under the horror genre which is a lie. Eventhough it is a sequel to the 1986 film House, House 2 does not involve the storyline and character from the first film, including the horror feel. House 2 is supernatural fantasy "comedy". Frankly its a mess of a film. If you haven't already watched the first House then skip this and check House.
