Rory Block returns to The Couch to talk about her latest release, Keepin’ Outta Trouble, the sixth album in her “Mentor Series” saluting the blues masters who’ve had a profound impact on her music. This time she pays tribute to Bukka White.  Rory will be making her third appearance on The Couch and we’ll talk about the music. Jason Elmore takes a seat with me to discuss his journey and the new album from he and the Hoodoo Witch, Champagne Velvet.  This is the third release for the band from Dallas who won “Best Blues” in 2012.  Jason and I will talk about his winding journey, putting the band together and where they are heading with this new release. Mitch Kashmar has just released his third album on Delta Groove entitled West Coast Toast.  The two-time BMA nominee honors the unique sounds of the west coast on this album.  I am looking forward to speaking with Mitch and learning of his journey and influences and what he sees in his future. Stevie J is an original Couch Kid having sat here back in January of 2011.  He is now about to release a new album entitled Back 2 Blues and as we listen to the tunes, we’ll find out what has been happening in Stevie’s life.

91 year old multi Grammy-nominated piano master, Henry Gray is a living legend and a national treasure whose recording career spans seven decades. After surviving deployments to the South Pacific with the Army during WWII, the Louisiana native found fame as a featured session player for Chess Records and easily found a home in the bands of the greatest blues players to ever record, including Little Walter, the Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and Elmore James. In fact, Gray was performing with Elmore James the night he died of a heart attack. If you ask him, Henry will tell you he left Chicago because everyone he knew died, and he didn’t want to catch what they had. After performing on stage with the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger asked Gray to perform at his wedding and his mother’s birthday party. In 2003 Gray was featured with Ray Charles in a documentary called Piano Blues which was produced by Clint Eastwood. The Delta Groove label released Gray’s latest studio effort with Bob Corritore called ‘The Blues Won’t Let Me Take My Rest.’

Anthony has been nominated for many awards, including the Grammy and has performed behind the who’s who of Blues legends from B.B. King to Big Walter Horton. His latest album released by Delta Groove, ‘50 Shades of Blue’ features the Boston Blues All-Stars who are a motley crew of blues veterans that include Sugar Ray Norcia, Darrell Nulisch, Mudcat Ward, Monster Mike Welch and more. It was reviewed as one of the top albums of 2015 and continues to place on the charts. Big Jon Atkinson is a traditional blues singer, songwriter, producer, guitarist, harmonica player and occasional gearhead. The young player is riding a tremendous blues high after breaking onto the scene and crossing paths with some of the most respected players in the business like Kim Wilson, Bob Corritore, Henry Gray, John Primer and Al Blake. The Southern raised guitarist is crazy about traditional blues, especially the post-war Chicago sound to which he has already provided outstanding contributions as demonstrated by his first two albums and his latest studio effort, House Party at Big Jons, released with Bob Corritore on one of today’s biggest blues labels, Delta Groove. Jon co-leads an all-star cast of heavy hitters on this project, including Dave Riley, Willie Buck and Alabama Mike.

My guest today is legendary guitarist Rick Vito! I have been a fan of his work for many years, and am honored to have him here. He has appeared on classic recordings by Todd Rundgren, Jackson Browne, John Mayall, and Bob Seger. He also replaced Lindsey Buckingham in Fleetwood Mac from 1987-1991. He started releasing solo records in 1992 which leads us to his brand new collection of songs called "Mojo On My Side". It is being released on June 16th 2015 on Delta Groove. Four new tracks are featured with this episode. I encourage you to buy the whole thing. It is so good! Learn more about Rick at www.rickvito.com and www.kingparis.com. If you reach out to Rick, please let him know that you heard him on my show. He has so many cool stories, and I hope to have him on again very soon. Enjoy! If you are looking for an easy way to support this show that won't cost you anything extra, just click through this LINK whenever you shop with Amazon. It goes a long way in keeping the lights on around here. Thank you in advance! We do not own any copyrights to the songs played on this episode. We have special permission by the artists themselves to play their music on the show for promotional purposes for the artists.

GUITAR SHORTY is a giant in the blues world. Credited with influencing both Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, Guitar Shorty has been electrifying audiences for five decades with his supercharged live shows and his incendiary recordings. Through the years, Shorty has performed with blues and R&B luminaries like Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, B.B. King, Guitar Slim and T-Bone Walker. His recordings all received massive critical acclaim, and his renowned live performances have kept him constantly in demand all over the world. His latest release on Alligator Records "Bare Knuckles" was nominated for two Blues Music Awards. TRACY NELSON has one of the signature voices of her generation.A fierce singer of truth, a fountain of the deepest heartache, she is an ultimate communicator and has regularly captivated audiences across decades of performing. She is one of the few female singers who has had hit records in both blues and country genres, performing with everyone from Muddy Waters to Willie Nelson to Marcia Ball and Irma Thomas, with Grammy® nominations for both her country and blues efforts. With "Victim of the Blues" (Delta Groove), her 26th album in just over five decades, she has circled fully, back to the original music from South Side Chicago that mesmerized her teenaged mind in the mid-1960s.
