Bassist, singer and songwriter Richard “RW” Grigsby, has logged several lifetimes on the road, and his early rock and roll roots (Rome, GA near the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains) burst out like another famous Richard from Georgia on “Road Scholar,” his story of a musician who has spent too much time on the road, working for too little pay. It's sung by Red's Blues drummer Tim Wilbur, a pro's pro (2017 Sacramento Music Awards and Sacramento Blues Society Hall of Fame member), who brought creative percussion ideas -- maracas AND the entire group thigh-slapping percussion. “We sat in chairs in a circle and slapped our thighs at certain points in the song to add accent,” laughs Beth. “Jackknifed” (co-authored with fellow road warrior Mark Hummel) continues the road theme with bio notes from their Golden State-Lone Star Blues Revue adventures. RW played with Carlene Carter, Gary Primich, Mike Morgan & The Crawl, Finger Taylor, Mark Hummel's Golden State Lone Star Revue w/Anson Funderburgh & Little Charlie, JamesCotton & all the Harmonica Blowouts since 2008-2019( Magic, Lee Oskar, Kim Wilson, Billy Boy, Jason Ricci, Carey Bell, Lazy Lester, Estrin, John Primer, Duke, Billy Flynn, Elvin, Gravenities, Ron Thompson, Harman, Rod Piazza & many others) 2014 Grammy-nominated and Blues Music Award (BMA) winner bassist RW Grigsby has been playing since he was 14 years old and began his professional career when still a teenager. He's toured the U.S., Canada and Europe since the '80s, and currently juggles playing with Red's Blues, Mark Hummel & the Blues Survivors and The Golden State/Lone Star Blues Revue. He played and recorded with Texas blues stars Gary Primich and Black Top Records' Mike Morgan and the Crawl in the 1990s. RW is the bassist on the 2014 Grammy-nominated and BMA-winning CD, Remembering Little Walter. He was nominated for a BMA “Best Bassist” Award in 2017 and was inducted into the Sacramento Blues Society Hall of Fame in 2018.

No Border Blues Episode 2: Features Sony Music recording artist Aki Kumar. Aki left his native home in Mumbai, India for San Jose CA with the intention of working as a software engineer. Then he discovered the sounds of the blues, and his life changed dramatically. Aki worked his way from selling merch at Mark Hummel's Harmonica Blowouts (a successful revue that featured some of the very best blues harp players alive -- James Cotton, Kim Wilson, Rod Piazza, Charlie Musselwhite, Billy Boy Arnold, etc) to being a featured artist on the show. He developed a following in the Bay Area and began touring in Russia, Scandinavia, the UK and South America and was well received as a traditional Chicago/West Coast traditional blues artist. But by 2016, he started feeling a need to expand his musical vision. "Aki Goes to Bollywood" on Little Village Foundation, is the first "Bollywood Blues" recording -- blending elements of Indian music into his musical and visual presentation, making for a multi-cultural mash-up that sounds like no one else, yet never loses touch with its blues foundation. Aki has made multiple appearances at The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival and has been featured on PRI “The World”. noborderblues.com - chicagobluesnetwork.com - johnnyburgin.com Learn more about your ad choices. If you're moved by the classic sounds of Chicago, West coast swing and jump blues, the authentic tone of '50's guitar, cool rhythm's and Fat tone amplified harmonica in the style of the greats such as T.Bone Walker, Robert Lockwood Jnr, Fred Below, George Harmonica Smith, Little Walter and William Clarke, then Smokehouse Blues are the real deal. Smokehouse have a deep passion for this music, and their live performance's around the country are evidence of their energy and style. Influenced by the blues greats of the 1950's & 60's, Smokehouse Blues work hard to carry on this great music adding there own special touches along the way. Smokehouse blues are a four piece band from the Northwest of England. They play no nonsence pure blues Since 1998 Smokehouse Blues have been earning themselves the reputation as one of the purest blues bands in the country. Influenced by the likes of Little Walter, George Smith, Sonny Boy Williamson II and more recently by Kim Wilson, William Clarke and Rod Piazza. Front man Johny Hewitt on harmonica and vocals is surely one of the best at his trade. Formed in 1998 all members of the band have grown up and jammed together since boyhood. Consisting of:- Johny Hewitt on Harmonica & Vocals Barny Barnett on Guitar Gary Clarke on Bass Baz 'Dog' Evans on Drums They have strived to achieve the raw authentic sound of Chicago and West coast blues, the kind of blues that can only be played with a passion guaranteed to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and boogie with a constantly changing set including many of their own original songs, as well as some classic blues standards. They have won over audiences at most of the major blues festivals in England and paid their dues around the bars and clubs, supporting the likes of Paul Lamb & the King Snakes, Nicky Moores and Steve Philips. http://www.smokehouseblues.co.uk/index.php?f=data_home&a=0
At 69 hours of the finest blues you've never heard, it sounds like a marathon. That's 2.875 continuous days of the blues. Or a work-week and a three-quarters. Or, about the number of hours it would take to drive straight through from New York to Los Angeles and back to Chicago, averaging 69 mph. Larry McCray, Kenny Neal and Billy Branch, Tony Deziel, Luther Allison, and Rod Piazza are just some of the 13 artists ahead. As promised, I'll also announce the winner of the Chris Juergensen CD. There's another Roadhouse Rewound segment and, in general, just a little club full of fun. So, crank up the headphones, crack open a brew and chair-dance to your heart's content - we're top down and rolling.
