It's time for Teen Nick once again as we learn about the goopiest show in the history of a network famous for covering people in slime. It's The Secret World of Alex Mack, a kids' superhero show with weirdly adult anti-corporate themes and also the first screen appearance of Jessica Alba.
Teen drama! A term that probably conjures to mind thoughts of channels like CW or Teen Nick. Seldom does the term seem to be what one would apply to professional wrestling but over the last week or so it is in fact probably the best term to describe the happenings in the backstage of All Elite Wrestling. But how can a wrestling company create more teen-like drama than, say, the CW? MSTie fan Shelly Repko joins us for Jon and I's first embarkment on the cartoons that made us tick on both the cable channels, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network! Did Cartoon Network start becoming a fad around '04 or was it more around '06? Did Nickelodeon try too hard to do too many Saturday Night Live type sketch shows (only aimed for kids)? How many had the cable tv package which would just shift from Nick to Teen Nick and then Nick at Nite on just one station? Did Adult Swim practically take over Cartoon Network more so than the Toonami programming block? And more discussion, debates and merit about evolving modern-day animation! TALK's fifth episode with Anthropologie's Creative Director, Bobby Whigham. We learn the trajectory of Bobby's career on this episode, and we started to sense somewhat of a theme with our creative guests -- this world of creatives that shape so much of fashion, culture, and style often somewhat fall into their path or find that it finds them in some unpredicted way. Essentially, you can't always plan these things. Bobby discusses some of the work he's doing now, how he kept busy during quarantine, and offers some great advice for fellow freelancers and creatives. Our episode begins with a look at Bobby's initial career interests and how he ended up working retail and fully moving and growing through the ranks at Urban Outfitters from Buyer, Stylist Manager, Trend and Concept Design to lead Editorial Photographer all the way to Creative Director of Men's and Women's Brand Imagery. After initially being rejected by the store associates at his local Urban Outfitters, he had a chance encounter with one of those same associates which ended up taking a chance on him and making him a dressing room attendant. Having always had the need to create, Bobby took it upon himself to shoot his friends and capture trending looks in New York City proving his passion and innate talent getting him promoted. For the next decade, Bobby grew with Urban Outfitters which we all know has always been right on the pulse of trends and culture amongst teens and young adults in North America. Currently, Bobby serves as Creative Director for Anthropologie continuing to expand on his vision for the company. Bobby has consistently dipped his toes in other creative roles and mediums such as photography, making his own t-shirts for birthday parties, and collaborating with his long-time friend @rxmance on @Cowboy.Surf (inspired by what he could creatively take away from Orange County). Keeping busy with different projects probably has a lot to do with how he's continued to stay fresh and imaginative for other companies aside from Urban, such as Pacific Sunwear and Ralph Lauren. He's also been able to leverage his talent for spotting upcoming trends into a wardrobe role where he was able to bring a certain aesthetic that he understands so well to characters on Teen Nick and Netflix shows. Why TALK loves Bobby -- Bobby is willing to try so many mediums and really keeps his creativity alive almost 24/7, it's part of his ethos. We loved hearing how he acted as a multi-faceted asset to a brand so many of us are familiar with. Knowing that he has played a big part in this company also shows us that he understands his consumers and their desire for that cool and effortless look and feel so many of us strive for. Lastly, we love that he's been able to expand on this talent and dive into his own passion projects with fashion, and even bringing his work onto the screen. We can't wait to see what other projects come from this brilliant mind. FOLLOW BOBBY: INSTAGRAM

Thank you for listening to Mystery, Science, Marshall! After being on hiatus since September, the podcast is back in action! We're very excited to begin producing new episodes again in the new year of 2021. In this episode, Marshall flies solo to reflect on 2020 and discuss one of his favorite shows, "House of Anubis." 2020 was a very rough year for many reasons, but there were still some moments and memories that shine through the darkness. Through the miserable days of quarantine and the pandemic, Marshall talks about how much he's learned about himself and the nature of true friendships. 2020 also brought a national conversation about racism to center stage in the United States, providing many lessons and calls to actions to conquer systematic racism and recognize implicit bias. After the 2020 discussion, Marshall launches into rambling about "House of Anubis," a Nickelodeon TV series that ran from 2011 until 2013 centering on students living in a boarding school with relationship drama while uncovering an ancient Egyptian mystery. Marshall raves about the series' creative storylines and characters that reveal a deeper theme of the importance of true, compassionate friendship. We're so excited that you've chosen to listen to this podcast! New episodes will be released each week on Friday afternoons. You can follow Marshall on social media @marshall_films on Instagram, @MarshallFilms1 on Twitter, and MarshallFilm123 on YouTube. View the podcast website at mysterysciencemarshall.com. Remember to love what you love, who you love, love yourself, and keep feelin' groovy!

Meredith O’Connor is a pop star, anti-bullying activist, and international spokesperson on mental health awareness. Her hit song Celebrity went viral on YouTube in 2013, with more than 2 million views, followed up by The Game, about bullying. This led to a world tour, being featured on Radio Disney and Teen Nick, and eventually an invitation to the United Nations to speak on the topic of bullying. What you will learn: How Meredith defied critics early in her career and proved that there is a sizable audience for songs with positive messages. How her own struggles with OCD inspired her to become the role model she wished she had growing up. Her thoughts on how widespread COVID anxieties could lead to the destigmatization of mental illness. The significance of empathy and education about mental illness, especially for the parents of struggling kids. How international success helped show her that no one is alone in their suffering, and made her resolve to help those feeling isolated even stronger. How she handles the pressures of being in the public spotlight while managing pre-existing mental health issues. The influence Broadway had on her vocal style growing up and how she transitioned to pop music. How she collaborates in the songwriting process with her co-writer Heather Holly. What it was like learning to play the guitar after receiving a record contract. The advice she would give young people who wish to pursue music professionally. Sri Rao is a writer-director-producer based in New York City. He has created and sold numerous TV pilots in both network and cable television, spanning drama as well as comedy. Recent credits include dramas Alpha/Omega to BBC America, White House Affairs to NBC (with Craig Zadan & Neil Meron), Courtesan to Universal (with director Shekhar Kapur), The Black Widow to NBC, and comedy S.O.B. to ABC (with Kelly Ripa). His previous pilot sales include musical dramedy I Am Not Myself These Days to Bravo (with Darren Star) and drama U.N. to Fox. Sri began his career in New York’s indie film and theater scene. His first professional production as writer-director was the play, Precipice, which premiered at NY Performance Works before transferring to LA’s Greenway Court Theater. Sri then adapted Precipice into the pilot, Quarter Life, before going on to write and direct the indie film, Tuesday. His early work led to a career in television, beginning with the drama series, What Goes On, which Sri created for TeenNick. In addition to serving as Executive Producer/Showrunner, Sri wrote and directed most of the 10 episodes in the show’s first season. Moreover, Sri’s production company acted as the independent studio on the series, creating a 50,000-square-foot soundstage in Philadelphia to successfully leverage Pennsylvania’s film tax credit. Sri oversaw all aspects of production – from negotiating Union contracts to managing the production budget, payroll, production and post – all while guiding a writing staff of seven writers. On the motion picture side, Sri’s production company has produced two major Bollywood films for India’s largest and most well-respected studio, Yash Raj Films. The movies, New York and Badmaash Company, were filmed in the United States for a global market. Sri and his team managed an international cast and crew, including A-list Indian talent such as Irrfan Khan of Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi. In addition to his unique production experience, Sri has a keen eye for story and crafting characters, plot, and drama – as demonstrated by his stint as Head Writer for the primetime soap, General Hospital: Night Shift. Sri oversaw a writing staff of eight writers and under his direction, the show was nominated for 11 Soap Opera Spirit Awards, including Best Head Writer. In the unscripted arena, Sri directed and produced the docudrama pilot, U. of Fashion for MTV, as well as webisodes for TVLand’s High School Reunion. Who hasn’t indulged the childhood fantasy of playing in a band with your best friend and promising to stay together forever (and ever)? Only in the case of Kira Leyden and Jeff Andrea—co-leads of the Akron Ohio based The Strange Familiar. The pair met and played in their first band together as pre-teens at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Lead vocalist & keyboardist Leyden and guitarist Andrea parlayed their musical partnership into a bond of matrimony. The couple recently had their first child, daughter Rayne. Alongside talented band-mates and fellow Ohio-bred musicians Nicholas Sainato on drums and Frank Freeman on bass, The Strange Familiar has certainly earned its namesake. In 2008, they made their recorded debut with the indie EP release You Can't Go Back and followed up it up with two indie album releases This Is Gravity (2009) and Chasing Shadows in 2012. Their songs have been prominently featured on popular shows such as Pretty Little Liars, NBC’s The Biggest Loser and The Vampire Diaries, “Switched at Birth,” ABC’s “Brothers and Sisters,” Teen Nick’s “Degrassi” and LMN’s “The 19th Wife.” Their song “Courage" was used for the series premier of “Secret Life of an American Teenager” and became the un-official theme song by the show’s fans. With all this growing exposure, the band was nominated and won MTVu’s Freshman Challenge. Signed to Krian Music Group, their new album The Day The Light Went Out, will be released April 2014.The first single “Rain” is now available on iTunes
