Even before the release of the first Underworld movie, director Len Weisman knew the original script had far too much story for just one film, so it was cut in half to fit two movies. Once the first Underworld proved … Continue reading →

The boys continue the Underworld franchise with Underworld: Evolution. In this sequel, we get to learn what became of Micheal and Selene who need to tell the original vampire about Kraven's treachery! At least that's how the movie starts out. From there it's a mess of events that just keep on happening. "Needlessly complicated" as Mike would put it.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-content

Scott Speedman may have morphed into the perfect halfbreed boyfriend for vampire Kate Beckinsale at the end of Underworld, but there has been no Evolution in her clan's thinking when it comes to interspecies romance. Can the pair escape the nocturnal city and find a place for themselves within a primordial forest? And what happens when winged Elder Marcus (Tony Curran) catches up with the Death Dealer, and learns where his Lycan brother is imprisoned? The key to making sense of the sequel is listening to the latest Now Playing podcast.

This week, Music Supervisor Kyle Cullen is on the podcast - inspired by the revelation that Mike Smith hadn't seen UNDERWORLD last week, he decided to do a Guest Makes Mike Watch of... you guessed it: UNDERWORLD! But not just UNDERWORLD - Kyle insisted on a double feature of UNDERWORLD and its sequel, UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION. Are these movies better than Mike Smith gave them credit for back in the day? Or do they still belong in the trash bin of the million MATRIX knockoffs of the mid-2000s? Let's find out!
Andre continues his review over the Underworld franchise with Underworld Evolution. Enjoy!
This week we cover the five movies of the "Underworld" franchise. All star Kate Beckinsale as the skin-tight-leather-clad-vampire-assassin named Selene. Vampires are in a centuries old battle with lycans (ie werewolves). Humans are non the wiser about either species until later in the franchise. I would suggest checking out the first movie and possibly the second ("Underworld: Evolution"). Later entries unfortunately are really more of the same. And in keeping with the theme, The-Girl-Who-Ate-Everything.com has a recipe for edible fake blood. It's super easy and good for any Halloween/horror themed party. Check it out here Photo Credit: Here

The franchise is lead by a leather-clad Kate Beckinsale as the vampyre warrior Selene, who is part of the centuries-old feud between vampires and werewolves. This war might be coming to a head with the appearance of a man who might be able to unite the two monster clans by becoming a … vampire/werewolf/human hybrid. We're joined in this episode by the brilliant writer, presenter and podcaster Louise Blain, who gives her hilarious take onthe first three films in the franchise. Shortly after the clear success of Underworld, the studio signed on for two more films to round out a trilogy. Len Wiseman and Danny McBride said they'd already planned out the concept for a trilogy, but was it more a macroscopic view? Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we talk about the second film in our Underworld series, Wiseman's 2006 film Underworld: Evolution. We talk about the many problems with the film, including those which should've been clear for storytellers who had planned it all out ahead of time. We chat about Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman and how well they fare in this return to the world of Underworldia. We debate many of the changes to vampire and werewolf lore, wondering which, if any, will last. We look at the fight scenes, which work, and which fall short. (We may also touch on the broken laws of physics in some of these fights.) We talk about the cast and crew and how well everyone does to continue the world created in the first film. And we have a great time digging into the award nominations for this film. It's a sequel full of problems, but one that's awfully fun to watch. Vampire Flicks (pt 3/3) We round out our series with Underworld: Evolution. Y'know, this picture has surprisingly low stakes for a vampire movie.

This week we have a special guest host, Adam, of the soon to be released, Deep Cuts Matinee podcast. Be sure to follow Slashers for more updates as we will be happily sharing our friends' work. Based on the game of the same name... well not exactly, because the game is also called Biohazard... oh and virtually nothing from the game makes it into the movie... Well, based on one of the titles for the game, we are reviewing Resident Evil (2002). As we have through the entire "Button Smashers" month of June, we talk not only about the film, but the underlying game franchise as well. For instance, did you know that George A. Romero directed a Japanese commercial for Biohazard 2? Of all the films we have done this month, Resident Evil's film and game franchises are the most expansive. Hell, we even talk the novelization of this film, which is completely unnecessary. The film was written and directed by, Paul W.S. Anderson, who penned all of the films in the franchise, including: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016). You may recall his name as the director of the film we reviewed in our pilot episode, Event Horizon, and last week's episode, Mortal Kombat. The soundtrack features an interesting collaboration with Marco Beltrami and Marilyn Manson. Beltrami did tons of movies in this era like Scream, The Faculty, Underworld Evolution, and Mimic, but went on to work on films like Logan and A Quiet Place. Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Hellboy, and the upcoming Monster Hunter) plays Alice. Fun fact: she later went on to become Mrs. Paul W.S. Anderson. Michelle Rodriguez of Fast and the Furious fame, is in this film. She later went on to appear in the tragically terrible Bloodrayne. Did you know she was arrested for assault the year Resident Evil came out? I did. I just forgot to mention it on the show. Eric Mabius found his way into the film after skulking through The Crow: Salvation. Years before appearing in Alien vs. Predator, Colin Salmon, appeared in this film. You may remember him as the guy from the hallway who would fit into an ice cube tray. This week's "Hidden Track" is by Project 19. It is called Torn by the Thread. Special guest Dani is having a new problem with the corsets, and Sheldon is having a hard time finding a compelling story in this movie. But at least the Lycan costume design is amazing, and surely they'll keep to practical wolf costumes from here on out, right?
Cortney watches all the Underworlds: Underworld (2003), Underworld: Evolution (2006), Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009), Underworld: Awakening (2012), Underworld: Blood Wars (2016).
The one where Green Blooded Bastard watches Underworld: Evolution. In this movie Kate Beckinsale is a smooth talking computer Death Dealer from gothic somewhere or fuck where they not only blow whistles, but also blow minds and kill werewolves part 2 with hybrids! fml.
Ryan, Mike, and Shane bring our sexiest episode number with the sexiest topic: Sexy Horror!!...sex. Ok so this time we talk all kinds of sexy with a variety of sexy horror selections. Also, Ryan watched Captain Marvel and gives his thoughts, Shane takes a phone call, and Mike loses his shit over Kate Beckinsale's new boyfriend. On this episode we are tackling all of the big Underworld questions - whose side are you on in the Vampire versus Werewolf war? Would a half Vampire half Werewolf be able to breed or would they be sterile like a mule? And most importantly - do vampires go to the bathroom? So grab your silver nitrate bullets and join us for the original Underworld!
Thirteen years ago on January 20, 2006 the world was exposed to the endless war in two very different films. The box office hit UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION was #1 for the weekend at 26.8 million dollars while the documentary WHY WE FIGHT opened on just six screens to 53 grand. One film presents a very complex issue of how violence and cruelty in the quest for power is passed down from generation to generation... and the other doesn't feature Kate Beckinsale in a catsuit. Kate Beckinsale is a Death Dealer in the great war between Vampires and Lycans and this movie is a war between shooting guns in slow motion and bad dialogue. I don’t know who will win but I know that the audience loses. So grab your UV rounds and join us for Underworld: Evolution!
