Join us as we dive into the astonishing story of Paul Wason, a seasoned trapper who stumbled upon a piece of the infamous Roswell crash. But this wasn't just any debris. It was a large fragment of otherworldly metal, impervious to any human force. Wason, compelled by the inexplicable nature of his find, sought answers from an unlikely source—a young Mormon on his mission.

This week I was able to revisit with Yoshika Wason, who is an educator and writer, as well as a 2nd generation born and raised ex-member of the Unification Church. We explore a plethora of stories and intersections between our two perspectives of growing up moonie in the city of Bridgeport Connecticut. We discuss the settlement era of the Unification church and what that looked like from a child's perspective. We also talk about Poetry, Wonhwado, navigating school systems in a corrupt system, escaping the cycle of income inequality, labor trafficking of 1st generation Unification Church members, and so much more. Bridgeport Ct has one of the highest crime rates in the United States and Bridgeport is ranked as 2nd in the US as greatest city with income inequality. Please keep in mind that many Unification Church members are working for trade services, with no actual paystubs, health care, retirement, insurance or social security. (Labor trafficking, financial abuse, debt bondage,) Also keep in mind that during this "Settlement era" there is immense pressure to support the church and donate/tithe unjustifiable amounts to the church and affiliated organizations. When a survivor tells their story, reach out and let them know they have been heard. Mike has been aware of the Wason Pond Pounder for many years and we registered for their final event (planned for 2020) back in 2019! Of course 2020 was a rough year for events to say the least and their event was postponed again in 2021 due to picking dates that would have been difficult for attendance (one of them overlapping with OCRWC I believe). The final event finally happened though! We woke at 6:30am to make the trip up to New Hampshire to check out this small local OCR. We were not disappointed since the course was very well laid out, fun, and had some great obstacles for beginners to the sport! We interviewed a few people in the festival area, the top finishers, a woman that we helped through the course, and then finish up with an event recap! 0:00 - 3:24 - Intro 3:24 - 18:00 - Quick News 18:00 - 19:27 - Content Preface 19:27 - 28:10 - Fire Chief and Race Director David Veale Interviews 28:10 - 38:20 - Top Finisher Interviews 38:20 - 43:39 - Team Supendous and Derti Development Interviews 43:39 - 47:26 - Interview with Wendy and Mike and Katelyn Race Recap 47:26 - End - Outro ____ News Stories: Wall Street Journal Spartan Race "Cash Crunch" Savage Race Response to WSJ Article FIT Challenge Response to WSJ Article Brooklyn Half Marathon Death City Challenge Jersey City Podiums Nature Race Podiums Nuclear Race Podiums Spartan Toronto Sprint Podiums Spartan Toronto Super Podiums Spartan Nationals Park Stadium Podiums Toughest Mudder Philly Podiums Savage Race Maryland Podiums Savage Pro Series Leaderboards Accurate Secret Link Confusion Secret Link Alexa Secret Link Birthday Secret Link ____ Related Episodes: 109. A big word here at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and Society is “interconnectedness”—we're curious about the manner in which different aspects of society interact with each other, and how understanding these connected aspects can help us better approach society as a whole. In this conversation, we're joined by three preeminent thinkers from a diverse range of fields for a discussion entitled “Developing an Interconnected Society.” Shelly Christensen works at the intersection of Jewish advocacy and disability rights activism, having founded the nonprofit Inclusion Innovations to help combate disability exclusion. Peter Whitehouse is a professor of neurology at Case Western University and an expert in psychology and bioethics. Finally, Paul Wason serves as senior director of culture and global perspectives at the John Templeton foundation following a distinguished administrative career at Bates College, Maine. These three speakers are joined today to offer us insight into the ways in which the greatest problems facing society today may at their essence all be related, and what we can do to confront these issues holistically. Please enjoy.

Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mlst Discord: https://discord.gg/ESrGqhf5CB YT version: https://youtu.be/yPMtSXXn4OY Dr. Andrew Lampinen is a Senior Research Scientist at DeepMind, and he thinks that symbols are subjective in the relativistic sense. Dr. Lampinen completed his PhD in Cognitive Psychology at Stanford University. His background is in mathematics, physics, and machine learning. Andrew has said that his research interests are in cognitive flexibililty and generalization, and how these abilities are enabled by factors like language, memory, and embodiment. Andrew with his coauthors has just released a paper called symbolic behaviour in artificial intelligence. Andrew lead in the paper by saying the human ability to use symbols has yet to be replicated in machines. He thinks that one of the key areas to bridge the gap here is considering how symbol meaning is established, and he strongly believes it is the symbol users themselves who agree upon the symbol meaning, And that the use of symbols entails behaviours which coalesce agreements about their meaning. Brush Creek Ranch is a working cattle ranch in the North Platte River Valley of south-central Wyoming, originally settled in 1884. Today, it encompasses over 30,000 acres of land surrounded by breathtaking views of the Sierra Madre mountains and Medicine Bow National Forest. Purchased in 2008 by Bruce and Beth White, it is now a stunning luxury resort. The family's vision strikes a perfect balance between active outdoor recreation, shared experiences, personal renewal, and economic sustainability. They aim to enrich their cattle ranch legacy through the preservation of their unique ecosystem. They endeavor to enhance the environment, while preserving the authentic spirit of the west by educating our guests about sustainable ranch management and the historical stories of the land. Their goal is to have a closed-loop environmental ranch. Their latest project, Brush Creek Distillery, is an extension of that vision. We spoke to their managing director, Andrew Wason, and their head distiller and production manager, Philip Mundt, about the many collaborations they have with the on-sight talent and resources on Brush Creek Ranch, and what makes their products so unique. We also heard about the ups and downs of living in an isolated, small town, and how they personally have found balance. Interested in sponsoring us? Virginia voters in a recent poll ranked themselves as moderate, with a slightly conservative lean, but indicated support of more progressive legislation. The poll, released last week by Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Civic Leadership, could be a thermometer for the upcoming November election. Virginia voters ranked themselves an average of 5.83 on a zero to 10 scale (liberal to conservative). Republicans ranked themselves 8.11 on average, while Democrats rated themselves 3.57 on average. Independents ranked themselves 5.72. “In this upcoming election, it is especially possible that it could be competitive,” said Rebecca Bromley-Trujillo, research director at the Wason...Article LinkSupport the show (http://henricocitizen.com/contribute)

The theme for this special night at HOTA was 'Love on the Beach'. GC Bulletin journalist, Ann Wason Moore performs her story of the same name. It is her love of Texas, USA and her love of the Gold Coast. Circumstance may have taken her from one to the other. But one day she would have to choose. I perform the soundtrack to Ann's story on my trusty hollow body electric guitar whilst playing HOTA's baby grand piano. Thanks to Ben Quinn for the recording and thanks again to Bern Young for Ann's introduction. I hope you enjoy the story.

In the newest episode of The Big Rhetorical Podcast, Charles talks with Noah Wason as a part of the Emerging Scholar Series. Noah Wason is a PhD candidate in Syracuse University's Composition and Cultural Rhetoric program where he serves as a Teaching Assistant. Noah's teaching focuses on composition and rhetoric, digital humanities, and surveillance in addition to popular culture and antiracist pedagogy; his teaching often incorporates popular culture and intertextuality. His research focuses on the intersections between rhetorical theory and technology, notably the connections between ethos and the algorithmic technologies that power social media platforms. His dissertation project, "Algorithmic Dwelling: The Consequences of Ethos on Social Media Platforms," examines how a critical posthuman conception of ethos can help us to understand how technologies shape our information processing and community formation. In his free time, Noah enjoys spending time with his family, visiting local coffee shops, and watching horror films.

Love urban living but fed up with traffic? So were Amber Wason and her co-founder Jeff Stefanis. Instead of just complaining, they got to work and developed a cool new electric bike, launched a campaign to fund it on Kickstarter and then.... cleverly made a deal with Kevin Cole to sell their bikes in his stores. How? Listen to Amber's story in her eye-opening conversation with Green Connections Radio host Joan Michelson from the Clean Tech Open Southeast Regional Innovation Summit. You'll learn how: They came up with the idea. To do a successful Kickstarter campaign. To persuade a major retailer to carry your new product when you're just starting out. Law and banking in one podcast. Take deep breaths lest your racing heart burst in your chest. You think I'm joking. Probably because you don't know Mehrsa Baradaran. But then, you probably do, because everyone does. We talk about, among other things, how one should say “Mehrsa,” what banking is, It’s a Wonderful Life, how banks are subsidized and regulated, how 40 percent of the country doesn’t really bank or at least “underbanks,” and payday lenders. Christian does not call Joe “Adam Smith.” Mehrsa defends banking at the post office (dubbed by one banking industry exec “the worst idea since the Ford Edsel”). From the bank bailouts to moral hazard to the the precarious financial position of the working poor, we cover a lot of ground. And, naturally, speed traps. (Update 11/24/2018: Christian here. A listener got in touch with some very thoughtful criticism of our discussion during the intro. Talking about a gendered list, I casually raised switching genders to get on this list, in a way that the listener perceived as making a joke of transgender people. It pains me that this discussion would hurt anyone. I’m very sorry. Although it has been a long time since this conversation, I know my intent was to poke a little fun at the gendered nature of the list, though I winced at my ham-fisted mention of reassignment surgery. I hope it’s a sign of progress that I don’t believe the conversation would be the same today as it was then. But we feel strongly that retroactively editing the show should be reserved for truly exceptional situations, not to save face.) Professor Gendler begins with a demonstration of sampling bias and a discussion of the problems it raises for empirical psychology. The lecture then returns to divisions of the soul, focusing on examples from contemporary research. The first are dual-processing accounts of cognition, which are introduced along with a discussion of the Wason selection task and belief biases. Next, the influential research of Kahneman and Tversky on heuristics and biases is introduced alongside the famous Asian disease experiment. Finally, Professor Gendler introduces her own notion of alief and offers several examples that distinguish it from belief.
