Morning Mantra: “Focus on your opinion of yourself and not the opinion others have of you.”We tend to try to hide our negative traits, the things were not crazy about within ourselves. We push them down inside and never address their effects on our emotional well-being.  But those issues offer a great opportunity for growth.  Instead of feeling bad about what you perceive is lacking in yourself, appreciate it as a new awareness. If you ignore it, you can't change it.Notice what's bothering you and say, “Thank You”. Thank you for revealing a part of me that needs compassion, curiosity, courage and love.  Then try to view all problems or issues as challenges. Look upon negativities that arise as opportunities to learn, and to grow. Don't run from them, condemn yourself, or bury your burden in silence. You have a problem? Great! Rejoice, dive in, and investigate.By facing our challenges or shortcomings and overcoming them, we grow stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. Self-care is also addressing your own problematic thoughts and behaviors. Prepare to challenge your investment strategies as market analyst Michael Belkin of the Belkin Report joins me, Michael Guy, in an insightful discussion on the evolving global stock market landscape. Are we witnessing a slowly forming market top, particularly as emerging markets and European stocks stumble while US indexes continue to shine? Drawing on the wisdom of market legend John Templeton, we question whether maximum optimism might just be the key to identifying contrarian opportunities. With Belkin's rich background in market analysis and quant strategy, this episode promises a comprehensive exploration of current market conditions and potential turning points. Our conversation takes a deep dive into the forces shaping bond yields, from Federal Reserve policies to the aftermath of the Trump administration's economic maneuvers. We scrutinize the impact of tariffs, tax cuts, and the pandemic's fiscal stimuli, all of which fuel inflationary pressures and affect bond market sentiment. While skepticism looms over Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, we explore why gold and gold mining stocks might offer a safer haven, backed by recent central bank buying trends. The strong dollar's effect on emerging markets and the widening credit spreads are also dissected, giving you the tools to navigate these turbulent times.Turning our gaze to global geopolitics, we unravel the tensions in the Persian Gulf and Ukraine and their implications for market stability. As energy supplies risk disruption and geopolitical threats mount, how should investors adjust their portfolios? With insights from the Vail Investment Forum, we advocate for a shift towards energy, coal, and defensive stocks, while cautioning against the inflated tech and retail sectors. Join me as I sit down with Dr. Randy Ross, the brilliant mind behind “Fireproof Happiness,” a book inspired by the trials of the COVID pandemic. Randy takes us on a journey through the powerful interplay between hope and happiness, invoking John Templeton’s timeless wisdom that “happiness pursued eludes, but happiness given returns.” Explore the transformative shift from a VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) world to a CAVU (ceiling and visibility unlimited) mindset and discover how hope is not just an emotion, but a dynamic motivational system crucial for achieving success. Our discussion doesn’t stop there. We delve into the foundational beliefs necessary to cultivate hope—positivity, responsibility, agility, and reality—and provide actionable strategies to nurture these traits.

David Skarica: The Greatest Scenario For Gold Stocks

Tom welcomes back David Skarica, Publisher and Founder of Stock Chart Of The Day. David Skarica the current rate-cutting cycle by the Federal Reserve, suggesting that political pressure might be the main driving force behind these cuts. He compared the current situation to previous cycles, noting that in 2008, the market was in a crash, while in 2019 and 1995, stocks were rallying before the rate cuts. Skarica also highlighted that the bubbles in 2008 indicated that previous rate cut cycles did not immediately work, but this time, the economy has held up relatively well. He expressed the belief that this rate cut cycle will be different and that predictions of a significant market downturn may not necessarily come true. Skarica mentions that the Federal Reserve is looking to cut short-term interest rates in a controlled manner to avoid shocking the market. The expected cuts in March, May, and June are predicted to be less severe than those in 2008 or 2020, as the economy is not showing signs of requiring substantial intervention. Skarica emphasized that the Federal Reserve is taking a more strategic approach to interest rate adjustments to prevent abrupt changes that could disrupt the market. The conversation then shifts to the performance of gold stocks during rate cut cycles. Skarica cited examples from 2005-2008 and 2018-2020, where gold stocks outperformed the market in the first 12-24 months of a rate cut cycle. However, as the bull market matures, investors tend to shift to more aggressive investments, leading to a slowing trend. Skarica theorized that a similar cycle may be observed again due to high levels of debt. He suggested that combining a bull market with rising gold prices and low oil prices could create an ideal scenario for gold stocks. Skarica also touched on the importance of a long-term investment horizon, citing examples from the past. He pointed out the success of investors like Jim Dines and John Templeton, who made substantial profits by having a long-term perspective and buying stocks when they were undervalued. He encouraged investors to remain open-minded and look for opportunities while also being aware of potential risks. In terms of specific recommendations, Skarica suggested investing in gold and, more specifically, gold stocks, which he believes are currently undervalued despite the high price of gold. He acknowledged the risks associated with these stocks but stated that the potential for rewards is significant. A big word here at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and Society is “interconnectedness”—we're curious about the manner in which different aspects of society interact with each other, and how understanding these connected aspects can help us better approach society as a whole. In this conversation, we're joined by three preeminent thinkers from a diverse range of fields for a discussion entitled “Developing an Interconnected Society.” Shelly Christensen works at the intersection of Jewish advocacy and disability rights activism, having founded the nonprofit Inclusion Innovations to help combate disability exclusion. Peter Whitehouse is a professor of neurology at Case Western University and an expert in psychology and bioethics. Finally, Paul Wason serves as senior director of culture and global perspectives at the John Templeton foundation following a distinguished administrative career at Bates College, Maine. These three speakers are joined today to offer us insight into the ways in which the greatest problems facing society today may at their essence all be related, and what we can do to confront these issues holistically. Please enjoy.

On today's podcast I interview the founder of Project Rescue Children Adam Whittington, and fellow child activist John Templeton. We discuss the horrors of child sex-trafficking, and the amazing people around the world working together to rescue children from a life of sex slavery. This will be uncomfortable, and confronting conversation and is likely to bring more than one tear to your eye when you join us on this special edition next Monday night. All of us believe the safety and well-being of Children is important. Every child has the right to be loved, safe and looked after, and when more than 1 child is forced into sex slavery and/or trafficking every minute, it is up to people like us to take action to help them in whatever way we can. It is unthinkable that children will live their lives like this, but there is something you, and I can do to help these innocent children have a second chance for a safe life where they are loved, and well looked after. On the 3rd July, my good friend John Templeton will be running a 42km marathon wearing a 9kg weighted vest to raise money for Project Rescue Children. It costs $500 to rescue one child from this horrible life, and John has a goal to rescue 40 children totalling $20,000. I have already donated $500, and really, when you think about it, it's a drop in our first world ocean when we consider the difference such a small amount of money can make to these children's lives. For perspective; it's equivalent to what you may be spending for Valentine's Day between flowers, gifts and a dinner out. A Knight does not stand for injustice, and this is injustice in its most reprehensible form. This is your opportunity to make a REAL difference and save a child from a life of sexual, emotional and physical abuse. John has $15,000 more to raise - let's get it done together, for the children on Monday night.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On February 16, 2020, I wrote an article titled: Pull Your Head out of the Sand - Something's Gotta Give. The first paragraph opened as follows: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, ..." so goes the famous opening line by Charles Dickens in March 1869. That line from A Tale of Two Cities perfectly captures where we find ourselves today. Its time to start thinking about reducing your risk exposure in both your business and investments and prepare to take advantage of various opportunities as they arise. A month later the S&P 500 collapsed just over 33%. No one can call the timing of any collapse but in this case the writing was on the wall.Today we are in the midst of a V shaped recovery, with the market as of June 18th, recovering just over 30%. Yet there exists almost as much uncertainty in what the future holds as we noted back in February. Should we be jumping on the exuberant momentum or derisking our portfolios and heeding Warren Buffet's wisdom "We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when other are fearful". Thane Stenner, Managing Director of the StennerZhony Group, part of Morgan Stanley's Wealth Division and Chairman Emeritus of TIGER21 joins us in our The Way Forward Webcast Series for a fireside chat on July 17th. The StennerZohny Group has been recognized in Barron's 2020 Top 50 Institutional Investment Consultants ranking #8 in all of North America and #1 in California. Our interactive conversation will focus on providing you with some market insights and confidence on how you should be managing both your wealth creation and preservation during these uncertain times. "To buy when others are despondently selling and sell when others are greedily buying requires the greatest fortitude and pays the greatest reward" as John Templeton is famously quoted. It's a session you won't want to miss as we explore the following:What's happening in the markets and why the dislocation between the real economy? Are we in a "V" shaped recovery or is this really a lazy W with a slow recovery? The importance of having a well diversified asset allocation to ensure you don't lose those hard earned dollars. Why are there so many well-known value investors sitting on the sidelines? Are we in for another market reckoning?
