In this episode, I sit down with Emily Assell, author of the newly released and soon to be released books, When It Hurts and Wherever You Are. Emily's journey is one of faith, freedom, and the undeniable power of God's Word in the middle of life's hardest moments.Emily shares her story of overcoming financial struggles, battling anger, and discovering the transformational power of scripture. From writing Bible verses on the walls of her mother-in-law's basement to seeing strongholds break one step of obedience at a time, Emily's testimony is a reminder that God meets us in our pain and never stops pursuing us.We talk about:✨ The highs and lows of self-publishing and how God opened unexpected doors✨ Trusting God in every circumstance—even when life doesn't look the way we planned✨ How speaking God's Word in faith shifts our perspective and changes everything✨ The power of taking every thought captive and renewing our minds with truth✨ God's heart for His daughters today—His mercy and loving-kindness are always nearNo matter where you are—physically, emotionally, or spiritually—God is with you. His love never stops. His goodness never runs out. And He is calling you deeper into His presence today.Bio:Emily Assell is a bestselling children's book author and speaker. She believes dry shampoo, snacks, and the Word of God can solve almost any parenting problem. She and her husband, Matt, started Generation Claimed in 2017 to self-publish her first book, You Are. A year later, Tyndale House Publishers released the book, which has gone on to sell over twenty-five thousand copies. When not writing, Emily homeschools her three children, volunteers at Love Moves.Us (a nonprofit for foster and adoptive children and families), or gets lost reading someone else's book. Emily has spoken at many parenting conferences, schools, mothers' groups, and special events, and she has been a featured guest on multiple podcasts, teaching and encouraging all ages about the power of God's Word. But don't worry, her three kids are her own personal slang dictionary and keep her down-to-earth despite her best efforts to be cool.Anchor Verse:Psalm 138:8Connect with Emily:Website: https://www.generationclaimed.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/generationclaimedLinktree: https://linktr.ee/generationclaimed***We're thrilled to hear from our listeners! Living with unmet longings often feels like suffering. Rachel Miller knows, from experience, that our longings confront us with an opportunity to struggle toward God and community, rather than away from them. Her latest book is When It Hurts to Hope: Honest Conversations about Living with Unmet Longing. She joins us this week to talk about wrestling with longings and desires, and correcting the bad theology that worsens our suffering. Rachel's Website When It Hurts to Hope, Honest Conversations About Living with Unmet Longing by Rachel Miller The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan The Midnight Library by Matt Haig Emma by Jane Austen As Christians, we're called to love God with all our minds, and be transformed by the renewal of our minds. Without a mind that's shaped by God's Word, we'll struggle to champion the truth, beauty, and goodness of God's Kingdom in this time and place. To address this problem, Michael Craven, Vice President of Equipping and Mobilization at the Colson Center has written a brand-new, free e-book called The Christian Mind: Its Necessity to Christian Relevance and Renewal. It's a primer on developing a thoroughly Christian mind for the sake of the Kingdom. If you want a more robust faith that actually shapes how you live in the world today, or if you're wondering why cultivating a Christian mind really matters, you should read this book. You can grab your free copy by going to colsoncenter.org/book. Strong Women listeners, the Colson Center is accepting applications for the Colson Fellows program Class of ‘25, until June 30th. This flagship program takes participants on a ten-month journey into the study of the Christian life and worldview. Why? Because Christians need to understand the entire biblical story so we can properly order our lives and the world around us in a way that rightly relates to us God, self, others, and creation. You can expect to deepen your relationship with Christ, gain clarity in your calling, develop practical skills and wisdom, and join a powerful network of commissioned Colson Fellows around the globe. Ultimately, you'll be equipped to make an impact for God's Kingdom right where he has placed you. To learn more and apply before the June 30th deadline, go to www.colsonfellows.org. Rachel shares her powerful journey of breaking free from legalism and fundamentalism within the FLDS cult and finding hope and healing in the midst of pain and longing. Growing up with a skewed perspective of God as angry and judgmental due to the environment of legalism and fundamentalism, Rachel struggled with performance-based behavior throughout her childhood. However, as a young adult and in college, she experienced a transformative encounter with God, breaking free from the chains of legalism. Rachel reflects on her journey out of the FLDS cult and how God used her heartbreak to change her perspective and bring her freedom. I had always been into fitness and enjoyed being active throughout my whole childhood. I was involved in Martial Arts, Wrestling and Football throughout high school and was generally a very physical person.I have been in the field for 26+ years and plan to stay here for many more. While I always enjoyed my work and was successful with it, I was not as passionate then as I am now. The passion didn't come until much later. The passion came through the most painful loss I have ever experienced…the death of my mother. It was my mother's life: her sacrifices, support and guidance that made me the man I am today. It was her death that birthed a passion in me. After I lost my mother, I had a renewed sense of purpose; I vowed that I would make her proud. It was during this painful season that I realized that I was put here to help others, to guide others to be their best selves, and to continue striving to be my best too.My parents were always an anchor for me. They raised my siblings and I to be the best we could be, instilling a deep faith and the principles of Respect, Love and Discipline; principles that I apply to everything I do even to this day. After my mother's death, my father became a beacon for me. He demonstrated a great strength even through great tragedy. He inspires me to push through the pain and grow stronger through difficult situations.Since then, I redefined my purpose. I became more passionate about helping others to reach their goals, but even more I longed to help them evolve into their best selves. I work with clients to help them move forward towards their future instead of dwelling on the past. One of my favorite analogies of this evolution is when a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. After the butterfly emerges from the cocoon, he never goes back to being a caterpillar. Once you start living as your true self and growing into your best self, you don't go back to who you used to be.Since this awakening, my path has led me towards many great career opportunities. I have worked as a Spartan SGX trainer and had the incredible honor of giving motivational speeches at Spartan and Battlefrog events along with at the OCR World Championships. I have spoken to groups of first responders and to youth at schools. When I speak, I do not write a script, I speak from the heart and in the moment. My hope with each motivational speech is that I connect to the hearts of the audience, that they will be able to feel my energy and passion and that it will ignite something inside of them too! I view every speaking opportunity as an honor and an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. As far as training goes, I have developed my own unique style that represents who I am as a fitness coach. I have built the foundation for my training on my years of experience with various approaches. My training sessions are all about functional movement, but I am constantly changing things up to keep my clients interested and challenged. This style is not for everyone, but those who want to be pushed and who want to become mentally tough as well as physically strong love my combination of movements and motivation.Ultimately it has been the painful situations in my life that have grown me the most. It is because of my loss and my struggles that I have become who I am today.Who am I?I am confident.I am humble.I am hungry.I am eager.I am ambitious.I am hard-working.I am willing to do what it takes.I am Coach Pain.MY EXPERIENCEI have over 26 years of experience in the fitness industry and as a motivational speaker. Some of my professional accomplishments include: Motivational Speaker Fitness Coach Nutrition Specialist NPC 2011 Midwest Ironman Physique American Ninja Warrior Participant – 2011, 2012 Jeet Kune Do & Wrestling Background (12 years) Naval Special Warface Orientation Course Instructor Announcer and Motivational Speaker For Spartan Race and BattleFrong Series

You see, I believe that it is through difficult situations and great pain that the human spirit grows and character is developed. And my story is a testament to this.I started in the fitness industry when I was only 18 years old, and I knew that it was where I belonged.

Transcript – Discipline Motivational Speech | Fearless Motivation Life can be brutal Life can be unforgiving. If i had to sum up in 1 word the difference between the greats and the average. The difference between the successful and the nobodies of the world. 1 word. 1 attribute to describe the difference… DISCIPLINE. If you don't have the discipline You can forget about the trophy. You can forget about the success, the greatness. ALL CHAMPIONS HAVE DISCIPLINE. It's the discipline to work hard… You know – NOT when everyone is watching. But when no one is watching. When the fans aren't there. When the coach isn't there. When it's just you and your character. The discipline to eat strong healthy foods, when you have other tempting options. When those around you might not be so strong. The discipline to KEEP going WHEN IT HURTS. Because LIFE doesn't give you what you want. It gives you what you deserve. And if you haven't worked for it. If you haven't sacrificed for it. If you haven't given your all. Then – you don't deserve it. AND, you WON'T GET IT Push through the pain. On the other side is growth When pain comes, that means it's time to show character! SHOW ME YOUR CHARACTER! Remain disciplined. STAY STRONG! When it all seems hopeless: Keep plugging away When it gets painful. PUSH HARDER. PUSH THROUGH THE PAIN. You gotta have the discipline to do 11, when your opponent stops at 10. The discipline to KEEP going WHEN IT HURTS. Because LIFE doesn't give you what you want. It gives you what you deserve. And if you haven't worked for it. If you haven't sacrificed for it. If you haven't given your all. Then – you don't deserve it. AND, you WON'T GET IT SHOW YOUR CHARACTER! Remain disciplined. STAY STRONG! Don't say why the pain. Don't say WHY ME Say TRY ME! Say “Is that all you've got ?!” Give me more! This Sunday we explore further the conversations on suffering in the series "When It Hurts". Margret shares how our hearts can be made either better or bitter by suffering. How we can be stronger at the end of a season of suffering. God may not always take our pain away, but he sure promises to be there with us through it all.
Teacher: Jerry Wierwille “Worship” is a common word that is often thrown around in Christianity. But what few people realize is that there is a lot more to worshipping God than prayer, going to church, and singing praise. A large and overlooked part of worship involves sacrifice. Part of our worship is giving up things that hinder us from picking up our cross and following Jesus—becoming a disciple is an act of worship because a life of following Jesus consists of a life of sacrifice. In this teaching, “When It Hurts to Bend the Knee,” Jerry Wierwille lays out a dimension of worshipping God that cuts to the very heart of the Christian faith: worship involves sacrifice. Worship is about obeying God even when we don’t feel like it or want to. Being a follower of Christ means that we must forsake ourselves and follow him, no matter the cost.
