For more, head over to: www.franexcell.com/   Why You Aren't Doing What You Want To?   There are probably a bazillion little reasons why you aren't doing what you want to in your business or your life...or perhaps you feel like it's just one big kahuna of a reason.     Either way, I'm going to go through a few of the most common reasons I see in the hope that it may make you think slightly differently and perhaps even make you realise how gloriously capable you are of doing the thing you want to do!   Whether you want to scale your business to a particular income level, start a business from scratch or even just believe that you can be doing something that you actually enjoy instead of being ‘trapped' by the rat race that doesn't really suit you anymore.     There will be tonnes of stories your brain and your nervous system will be telling you around why it's not possible.   We're fed (or brainwashed, whichever way you want to look at it ha!) so many messages of you go to school, you get qualifications, you get a job, you work your way up, you retire, you die.   You learn to validate yourself by your job title or salary.  I fell into it too!  But, I remember being 26 years old in a really successful career in media and advertising thinking to myself.   There must be more.  I know I'm capable of more.  The truth was I'd got to a great position, was respected in my profession and by my bosses, all good.  But there was a sense of just not doing anything ‘meaningful'.  I'd stopped feeling that sense of achievement or purpose.  I'd ticked a lot of the boxes.   But it took me to my 30s and through a little anxiety ridden existential crisis to figure it out.  Mainly because I was telling myself so many things that weren't true, but accepting them as truth.   Plus, I didn't know anyone who had their own business, I'll talk more on that in a minute.  It felt like an impossible hill to climb in terms of even having a clue where to start.    The biggest message running round my head was that it's highly unlikely that you're going to love what you do, almost like you're not supposed to. The work to live vs live to work mentality.That was only reserved for people who'd been born into wealth.  Not for us muggles.     The next message was that even if you do end up doing something you love, you'll pay for it in terms of ability to earn good money.   So the ONLY way to do what you love, was to in my mind, struggle for money.  Then you're trying to balance different levels of happiness.   Which one is less painful, more financial freedom to do what you love in your spare time, or do what you love and NOT be able to do what you want in your spare time because you can't afford it.   There's also the live for the weekend and wait for retirement mentality that's rife through society.   If these are running in your noggin as truth, and we're all run by our unconscious programming 95-99% of the time...you can see how that's never going to change, right?   BUT...so many people have that little niggle in the back of their minds about what they'd love to do...quickly followed by all the reasons they can't.   Write a book, work for yourself, have an income you could never dream of achieving in a corporate job, to not be stressed and overwhelmed all the time, to actually HAVE time and freedom to choose what you do with.     What is that ‘thing' for you.  What's that ‘niggle'?   Whether you've started your business or not.  What's that thing that if you weren't ruled by paying the bills (and your stories around that), or if you knew you couldn't fail, that you would LOVE to be doing?   Now we've got that...i'm going to give you some of the biggest reasons so many people DON'T go after it, if what i've already said isn't reason enough ha!   One of the biggest reasons is you genuinely don't think it's possible for YOU.  What I'd love for you to do is grab a journal and start to draw out those stories.     What makes you think that's true?  Why NOT you? What makes you believe THOSE things that come up? Who's beliefs are they really?  Yours?  Someone else's?  Based on how you were brought up, or what a teacher said to you?  Or the strong opinion of a parent or sibling?  What is the reason you believe it's possible for other people but not YOU?   That leads me nicely onto the next biggie.  Your friends and family's opinion.  Ohhhhhhh this is a big one.  The number one way people often find me is often through an episode I did called ‘why your friends and family don't support your business'.     I know from google search stats and analytics this is HUGE.  It's SO common.  If you want to go deeper into this one go have a listen to that episode.     But essentially, what was modelled for you growing up in terms of doing something you love?     You'll often find with a lot of entrepreneurs that their parents, or someone in their family ran a business, or someone they were close to.     For those that weren't modelled that, you usually have to break through a few unconscious beliefs first, but that's totally normal.     It's about creating awareness around what was modelled and what was taught to you about the way things ‘should' be with regards to earning an income.     What was ‘prized' by your primary care givers.  What did they value? What did THEIR parents value? It's not about being right or wrong, good or bad, most of us just don't really know we can challenge these ideals for ourselves as adults because it's unconscious...but you know now :-)    Next, what's modelled for you now?  Are you around people who own their own businesses?  Or are working their way towards it?   It's SO fundamental to have people who are working towards the same goal, or have already achieved what you want.  It's giving your brain and nervous system the evidence that it's possible AND that it's safe! Plus it gives you motivation and encouragement to keep going.  It's hard to just muster that for yourself!   That leads me nicely onto the next reason...You just haven't had the hard and fast, brain can't argue with you evidence that it's possible.  You need that.  Don't underestimate the importance of it. Seek it as much as possible.  Join groups, memberships, communities, go to events.   Your self esteem and the stories you tell yourself, about yourself.What are they.  We touched on this already but it's worth repeating. What are the reasons you're telling yourself you can't have it?  They may be surface level reasons, but they could be a lot deeper than that.  Self sabotage is a biggie!   Next up is that you don't know where to start.  This is the more surface level reason, but a powerful one nonetheless! I mean...there's a LOT to take in and a lot of different messages that can just leave you in a state of confusion.  TOTALLY understandable. It's about finding that person that has done or is doing what you want to do and learn from them.  Step by step.  Do this, do that!   And lastly for today, you might actually just don't want to do the work that's required to get it.  AND...guess what...that's ok!     There's a BIG difference between telling yourself you can't do something because there's something inherent in you that means it's not possible vs not actually wanting to do the work.     BUT there is a very different emotional charge from ‘I can't do it because I'm not capable and I feel guilt and shame about that' to ‘I'd love that but I can't be bothered to be honest.' So just be honest with yourself.     Also check that your story about the work that's required is true.     Check that there's not another way, stay curious about the possibility that comes with ‘how can I' vs ‘I can't' It's always going to require one or the other of time or money.  Usually a bit of both. But this is one of the reasons I think it's far more sensible and easier on the noggin to start your business, alongside your job and look at your job as your venture capital investor.    But so many of these aren't true.  They aren't reality. Outline of This Episode [2:22] Do you understand reverse mortgages? [8:26] Will you be taking a 20% cut on social security? [12:46] Get retirement ready with my favorite retirement podcasts Do you find reverse mortgages confusing? I’m sure you’ve seen the ads for reverse mortgages before, but do you really know what they are? A study done on a focus group showed that most people thought reverse mortgages were a government welfare program. They didn’t realize that there were interest and fees involved and many thought that with a reverse mortgage they wouldn’t have to pay any more property taxes. Do you have questions about reverse mortgages? What exactly is a reverse mortgage? Commonly known as a reverse mortgage, a Home Equity Credit Mortgage (HECM) is just like any other mortgage -- it has to be paid back. Reverse mortgages are sometimes taken on by people in retirement who are looking for a lifetime income.  A reverse mortgage works when the HECM calculates half of your home equity value and they set up a lifetime annuity based on that amount. Reverse mortgages can be complicated, so if you are considering one, make sure you read all the fine print. I am thrilled to be out of Scottsdale for most of August, vacationing in California, Missouri and spending lots of time on a boat, with my favorite people, my family and close friends. The best thing is that I did not have to ask any one for time off, or get the amount of time approved. My business and income has not skipped a beat because so much of my business is automated. Over 25 years ago, I launched my first network marketing business with the desire to create time and lifestyle freedom. I struggled TERRIBLY in the beginning. Can you relate? Are you in the struggle? I hated selling, because I did not understand what selling really is. Most people aren’t selling because they have an obstacle to selling. Even as you are hearing this, you probably have some negative thoughts and feelings coming up. Why is that? I want you to really think about that for a minute and come up with your answer around why you feel this negativity. We do we often lead with so much resistance to sales? This is why we aren’t selling more in Network Marketing.  And, as you listen, be thinking about how many people you are actually sharing your offer with versus just thinking about it in your head and making stuff up.  You know what I mean right? We make that list; we look around the room; we get out on facebook and we talk ourselves out of talking to anyone because of our fear of “selling.” We have major head drama going on. We’ll cover: The “Selling” Elephant in the Room Head Drama Around Sales Selling is Coaching Challenges and Solutions Successful Selling Language Follow Up The Selling Elephant in the Room This is your biggest obstacle and quite frankly, it’s the way you think about and process your thoughts around selling. And, the way you think about the person you are wanting to sell to. In network marketing, we sell two things - products/services and our opportunity. And, most of us don’t come from a sales background.  We have fear around the word sales - probably why you are listening now. Pushy, Aggressive, Manipulative, “Getting” People to do something they don’t want to do. When you think of sales people, what image do you see? And, does it scare you to think of becoming that person? That is some major - Head Drama. So, here is a tip - DON’T. Just don’t become that person, because you don’t have to. And, you shouldn’t. It won’t serve you or your clients.  We buy from people we like; we believe and we trust. Focus on becoming that person in each scenario. The way to move from a fear of sales is only done by changing your thoughts and feelings around sales. Remember the coaching model - CTFAR Circumstance - Thoughts - Feelings - Actions - Results  The circumstance is this - you MUST sell to achieve what you want. So, let’s unpack your thoughts, feelings, actions and results around sales. You may have the thought - selling is slimy, manipulative, scary, coercion. What comes up for you? Let’s change that thought and see what happens. We must create some income producing BELIEFS around sales, yourself and what you are selling. Selling is Coaching Sales is the highest paid profession. Have you ever driven around high dollar neighborhoods and wondered what the people do for a living who live there? Very often, many of them are in sales. Imagine how different things would be for you if you began to see selling as just a simple coaching process; because that is exactly what it is. So, let’s change how you see sales. And, change is hard. It’s hard to even change our perceptions about something - like selling. You have to work hard to change your belief system.  When you think of simply coaching someone through the decision and sales process, doesn’t that FEEL a whole lot better? Your goal is to coach someone to the solution, outcome and transformation they are looking for. This starts with you asking questions to dive into what their desire actually is. Understanding why they will buy is more important than you understanding “how to sell.” Challenges and Solutions What is the challenge your potential client has? What is the outcome they desire? What are the objections they have? This is where the question piece become so important. On both offers - product and opportunity.  What are the most common challenges your potential clients have and what is the most common desired outcome?  Do you offer the solution or desired outcome? Have you had a personal experience with this? Who do you know in your company, maybe even you, who has had a life changing experience with either the product/service or the opportunity? What do you know about their journey?  As we look at sales as coaching, you can ask questions and coach them through the process of sharing their desired outcome or transformation with you. Then, you can calmly and with no hype, share stories of transformation that match The transformation they are looking for. How would you feel if you helped coach them to the transformation they want? An important thing to remember is to not confuse your desired outcome with theirs. Or try to project it onto them. Especially the opportunity piece. Successful Selling Language Most network marketers totally blow the communication piece of selling their offer. In anything we do, we are actually offering transformation. Transformation of some kind. Product, service, opportunity. Is it weight loss? Maybe but so much more. How will they FEEL losing the weight? What all will change? Back to the desired outcome - what does it take to achieve the outcome desired with either of your offers? Let’s take the opportunity - imagine getting someone started on the path to life transformation. What if they could leave their job? Fund retirement? Pay off debt?  What might that feel like? For them or you? What might they learn along the journey to success? It’s going to take some trial and error. A willingness to be uncomfortable as you develop this part of your business. However, when you always approach everything with a giver’s mentality - how can I provide the most value to this person -  Follow Up Give them the space to figure out what’s possible for them; and make sure you are asking them to join you; to start the transformation they want. You can’t save another person or want it more for them than they want themselves. Some will say yes right away and most will not. With effective follow up, you will convert more and more to a yes. Know the sales stats - 85% of all sales happen between the 5th and 12th exposure. Are you willing to check in that many times, to offer them the transformation they are seeking? Imagine how many more people you will coach to success and how that will affect your own success. Always be using good success language and be painting word pictures and the vision of what is possible if they simply step into it and commit. Remember this - you will attract people from the mindset where you are. Who you attract comes from your thoughts and beliefs. I encourage you to begin recording yourself when you talk to people. Or, record yourself as you THINK you will talk to people and what you will say. Listen, write it down, script it out and review it. Evaluate it from the perspective of your potential client. How does it sound? does it fit any of the sales language that scares you? Hypey, Salesy? Manipulative? Believable or unbelievable?  Also, evaluate the questions you get; and the reaction from others. What objections and questions do they have. How can you incorporate this into your success language and offer it as you are having your conversations? She sold a service to real estate agents, the market hardest hit by the recession. Within five years and against all odds, Odette’s brainchild grew to seven figures. Today Odette helps entrepreneurs achieve their lifetime dreams through the vehicle of entrepreneurship. But it hasn’t always been easy. In her first year as a business coach, Odette lost her love relationship, both her parents passed away and she woke up one morning paralyzed in her arms. She couldn’t move them properly for more than a year.
