POPULARITY
A CLASSIC ROCKER FINDS OUT HE HAS A LOVE CHILD FROM THE 80's, some insane Movies announced and A wild list of celebrities and how they caught their significant others cheating… it's like celebs are just like us guys!CRAP ON FRIDAY Rick Moranis has been gone way too long. Even those new "Ghostbusters" movies didn't lure him back to Hollywood. But I am quite excited to announce that he WILL return to once again play Dark Helmet in "Spaceballs 2"!!! Bill Pullman will return as the hero Lone Starr, too. And Mel Brooks will be back as Yogurt . . . and, presumably . . . President Skroob. (He played both characters in the original.) Josh Gad co-wrote the script, and he's expected to be in it, too. Pullman's son Lewis Pullman has also been cast, along with Keke Palmer . . . but there's no word who they're playing. There's also no word on any other returning cast members. Obviously, John Candy, Joan Rivers, and Dick Van Patten won't be back, since they're no longer with us. Mel released the first teaser yesterday. There's no footage, since filming hasn't begun yet. It starts with a text crawl that makes fun of all the "Star Wars" prequels, sequels, sequels to the prequels, prequels to the sequels, and TV spin-offs. Then it lists all the "Dune", "Jurassic Park", "Avatar", and Marvel movies, plus DC's TWO attempts to start a cinematic universe . . . and just about every other overdone franchise you can name. Then, after a quick appearance from Mel, we get a shot of Rick Moranis' cracked helmet, and the tagline: "The Schwartz Awakens in 2027." Which sounds like a possible title but it's spaceballs and mel brooks so it could be anything. Here is Mel making his announcement. Jerry Seinfeld Proposes ‘Live-Action Sequel' to 'Bee Movie'Jerry Seinfeld has people buzzin' with this idea! The comedic genius posted about the possibility of a “live-action sequel” to his 2007 animated hit Bee Movie.“Bee Movie, which came out nearly 20 years ago, is #4 on Netflix,” he wrote on Instagram showing a hand holding a tennis ball with a honey bee on it. The next slide was the movie's poster, an image of Seinfeld's character Barry B. Benson similarly straddling a tennis ball.“Today, my friend Spike Feresten, one of the writers on the film, was playing tennis and this happened."He continued, “Clearly a sign. Time for a live-action sequel..?" DreamWorks' Bee Movie, which Seinfeld produced, co-wrote, and starred in along with Renée Zellweger, has become a cult favorite since its release.Bee Movie also featured the voices of Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Chris Rock, Kathy Bates, Megan Mullally, Oprah Winfrey, and several celebrities appearing as animated versions of themselves, including Larry King, Ray Liotta, and Sting.Saint Louis' own Nelly and Ashanti are putting their lives on TV for all to see. They announced an upcoming reality show called Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together.A show synopsis says Nelly and Ashanti "rekindle their love, navigate the ups and downs of being newlyweds and new parents, and juggle their careers."The eight-episode series will air on Peacock starting June 26th.A DNA Test Connects Billy Idol To A Son He Didn't Know He HadDetails on the lovechild Billy Idol didn't know he had until a few years ago have surfaced.Idol's daughter, Bonnie, shared in the new doc, 'Billy Idol Should Be Dead', "My husband just surprised me with a DNA test as a Christmas present [a few years ago]. Then a few weeks later, I get the results back on the app and open it and I'm like, who is this? This Brant. His info reads, 'New York, 1985, looking for my biological dad.' I was like, ‘What?'"Brant, Idol's lovechild, grew up believing his dad was someone else until a different DNA questioned his mother's claims about his father. After confronting his mom, she told Brant, "Well, it's pretty crazy, but back in the day, we broke up and I actually spent a weekend with Billy Idol."Fans have done the math and calculate that Brant was conceived during Idol's wildly successful 1984 'Rebel Yell' tour.Idol has whole-heartedly accepted Brant as family, saying, "I really enjoyed being a dad. I always wanted a boy and a girl, and I finagled my way into a boy and a girl. I actually had a son that I didn't realize, who I fathered on the Rebel Yell tour without knowing it. So I somehow finagled this as well."Brant was at Idol's Walk of Fame ceremony back in 2023.Prime Video Will Soon Show Double The AdsAmazon Prime Video is about to double the number of commercials shown per hour on its ad-supported membership level. An Adweek report got the news from an Amazon spokesperson about the amount of commercials going to "four to six minutes per hour" from the two to three minutes that Prime users are used to. In 2024, subscribers who had ad-free access were forced to pay an extra $3 a month to maintain the status. Jay-Z Loses $1 Million NBA Finals Bet Jay-Z is out $1 million after losing a bet on the NBA Finals. Jay placed a bet prior to the series, banking on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the championship in five games. After Wednesday night's Thunder loss to the Indiana Pacers, OKC can't win the series unless they do it in six or seven games. Jay-Z would have won $3.5 million if the bet had cashed in. With a net worth of $2.5 billion, we're sure Jay-Z will be alright. Ok you guys remember Spinal Tap? The Album cover debate with the label and why it became an all black cover or as Nigel would say NONE MORE BLACK? It was because the original had a woman on all fours with a dog leash on and it was deemed sexist…. To which Nigel replies “Whats wrong with being sexy? Well get this, Sabrina Carpenter announced her new album yesterday, and it's causing a lot of controversy. It's called "Man's Best Friend", and the cover has Sabrina on all fours, in front of a man who's pulling a handful of her hair. A women's advocacy group in Scotland called it "regressive", saying it reduces women to, quote, "pets, props, and possessions," and promotes "an element of violence and control." Sabrina's fans are defending it as SATIRE, and a commentary on how badly women are treated. And some are pointing out that the first single, "Manchild", actually makes FUN of men. HERE IS A CLIP OF THATMeanwhile, in the new "Rolling Stone" cover story, Sabrina talks about being criticized for the sexual imagery in her stage show. She says, quote "It's always so funny to me when people complain. They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it." She adds, quote, "I truly feel like I've never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity. I'm not just talking about me. I'm talking about every female artist that is making art right now." Pope Leo isn't even the most famous guy in his family. The "New York Times" researched his family tree, and found out that he's related to a bunch of celebrities. The link is an ancestor from about six generations back. He name was Louis Boucher de Grandpre, and he was born in Quebec. And because of him, Leo is distant cousins with Justin Bieber, Justin Trudeau, Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Jack Kerouac, and Madonna. It's interesting that Leo would be related to Madonna, given that the Catholic Church has condemned her several times . . . most famously when she released her "Like a Prayer" video in 1989. A few years ago, Madonna reached out to Pope Francis, asking to meet with him to discuss "important matters." She told him, quote, "I've been ex-communicated 3 times. It doesn't seem fair." If you've ever wondered how the creators of "Friends" came up with the character of Joey Tribbiani . . . we might just have the answer this morning. Joey Lawrence claims Matt LeBlanc's character was based on HIS character Joey Russo from "Blossom". Lawrence says, quote, "Joey Russo was so successful that when they were creating 'Friends', they wanted a 25-year-old version of that." Supposedly, Matt's character wasn't even originally called Joey, but they changed it because the "Blossom" character was so successful. Joey even claims that Matt was sent to tapings of "Blossom" where he would, quote, "sit up in the audience with a yellow notepad and take notes on how I portrayed Joey Russo." He says they wanted Matt to bring the "innocence" of Joey Russo to Joey Tribbiani, so the character could, quote, "get away with his womanizing." I guess the Grammys were sick of hearing about whether Beyoncé deserved to win Best Country Album for "Cowboy Carter". So, they just announced a major change. For next year's Grammys, the award formally known as Best Country Album will now be called Best Contemporary Country Album . . . and they will also be adding a new category: Best Traditional Country Album. There's a lot to unpack here. And one year after Beyoncé wins makes the timing of this all the more clickbait-y. According to the Grammy website, "traditional country music", quote, "adheres to the more traditional sound structures of the country genre, including rhythm and singing style, lyrical content, as well as traditional country instrumentation such as acoustic guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, piano, and live drums." Where "contemporary country music", quote, "remains reminiscent and relevant to the legacy of country music's culture, while also engaging in more contemporary music forms." Someone tweeted, "Morgan Wallen and Post Malone better not be in the traditional country category at the Grammys, because in what world are they traditional country?" Wait, hold up. When Morgan collaborated with Alvin and the Chipmunks, that wasn't traditional country??New in Theaters: "How to Train Your Dragon", "Materialists", and "The Life of Chuck" There's nothing like a good breakup story. Here are seven times a celebrity found out their partner was cheating in an unconventional way: 1. Demi Moore learned that Ashton Kutcher was having an affair in 2011, from a Google Alert. When she called him on it, he admitted it right away. Her response was, quote, "Are you [effing] kidding me?" 2. Britney Spears started dating lawyer David Lucado in 2012. But in 2014, her father found out there was paparazzi footage of David kissing another woman. He bought it to prevent it from being released, and Britney broke it off. 3. Kourtney Kardashian dumped Scott Disick in 2008, after finding texts on his phone from a contact called, quote, "my wife." They did the on-and-off thing until 2015, when photos emerged of Scott with another woman in France. 4. Elizabeth Hurley found out Hugh Grant was cheating on her in 1995, when he got arrested for GETTING IT ON with Sunset Boulevard prostitute Divine Brown in his car. They didn't break up until 2000, and they're still friends. 5. Laura Dern found out Billy Bob Thornton was being unfaithful when the news broke that he had ELOPED with Angelina Jolie in 2000. She was away making a movie, and she never saw it coming. 6. Eva Longoria's marriage to NBA star Tony Parker ended in 2010, after she found inappropriate texts with another woman on his phone. 7. This one's ancient history, but it was a HUGE tabloid story back in the day: In 1958, actress Debbie Reynolds was missing her husband, Eddie Fisher, because he was supposedly away on tour. So she decided to give her friend Elizabeth Taylor a call . . . and who answered Liz's phone? Eddie FREAKIN' Fisher. (!!!) Eddie left Debbie and married Liz, but that only lasted five years.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Houston Rockets will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night for a huge interconference matchup, as the Cavaliers sit atop the Eastern Conference with a 36-6 record. The Rockets are coming off Monday's 107-96 loss to the Detroit Pistons. Cade Cunningham recorded 32 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. While the Pistons committed 23 turnovers, they were able to force the Rockets into 17 turnovers and convert it into 19 points. "We felt like we woke up a little bit late, coming off the west coast trip, early game, all those things. Bottom line was they outplayed us, out-hustled us, were more aggressive, and that has rarely happened this year, so looking forward to getting back to who we are tonight," Rockets head coach Ime Udoka said. Despite balanced scoring, the Rockets shot 39% and struggled from beyond the arc, making 11 of 39. "It was a rare off night for a lot of people. And then once our defense did settle down, we just didn't score at the rate that we needed to," Udoka said. The Rockets will look to return to the win column against a dominant Cavaliers team, led by Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland. "They present a lot of challenges and have a lot of balance." With Cavaliers center Evan Mobley ruled out of Wednesday's game, Alperen Sengun has an opportunity to improve upon his latest offensive struggles. "We invite the double teams that he attracts to garner a bunch of free shots for everybody else. But when they do guard you one-on-one, go make them pay," Udoka said. After Wednesday's contest, the Rockets will begin a four-game road trip that includes a back-to-back following the rescheduling of a game against the Atlanta Hawks. "I don't mind the road schedule at all. I think it builds character and toughness. We've obviously done a much better job this year than last year," Udoka said. The Rockets are currently 14-7 in road games so far this season.

Welcome to Top of the Morning by Mint, your weekday newscast that brings you five major stories from the world of business. It's Friday, May 17, 2024. My name is Nelson John. Let's get started:After Wednesday's fall, the Indian benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex rose by nearly one percent on Thursday. While the Sensex climbed 670 points, the Nifty surged by more than 200 points. As we edge closer to the final phase of the Lok Sabha election, there's a clear divide between domestic and foreign investors' market play, especially in their bets on Nifty derivatives. Retail and wealthy investors, usually called 'clients' on NSE, are really bullish right now. They believe the ruling NDA coalition is heading for a big win, and have ramped up their bullish positions on Nifty futures to the highest levels since November 2. On the flip side, Foreign Portfolio Investors are treading cautiously. Maybe they're sensing a potential upset because they've gone and hedged their massive $794-billion portfolio of Indian stocks by taking on a hefty amount of bearish index futures. It's their highest level of bearish bets since, well, the same date as the domestic bulls. Mint's markets correspondent Ram Sahgal brings the latest on how the markets are reacting to the national election. The Supreme Court recently made a big decision: lawyers are now exempt from the Consumer Protection Act. This change could pave the way for doctors to get a similar exemption. So what does this mean for you when you need to complain about poor service? Mint's senior editor N Madhavan explains in today's Primer. On 14 May, the Supreme Court said that legal services are unique and don't fall under the Consumer Protection Act. It pointed out that the law never intended to include professionals like lawyers and doctors. Instead, these professionals are regulated by their own bodies, like the Bar Council of India or the Indian Medical Association. Here's where it gets interesting. The Supreme Court also hinted that it might reconsider its 1996 ruling that brought doctors under the Consumer Protection Act. This could mean doctors might also be exempted soon. The biggest sovereign wealth fund in the world - Norway's Norges Bank Investment Management has blacklisted billionaire Gautam Adani's Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, or APSEZ. The fund, which has $1.63 trillion in assets under management, blacklisted the firm citing unacceptable risk related to “serious violations of individuals' rights in situations of war or conflict.” Adani Ports became the 16th Indian company to be on its exclusion list. The Adani Group company acquired Israel's Haifa port in 2022. However, it is unclear whether the $1.15 billion acquisition is the reason behind the blacklisting. APSEZ, which owns 14 ports globally, handles a significant portion of India's cargo. Norges Bank, which owns 1.5% of the world's listed companies, had a 0.24% stake in Adani Ports as of December. Mint's Varun Sood reports on the decision by the sovereign wealth fund, which has shares in over 300 Indian companies. Its Exclusion List now includes 192 companies, with 16 from India. The fund avoids investing in companies involved in tobacco, coal, nuclear weapons, and those violating international conduct rules. For instance, it blacklisted ITC Ltd in 2010. NTPC and Coal India Ltd have also faced exclusion. Former Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte has recently been quite busy in the stock market. Over the past month, he's sold Wipro shares worth 34.5 crore rupees, bringing his total earnings from share sales since stepping down on 6 April to a hefty sum of 70 crore 63 lakh rupees, or about 8.5 million dollars. And that's on top of the 36 crore rupee cash payment Wipro offered him as a parting gift. It's not clear if Wipro allowed Delaporte to accelerate the vesting of his employee stock options or if he just cashed in on the shares he already had. Mint's Varun Sood and Jas Bardia report on the development. The 2024 Lok Sabha election is in full swing. Politicians are leaving no stone unturned to have their voices heard by the people. And just as with everything in 2024, AI has entered the political game as well. Political parties are using AI to evoke all kinds of emotions in voters. For instance, former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa was heard critiquing both the central and state governments in a clip released on her birthday in February. However, the Dravidian leader passed away in 2016. Her voice was recreated using AI as part of the AIADMK's strategy to commemorate Jayalalithaa and galvanise support for its current leader, Edappadi Palaniswami, ahead of the election. The trend of using AI to recreate the voices and images of late politicians has been gaining traction across India. The technology allows parties to forge a personal connection with voters, especially the youth, who are new to the electoral process. Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook are awash with such content, crafted to sway voter sentiment and solidify party loyalties. Mint invited independent journalist Sanghamitra Kar P to write about the latest election tech trend in today's Long Story. We'd love to hear your feedback on this podcast. After Wednesday's heartbreaking overtime loss at home to Portland, the Rockets are just 3-8 in their last 11 games. Is it time to reset expectations after a rough January?Friday's show explores a new sobering reality in Houston, where the Rockets have consistently played below average on both ends of the court since losing Tari Eason to injury. Fortunately, the discussion does find one silver lining in the form of the Nets, who are 2-12 in their last 14 games while boosting Houston's first-round pick outlook in the 2024 NBA draft. As for the Rockets, with a road back-to-back looming in Charlotte and Brooklyn, Ben and Paulo explore where things are going wrong and what changes could help spark short-term turnaround. They also debate the curious case of Eason's leg injury and whether the team erred in judgment with its treatment plan earlier this season.

Consequences for Conspiracy Theories in California, Pennsylvania & Nevada*Correction* I incorrectly noted KRCR as KCRC in my audio. Apologies for the error. Today's Script: (Variations occur with audio due to editing for time) (Today's Links now located below the script) You're listening to the American Democracy Minute, keeping YOUR government by and for the people. We have three follow up stories today from California, Pennsylvania & Nevada on the consequences of disinformation and conspiracy theories.Last week we reported the decision by Shasta County, CA supervisors to spend $950,000 dollars on a new infrastructure to hand count ballots because they didn't trust their Dominion ballot tabulators. The county has 111,000 registered voters. KRCR reports that County Supervisor Kevin Crye, who had sought election advice from MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, was given notice of a recall petition campaign for QUOTE, “…wasting county money and bringing state and nationwide ridicule and embarrassment to the county.”Thursday's story updating investigations in Georgia & Michigan for tampering with, and copying data from, ballot tabulators, didn't mention Fulton County, PA where a judge held the county in civil contempt. The Associated Press reports that two county supervisors gave access to a third party to copy 2020 voting records from Dominion tabulators in an attempt to find evidence of fraudulent voting. After Wednesday's story about harassment leading to the resignation of an entire elections department in Virginia, there's news of a bill in Nevada making it a felony to “threaten to use any force, intimidation, coercion, violence, restraint or undue influence” on any election worker or voter. Updates about LeBron James and his injured foot have come out in drips and drabs, and have almost always been couched in very vague language that promises nothing and leaves only a sort of broad, general impression about what might maybe happen, perhaps with a week left in the season or maybe four days or possibly eight or maybe none.Point being, nobody has been saying anything even a little bit definitive. But perhaps it's still been too definitive for James, who put out his own update on social media, which let folks know what he's been up to and also did the SMH at "sources" out there. Granted, LeBron's update was equally fuzzy as anything else that's been reported, and didn't even really refute anything. So what was the point of putting it out there? Time to read some tea leaves! From there, the length of James's absence, combined with the quality of play from Austin Reaves, has some folks overthinking what might happen when James returns, and how the Lakers might want to handle things. Finally, it's fairly standard operating procedure for players, after they've been traded and especially when they're traded to a marquee franchise like the Lakers, to almost reflexively declare they'd like to be in (insert new city) forever. It may not turn out that way, obviously, but that's how the conversation usually starts. After Wednesday's win over Phoenix, D'Angelo Russell spoke extensively about his maturation as a person and a player, and whether or not he felt "at home" yet with the Lakers. No, he doesn't. Not yet. And it's not hard to understand why. Russell's career arc has been remarkably unstable for a player producing at his level, and he's a reminder of just how much we ask of young athletes, in ways we don't do for 19 and 20 year olds in any other profession.HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: LeBron delivers his own injury update.SEGMENT 2: Should the Lakers be concerned about what happens to the lineup when LeBron comes back?SEGMENT 3: D'Lo's path back to LA hasn't been easy, and you can hardly blame the guy for not assuming he'll be here forever.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. #Lakers #TradeOptions After #PatrickBeverley Trade | Buddy Hield, Myles Turner Lakers Trade Rumors A couple of months ago, a reunion between LeBron James and Kyrie Irving on the Los Angeles Lakers felt a lot more likely than it does today. After Wednesday's news that the Los Angeles Lakers had sent Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson to the Utah Jazz for Patrick Beverley, the Kyrie dream feels dead and buried. Now that the aforementioned statement is out, the Kyrie-to-L.A. train is fully off the rails and Beverley is on his way to L.A., the next focus almost certainly has to be moving Russell Westbrook. Running it back with Russ feels untenable. In 2021-22, the Lakers went 31-47 when the soon-to-be-34-year-old point guard was in the lineup. His inability to space the floor makes him incompatible with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. And perhaps most revealing, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said as recently as last week that L.A. is willing to part with both its 2027 and 2029 first-round picks if it could land them Kyrie. Now that Irving is off the table, where else could the Lakers dangle the "Russ and two first-rounders" package? The three best and most easily foreseeable scenarios (all of which may return more stability than a Kyrie trade anyway) are as follows. The Deal: Myles Turner and Buddy Hield for Russell Westbrook, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2029 first-round pick and a second-round pick In July, the Lakers reportedly engaged with the Indiana Pacers on a deal that almost certainly would've made them better than the rumored Kyrie deals. Replace one of those second-rounders with a first, and the package no longer reeks of desperation, nor does it look so stupid. It's easy to see why Hield and Turner are on the market. They're certainly not old (Hield is 29, while Turner is 26), but they're on a different timeline than 22-year-old Tyrese Haliburton. And since a team led by that trio is far from likely to contend right now, trying to gain some assets for the veterans makes sense. For the Lakers, this is actually the young package of the three detailed here. And if L.A. is thinking at all about life post-LeBron, this is the deal it should pursue. Hield is one of the most prolific three-point shooters of all time (Stephen Curry and Duncan Robinson are the only players in history who exceed both of his marks for three-point attempts per game and three-point percentage). He'd represent a massive improvement on the spacing front. Turner, meanwhile, isn't as accurate, but 34.9 percent from your center should be enough to pull bigs away from the paint. And a defense anchored by him and AD could come close to recapturing the grit of the title-winning 2019-20 team. With both those players in the same age range as 29-year-old AD, you can start to envision the team remaining competitive after LeBron retires (or leaves). So Z Nation, should the Lakers trade Westbrook and 2 first round picks for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner from Indiana Pacers?!?! Or look at other trade options like Utah and New York Knicks trade or maybe look back at the Charlotte Hornets trade?!?! Comments down below

Shocks, such as a pandemic, or a war, usually make things difficult for emerging market currencies. After Wednesday evening's interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve, it traded below R16 against the dollar again yesterday (closing at R16.04/$1). So what can we expect next? * The Economics Minute is supported by the NUWU Business School.
After Wednesday's larger-than-expected inflation number, all attention has turned to the Reserve Bank's meeting on Tuesday. If the bank moves next week, it will be the first time there's been a rise in a campaign since 2007, the election John Howard lost. Pointing to recent rate rises overseas, independent economist Saul Eslake says: “If the Reserve Bank were to do nothing in the face of this much sharper-than-expected acceleration in inflation, it would be leaving itself open to a charge of acting in a political way, which would undermine its credibility for an extended period. "So I think the Reserve Bank really has to raise interest rates at its meeting next week.” If it doesn't, Governor Philip Lowe would require “a very persuasive explanation”. If the bank didn't act next week, it could subsequently have to make a 75 basis points rise in one hit, “which would be a considerable shock to the mortgage-paying population in particular, but I think for small businesses and a whole lot of other participants in Australia's economy more broadly.”
