El nombre de la banda deriva del libro Mientras agonizo (en inglés As I Lay Dying) del autor William Faulkner A pesar de que sus integrantes son seguidores de la doctrina cristiana, la banda no toca temas relacionados con sus creencias religiosas y los integrantes han insistido en que no son una banda de culto cristiano. En mayo de 2013 su líder, Tim Lambesis, fue arrestado por el intento de contratar a un sicario para asesinar a su exmujer Lambesis fue liberado de prisión en libertad condicional en diciembre de 2016. You may Ricky Hoover from his time as the vocalist in the Deathcore band, Suffokate. Ricky spent 2008-2012 with that group, after parting ways Ricky explored the world of hair becoming a barber and opening his own barbershop. However, after a while, the itch to be in a band again became too much and he started his new project Ov Sulfur. The band just released their debut EP, "Oblivion", which even features Tim Lambesis (of AILD) on a track. You can catch Ricky and Ov Sulfur on tour with Carnifex this fall. I review the highlights of my March 2019 Spotify playlist and go into the drama between Dealer and Alpha Wolf. I then talk with Joshy Singer, the vocalist of Blessing A Curse, about the return of Tim Lambesis and As I Lay Dying (10:42). We also talk about our love of Oh, Sleeper in an attempt to lighten the mood. Lastly, I include an excerpt from my recent interview with Dan Watson, the vocalist of Enterprise Earth (30:25). We talk about their new album, 'Luciferous', updates to the band's style, and the general state of deathcore. Thank you for listening. Heather was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis young, then made it through nursing training, graduate school, dating, getting married, and having her first baby before her PSC symptoms started to really affect her quality of life. She speaks about how she and her husband approached having another child, planning for, then recovering from, a living donor transplant, and how roles and work have shifted in their family.

Important Show Announcement The Nightly Rant was always intended to be a 5 day per week show. When we started it we naively jumped in and began recording and releasing episodes. After more than 120 episodes, we have learned that we need to get in front of the content release schedule. Episodes will be released Tuesday thru Saturday. If something happens and we can't record on a certain day, we will re-release an older episode as a reminder to listeners how amazing our podcast is.  Episode 122 Mike opens the show by pointing out that some people think they are funny. This leads to a discussion of whether or not Mike, himself, is funny or not. Mike says that for every 4 people you meet, 2 people will be funny and he is one of them. Mike says they spend a lot of time during the day solving problems. He says sometimes it is nice to have a television show that you don't even have to pay attention to. He says that Floribama Shore is that show for him. Mike claims every member of the cast is drama queens. They push each other's buttons. When they go out they continually start fights with everyone. It is clear that the production crew asks them to push the envelope a bit. Mike then compares Floribama Shore with The Jersey Shore. He says the last season he watched of The Jersey Shore was the best one he has seen yet.  Torya says that The Jersey Shore is dumb. Mike says Torya's approach towards The Jersey Shore is just like the Trump haters. Trump could cure cancer and they would complain he put oncologists out of business. Torya doesn't understand why people like watching people with less than half a brain make idiots of themselves on television. Mike says that many people want to do stupid stuff like these people do. He says the Floribama Shore people are like matches and gasoline together. Mike reminds Torya of the message she sent him regarding the new show they are working on. He explains that the person could be a guest, but not the host. Torya then goes back to why people watch reality television. She points out that she likes 90 Day Fiance and Married at First Sight and those people are also idiots in her opinion. She can't figure out why she likes watching those shows.  They then discuss how these reality stars whine so much. Mike points out the format wherein they use tell-all episodes to break up the season. Mike says that when the Teen Mom crew started talking to the producers it started to change and ruin the show. Torya then brings up a musician from Canada that she likes who has been accused of sexual abuse and he has turned himself in. This leads her to believe he did what he's accused of. Mike asks does this change anything about the music. Torya says that hearing his music upsets her. Mike says that's a perspective and she should honor her own perspective. Torya says the music has stopped making her feel happy and just reminds her of what he did. Mike says he understands. One of his favorite bands, As I Lay Dying, had a similar situation. He said after the accusations about AILD, their music had less effect on him. They talk about how people want the government to control everything. Mike points out there are two sides: (1) the government should control everything; and (2) the government should stay out of our lives.  Torya points out that she finds people who tell her how to live her life offensive. Mike brings up the Brown family who had to leave Utah because of the definition of polygamy. They defined it as living together as if you are married. Mike points out that what people do with their personal lives is their business. What if the neighbors bring home a bunch of people to have sex? Does it change their lives? No!

Controversial comeback of metal band As I Lay Dying is raising many tough questions on forgiveness and atonement. Dennis and Tim (not Lambesis) have a conversation about it. AILD was a huge influence for Dennis and Affiance, and it felt important to discuss from the point of a musician who held the same role in a band, and was impacted personally by Tim's heinous crime. Emily has been battling serious illnesses, PSC, UC since she was 19, and liver cancer at 33. As a mother, she has done her best to create an optimistic life with as little fear for her young son as possible as she has survived a colectomy, cancer treatment and a liver transplant. She discusses what it was like to be in survival mode for most of her adult life, what it meant to be a “sick mom” and how her outlook since transplant is all about her zest for life and what might come next. Natalie learned of her PSC diagnosis when her sons were very young. She had been pursuing the “perfect” stay-at-home-mom life and soon discovered that when mother is your central role, PSC will definitely affect how you parent. She shares how she has talked to her sons about PSC and how her family has grown in not only understanding her disease but becoming very active in the larger PSC community.

Serbrina and her husband survived a 10-year waitlist for her life saving transplant made necessary by the progression of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. While her feelings about motherhood at this stage in her life are complex, she holds possibility for that and all areas of her life. She discusses the shifting considerations, emotions, and frames of mind that PSC brought to her lived experience and how a successful transplant has transformed how she approaches time and living life.

Katrina’s medical journey began at 15 with her Ulcerative Colitis diagnosis, but as she found experts that provided much needed relief, she was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. She discusses her shift in outlook, her support system, her second pregnancy and what role PSC plays, or doesn’t, in her day to day life.

Jessica’s early and intense introduction to life saving procedures means many discussions about IVF, surrogacy, and adoption with her husband, family and friends. She listens to herself and her body and chooses a path, that while not easy, lives up to her goal of living life without regrets.

Kiersten knew the dangers of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis as a result of her father’s diagnosis. She faced her own diagnosis as a young adult and found that her PSC had a different progression. In the 3-year window that her doctor gave her, she had two pregnancies that included a lot of uncertainty, bed rest and ultimately, vibrant young children.

Jordan Mancino, drummer for Wovenwar (and ex-As I Lay Dying) guests this week on your favorite metal podcast to talk about the band's new record, Honor is Dead, which is out now. We talked with Jordan about the recent departure of bandmate Phil Sgrosso (he'd been a part of AILD and/or Wovenwar since he was a teenager), how they were able to reconstruct themselves after Tim Lambesis decided to "go rogue" and what that looked like from the inside, how that time in their history informs who they are today, and their experience as a Christian band evolving into a secular group in such a visible way. We also talk about bands who come to represent entire genres of music. Some bands that barely have a connection to a type of music adopt a new aesthetic and sound, then rise to the top of a genre by writing middle of the road tunes that play on the popular pieces of the genre's past and capitalize on the lowest common denominator of fans. Are such bands legit? It's happened with many different genres over the years: Green Day with punk, Limp Bizkit with nu-metal, Avenged Sevenfold with metal and many more.
