Ook Berlage is ooit ergens begonnen, en wel als tekenaar op het architectenbureau van Theodor Sanders. Dat was niet alleen een bevlogen en hoogst originele architect, maar ook een enthousiaste ondernemer met een bijzondere voorliefde voor spoorwegen. Berlage werd wereldberoemd, Sanders raakte in het vergeetboek, ondanks zijn bijdragen aan de bloei van 19e eeuws Amsterdam. Sanders bouwde 's lands eerste sportcomplex op het Museumplein en zijn Noord-Hollandsche Tram ontsloot het Waterland en bracht het toerisme naar Marken en Volendam. Zij aan zij met zijn vrouw Cateau Huidekoper streed hij bovendien voor geboortebeperking, vrouwenkiesrecht, arbeidersrechten en onderwijsvernieuwing. Samen met Arjan den Boer brengt Koen Kleijn deze architect terug in de schijnwerpers. Arjan den Boer schrijft over monumenten, architectuur, affiches en spoorweghistorie en is auteur van Theodor Sanders - De vergeten compagnon van Berlage (1847-1927).

Nous sommes le 15 décembre 1933. Dans le numéro 13 de la revue « Bâtir », crée l'année précédente, relayant les tendances de la Belgique de l'Entre-deux-guerres, on peut lire un article intitulé : « Architecture d'orgueil et de misère – La ville au cœur pourri ». Il est signé par Stanislas Jasinski, architecte, membre de l'Association de Décorateurs et Ensembliers Modernes. « Qu'est-ce que l'architecture d'aujourd'hui ? Qu'est-ce que la construction ? Où en est, de par le monde, cette activité, ou , plus exactement, cette industrie qui groupe d'innombrables travailleurs et techniciens de tous les corps d'état en grande partie réduits au chômage ? Faut-il croire, avec Berlage, qu'elle reflète exactement l'état dans lequel se trouve la Société qu'elle encadre ? Les jeunes estiment que le moment est venu de faire le bilan des méfaits du conformisme et de les laisser tenter eux aussi une expérience. Il n'est plus temps, en effet, de nier l'évidence et de reporter à plus tard l'audience des nouvelles générations. Nous avons éprouvé que les vieux pilotes avaient la vue faible el que leurs actions n'étaient que simulacre. Nous voulons faire quelque chose, n'importe quoi, pourvu que ce soit utile. Nous voulons démolir – nous savons pourquoi – et nous voulons rebâtir – nous savons comment ! La maison de l'homme de 1880, de 1890, ne nous convient plus. Nous a-t-elle jamais convenu ? Vieille à peine de cinquante ans, souvent moins, elle s'est révélée à ce point impratique et inadaptable que progressivement, les unes après les autres, on est contraint de les abandonner. Des rues entières constituées de ce vieux type d'immeubles se vident de leurs habitants, des quartiers vieillis se désaffectent et meurent de leur mort naturelle. Où sont-ils allés, où vont-ils, où iront-ils ces anciens habitants des maisons abandonnées ? Nous les avons suivis. Dépouillant la gangue déprimante de l'habitude et désireux d'épouser les normes nouvelles, ils s'acheminent progressivement vers l'immeuble moderne, rationnellement conçu, où ils réalisent enfin les conditions d'une vie plus confortable et partant plus heureuse. » Etoile montante de l'architecture moderniste, Stanislas Jasinski a côtoyé les personnalités marquante de son époque : Horta, van de Velde, Le Corbusier, mais aussi Magritte… On lui doit l'hôpital Bordet, à Bruxelles ou l'aéroport de Deurne près d'Anvers. Et surtout des immeubles à appartements de haut standing. Le recyclage permanent de la ville, son idée maîtresse, en font, peut-être, l'un de pionniers de l'écologie. In this episode, I speak with Jole Berlage-Buccellati about the importance of exploring the spectrum and diversity of experience found within the Highly Sensitive Person. We discuss the connection between HSP and trauma, HSP and being a change-marker and how HSPs are often high-potential individuals. Jole Berlage-Buccellati's path led her from two degrees in science (biology/anthropology) and a minor in music, to a certification as a Pilates trainer with Alan Herdman. Years of training in Karate and Modern Dance taught her about the organized flow of life energy and the focused mind approach inherent in both. A master's degree in music therapy allowed me to fuse these various threads into an integral and innovative approach to support highly-sensitives. In this episode of Architecture, Design & Photography we sit down with Heagi Kang, co-founder and design principal at Andmore Partners based in Los Angeles, CA.Heagi (Hyeung Seok) Kang, AIA, is a co-founder and design principal at Andmore Partners in Los Angeles, which he started in 2015 with Sean Mo. His professional career began with an internship at Eric Own Moss Architects and evolved into 14 years of residential and commercial experience working at GMPA Architects (previously GMP), Mix Studioworks, and AC Martin + TSM. Prior to studying architecture, Heagi navigated several different fields, starting from social welfare at Yonsei University in Seoul and anthropology and fine art at the University of Oregon (Eugene). While he was in the master's program at Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles, he took two international programs, collaborating with a studio at The Berlage in Rotterdam and another in Kyoto Seika University in Japan. Heagi's interdisciplinary studies and varied hands-on architectural experiences allow him to shape his own way of seeing a design. His fundamental process provides a deeper understanding and critical path of thinking compared to the typical design process. Heagi believes that creativity originates from finding, discovering, and combining two or more different things, rather than inventing a new thing that never existed. In that sense, as an architect, he values hidden or ignored elements that can open the possibilities to embrace our lifestyle through the quality of spaces. Heagi also approaches “architecture as a developer,” which is not the traditional role of the architect. Harry de Winter is televisieproducent, programmamaker en kunstenaar. In september en oktober exposeert hij in de Weisbard galerie en de Beurs van Berlage met Out of the box. De tentoonstelling bestaat onder andere uit diorama's, prints en beelden. De Winter begon zijn mediacarrière als radioverslaggever bij de KRO en de VARA. In 1977 richtte hij productiemaatschappij IDVT op. Hij brak door bij het grote publiek met Wintertijd, een programma waarin bekende Nederlanders of buitenlandse gasten werden geïnterviewd over hun leven en muzikale invloeden. Begin dit jaar werd bekend dat De Winter ongeneeslijk ziek is. Het was een van de redenen om, 23 jaar na de eerste aflevering, opnieuw een seizoen Wintertijd te maken. Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met Julie-Marthe Cohen, conservator cultuurgeschiedenis in het Joods Museum Amsterdam en initiatiefnemer van de uitvoering van het Requiem van Theresienstadt, dat zondag 19 juni voor het eerst in Nederland wordt opgevoerd in de Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam en dat op donderdagavond 23 juni 2022 te zien is op televisie bij de NOS op NPO2. In het concentratiekamp Theresienstadt vond in de Tweede Wereldoorlog in 1943 en 1944, zestien keer een bijzondere uitvoering plaats van het 'Messa da Requiem' van Giuseppe Verdi. Dit indrukwekkende muziekstuk werd met een koor van 150 Joodse gevangenen uitgevoerd onder leiding van de Tsjechische dirigent Raphael Schächter, eveneens een gevangene. Met de uitvoering van het Requiem boden Schächter en zijn koor met moed en waardigheid weerstand aan de gruwelijke situatie waarin zij verkeerden. Het zingen van het Requiem werd een daad van verzet tegen de nazi's: We zingen voor hen wat we hun niet kunnen zeggen. De Amerikaanse dirigent Murry Sidlin hoorde van Schächters Requiem en zocht overlevenden van Theresienstadt op. Diep onder de indruk schreef Sidlin een concertdrama, 'Defiant Requiem', dat voor het eerst in 2002 werd uitgevoerd en nu opnieuw wordt opgevoerd in de Beurs van Berlage. In 'Defiant Requiem ' wordt de muziek afgewisseld met videofragmenten van interviews met overlevenden van Theresienstadt, theatrale monologen en filmbeelden van onder andere de historische propagandafilm 'Der Führer schenkt den Juden eine Stadt'.

Ans van Nieuwenhuijze was op 2-2-2002 bij het koninklijk huwelijk in de Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. Mooi moment.... Hoewel?

Je bent terug bij het Victorieplein. --- Stem: Job Cohen Productie: Freek Schröder Afbeelding: Amsterdam Museum (route periode 1936 - 1942) --- Transcript 'Tram 8' Deze tramlijn reed van de Rivierenbuurt naar het Centraal Station, via de Jodenhoek. Lijn 8 vervoerde veel Joodse passagiers. De anti-Joodse acties van de NSB, begin 1941 (genoemd in aflevering 22), vonden ook bij de tram plaats. In de Weesperstraat, toen nog een smalle straat door de oude Joodse buurt, gebruikte een conducteur van lijn 8 een keer zijn wisselijzer om NSB-ers die Joden molesteerden van de tram te slaan. Op 9 juli 1942 werd de lijn opgeheven, na het verbod aan de Joden om per tram – of welk vervoermiddel dan ook – te reizen. Toch stapten er in 1942-1943 nog Joden op de tram – onder dwang en vaak 's nachts. De bezetter gebruikte het trambedrijf voor het transport van de Joden uit hun woonbuurten naar de Hollandse Schouwburg en naar de treinen met bestemming Westerbork. Berlage' Dit in 1960 geplaatste beeld van Hendrik Petrus Berlage is gemaakt door Hildo Krop. Op de sokkel staat kortweg: BERLAGE BOUWMEESTER 1856-1934 Berlage kijkt hier in de richting van de door hem ontworpen en naar hem genoemde brug, de Berlagebrug. Rondom hem strekt zich het resultaat uit van zijn Plan Zuid. Berlage ontwierp de fameuze Koopmansbeurs aan het Damrak, de Beurs van Berlage, een gebouw dat geldt als vroeg voorbeeld van het moderne, van oude stijlen bevrijde bouwen. Hij ontwierp ook ‘De Burght' van de Algemene Nederlandse Diamantwerkers Bond (ANDB), vlakbij Artis. In een studentenwoning van het Conservatorium van Amsterdam werd in 2008 door vier bevlogen saxofonisten Lars Niederstrasser, Peter Vigh, Juani Palop Tecles en Eva van Grinsven het Berlage Saxophone Quartet opgericht. This is a special episode we were invited to make by Tony's Chocolonely, an Amsterdam-based chocolate company which is on a mission to eradicate modern slavery and make 100% slave-free the norm in chocolate.  Earlier this year, the Chief Chocolate Officer of Tony's Chocolonely, Henk Jan Beltman, was arrested for spray painting a Black Lives Matter slogan next to a statue of one of the most notorious Dutch colonial figures, Jan Pieterszoon Coen.  The statue stands on the corner of the Beurs van Berlage, an iconic building in the centre of Amsterdam, and one in which Tony's Chocolonely have set up shop today. When speaking to the media after being released without charge, Beltman said "Jan Pieterzoon Coen was one of the largest slave traders in our history, which must be indicated with such a statue. We cannot rewrite history and I am normally not fond of graffiti, but with this action I hope to keep the social debate going.”  To this end, Tony's approached us and asked us to create a podcast for their staff which would help them better understand the historic connections Amsterdam has with both the chocolate industry and the slave trade. Amsterdam is a city which has been involved in the cocoa trade and chocolate production almost since the bean’s first introduction into Europe. Fong Leng heeft ook altijd een groot gevoel voor show gehad en in de jaren zeventig en tachtig organiseerde ze groots opgezette modeshows in de Beurs van Berlage en Carré. An interview with Dr. Nancy Berlage, professor of History at Texas State University. Her research and teaching interests include public history, the American political culture, and rural culture. Dr. Berlage discusses her most recent work, Farmers Helping Farmers The Rise of the Farm and Home Bureaus was published by Louisiana State University Press in July 2016. Berlage explores how bureaus (more specifically the American Farm Bureau) served as the locus of science-based agriculture for rural communities. Drawing on community bonds and culturally powerful metaphors to overcome skepticism, bureaus played a critical role in circulating knowledge grounded in the new disciplines of agricultural economics, rural sociology, home economics, veterinary medicine, child science, and public health.
