Featured Musicians: The Missing Chums The Video: [After THE JUMP: The things to be said.] --------------------- 1. Texas After Review starts at the top The defensive story isn't that bad. Down to down they can hang. Jyaire Hill is a work in progress that Texas picked on and broke a few times. Their problem seems to be Wink, who has NFL ideas for 3rd down that are at fault for them not getting off the field. Busts go back to running too much stuff. They can fix this. Offensively they can't fix this. Their OL is just not good. Priebe's 2023 film was more honest than the 2024 offseason talk: he's just a guy. Link and Giudice are so far from being playable. Don't think we've ever had the program talk guys up so much and this be the result. ALSO the offensive brain trust doesn't know how to use their personnel. We're just guys on the internet but 13 snaps each for Mullings and Bredeson when those are two of your best weapons is inexplicable. It looks like they're just trying to be last year's offense with Donovan Warren. 2. Arkansas State: Offense starts at 22:11 Return Jaylen Raynor who started as a freshman. He's a runner who will take off when his 2nd read isn't there. Tackles are in rough shape since losing LT Makilan Thomas to injury; he's questionable for this game. Dangerman is wide receiver Corey Rucker, who plays big for a 6'0/214 guy. Butch Jones offense: spread to dink with a few bombs to keep you honest. 3. Arkansas State: Defense starts at 32:56 Defense has a lot of transfers, one guy that Alex liked was edge Bryan Whitehead, a Liberty transfer, but Seth notes that Tulsa has one of the worst LTs in the country; is Evan Link bad for a P4 player or bad for a football player? Safeties are a real weak spot: not fast and not big, they should be double-moved by Loveland. 4. Unverified Voracity Live starts at 43:11 RIP to James Earl Jones, who was a tremendous flex and a tremendous Michigan story. RIP also to Greg Harden, our former guest who had a hand in creating the Michigan program culture. Less sad RIPs: the Big Ten being immune from lawsuits, as Denard Robinson and Braylon Edwards show House isn't going to settle this. In other legal news, the ACC seems to be winning against FSU's big threat of having the state of Florida declare sovereign immunity. Pac 2 is now up to Pac 6, but don't expect Cal/Stanford to join any time soon, since they culturally want nothing to do with Wazzu and Oregon State, and they're held by the same Grant of Rights as the other ACC teams. Maybe UNLV if they bring along Reno. About the Featured Musician: The Missing Chums Longtime MGoBlog fans—notably drummer Mike K (@outofthegates) of Michigan twitter—The Missing Chums (website) are an upbeat local indie with the name of a Hardy Boys novel that makes them ungoogleable. Their latest album Reveries just came out. Song choices: "No, Not Nancy!" AUDIO: SMU, Cal, Stanford joins the ACC - Geoff Calkins
Brett McMurphy, Action Network HQ, on how he thinks this will play out for the ACC. What are the REAL reasons behind the ACC adding Cal, Stanford, & SMU?? Desperation, money, or something else? If they’re adding these schools, than why doesn’t the ACC add more? Brett believes schools will still end up leaving the ACC, so which schools is he convinced are on their way out (eventually)? Can he see far enough in the future where Brett sees THIS scenario, which would make college football look more like the NFL? What does Brett absolutely HATE about all of this? What will conferences look like in years to come? If we rolled the clocks back about 10 years ago, if the people who made these decisions thoughts it would be bad; does Brett think they still would’ve done it or changed the path?
Aaron Dickens and Clint Scott give the Juice and discuss Texas Tech's upcoming game against Wyoming, expectations for the Tech defense, if the team will manage expectations this season, and the three additions to the ACC.

Mike DeCourcy, SportingNews.com, on where he stands with all of this and what he believes they SHOULD be doing. What are the alternatives that the ACC hasn’t thrown out as an option? Is it better business to do nothing versus what they’re leaning towards doing? Adam believes the ACC SHOULD’VE jumped at grabbing these two schools a few years back, but here’s why Mike doesn’t think it would’ve gone the way Adam believes it would’ve. Who do you agree with? What does Mike think college football/sports will look like in the coming years?

Luke DeCock, News & Observer, on whether his stance has changed about whether this is a good or bad thing for the ACC. What does the ACC need to do to actually help it bring in more revenue? What was the ACC’s biggest miss, in Luke’s opinion? Which school will REALLY benefit from each scenario, even though that’s the opposite of what some schools want? Notre Dame’s AD REFUSED to acknowledge the ACC on Dan Patrick’s show yesterday, which is ridiculous. Why does Luke think he avoided mentioning the ACC? Will UNC over achieve, under achieve, or just achieve this season?

Tim shares how he was impressed by rookie quarterback Bryce Young once again in his second preseason start for the Carolina Panthers. Young went 3 for 6 for 35 yards and led a 15-play, 62-yard drive for a field goal. Even though the Panthers lost the game 21-19, Young's performance was a promising sign for the future. Also, the ACC continues to talk about Cal and Stanford joining the ACC? What exactly are we waiting for in regard to this discussion? Tim believes they're strictly talking about negotiations.
Clarity could be coming on Cal/Stanford's ACC future, ESPN's Burke Magnus breaks down ESPN's view on WBB, CFP, Pac-12, the relationship between the Big Ten and SEC has become more cordial and more. Caleb (@kdiggs74) and Derek (@derekrusinek) are here to go through the world of sports. This time they start off with some interesting NFL news as Mike Vrabel let his new assistant Head Coach, Terrell Williams, coach the preseason game in Chicago this past weekend, and what it could look like as teams may start innovating like this more often. Then it's to new contracts as Zack Martin has ended his holdout in Dallas with a new deal for the next two seasons. Then it's to the running back zone of the AFC East as Ezekiel Elliot got a new contract in New England, while Dalvin Cook got a new contract in New York with the Jets. Then they go down under as Spain is for sure in the final for the Women's World Cup, but it is to be determined if they will play against Australia or England in the final. Finally, they go ahead and talk about how 4 schools in the ACC are blocking Cal & Stanford from being added to the conference. Theme music by The Riley Brothers Band. Tim discussed the news that four ACC teams voted against Cal and Stanford joining the conference. Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina, and NC State were the four teams that voted against the expansion. The reasons for the votes are varied, but some of the concerns include the financial impact, the travel distance, and the academic fit. Also, UNC quarterback Drake Maye is looking to have a better season than he did in 2022. An anonymous defensive coordinator stated that Maye "does not like to get hit" during his quarterback confidential. Tim explains the deeper meaning of this and what it means for Maye heading into this season.

There's much to unpack from Art Spander's joyful journey of six decades as a sportswriter. The indefatigable Bay Area legend recalls the rise of young Tiger Woods and offers an intriguing theory. Art recounts covering iconic games such as The Catch, and The Miracle on Ice. He puts us at the Cal-Stanford game when “the band is on the field!” Art shares his love for major sporting events, especially the Rose Bowl. And he laughs about receiving a special delivery from Candlestick Park's sod squad, and about being threatened by three athletes in a five-day span. Art explains how he ended up with Kyle Shanahan's backpack and Super Bowl game plan. He takes us to training camp with the motley Oakland Raiders of the 1970s. Rules? What rules? Oh, and Art covered Marilyn Monroe's funeral. What? Seriously. Hear about that and more. What a trip. Spander has been a fixture in the Bay Area sports scene since 1965, and he has practically lived at major sporting events. He attended or covered 67 consecutive Rose Bowls beginning in 1954 when he sold game programs. He has covered the Masters 55 times, including 54 in a row, and nearly every U.S. Open golf tournament since 1966. He has worked more than 40 Super Bowls, and more than 50 tennis Grand Slam events, including Wimbledon about 30 times. Art has covered more than 30 Final Fours, more than 30 British Opens, and the World Series nearly 20 times. He has also covered multiple Summer and Winter Olympics, the Ryder Cup, each of the Triple Crown thoroughbred races, the Indianapolis 500, nearly every Crosby/AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am for more than a half-century and every Cal-Stanford football game since 1968. 12-19-2020 Passed Ball Show. John opens this program by discussing some of the greatest endings in the history of sports. He uses as examples the Shot Heard around World, Cal/ Stanford walk off kick return (band on the field), NC State/ Virginia finish in 1983 Final Four, and the Music City Miracle of 2000. John then talks about Trevor Bauer involving himself in what is being reported about him. While John agrees with a player disproving something they do not believe is true, he does not believe Jon Heyman was giving his own opinion/ analysis. If the Reds do not have the financial resources and most importantly, if they declared they are not making an offer to sign Bauer, any reporter has the right and is not in the wrong to report it. John then talks about the probability that James Harden will get traded before the start of the NBA regular season. He talks about the Brooklyn/ Philadelphia possibilities and if it would be better to have Kyrie Irving or Ben Simmons go the Houston. Two is company and three is a crowd. John finishes off the program by making five more free agent predictions for Major League Baseball.

"The play to beat the band".

Growth, Roseville Development Services, and the famous Cal-Stanford football game all come together is this episode of Roseville Connections.
It's the Chaser Edition! "A podcast about television." But what will you get in it? Um, face punching, Question Boy (Chronicle media and political writer Joe Garofoli) brings up some interesting new voices. I ate the rest of Megan's cookies and Manny (Benny Evangelista) is stunned by that news -- since he never got any of them. He's less stunned that "Benny's Corner" has been canceled. (There is, however, a "Save Benny's Corner" campaign on our Facebook page...which we really do love -- the people and the photos, not the "Save Benny's Corner" campaign...Thanks for everyone who has joined as fans. Now start leaving us some questions on the page or starting a dialog...A dialog that doesn't include a campaign to save "Benny's Corner."). This podcast is noteworthy (never thought we'd write that) because we taped it late in the afternoon and we were both tired and punchy and then we got a little loopy and a lot stupid and we ended up very proud of this effort. It's just the right mix of pointless and stupid -- which is hard to do. Let's put it this way -- we somehow placed Dora on the field during the famous Cal-Stanford game. Later, we empower her -- Le Femme Dora! -- and she gets a gun. And uses it. In addition: We propose a "podcasting camp" as a scam for cash and beer. We have a vision of Benny running while carrying a tuba. (Don't ask.) We read a question from our Facebook page. We talk about "Yo Gabba Gabba" and "Pancake Mountain." Calls come from Oregon and "the Houston area" -- but nothing from Australia or Latin America -- and then we discover that Bill Walton doesn't even sound like Bill Walton as he promotes a new contest to look or sound like him. Helium? Fraud? "That's not the Goose!" says QB. None of it makes sense. But does it ever? And it ends very strangely.
