Welcome to our 6th iteration of the Black Girl's Guide to Surviving Menopause podcast: the Season of Orisii. Building on our international diasporic tour from last year, this season's theme is Orisii, or 'pairs' in the Afric language of Yoruba. We've invited different types of pairs to explore the through-line between menarche and menopause. You will hear parent/child, partner/lovers and siblings to offer their reflections and observations about this journey as individual and as Orisii. We, as people capable of menstruation, understand that each experience is unique and impacts both ourselves and the connections we have with our loved ones. For this fourth episode of our Season of Orisii, we have life partners, Jasiatic and Elsworth Usher. In this episode, we time-traveled, grounded in the here and now, dipping back to the past and stretching towards the future, where taking risks lands us in infinite possibilities and love grows. In numerology, the number 4 represents practicality, loyalty, knowledge, and dependability. It seems very fortunate for us to explore the journey from menarche to menopause through the lens of the intergenerational love partnership between Jasiatic and Elworth. Many astrologers agree that Virgo and Capricorn are one of the most auspicious pairings, platonically, romantically--creatively. Mercury and Saturn Pragmatism and Vigour Earth and Earth They seem to get each other... Jasiatic and Elsworth also share a love connection between the American South and the Global South, with Jasiatic heralding from Charlotte, North Carolina, and Elsworth a first-generation American from Belize. In this episode, we explore: Reflections of first periods (menarche) from the first person perspective and bearing witness to it Southern vs. Caribean mothers August Virgos Intergenerational love and care Unexpected death Grief Menstrual blood What it means to be sure and risk it all Meet Jasiatic and Elsworth: Jasiatic Anderson Usher, @jasiatic, resides at the cultural and philosophical crossroads of world travel, radical taste making, “artist as art”, and foodie meets chef. She is the creator of the Liberation Dinners and has hands in plant based pop ups, food history classes, transitional plant based coaching, along with food writing. Elswoth Usher, @iamelz, is a creative writer, digital content creator, sous chef, photographer, thinker, lover, partner, and Capricorn stelium. Together, they co-host "Su Casa," Charlotte's longest-running dance party for the culturally starved, which Jasiatic manifested over 10 years ago. *No menstrual blood was used to coerce Brother Elsworth. Ahhh France. Your President has forgotten about you, yet you rage on. We talk about the French protests and what they could mean for Europe. Kim Jong-Un says he has a new play toy which can create NUCLEAR TSUNAMIS!!!! That's fun. Isreal is sliding into protests as well. This time it's because their PM decided to protect himself over actual justive. Kinda jacked up. That's why we're here. To discuss that which is jacked up. “The most Sad Girl in the Rick Riordan books.”Experiencing heartache? Maybe skip this episode for now. Darien (she/her) and DJ (he/him) present their most melancholy episode yet by discussing Calypso. She's sad, she's pretty, and she's nothing like her mythic source material in The Odyssey. Other topics include Darien being weirdly cool with age gaps getting explained away in fantasy romance stories, DJ being weirdly into hella-sad relationship tropes, the Leo Valdez Defence Club, the decor of Ogygia, relationship dealbreakers, and clothing glow-ups. Spoilers for Heroes of Olympus, Trials of Apollo, The Kane Chronicles, Twilight, Pirates of the Caribean (film franchise), Star Trek: Discovery, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and How I Met Your MotherContent Warning: This episode contains mentions of and conversations about imprisonment, sexual intercourse, sexual assault, power dynamics, and implied pedophiliaWizard of Legend Bonus Episodes up at Bunker 9: Patreon.com/musesofmythologyAbout UsMuses of Mythology was created and co-hosted by Darien and DJ Smartt. Our music is Athens Festival by Martin Haene. The Noisy Boys are back and the biggest episode yet. The episode 69th special. Sean took a break to go to the island of Hawaii and during is stay did not realize the Amber Heard v Johnny Depp trial was going on. But that is not where the story ends. While Amber heard and Johnny Depp off the Pirates of the Caribean franchise decide who is a big turd. Netflix took a big hit in the stock market. We did our best to pitch our best ideas to Netlfix but in the end...we could not save them. Netflix passed on all shows but we saved some of those pitches to you. Shows that we would all be familiar with like Netflix's Is it Cake, The Great British Bake off, and Shark Tank? To bring it all home we talk about Elon Musk (previous lover of Amber Heard) buying the app Twitter for 44 billion dollars. Whoever works for Elon Musk just got really lucky. Depending on what Elon Musk does we may decide to return to Twitter and bring some of the Noisy Business back online. And to end the podcast at a good 69 minutes we squeese in a fun conversation about the movie The Northman. Director Robert Eggers new movie The Northman had us thinking and considering were we would go if we were Vikings. It was a very fun episode from Amber Heard to Vikings. This episode is CRAZY and the Noisiest we have been. Follow us on TIKTOK, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

They say, “Good things come in threes!” But who are ‘They' and what's good about them? Here are just a few… Primary Colors Branches of Government Stooges I could go on for days, but good things in business also come in threes… The Marketing Trifecta The C-Level Superteam Your Brain In order for your business to achieve, grow, and scale, you can't achieve real success by adding, or changing marketing alone. If that was the case, I probably would not need to show companies how? I would be enjoying a massage, on my private yacht, parked next to my private island in the Caribean. I wish… so let's get back to reality! "Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing." – Thomas Edison In this episode, I will discuss how the combo of sales, marketing, and analytics along with sales, marketing, and accounting create two power threes to speed up your success! We can expect that the kidnap for ransom gang that is holding the American and Canadian Missionary group hostage is now seen on a different level. They have taken hostages from an aid agency before and gotten paid, this group the 400 Mawozo or 400 Marozo unclear which spelling is used one term means idiots the other simpletons or neardowells are far from their origins as a gang of drug and booze-crazed youths who committed crimes for the need for money. They are the real thing - a criminal gang terrorizing the Caribean country on the verge of collapse. If the gang and its leaders can hook up with haters of American groups and missionaries this could turn them into a far wider and wilder group beyond 400 - and Haiti into a base for crimanl piracy and terror that could make them be as bad as the horn of Africa or some areas for Sulu Sea. If or when the ransom is paid and the hostages are released, the gangs leadership is smart enough to know there will be at some point a reckoning - it may be in their best interest to see no harm comes to anyone in thier custody as they will one day have to face up to what is done and so will anyone who helps them. First, we hear from the White House, then from Canadian broadcaster CTV on their analysis of the situation - www.ctv.ca and whitehouse.gov are the audio souces. US and Canadian law enforcement know after this situation whatever the outcome - the gang and its backers in government in Haiti that allow it to exist - and expect they do have allies if they are committing 80% of the 380 kidnaps reported in the capital of Port-Ah-Prince alone. The country has its problems and it is likely this kidnapping had something to do with the border situation and the asylum seekers who were trying to enter the USA. Expect further that this will get worse with the gang growing stature and perhaps other gangs might be emboldened to hit targets in the Dominican Republic or beyond even up to Puerto RIco, The US has the means and capability and needs to remind this gang who and what they are dealing with at some point moving forward. I have seen this play out before with different groups some ideologues others who were in it purely for the money. On this is clear it may not happen soon but expect one day even a decade down the road those responsible had better hope none of the hostages are harmed. Becuase the wrath of a superpower can be fury beyond what they have ever seen. None of the kidnappers I know of who took part in attacks on Amrtivsnd ot Canadians for or westerners many of them ideologicial foes of the USA ended well, Many are not far off in Gitmo others are sleeping with the fishes. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mike-k-cohen/support

Bruce, is his street name, an alias. Bruce is the combat team leader of the Guardian Angels in #QUEENS #NYC. That's the largest borough by population in the city that is made up of five counties - boroughs - and acts almost like a state within the large and wealthy State of New York. Bruce is AAPI, he is from thr area and has been active since age 15 with the Angels, he has seen many times when this city improved and he went to work raised a family and left protecting the streets because leaders came who did their jobs, But now? the city is sick and crime is its worse disease. Bruce and the angels are part of the cure. He and the combat team are growing from areas like Sunnyside, Corona, Woodside, Elmhurst, Long Island City, and Flushing and wider areas slowly chapters are growing, The people are joining the angels because as many residents have told us. Police no long come when called in many cases unless blood has been spilled or some form of violence has taken place. Much of this is directed versus Migrants both the documented or legal immigrants from Asia and the America's south of the border to beyond across the globe to gangs preying on the new arrivals who must earn anyway they can to pay off debts used to smuggle them into the USA. The largest target for crime? Asian Americans, the main source of the criminals - gang members often released by poltical leaders who want their votes pardoning them or forcing them to do the political bidding which many believe may be urban development planned and pushed by political ethinic crime wave cleansing, That's a topic we will discuss over time for now lets talks to Bruse as we walk the street of Queens, to hear and get a feel in this first part of the scene and sounds Walking with Angels in Woodside. NYC, has the largest Chinese American population in the USA, and Asian Americans, from the Philippines, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, China and Indonesia make up a growing wealthy percentage of the population; Most come from large families and have ties to home countries and sponsor more migrants. But unlike earlier migrants coming from Europe or South American or the Caribean or Africa. Asians do not go for welfare or the public dole, most seek out hard work, go into business and invest earnings to grow wealth. Most come in with stakeholders from property sales in home countries and a rising majority of property owners. Political hacks and insiders don't like this - they want another group who only maters to them to be in control of the city. But that won't happen, Because in street of a city run by demons who want make it a part of hell there are Angels ready to fight for freedom, truth, and justice - which is the American Way. I am Mike K Cohen, Mike of New York and I will try to tell the story. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mike-k-cohen/support

Best swashbuckling movie of all time? Or, a theme park ride pretending to be a movie? They feud, you decide! On this week's episode, the guys feud over the 2003 smash hit, The Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl. The guys talk about the obvious point of contention - Johnny Depp. Vikram thinks it's his best on screen portrayal yet, while Vidur believes it's too OTT (that's over the top btw). Vidur fears the ride it's based on might be more fun than this movie, while Vikram loves how this movie made pirates cool again. The feud continues endlessly until the guys find some common ground over the dialogue writing and Kiera Knightley's acting (not fans FYI). All in all, if you want to hear some bearable pirate impressions, this one's for you! Don’t forget to vote and let the guys know who you think won this feud and also any arguments you might have made on [facebook](https://www.facebook.com/filmfeudpodcast/), [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/filmfeudpodcast/) and [twitter](https://twitter.com/filmfeudpod). If you love tropical, Soca music, Steel Pan drums, you're going to love Nelson Rivera's work with the Bickley Island Chill. Nelson has been playing music from a very early age, he began playing as a bassist and percussionist in over 10 bands which covered rock and roll, heavy metal, fusion, bilingual pop, smooth jazz and now in the Caribean vibe for the past 20 years. Nelson's origin in music stems from his Puerto Rican descent. He grew up listening to Aguinaldo music and watching his dad perform as a cuatro guitarist. His influence helped shape the production of "Caribbean Madness" the only Caribean Riverboat Cruise series on the Connecticut River (which sold out for 5 seasons). He's performed everywhere from Wisconsin, Michigan, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Ohio, Maryland, Florida, and the Bahamas. He averages over 120 shows a year. If you ask which one phrase best describes him, most would say "Ya Mon". We met a few years ago while he was performing with his wife, Bickley, (see episode #28) who plays the Steel Pan drums. I immediately fell in love with their vibe. Nelson is here tonight to discuss: -How he got into playing music -The importance of taking care of your musical affairs even if you have management. -What it takes to make it in the business and so much more. So come on along for a ride mon! We sit down with head brewer, owner, creative genius, Gary Sernack of Bhramari Brewhouse in Asheville. Gary shares how his world travels, Caribean culinary experience and love for collaboration have made this craft brewery one of our long time favorites in the South Slope and beyond. We couldn't agree more with USA Today's review "Each menu item at Bhramari has a beer element that's designed to perfectly complement each pour. Bonus: The burger is incredible." --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/experienceasheville/support

How to Start a Major Festival from SCRATCH Have you ever wanted to start your own conference, festival, or event? You know, like TomCon, or the Morkes Festival? Me too. That's why I brought Stephen Ananicz onto In The Trenches today. Stephen is the cofounder of the The Key West Film Festival, and has a background in acting and film production (if you check out his name on IMDB you’ll see him credited in movies like Pirates of the Caribean and Salt, among other blockbusters). And while his background in film is interesting in and of itself, I really wanted Stephen on In The Trenches today to talk about how he created the Key West Film Festival from scratch. Creating any sort of festival or conference is a massive undertaking and I really wanted to dig into the details on how exactly Stephen went from idea to finished product on a project with such scale. As a quick background on the festival: The Key West Film Festival was founded in 2012 as a nonprofit independent film festival supporting the South Florida art and film community. It’s now going into it’s 3rd year come this November and is continuing to grow in size and popularity. So seriously, if you've ever been interested in creating your own major headline event, this is the interview for you. What Stephen Ananicz and I talk about: How Stephen’s background in film allowed him an inside look at the film industry and gave him a ton of experience with film festivals How he first created the idea for a film festival in Key West, Florida in 2010 How Stephen conducted his initial market research (and why this was paramount to making the event work...pun intended?) What it was like to see the idea snowball to the point of no return (launch or fail) The precise steps for creating a successful festival from scratch (yes, I had Stephen number and organize them for me) How to build the right team for whatever your project is (and why it was essential Stephen got the local community on board) How Stephen tweaked and pivoted the event so it become more productive and successful And much much more Stephen Ananicz on how to start, finish, and ship a massive project: Stay focused on one thing. For Laurie's birthday we go to the other end of Puerto Rico, the west end, to stay at the Tres Sirenas Ocean Front Inn in Rincon. We had a relaxing weekend, every evening we soaked in the jacuzzi while listening to the crash of the surf on the beach. Every morning we had a gourmet breakfast served to us on the porch in front of our room. Harry & Lisa, the owners, told us all about their Bed and Breakfast and the renovations they went through getting it ready and the Caribean decor. Harry took us on a ride all over Rincon to see the other b&b's in the area as well as restaurants, night life and surf spots.
