“If you need food, come and get food. We will load you up.” That's the simple premise for Yavapai College's second communitywide food distribution – the follow-up to a successful staff and student-driven community service project in fall 2024 that lifted 194 households. It's a premise born of the belief that many YC students could use some extra food, and so could many of their friends and neighbors. “This is who we are. This is what we do. We lift people up, not just our own students. We help everybody,” said YC Student Affairs Coordinator Deborah Chambers. “We were so... For the written story, read here >> https://www.signalsaz.com/articles/yavapai-college-st-marys-food-bank-collaborate-on-food-distribution-mar-28/Check out the CAST11.com Website at: https://CAST11.com Follow the CAST11 Podcast Network on Facebook at: https://Facebook.com/CAST11AZFollow Cast11 Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/cast11_podcast_network

By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.   Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America's Social Justice Scam by Vivek Ramaswamy  AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! A young entrepreneur makes the case that politics has no place in business, and sets out a new vision for the future of American capitalism. There's a new invisible force at work in our economic and cultural lives. It affects every advertisement we see and every product we buy, from our morning coffee to a new pair of shoes.  “Stakeholder capitalism” makes rosy promises of a better, more diverse, environmentally-friendly world, but in reality this ideology championed by America's business and political leaders robs us of our money, our voice, and our identity.   Vivek Ramaswamy is a traitor to his class. He's founded multibillion-dollar enterprises, led a biotech company as CEO, he became a hedge fund partner in his 20s, trained as a scientist at Harvard and a lawyer at Yale, and grew up the child of immigrants in a small town in Ohio. Now he takes us behind the scenes into corporate boardrooms and five-star conferences, into Ivy League classrooms and secretive nonprofits, to reveal the defining scam of our century.   The modern woke-industrial complex divides us as a people.  By mixing morality with consumerism, America's elites prey on our innermost insecurities about who we really are. They sell us cheap social causes and skin-deep identities to satisfy our hunger for a cause and our search for meaning, at a moment when we as Americans lack both.   This book not only rips back the curtain on the new corporatist agenda, it offers a better way forward. America's elites may want to sort us into demographic boxes, but we don't have to stay there. Woke, Inc. begins as a critique of stakeholder capitalism and ends with an exploration of what it means to be an American in 2021—a journey that begins with cynicism and ends with hope.      Hillsdale College https://online.hillsdale.edu/ Free Course Offerings- American Citizenship and Its Decline The David Story: Shepherd, Father, King Dante's Divine Comedy Mathematics and Logic: From Euclid to Modern Geometry Civil Rights in American History Introduction to Western Philosophy Classic Children's Literature The Great American Story: A Land of Hope Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution The Genesis Story: Reading Biblical Narratives Introduction to Aristotle's Ethics: How to Lead a Good Life The Second World Wars Congress: How It Worked and Why It Doesn't The Young Jane Austen: Northanger Abbey Western Heritage: From the Book of Genesis to John Locke Mark Twain: Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and Selected Short Stories Introduction to the Constitution Theology 101: The Western Theological Tradition American Heritage: From Colonial Settlement to the Current Day Shakespeare: Hamlet and The Tempest The U.S. Supreme Court Athens and Sparta Public Policy from a Constitutional Viewpoint An Introduction to C.S. Hillsdale College Online Course- American Citizenship and Its Decline Lecture 1 of 8. The History of Citizenship in the West Citizenship emerged more than 2,500 years ago in the ancient Greek city-state. Government by the consent of a free citizenry is rare in human history and on the decline today throughout the constitutional republics of the West.    American Citizenship and Its Decline Sign up for this free course at- https://online.hillsdale.edu/ Course Overview For most of American history, the people, understood as citizens, have ruled through elected representatives under the terms of the Constitution. Today, the constitutional rule of citizens is threatened by a new form of government, unaccountable to the people, in which power is held by a ruling class that seeks to transform our society. This course, based on Victor Davis Hanson's book The Dying Citizen, examines the origins and history of citizenship in the West and the grave challenges to American citizenship today.   Course Lectures 1 Introduction Free government allows human beings to flourish by providing citizens with authority and responsibility to pursue the common good. This practice of citizenship is under attack today by a form of bureaucratic government in which experts dictate rules concerning every area of life. 2 The History of Citizenship in the West Citizenship emerged more than 2,500 years ago in the ancient Greek city-state. Government by the consent of a free citizenry is rare in human history and on the decline today throughout the constitutional republics of the West.  3 The Disappearing Middle Class A large and self-sufficient middle class is essential to citizenship, as it prevents an unstable, binary society of rich and poor. The once thriving American middle class is now vanishing due to high debts, low wages, and government policies that trap citizens in a prolonged adolescence. 4 Illegal Immigration and the Loss of National Sovereignty America's founding principle of equality created an opportunity for people from all over the world—regardless of race or birth—to immigrate to the United States and become full citizens. This led to a system of immigration that proceeded according to established laws and required a willingness and ability to assimilate into American society. These criteria have been abandoned in favor of a system of widespread illegal immigration that erodes the rights of citizens. 5 The Rise of Tribal Politics Tribal politics is one of the most ancient and dangerous challenges to citizenship. The recent rise of identity politics in America breaks the bonds of common citizenship and divides Americans on the basis of superficial characteristics like race, gender, and sexual orientation. 6 The Unelected and Unaccountable Deep State The growth of an administrative deep state in America places massive government power outside the control of American citizens. These unaccountable agencies determine the rules that govern society, execute those rules, and settle disputes, and they wield these combined powers to undermine the constitutional operations of American government. 7 The Erosion of the Constitution A common challenge to citizenship is the view that human nature changes and that fundamental laws need to be altered in favor of a modern understanding of progress and science. Today, the ruling class seeks to consolidate power and advance its progressive ends by making structural changes to the Constitution or circumventing it entirely. 8 The Global Elite and the Great Reset There is a growing movement to surrender American sovereignty to international bodies. 29 Mr. Jasper Tsang Yok-sing: Former President of the Legislative Council, Former Principal of Pui Kiu Middle School @ Fireside採訪者:蔣沛芸,吳業澧Interviewer: Wendy Chong, Lawrence NgWendy:多謝曾先生接受訪問,很榮幸你令能和我們分享你的人生故事。 Paul's College。 第二個「H」是HUMANITY(人性),或HUMANIST(人本主義者)。

Australian rugby is in quite a state and today we have Brendan Cannon on the show to speak about the need for us to remedy this by reigniting a lost sense of community around our beloved game. For those who don't know, Brendan was an Australian Wallaby from 2001 to 2006 and has a large number of games under his belt for the Queensland Reds, the Waratahs, and the Western Force too. In today's show, we chat with Brendan about his personal journey, the obstacles he overcame to achieve what he has, and his views on the current and future state of Australian rugby. Brendan takes us through his formative years and his time with the Souths before getting into a topic that penetrates most of today's conversation, the growing disconnect between professional and club rugby, causes for this, and the tremendous losses the game has experienced as a result. Our guest weighs in on changes in gameplay, the commercialisation of professional rugby, the effects of COVID on the industry, and what could be done to bring back our glory days. We also hear about some of Brendan's personal experiences as a professional player such as his swift return to the game after a severe car accident, his transition from number eight to hooker, and his scrum injury that marked his final exit as a professional player. Don't miss this amazing conversation with a man who brings a lifetime of perspectives from inside and out! Key Points From This Episode: • Brendan's rugby family legacy, love of the game, and childhood memories playing at Souths.• The way famous players used to still play for their clubs, inspiring young players.• Commercialization of pro rugby and reasons for its growing disconnect with amateur rugby.• Why pro players should invest in their clubs and not forget about paying tribute to these roots.• Prohibitive costs, sanitized product, less free gameplay, and other reasons rugby isn't what it used to be.• Brendan's near-fatal car accident and what allowed him to return to rugby soon after.• Why Brendan decided to transition from number eight to hooker and his experiences after.• Brendan's career-ending scrum injury and his perspectives on scrum adjudication.• Contributors to Australian rugby's bad state: dismissals, COVID, commercialization.• The potential that bringing back a sense of community has to reignite Australian rugby's spirit.• Examples of brand ambassadorship shown by Andrew Demetriou and David Gallop.• Cues to be taken from other sports about broadcasters being more critical of administrators.Links from this weeks show: Queensland Reds - Queensland RedsNSW Waratahs - WaratahsWestern Force - Western ForceSt Laurence's College - St. Laurence's CollegeSouths Rugby - Souths Rugby Union ClubWhite Ribbon Day - White Ribbon Day

Host Zack Demopoulos recently attended a ComForCare national conference and had the opportunity to speak with quite a few owners and operators  of ComForCare home care agencies from all over this continent.  He shares some great tips from these passionate providers that come from their experience of hiring many caregivers in these series.  In this episode he interviews Renee Henriques, owner and operator of ComForCare in Toronto Canada.  This show is sponsored by ComForCare, a national home care provider that will help you live your best life possible. In previous Episode 26 and Episode 27   Zack discussed hiring home care to help you care for a family loved one so that they can continue to live at home independently and safely.  Home Care is Day 17 of the 30 Day Preparation Plan to care for an aging adult.   Renee shares personal experience with caring for her father.   Zack:  That’s Renee Henriques.  She owns and operates a ComForCare home care agency in Toronto.  We are going to hear more from Renee in this final episode, episdoe 33, of the series Hiring a caregiver to help you care for your family loved one.    Zack:  I asked Renee how did she know she was cut out for homecare?   Renee:  I have nursing background and have been through the home care experience twice.  There was no private home at the time and she could’ve used it and someone to have coached her along.  Zack:  Let’s go back to the story about Renee’s father.  I asked her what did she learn from that experience.  Renee:   Shares the story about how she handled her father who was confused wandering outside knocking on the doors of his neighbors.  She had to tell him that he had to move and that it was temporary.  She did it out of desperation.   Zack:  He was happier in the last five years of his life than he ever was.  That is a powerful story and brave of Renee to have made that decision and be honest enough to share that with us.  But you ask…what does that have to do with home care?  Who runs a home care agency is just as important as hiring that right caregiver.  With Renee at the helm of her home care operation and with all that personal raw experience,  you will get genuine and appropriate guidance that will steer you in the right direction of your caregiving journey. Renee:   When I meet a family in the beginning of their caregiving journey, they usually do not know where to go and do not understand the system and since I have worked in the healthcare system for a long time I can add that value.  I know the person to sign up for assessment for Canada’s offering of free home care.  Alzheimer Society has great resources.   Zack:  What makes Renee unique is that she offers resources I do not usually hear from others or may not be top of mind, resources that are very valuable for you the caregiver.    Renee:  I offer various caregiver support chat rooms that anyone can access regardless of where you are from.   Zack asks her why is this so important? Renee:  This can help calm a caregiver down.  Better decision making.  It helps in situations where some people may not want care and there are ways to work through that.   Zack:  You see, hiring a caregiver is more than just placing someone in your home.  A good agency should be able to help you, like Renee is suggesting here, with things like dealing with mom or dad who may be very resistant to having a stranger in their house.  Speaking of a caregiver coming to your house, I asked Renee what should a family expect from an agency as far as what they should be providing in way of a qualified and skilled caregiver? Renee:  Caregivers should be bonded, insured.  Agency should be credible in terms of required documentation.  Ongoing education for caregivers.  Ways for the family to get what they need like a schedule and is someone on call 24 hours a day.   Zack:  Renee is obviously very experienced.  I wanted to take advantage of that and asked her to share with us some unique tips that caregivers should consider when caring a family loved one who may be confused or has dementia.  Renee:  One tip is when having a conversation with someone who is confused and they may not want to do what you want them to do is to buy some time.  Help them make that decision by making that time short for them.  Another tip is to avoid phrases such as “remember when”.  Third tip is be aware that they can read your moods.  If you are frustrated they will get frustrated.   This was Episode 33 and our final episode in the 5 part series of talking about hiring a caregiver to help you care for a family loved one.     Thank you for listening to the Raising ‘Rents podcast. If you have any questions or feedback, please go to our website www.raisingrents.com and click on the “Contact” tab.  Let us know about any topics you want covered.  You can also find the show notes and references to anything we talked about.  Until we talk again, remember that our parents raised us, the least we can do is help raise them. Support NoDAPL Prisoners This week, we're excited to share the voices of Jess and Olive, who both did legal support, and do prisoner solidarity with the folks facing Federal prison time from the struggle at Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline. This episode was heavily edited for radio, so I suggest you find our audio at our website or in itunes or soundcloud or youtube or ideally our podcast stream and listen to the podcast version, cuz it is crammed full of great information and perspectives we don't have time to include in the radio version of the show this week. Jess did legal work supporting the struggle in Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline in 2016 and into 2018 and continues to support political prisoners in the case. Olive lived in camp, engaging in nonviolent direct action and working security during the winter (late november-february), survivor of water crises in West Virginia and as a Sundancer. Olive stayed through the raid on Oceti near the end of February 2017 and became a paralegal afterward and doing legal support for their loved one, Rattler. At the end of these notes I've included a few post-scripts from Olive about the folks who caught sentences, Akicita and prophecies of the "Black Snake". We speak about L'eau Est La Vie camp in so-called Louisiana is continuing the struggle against the southern endpoint of the Dakota Access Pipeline from Enbridge.  Visit the site to learn more and how you can get involved, they need help! Support sites for the Federal Prisoners from Standing Rock www.freerattlernodapl.com www.standwithredfawn.org www.freelittlefeather.com www.facebook.com/Justiceforangrybird www.facebook.com/justice4dion www.facebook.com/freelittlefeather www.facebook.com/freeredfawn www.facebook.com/freerattler www.waterprotectorlegal.org Announcements NYE Demo in AVL & Beyond! The day after this airs is New Years Eve and cities around the U.S. and abroad will be continuing the, I believe Greek anarchist, tradition of noise demonstrations outside of jails and prisons. Check out itsgoingdown.org for a list of places holding these where you can join in and be heard behind bars. In Asheville, folks'll be meeting up on College St in front of the court house and jail at 7pm and will bring noise makers, warm clothes, banners and signs. Upcoming BRABC events in Asheville Also this week, Blue Ridge ABC will be showing the latest Frontline/PBS documentary called “Documenting Hate: America's New Nazi's” about the Atomwaffen Division at 6:30pm on Friday, January 4th at Firestorm Books. Also, on Sunday January 6th at Firestorm, BRABC will host it's monthly letter writing event from 5pm to 7pm at Firestorm. No experience necessary. Autonomy, Resilience, Freedom: #J20 Call To Action Finally, The Final Straw Radio alongside It'sGoingDown, crimethInc and Mutual Aid Disaster Relief are calling for a week of action around the weekend of January 20, 2019. With the charges from January 20, 2017 dropped, we can focus on other forms of long-term solidarity and mutual aid, creating a fertile soil for future resistance and creativity. You can find the challenge and ways to plug in at cwc.im/survival Episode Notes from Olive   As an aside, I want to share a little more information from Olive about Akicita: “...Traditionally, Akicita would go to battle as a last resort and were always the last to leave, but they acted as protectors and to hold people accountable and dispense consequences when necessry, one example being on Buffalo hunts; people were not allowed to take more than they needed or to hunt by themselves because it hurt not only other tribal members but the Buffalo population. Akicita made sure the hunts happened with integrity. They also kept Nacas, elders, and the people informed. They were mediators of conflict. They were recognized for acts of bravery and selflessness. “ Also, Olive had these notes to share about the Federal Defendants who've been sentenced: “Little Feather's mother is part of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians in California, so I forgot to mention he is also Morongo in addition to also Lakota and Chumash. Rattler is a descendant of the war chief Red Cloud, who also signed the Ft. Laramie Treaty of 1868, one of the treaties we were defending with our occupation through camp. Rattler's Lakota name is Mato Tanka (Big Bear). Angry Bird's Lakota name is Sunka Wakan Sica (Bad Horse). Not everyone with federal charges are Akicita or Ikce Wicasa. Rattler, Little Feather, and Angry Bird are Akicita and Ikce Wicasa camp security. RedFawn and Dion had other responsibilities and ties to the camps. “ Olive also had this to add about their own participation at Standing Rock: “If it's relevant, I didn't mention another responsiblity I had while being in camp. I formed with two other femme people Two Spirit and Women's security branches so gender queer folks like myself and women/femme people could deal with our own safety/decolonizing issues within camp. This is how I began to work with Akicita security directly. The role of Akicita, the several councils that made up camp for collective decision making, and the ceremonies we participated in were all ways we were actively decolonizing our daily lives and DEFYING state intervention in disputes among our community (concepts of transformative justice try to exert the same concept of "don't call cops, be accountable" but don't necessarily have the structures to do it like traditional indigenous societies have) “ Another addition to the audio that I'd like to include is a short write-up that you can find in our show notes about the concept and Lakota and Standing Rock prophecies of the “Black Snake” which has been applied to the Dakota Access Pipeline “I didn't feel we had the time, but I wanted to at least tell you about some Lakota prophecies related to the "black snake" and historical context of where camp was located. All of this information I have is from Standing Rock elders and Lakota that know their lands well, including Tim Mentz, a Lakota archaeologist from Standing Rock, as well as my own experience from living in camp. Grandfathers, some in the early 1800s, had visions of a "black ribbon on top of the Earth to separate all people...the people wouldn't gather anymore...when the black ribbon goes underneath the Earth there will be no more Lakota." This "ribbon" is seen as pavement and fossil fuels. Prairie Nights Casino was built on top of a known site where ceremonial fasts were held. Cannonball River has buttes, all with names known to the Lakota one being Tipi Butte near the Backwater Bridge. Near Backwater Bridge (where cops kept up barricades after North Camp raid), there are remnants of old Sundance ceremony arbors. October 22nd arrests happened partly because we were protesting the 27 burials that were uprooted for DAPL's access roads that were across from HW 1806. Cannonball Ranch, which was eventually bought by DAPL, had Bear effigies, burials in the four cardinal directions, with at least 82 other sacred sites and ancestral sites of the Lakota. Southwest of where Oceti camp is Horshoe Bend, along the Standing Rock border is Treaty ground where men gathered to discuss the 1851 Treaty (North Camp was actually 1851 Treaty Camp). Spotted Tail (Sicangu band) and Big Head adopted one another around the year 1851 in the same location of Oceti camp. “ . ... . .. Playlist

In already a record year for auto/pedestrian collisions, another staggering statistic was added over the course of Wednesday night/Thursday morning: Fourteen pedestrians were struck by cars between 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, said Toronto police Const. Clint Stibbe. One incident sent an 18-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries. The crash happenedjust before 7:30 a.m. at Islington Ave. and The Queensway. Another woman suffered life-threatening injuries in another collision on College St. near Palmerston Blvd. around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Another pedestrian who was struck by a different vehicle at the intersection was also taken to hospital, said Toronto police. Soggy conditions in the GTA overnight were likely a factor in many of the collisions, says Toronto Police. Toronto Police Constable, Clint Stibbe, joins the Afternoon Drive to discuss why there were so many collisions, and what the city plans to do to prevent these kinds of collisions from taking place.

Cameron Carpenter has been involved in the record industry his whole life. He started off as a journalist for the sole reason of receiving free music to review. Cam has a love of music and a cunning ear for greatness. He picked out an early Steve Earle album that was heading to country radio and managed to get it played on many other types of formats. Because of Cam's insightfulness, Steve Earle became a crossover hit in both the United States, Canada and the world. Cam discovered a young band by the name of Sloan, one of Canada's prized possessions ranked up there with Neil Young and Rush. Cam spent most of his years in the record business as an A+R representative. A+R stands for "Artist and Repertoire," but Cam's definition of the title is "Artist Relations." We talked in his board room on College St. in Toronto about his life, his work, and music.
