And we'd like to note that despite the government closing shop, House Republicans have been on vacation since last week, while House Democrats have been showing up to work. Vice President JD Vance told members of the press Wednesday that the real bad guys in the shutdown fight are Democrats, specifically Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The federal government shut down on Wednesday as President Donald Trump threatened mass federal layoffs. Democrats are making a gamble that voting against a Republican plan to fund the government will be worth the pain of the current shutdown.New Jersey's senior Democratic senator Cory Booker voted against a similar Republican plan to fund the government back in March.
