Aber was steckt dahinter? For most of the time that biochemists have been studying proteins they have preached the widely adopted dogma that structure equals function. Proteins are macromolecules made of chains of amino acids, and as they are produced they fold into intricate and specific shapes. These shapes or ‘structures' are critical to the tasks that they perform, like producing energy for the cell, carrying molecular cargo from one end of the cell to the other, or letting ions across the cell membrane. However, over 30% of the protein humans produce has no specific structure. These are called intrinsically disordered proteins, and only in the last 15 years have they been brought into the spotlight of biochemistry and biophysics research (Structural Disorder in Eukaryotes). Hannah Stuwe is a fourth-year PhD candidate in Biochemistry and Biophysics, and her research revolves around disordered proteins, particularly a protein from SARS-CoV-2 called the nucleocapsid protein. In her work she uses state-of-the-art techniques specifically suited for studying disordered proteins to understand how the flexibility of this protein changes throughout the viral replication cycle.

Ted Jacoby, III (T3): Hello, everyone, and welcome to this month's episode of the Milk Check. Today, we are excited to have Andy Powers, vice president of technical services for the American Dairy Products Institute, joining us. Joining us as well, we have some of our usual suspects. Josh White, vice president of Dairy Ingredients, Diego Carvallo, our Director of International Sales for Dairy Ingredients, and Tristan Suellentrop, our sales associate and resident 20-something on our sales team. Guys, thank you, and Andy, excited to have you with us. Thanks for joining us. Our topic today is: what's the future of dairy? Where do we think demand is going to grow globally in the dairy industry? What are the components that this industry is going to see the greatest demand and opportunity for as we look out over the next 5 to 10 years? Andy, I'll start by saying we just recently had a five 10 year vision conversation within our organization, and one of the things that we spent a lot of time talking about was how dairy proteins, specifically as you look at the way the developing countries and the way their diets are changing and growing and developing when you look at the aging populations of many parts of the world when you look at the addition of medicines like Ozempic and Wegovy, protein is just going to become a bigger and a bigger part of the nutritional profile of what human beings eat. I've got two boys in their twenties, and they are much healthier eaters than I ever was when I was in my twenties. That means they're consuming a lot more dairy protein. Andy Powers: Right. T3: What are your thoughts, and where do you think dairy proteins fit in that space? Andy Powers: First and foremost, because I've worked for the American Dairy Products Institute, you're going to hear me talk about dairy. I drank the Kool-Aid a number of years ago. I believe in dairy's value proposition, and I believe in its strengths in terms of nutrient density and complete nutrition. You talked about some of the driving forces that are going to influence demand for dairy in the future. We've got population growth as the baseline talked about an aging population. I think that's significant. The ongoing current modernization or GDP growth meaning that people can transition from the mos...

Once upon a time there was a girl who thought too much protein would make her look like The Rock. Then she drank the protein juice (literally... there were lots of protein shakes) and she never looked back. Hi there, Kirsten Chick here, back with another instalment of the Nutrition Brought to Life Podcast, and this week we're focussing on Chapter 14: Protein power. Whenever I ask a new group of students why we need protein, the answer is invariably “to build muscles.” Which is correct – but there's so much more to protein than that. Find out more here and in my book, Nutrition Brought to Life - list of stockists and more about me at kirstenchick.com
I would hope you know this, but your body needs protein. Your organs need protein (amongst other things) to function and keep you alive. I went through a table from Johns Hopkins University that lists different amounts of protein in the meats we eat often here in the U.S. Don't worry, my vegans get their share as I cover beans and legumes too. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thebluebandana/message

On today’s episode of JIMMY RANTS on the LLVLC Show, we talk about a new study that looks at low-insulin as a weight loss tool. “When you become insulin resistant, over time your body acts like it has its hands over its ears and stops listening to the signals sent.” - Jimmy Moore If you boil down the most popular diets over the past 20 years—Atkins, Protein Power, Zone, primal, Paleo, Whole30, keto, and carnivore—they all are about lowering inflammation, blood sugar, and insulin levels. So rather than identifying with any particular diet, why don’t we instead look at the end physiologic result? A September 2020 study does just that. German researchers from the Düsseldorf Catholic Hospital published their study entitled “Weight Reduction by the Low-Insulin Method—A Randomized Controlled Trial” in the September 30, 2020 issue of the journal Nutrients. Get the full details along with my running commentary (the good and the bad from the study) in this episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show. Support this show by becoming a Patron at Patreon!
Dr. Michael R. Eades, MD, received his BS in civil engineering from California State Polytechnic University. After working for six years in engineering, he made a career change and enrolled in medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. After residency, Eades, along with his wife, Dr. Mary Dan Eades, MD, started one of the first chains of urgent care centers in the United States. During his career treating patients in urgent care facilities, Eades developed an interest in nutritional medicine. His subsequent work with thousands of overweight patients made clear to him that encouraging a reduction of carbohydrate intake worked better than most medications for obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and a host of other disorders. After years of refining his dietary program, Eades, along with his wife, wrote Protein Power, a book that details their methods and went on to become a New York Times best seller for over a year. Since that time, the Eades have published 13 more books in the medical and nutritional field and authored a top-100 health blog at proteinpower.com. They have appeared on ABC, NBC, CNN, Fox, PBS, and hundreds of local TV and radio programs advocating the low-carbohydrate nutritional approach. Becky Pleat is the CEO & co-founder of Protein Power Ball, a healthy snack company that makes bite-sized protein balls made from sustainable plant-based ingredients. Prior to starting her journey in the consumer packaged goods space, Becky has held numerous roles in the Biotech industry where she was able to combine her knowledge as a pharmacist with various business and entrepreneurial skills to help launch several innovative medications. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and had the opportunity to work with patients directly as part of her training. Through this work, she was able to see first-hand how valuable a wholesome approach to healthy living is and the impact it has on the development of chronic illnesses. This sparked her interest in learning more about managing health by the foods we eat. After years of trial and error with her own nutrition journey, she found the foods that worked and wanted to be able to bring them with her no matter where she went. Fed up with the lack of convenient, on-the-go snacks that provided the right type of nutrition without the added preservatives, she decided to start making her own. Dedicated to creating nutritious snacks and driven by the mantra "food is medicine," Becky and her partner, Aakash, started Protein Power Ball. Peak Human - Unbiased Nutrition Info for Optimum Health, Fitness & Living
Welcome back everyone! Thanks for tuning in and I hope you are putting your health first during this time. In case anyone is wondering, I'm working on the Food Lies film daily and we’re still trying to get it out in the fall right when everything is hopefully back to normal. You can still preorder a copy on Indiegogo and also get great extras like the special features or the Eat Meat shirt. We just sent out the new batch of shirts last week and have about 20 left if people want to jump on those. That's on http://indiegogo.com/projects/food-lies-post and search for Food Lies Post or click through http://FoodLies.org Today Dr. Mike Eades joins me for a really great and comprehensive interview. I’ve been following his work for many years and always enjoy his presentations that can be found on YouTube. We got to hang out all weekend in Denver a little ways back and I got to see another of his amazing presentations live talking about what humans evolved to eat and what happened as we strayed away from that diet. It’s shocking stuff and sure to ruffle the feathers of every single mainstream doctor, dietitian, and nutritionist around. We go over this and much of his other work in this interesting episode. Dr. Michael Eades is a physician and the author of 10 books in the fields of health, nutrition, and exercise over the last several decades––among them the New York Times best seller Protein Power and The Protein Power LifePlan which laid out one of the first nutritional concepts of the paleo lifestyle. Since 1986 Dr. Eades has been in full time practice of bariatric, nutritional, and metabolic medicine. The most entertaining weight loss and fitness podcast show on radio." Please click on the POD button to listen to the latest Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy radio show podcast. On tonight's show, Doctor Fitness and the Fat Guy get the skinny about how a small town girl from Massachusetts becomes a Playboy Playmate. Carrie Stevens, the former Miss June 1997 is now an actress, a model, a television host and writer. She has recently lost over 70 pounds and shares how she did it. She is a writer with The Hot Moms Club and some of her work can be found at www.hmcmagazine.com In the interview she told stories about what it's like at the Playboy Mansion and how dating the drummer for Kiss helped inspire and motivate her to take her career to the level it is today. When her son was born Carrie was over 70 pounds heavier than she was during her Playboy Playmate days and her "friends" at Hef's place doubted she could get her hotness back. That was inspiration enough for Carrie and she worked her butt off to get back to where she was. She takes a lot of pride in achieving all the fitness and weight loss goals she set for herself. Because of her amazing story Carrie was chosen to be the spokesperson for Diet Classics. For more information on what Carrie is up to please check out her website www.carriestevens.com We also got to spend time with Fred Hahn, the author of "The Slow Burn Revolution" His book shows you how slow motion exercising can change your body in less than 30 minutes a week. That's right not 30 minutes a day -- 30 minutes a week. This is perfect for the Fat Guy. He is devouring the book and all the dvds to see if he can do it. Fred says that to lose the weight you have to also implement a protein rich diet that he also covers in his book. Fred's co-authors are: Michael and Mary Dan Eades who wrote Protein Power. Fred's strength training techniques are perfect for the gym and also can be done in your home with stuff you have a round your house. Also once again, I need you to please do me a favor. My nine year kid Max made his radio debut in his new show "Kid Power Radio." This is a great show for your kids.
