The podcast focuses on how the South is portrayed in TV and film. The hosts take a look at the soapy, southern tone of the film along with the colorful cast of characters. We praise the towering presence of Crawford who carries an (at times) silly script in her own original way. Much of the conversation is dedicated to the highlight of the film being the amazing toxic chemistry of Joan Crawford and Sydney Greenstreet in one of cinema's most unlikely rivalries.

EPISODE 33 - “Zachary Scott: Star of the Month (May)” - 04/29/2024 Suave, debonaire, and effortlessly charming, ZACHARY SCOTT is best known for his role in MICHAEL CURTIZ's film noir classic Mildred Pierce (1945). As the duplicitous, silver-tongued charmer Monte Beragon, he romances Mildred, played by JOAN CRAWFORD (in her Oscar-winning role), and Mildred's daughter, Veda (ANN BLYTH). This became Scott's signature role: the sexy cad who was usually at his best swindling, seducing, or being a general scoundrel. It was always fun watching Scott's dastardly ways unfold. He could rock a tux, looked naked without a martini in his hand, and always had a cigarette close by. He was so magnetic that he could even make film-goers feel sorry for him. While he seldom got to play the good guy, when he did, as in what is perhaps one of his best roles in JEAN RENOIR's The Southerner (1945), you realize the versatility that he seldom had the opportunity to display. With a career that included over 40 films and dozens of television roles, ZACHARY SCOTT is our Star of the Month. The Strangest Day: A Journey Through Bizarre EncountersIn life, we often encounter the unexpected. Sometimes, these encounters are so bizarre that they leave us questioning the sanity of the world around us. Such was the case on a particular day when my co-host and I found ourselves in a series of strange situations. From encountering individuals with questionable fashion choices to witnessing a homeless man napping on the freeway, this day was filled with moments that left us scratching our heads in disbelief.In-Depth Exploration of Each ThemeThe Posing TikTokerOne of the first peculiar encounters of the day took place at a restaurant. As we sat down to enjoy our meal, three ladies entered the establishment. At first glance, they appeared to be dressed in formal attire, but upon closer inspection, it became clear that their fashion choices were a bit off. They wore long coats typically paired with dresses and heels, but instead, they were sporting baggy gray sweats. It was a bizarre combination that immediately caught our attention. What made this encounter even stranger was the behavior of one of the ladies. She began posing for what seemed to be a TikTok video, striking various poses and contorting her hand in peculiar ways. It was as if she was completely oblivious to the fact that she was in a public restaurant. We couldn't help but wonder what possessed her to engage in such behavior and why she felt the need to capture these moments on camera. The Homeless Man on the FreewayAs we made our way to our destination, we encountered a sight that left us both concerned and bewildered. On the side of the freeway, there was a homeless man sitting with all his belongings. What made this situation particularly alarming was the fact that his legs were positioned towards oncoming traffic. It was a dangerous position to be in, and we couldn't help but worry about his safety. We immediately called 911 to report the situation, hoping that someone would come to his aid. However, the response we received was less than satisfactory. After being put on hold briefly, we were asked a series of questions about the man's appearance and mental state. It was disheartening to realize that this man's well-being was being reduced to a checklist of symptoms. Nevertheless, we hoped that our call, along with others, would lead to his rescue and a safer environment for him.The Line-Cutting IncidentOur day took another bizarre turn when we decided to stop at a popular coffee shop. The line was long, as expected, but it seemed to be moving smoothly. Each lane had an equal number of cars, and everyone seemed to be following the unwritten rules of waiting their turn. However, one individual had a different idea.A woman in a hurry screeched to a halt in front of us, honking her horn and gesturing angrily. She claimed that someone had cut her off, but it was clear to everyone around that she was the one attempting to cut in line. We calmly pointed out that the line had been moving in an orderly fashion, with each lane taking turns. This only seemed to infuriate her further, and she continued to berate us.Analysis of the Implications and Potential Impact of the ThemesThese encounters may seem trivial on their own, but they reflect a larger issue in our society – a lack of consideration for others. The posing TikToker and the line-cutting incident both demonstrate a sense of entitlement and a disregard for the well-being and comfort of those around them. It is a reflection of a culture that prioritizes self-promotion and personal gain over basic decency and respect. The encounter with the homeless man on the freeway highlights the ongoing struggle faced by those experiencing homelessness. It serves as a reminder that there are individuals in our society who are in desperate need of assistance and support. It is a call to action for us to address the systemic issues that contribute to homelessness and to work towards creating a more compassionate and inclusive society. Conclusion and Future OutlookThe events of this strange day left us with a mix of emotions – frustration, concern, and a renewed sense of empathy. It is important for us to reflect on these encounters and consider the impact of our actions on others. We must strive to be more mindful of the world around us and to treat each other with kindness and respect. As we move forward, let us remember the lessons learned from this day. Let us challenge the culture of entitlement and self-centeredness that permeates our society. Let us extend a helping hand to those in need and work towards creating a more inclusive and compassionate world. Only then can we hope to overcome the strangeness and embrace the beauty of the human experience.Thank you for joining us on this journey through the strangest day we've ever experienced. Remember, life is full of surprises, and it is up to us to navigate them with grace and understanding. Until next time, stay curious and keep questioning the world around you.TimestampSummary[0:00:15]Introduction to the show and shoutout to a friend's podcast[0:01:14]Discussion about traveling on Flamingo Road[0:02:19]Craving pizza and confusion about which location to go to[0:03:36]Arriving at the strip location of the pizza place[0:04:08]Observations of three oddly dressed women in the restaurant[0:05:59]The first weird thing observed: a woman posing for TikTok[0:06:47]The second weird thing observed: a homeless man on the highway[0:08:01]Conclusion of the conversation0:07:52911 call about a person on the highway0:08:23Describing the person on the highway to 9110:09:31Encounter with a rude driver at Dutch Bros0:10:58Discussion about the rude driver's entitlement0:14:05Incident captured on newly installed dash cam0:15:01Excitement about reviewing footage for "What Happens in Vegas"0:14:58Discussing interesting footage from Vegas trip0:15:10Planning to organize footage by date0:15:19Comparing WordPress file structure0:16:00Suggesting organizing special events in separate folders0:16:41Adding subfolders for specific events within date structure0:17:33Recounting strange events of the day0:18:10Suggesting creator hours for recording in public restaurants0:19:04Accusing of being wrong and needing a nap0:19:15Agreeing to take a nap0:19:22Ending the podcast episode

On the night of September 7, 1996, Tupac was shot while sitting at a car at a stoplight at the corner of Flamingo Road & Koval Lane, just east of the Vegas Strip.  He died 6 days later at University Medical Center. The case has remained unsolved for the past 27 years and the circumstances surrounding the murder have been shrouded with uncertainty & speculation with multiple theories floating around on who killed Tupac. Joining me for this episode of the podcast to shed some light on the crime & peel away a few layers of the mystery is true crime author & journalist, Cathy Scott. Cathy is the author of The Killing of Tupac Shakur: Who Did It and Why? which is considered to be one of the best books ever written on the subject of Tupac's murder.  At the time of the shooting, Cathy was working as a reporter for the Las Vegas Sun and she was one of the first people in the world to report Tupac's death. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Casey LaLonde, Grandson of Screen Legend, Joan Crawford About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Casey LaLonde, is the grandson of one of the greatest cinematic legends of all time, Joan Crawford.  In 1947, 7 years after adopting her children Christina and Christopher, Ms. Crawford adopted twin daughters, Cathy and Cindy.    Our guest is the son of Cathy Crawford LaLonde, who, sadly, passed away on January 10, 2020.    Although our guest was only 5 years old when his superstar grandmother, whom he affectionately called “JoJo”, passed away, he has many fond memories of his time spent at her home in New York.  And he's dedicated a great deal of his time and energy in preserving, celebrating and honouring her incredible body of work and legacy.    Joan Crawford made 89 movies, including some of my all-time favourites:  “Grand Hotel”, “The Women”, “A Woman's Face”, “Humoresque”, “Flamingo Road”, “Sudden Fear”, “Autumn Leaves”, “Possessed”, “The Damned Don't Cry”, “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane”, and of course, “Mildred Pearce”, for which she won an Academy Award.  She also appeared in dozens of TV shows including “General Electric Theatre”, “Della”, “The Lucy Show” and “Night Gallery”.   Joan Crawford rose from a youth of dire poverty, and literally reinvented herself, first into a dancer in the roaring 20's, then into a silent screen star, and then into a full-fledged screen goddess.   She was known for her phenomenal work ethic and perfectionism, as well as her incredible devotion to her fans.    After her death in 1977, her eldest daughter Christina published a book entitled “Mommie Dearest”, claiming that Joan was physically and emotionally abusive to herself and her brother Christopher.  The book, which was made into a movie starring Faye Dunaway, was hugely controversial, and was immediately denounced by many of Ms. Crawford's friends and co-workers, as well as by her daughters Cathy and Cindy – although to be fair, some celebrities including Helen Hayes, June Allyson and director Vincent Sherman, while never witnessing any abuse, DID describe Ms. Crawford as an unusually strict parent.    Whatever may be the case, the book and movie had the unfortunate effect of somewhat overshadowing and tarnishing Joan Crawford's well-deserved place as one of the Golden Age of Hollywood's most important and prolific leading ladies.   Her handprints and footprints are in the forecourt at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.  She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  She was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille award at the 1970 Golden Globes.  And the American Film Institute named her the 10th greatest female movie star of all time.    The efforts of our guest, to shine a light on Ms. Crawford's talent and artistic legacy, are greatly appreciated by her legions of fans, including myself. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ https://joancrawfordma.tripod.com/ https://joancrawfordestate.comhttps://hollywoodblends.com/shop/Joan-Crawford-The-Grand-Hotel-Blend-p478701098 #CaseyLaLonde   #JoanCrawford    #harveybrownstoneinterviews

THE MURDER OF TUPAC SHAKUR On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur was shot by an unknown assailant after leaving a boxing event in Las Vegas, Nevada. The BMW in which Tupac was riding headed down Flamingo Road, towards the intersection of Koval Lane when a white 4-door cadillac with California plates rolled up to the passenger side of the vehicle. According to one witness, two men got out of the Cadillac and fired 13 rounds from a Glock .40 caliber handgun at the BMW from less than 13 feet away. Tupac Shakur, sitting in the passenger side of the car, was hit three times, one striking his hip, another his right hand, with the fatal wound to his chest. According to the witness, Shakur attempted to jump into the back seat of the car as he was being shot, but the driver of the vehicle, Suge Knight, pulled Tupac down into the passenger seat. Two tires were punctured in the barrage of gunfire. Knight suffered only a minor wound to his head or neck. After the gunfire had ceased, Knight turns to Tupac and asks "Are you OK Pac?" Tupac Shakur, after seeing blood on Knight's head says, "Me? You're the one shot in the mutha-fuckin' head!"

Fernando Allende breaks the mold. Allende, who reigns as the top box office draw in Latin America, is different; he is the first Latin Adonis to enjoy tremendous success in each of today's top entertainment careers film, television, producer, and as a recording artist and entertainer. Born in Mexico City (his father is Mexican, his mother Cuban and grandparents are Spanish and Puerto Rican). Allende started singing folk tunes when he was seven. By the time he was 15, his intense good looks landed him his first staring role in the film, Maria, opposite Tyrone Power's daughter, Taryn. It was the first of 20 films which have brought him 13 awards. A law career, which he originally intended to follow and pursued at Mexico City's LaSalle University, went by the board as more and more acting offers came his way. Before the pull of Hollywood proved irresistible, Allende also starred in hundreds of serial episodes of Spanish dramatic television. He also had a dozen best selling records, gold single, had his own variety specials and won the Hispanic equivalent of the Oscars and the Emmy in the same year. In 1979, presuming his background would provide a good entry to the US entertainment business; Allende cleaned out his savings account and moved to Hollywood. "I thought my background would open doors", he recalls. Nearly two years filled with knocking on an endless succession of doors and hours of acting, speech, yoga, and singing lessons were to eat up all those savings before he got his first acting job this side of the border. But for Fernando, the wait and the sacrifices were worth it when he was selected to star opposite Joanne Woodward in ABC's The Streets of Los Angeles. And the part opened Hollywood's doors. He immediately segued into a pilot (The Phoenix for ABC), his first English speaking film (Heartbreaker), and his US TV series, "Flamingo Road" where he steamed up the screen for a year and a half as Morgan Fairchild's lover. Allende was quickly signed to be a celebrity spokesman for the Milk Advisory Board's all media advertising in English and Spanish. Then he went on to tape 190 hours of a top Hispanic television show plus making his own special, featuring songs from his first RCA album. A highlight in any actor's career came next. Fernando was signed to star in the plum role of George Mellis, the "Golden-Greek" playboy-sadist in CBS his mini-series, Master of the Game, which broke the stereotype and vastly expanded his acting career. Since then his television career has gone form one success to another. He starred opposite Karen Black in HBO's new series The Hitchhiker; co-starred in more episodic television including Murder She Wrote, Hart to Hart, Glitter, and appeared in an unforgettable episode of Miami Vice. Most recently, television audiences have enjoyed his presence in ABC's Murder in Three Acts (with Peter Ustinov and Tony Curtis) and NBC's The Alamo. Luckily I got to speak to Bill Duke! Film director and actor Bill Duke was born on February 26, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, New York and is the son of Ethel Douglas Duke and William Duke, Sr. After earning his A.A. degree from Dutchess Community College, Duke became interested in the performing arts while attending Boston University, although he initially enrolled as a pre-med student. He eventually majored in theater there and then went on to earn a M.A. degree in fine arts from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Duke later enrolled in the American Film Institute (AFI). Duke began his career as an actor in New York City theaters like The Public Theater and New Federal Theater, performing in plays such as LeRoi Jones' Slave Ship and Melvin Van Peebles’ musical Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death. Duke’s first movie role came in 1976 when he portrayed a fierce young Black Muslim revolutionary named “Abdullah Mohammed Akbar” in Car Wash. Duke’s television directorial debut came in 1982 when he directed episodes of Knot's Landing, Falcon Crest, and Flamingo Road for Lorimar Productions. Duke's most prominent and critically acclaimed television work, however, has been his direction of teleplays for the PBS series American Playhouse including “The Killing Floor,” “A Raisin in the Sun,” and “The Meeting,” a 90-minute drama that depicted an imaginary meeting between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X. During the 1980s, Duke amassed more than 100 television directing credits, including more than 70 episodes of roughly 20 television series such as Miami Vice, Dallas, Crime Story, Cagney and Lacey and Hill Street Blues. Duke directed his first feature film in 1990, a film adaptation of Chester Himes' novel A Rage in Harlem. Duke went on to direct many other films including Deep Cover, Sister Act 2, Hoodlum and Deacons for Defense. In 2004, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Duke to the California Film Commission, which works to enhance the economic climate of the state by keeping film industry jobs in California. Duke also works with non-profit and charity organizations such as Educating Young Minds, an organization that helps inner-city students excel at school and in life. Duke is the recipient of numerous awards including the AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the NAACP’s Special Award for Outstanding Achievement, SCLC’s Drum Major for Justice Film Award and a Cable Ace Award. President Bill Clinton appointed Duke to the National Endowment for the Humanities. If you are a fan of mystery novels or books with horse racing themes, you are going to love Elise’s guest today on the Because Of Horses podcast, Sasscer Hill. She’s a novelist, former thoroughbred breeder, and an amateur steeplechase jockey, and her evocative storytelling is "can't-put-it-down" entertaining, with frequent comparisons to the legendary Dick Francis. Sasscer sets her award-winning novels against a background of big money, gambling, and horse racing. Her first book in the “Nikki Latrelle” series, Full Mortality, was nominated for both an Agatha and a Macavity award. And recently, she has written a new award-winning series featuring protagonist “Fia McKee.” The first book in the series, Flamingo Road, was released in April 2017 and was just honored with the Tony Ryan Book Award... ironically, beating nominee Felix Francis – Dick Francis' son!  Sasscer's second book in the series, The Dark Side of Town, came out just a few weeks ago. Tune in to this episode with Elise and Sasscer Hill to hear more about her experiences as a young girl being mentored by incredibly kind and world-renowned equestrians; how she has explored her interests in racing, breeding, and writing; and about the process, plots, and characters behind her award-winning novels.   Topics of Discussion: [:46] About Elise’s guest today, Sasscer Hill. [2:19] What stands out for Sasscer when she looks back at the path that led her to become a distinguished author. [4:50] Has Sasscer always known what she wanted to do? And did she always plan on having horses in her life? [6:35] When did Sasscer have the epiphany that she could make writing her career? [9:22] About the two people Sasscer dedicated her first book to (Rhoda Christmas Bowling and Alfred Smith Sr.) and what their kindness meant to her and to her career. [16:10] Ways the Smith family continued to help Sasscer throughout her life — and the monumental race that she won in 1986. [18:27] Reading listener feedback! [19:52] Elise and Sasscer talk about the exhilarating experience that is steeplechasing. [22:04] Sasscer’s story of buying a dubious mare who went on to change her breeding career. [25:47] Sasscer’s take on crafting a well-realized plot with the added component of getting the “horse side” right. [26:33] Elise reads one of Sasscer’s reader reviews that truly captures the appeal she holds for horse-loving book-people. [27:27] What it means to Sasscer to read such fantastic reviews of her books and how she feels when she meets readers in person at book signings and other author events. [29:15] Because of the characters' authenticity and how real-to-life her books are, has Sasscer encountered some readers who believe the books' plots are more fact than fiction? [34:12] When Sasscer finds herself at a race track, does she envision future stories and plots? And how she gets subject matter expert guidance on plot elements and storylines. [36:38] How does Sasscer meet horse racing and police experts, and gain their agreement to work with her? [40:19] Thanking listeners who have recently made a donation to the podcast! [41:14] How Sasscer originally found out about the TRPB and how she used them as inspiration in her newest book series with protagonist “Fia McKee.” [45:26] Sasscer talks about the plot of her newest novel, The Dark Side of Town, and how it continues Fia McKee’s character arc from her last book, Flamingo Road. [51:05] Sasscer speaks about her award nominations. [52:28] A preview of next week’s Because of Horses, with guest, Paula Josa Jones. [53:19] Beyond a “horse book” --  You don’t have to be in the horse world or be invested in horses to read Sasscer Hill’s (and Dick Francis’) books. Author and former jockey Sasscer Hill has been inspired by both her literary heroes and her real life when it comes to writing her horse racing thrillers. Anyone who knows me well knows what a loon I am about the late author Dick Francis. He was a champion jockey in the UK, who rode for the Queen Mother among others, before he became a bestselling author. My guest today, Sasscer Hill, shies away from comparisons to Francis, but I suspect her horse racing novels might appeal to Dick Francis fans among my listeners. Sasscer endeared herself to me by not only citing Francis during our interview, but also two of my other favorite authors; Robert B. Parker and Walter Farley. Our conversation felt like a match made in heaven. ;-) In other mystery novel news, It's a Mystery Podcast guest Peter Bartram (episode #27) has a new trilogy of books out this month in his Colin Crampton 1960s journalism series. You can learn more about the Morning, Noon, and Night trilogy at ColinCrampton.com. You can find out more about today's guest, Sasscer Hill, and all her books on her website SasscerHill.com. You can also find her on Twitter @SasscerHill. Click on any of the book covers to go to Sasscer's books on Amazon. Press play (above) to listen to the show, or read the transcript below. Transcription of Interview with Sasscer Hill Alexandra: Hi, mystery readers, this is It's a Mystery Podcast. I'm your host Alexandra Amor, and I'm here today with Sasscer Hill. Hi, Sasscer. Sasscer: Hi, how are you? Alexandra: I'm good. How are you? Sasscer: I'm feeling very well, thank you. Alexandra: Oh, good. Well, let me give our listeners an introduction to you. Author Sasscer Hill was involved in horse racing as an amateur jockey and has been a racehorse breeder for most of her life. She sets her novels against a background of big money, gambling, and horse racing. Her mystery and suspense thrillers have received multiple award nominations. Her first book in the Nikki Latrelle series, "Full Mortality" was nominated for both an Agatha and a Macavity Best First Book Award. Sasscer has written a new series for St. Martin's Minotaur. One of the new books in this Fia McKee series won the Carrie McCray 2015 Competition for First Chapter of a Novel, as well as the 2015 Claymore Award Nomination. The first book in the series, "Flamingo Road," was published April 18th, 2017, and we'll talk about that a little later in the interview. I want to start out first to talk about the Nikki Latrelle book. Tell us a little bit about Nikki and her background. Sasscer: Nikki is younger than my new heroine, Fia McKee. Nikki is only 23 years old, and her story is that her mother died when she was very young and left her in the hands of a stepfather, who was also, it turned out, once the mother was gone, she knew for sure that he was a pedophile, and before she'd only been...knew something was wrong. So what she did was in the middle of the night, she escaped out of her window and ran through the streets of Baltimore, you know, in bad areas, and made it to Pimlico Race Track and, climbed over the wire fence, and dropped down into the back stretch of Pimlico, and somehow managed to make a new life for herself because she couldn't go home. Alexandra: She was a teenager when this happened, correct? Sasscer: Yes, she was 13 when that happened. And the first story opens when she's 23 and she's become a jockey. Interestingly enough after I did the whole three series for Wildside Press, and I got the rights back, and I redid the covers and published the books myself. I wrote a prequel, which does go back to when Nikki was 13. I really enjoyed doing it because I had always had the story in the back of my mind. You know how when you're an author,

The Nikki Latrelle Mystery Novels are set in the high-stakes world of horse racing -- a world Sasscer Hill knows well and captures in vivid detail. It's impossible to talk about horse racing mysteries without giving a nod to the master, Dick Francis. But Sasscer was also influenced by Walter Farley's Black Stallion series, which she devoured as a child. She also gives a shout out to Tami Hoag and Margaret Maron, and to Dick's son, Felix, whose new series is set in the same realm as Sasscer's soon-to-be-released Fia McKee series. The first book in Sasscer's new series, Flamingo Road, comes out in early 2017.  Check out Sasscer's blog for ongoing updates as well as more info on Irish Travelers, Fia McKee, and horses.  ;-)  As always, if you'd rather read than listen, a transcript is below. Enjoy! Transcript of Interview with Sasscer Hill Laura Brennan: My guest today is thriller author, amateur jockey and racehorse breeder, Sasscer Hill. Her Nikki Latrelle mysteries are set in a world she knows well: behind the scenes at -- and on -- the racetrack. Sasscer, thank you for joining me. Sasscer Hill: I'm delighted to be here. LB: I absolutely want to talk about writing and your books, but first, I want to talk about horses. You grew up around horses? SH: I did. I took a lot of riding lessons as a child, but it wasn't until my father died when I was 16 and a gentleman who had a lot of champion steeplechase horses took me under his wing -- he was a family friend that my family had known. And I learned almost everything I know about horses from him. And then of course I ended up buying a broodmare and had my own race horses for 30 years. So, yeah, I know a little bit race horses and horses in general. LB: It's just an, it's an entirely different world than anything I've experienced. How did you start riding competitively? SH: The gentleman who took me under his wing, as I said, was a big-time steeplechase person, and so of course he was involved in the sport. And I loved it from the get-go. I just thought it was the coolest thing in the world, racing over fences. But scary, you know? And I ended up entering some amateur, little steeplechase races and it was scary as heck, but it was a real adrenaline rush. And a lot of fun. So I stuck with that and won a big race up in Potomac one year when I was 36, and that was my big day. But it is, you connect with horses. When you're really connecting with the horse, it's like you steer him with your mind. It's incredible. LB: Well, you give your horses, and the books, they have so much personality. SH: Oh, they do in real life, not just in books. They have tremendous personality. LB: So you turned to writing, with a T, and why mysteries? What linked racing with murder for you? SH: Oh, Dick Francis, for sure. And I started out of course with Walter Farley's Black Stallion books, and they were always filled with intrigue. And of course like all of us mystery lovers, who didn't love Nancy Drew? And all those kinds books as we grew up, and as we got older we were reading all those wonderful English writers like Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie and I mean I just loved all of those. And of course I graduated to Dick Francis and that was it for me. I thought, boy, I'm gonna write like Dick Francis -- or at least in the tradition of. Nobody can write like Dick Francis, and to try, I thought, would be very foolish. Just in the tradition of. LB: I think there's a commonality though, between you and Dick Francis, in that racing comes first for your main character. SH: It does, for Nikki Latrelle. In the new books that are coming out with St. Martin's, it still at the racetrack, but now instead of a jockey, I'm dealing with a female agent who works for the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau. And that's kind of a different story line, but still it's all about the horses. Because the stories wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the horses at ...

No bah hum-buggin around Director's Club this time of year.  I managed to enlist two of my favorite people to listen to -- of course, former co-host and podcast emeritus Patrick Ripoll is back not only for Episode 99, but for Episode 100 in January!  Also recruited this time is the great Sergio Mims of WHPK, who always comes on this time of year to talk about a classic director.  This time, we're focusing on the anti-auteur Michael Curtiz.  Yes, he did CASABLANCA, one of the greatest films ever made, but we touch on a myriad of other titles including THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH & ESSEX, THE SEA HAWK, THE BREAKING POINT, FLAMINGO ROAD, DODGE CITY and so much more! There's a brief mention of STAR WARS at the very end as well as a welcome (?) digression Jim and Patrick style as they attempt to wrap things up.  The big news is that Episode 100 is finally arriving in two weeks.  It will be a combination Best of 2015 episode of course, but joining us is friend and favorite Bill Ackerman, who will be asking us questions about what it's like hosting Director's Club.  Submit all feedback and 2015 favorites to directorsclubpodcast@gmail.com.  You must get your emails in by Sunday, January 3rd at midnight!00:00 - 01:46 - Introduction01:47 - 02:47 - Director's Song By Patrick & Regina02:48 - 43:59 - THE EGYPTIAN, THE PRIVATE LIVES ELIZABETH & ESSEX, THE BREAKING POINT, FLAMINGO ROAD, BRIGHT LEAF, etc.44:00 - 01:15:54 - ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES, YANKEE DOODLE DANDY, DODGE CITY, THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD, THE SEA HAWK, etc.01:15:55 - 01:40:25 -  WHITE CHRISTMAS, CASABLANCA01:40:26 - 01:56:42 -  Top 3 Curtiz / Sergio's Outro01:56:43 - 02:07:55 -  Patrick & Jim Ramble / Outro Thank you so much for listening and stay tuned for what will most likely be our longest and most long-winded episode to date come the first week of January!  Remember:  directorsclubpodcast@gmail.com.  January 3rd is your deadline.
