This Tuesday show starts with Iran violates ceasefire with Israel. In Kim on a Whim changing of a street name in Vancouver because the guy it was named after was racist. Finally, Nordstrom announces it's leaving the Galleria Mall.
“Wait… his real name is Loony Toon?”In this episode, Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray dive headfirst into a whirlwind of bizarre headlines, starting with a manhunt in Oregon for a suspect whose actual legal name is—yes—Looney John Franklin Toon. The crew can barely keep it together as they riff on the absurdity of a real-life “Looney Toon” firing shots and quoting Yosemite Sam during a police chase. Skin's deadpan delivery of “Did they ask him what's up, doc?” sends the studio into a spiral of laughter. But the chaos doesn't stop there. The team then unpacks a terrifying hot air balloon accident in Brazil, blending genuine concern with their signature comedic timing. Ben's fear of “dangling in the sky surrounded by fire” leads to a surprisingly deep (and funny) reflection on irrational fears. And just when you think it can't get weirder, they break down a viral video of a man jumping two stories at the Galleria Mall—landing on an ice rink and breaking both legs while casually checking his phone. This episode is a masterclass in blending absurd news with razor-sharp wit. Whether you're here for the laughs, the camaraderie, or the sheer unpredictability of what comes next, this one's a must-listen.

Beamer is in for Bauerle today and we touch on the Buffalo Common Council approving a new $622 million budget, we talk about a local publication's coverage of migrant families being detained by CBP at the U.S./Canada border, and after another stabbing over the weekend at the Walden Galleria, we ask, what is the solution for the Galleria, why are we seeing these incidents with more frequency there and what can be done to make it safer?
Today on the program, Beamer re-visits PBS' election night coverage, and exposes the left wing bias there, thus begging the question, should the public be funding something that as acting as a mouthpiece for a political party/ideology? Also, Beamer touches on the story out of the Walden Galleria, which was swept by police, in what was described as a proactive measure to prevent violence. Does this quell any safety concerns you may have about the Walden Galleria or make you think twice about going there? Also, to round this out, Beamer touches on the bill recently signed into law by New York State Governor Kathy Hochul that will punish companies for their greenhouse gas emissions.

In 2009 – against the backdrop of the Great Recession – more than 50 trailblazing students walked through the hallowed halls of the Galleria Mall at University Square, up a rickety escalator to a space that used to serve as a movie theater to guinea pig a new and novel approach to Higher Education in the 21st century. A prosecutor in suburban Chicago said Tuesday that the gunman accused of attacking an Independence Day parade has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder.Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart promised that dozens more charges would be sought. He added that the suspect, if convicted of murder, would receive a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. The gunman who attacked an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago, killing at least seven people, legally bought two high-powered rifles and three other weapons despite authorities being called to his home twice since 2019 after he threatened suicide and violence, police said Tuesday.A spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force told a news conference that the suspected shooter, who was arrested late Monday, used a high-powered rifle “similar to an AR-15" to spray more than 70 rounds from atop a commercial building into a crowd that had gathered for the parade in Highland Park, an affluent community of about 30,000 on the Lake Michigan shore.READ MORE: https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/nation-world/police-highland-park-parade-gunman-fired-more-than-70-rounds-wore-disguise/507-92739728-ca10-4435-8b89-ca8887105b47 There could be an escape from traffic in a popular Rock Hill area. A brand-new road extension behind the Galleria Mall is now open, connecting Galleria Boulevard to Red River Road. County leaders said the newly paved 2,000-foot addition will help ease congestion on Dave Lyle Blvd.Less than a week since its debut, residents are already seeing a difference.“I can actually take that backroad to get to work a lot quicker," Rock Hill resident Phillip Ingram said. "It cuts out a lot of traffic lights for those mornings that I wake up and I'm running a little bit late."The $7 million project is paid for by the Pennies for Progress tax. Patrick Hamilton, who oversees the program, said the road has been planned since the first section of Galleria Boulevard was built years ago, and it is designed with future development in mind.“We don't want somebody to come in and tear up the road in a few years to add in driveways or turn lanes," Hamilton said. "Those features are already there so whenever it does get built out, the road will not be torn back up to make those improvements." https://www.wcnc.com/article/traffic/new-road-helps-rock-hill-traffic/275-d2b2c263-28fd-469f-a622-87c385a74c37Watch Wake Up Charlotte each weekday morning from 4:30 to 7 a.m. on WCNC Charlotte, and as always, join the conversation on social media using #WakeUpCLT!

You would think that being someone that photographed the brutal, blood spitting, hard hitting. Board crunching game of hockey would have little connection to the pristine world of the pristine world of weddings. weddings where little girls have dreamed of that perfect, romantic day since they were seven. You would also think that brides want to see nothing but the beautiful details of their perfect wedding day reflected back at them by the photographer that they were choosing. We talked on Thursday's episode about storytellers having the ability to transcend industries. It's actually even more powerful than that. The skill allows you to blend your skills within your industry, allowing you to be specific and niched while also having a chameleon-like ability to cover more ground. Creating that skill and understanding allows you to grab opportunities that you normally might not have a shot at. Deep into our wedding photography career, I met with a bride and her dad about her upcoming nuptials. Our approach to meeting with a bride was very simple. I brought two briefcases- both with a beautiful, modern and custom designed wedding album. Those albums allowed us to show two full weddings, start to finish, displaying not only our storytelling abilities but the way we captured moments, the way that we saw light and the quality of our albums. One evening, before I was to meet with a potential client, I picked up a copy of a magazine that I had been impatiently waiting for. It was an issue of Sports Illustrated, but not just any issue of SI. It was the issue that- after years of trying- had one of my images prominently displayed. A few months earlier, I had shot a picture of Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby that was selected by their editors to be the main, two page wide photograph that would lead off the featured story that they wrote about him. I could barely contain my excitement. Sports Illustrated was my favorite magazine growing up and it was one of my biggest dreams to get a prominent spot in their magazine, When I got the copy in my hand, I stared at it way longer than I should have. I thought back to all of the years where I made no money in the industry. In fact, I made a grand total of twenty thousand dollars in my first six years of shooting, including my time at school. So many emotions flooded my head as I stared at that paper. Wanting to show my friend, I placed one of the copies in my briefcase that held the wedding albums. At the meeting with the bride that night, she showed up with her parents. She seemed to really enjoy our work and the conversation was good but by no means sis I get the vibe that this was a slam dunk. Sometimes, you just know. We can tell by their language that they were going to book us, they just needed to meet in person and make sure that we weren't complete lunatics before they signed the check. This meeting wasn't the case. She was clear that they had met with a handful of other photographers and they would make their decision once they evaluated all of the options. At the end of the meeting, as I put the album back in the case, I saw the Sports Illustrated at the bottom. “Would you like to see something cool before you go?,” I asked, completely unscripted. After they agreed, I pulled out the magazine and showed them my image. “You shot that?” The bride asked. I went into full storytelling mode. I told them the entire story, including how I had such a bad back problem that I almost didn't make it to the game. I could hardly walk and was awaiting a possible surgery, but I couldn't turn down this assignment. It was with a new agency and I wouldn't get future work if I said no. I then told the story about how, because of the back pain and getting no sleep the night before, I not only forgot to bring my camera batteries to the arena but how I mistakenly brought one of our broken cameras! The entire afternoon was a comedy of errors that kept leading down a darker, more painful path. They knew that the day would end positively, judging by the picture in the magazine, but they were transfixed on each word that I said. I made sure I took my time and let them feel what I was feeling. They couldn't get enough. I then described the end of the game, when that image was made. Usually, if I'm in good health, I leave my spot to rush back to the photo room to transmit the images and then get out to beat traffic. But I was in so much pain that I sat in my seat a little longer. While I sat there, the team announced the three stars- the top players from the game. Crosby was the number one star, and with nothing but a spotlight on him, he skated onto the ice, waved his stick while somehow glancing at me, and I took one shot. What I went to transmit, I didn't think much of the image. I needed to send twenty images to the agency. I had sent nineteen. I chose that for the twentieth. That was the image that they selected. This bride and her parents sat with their mouths open. They looked at each other. They looked at me. They looked at the photograph. “We want you for our wedding,” she declared. Not surprisingly, I keep that image in the briefcase. It became a routine that near the end of the meeting I would say, “do you want to see something cool?”. One night, during a meeting with a bride and her dad on the second floor of The Galleria Mall, I asked the same question at the meeting. By now, I had this story down. I know all of the details, I figured out what made people gasp, I knew which words to emphasize. I was almost like it was a part of a show. The dad, a highly successful attorney who was hard to impress, looked towards her daughter with a mafia-like nod. “If you are good enough for the Penguins,” he declared, “ you are good enough for my daughter.” He pulled out his checkbook and handed me a six thousand dollar check. It took me six years to make twenty thousand dollars in photography. It took me less than two weeks to make more than twenty thousand dollars with just one photograph. That's the power of storytelling. And the greater power of using your storytelling to convey a feeling that allows you to stand out in a sea of sameness. Going into those meetings, our company was just one of many. But after hearing that story, we immediately formed a connection that not only won them over but won them over in a way that they were so excited to not only have a wedding photographer that they wanted but one who used the same camera to shoot their pictures that were used to photograph their heroes. Those were the words that one bride told her dad literally moments before they walked down the aisle.

Of course there was some Donald Trump talk too because of his amazing ability to double down on the dumbest things. And finally, we take some questions from the listeners about things in their life like: Should a guy considered the A-hole if he plays by the rules and the perception of others is in direct opposition of that? We discuss all of this and much much more on this episode of the Q!
On today's episode:There are many questions, but few answers about the shooting that occurred at the Riverchase Galleria located in Hoover, AL. This shooting hit very close to home for me as Alabama is my home state. When we think about shootings, many never imagine it will happen to them or near them, but this hopefully will change many perspectives. We are in a world that answers too many situations with guns. When will this STOP?My prayers go out to the Bradford family and all other families involved. Thanks for listening to The Juice Talk Radio Podcast.

Nasir and Matt recap how some shopping mallsrequired stores to be open on Thanksgiving. Full Podcast Transcript NASIR: Welcome to our podcast where we cover business in the news and add our legal twist. We are starting an hour later than we originally scheduled, but you don’t know that. MATT: And, really, neither did I until I looked at the clock. NASIR: Oh, yeah, and my name is Nasir Pasha. MATT: And I’m Matt Staub, and I guess we’re technically starting earlier. NASIR: Because of the holidays, that’s true. MATT: Yeah, we’re a day early – a day and an hour early. We won’t reveal what day or time we normally record. NASIR: That’s a secret. MATT: I think it’s pretty obvious we’re recording dead middle of Thanksgiving Day. NASIR: Yeah. MATT: Sitting in a table, surrounded by thirty people. NASIR: I have actually turkey in my mouth right now. MATT: Well, I guess, by the time this comes out, it’ll be past Thanksgiving. NASIR: I’m sure, like, at this time, all the local news channels will be doing the stories of all the chaos from last Friday and people running each other over, et cetera. But we’re not going to do that. MATT: Yeah, and you won’t be there, obviously, because you opted outside. NASIR: By the time this came out, I definitely opted outside. Hopefully, I hashtagged #optoutside in something or other. It may rain that day but, either way, I’ll be outside. MATT: Yeah, you can still be outside when it’s raining. That’s fine. NASIR: Oh, yeah, we’ll be hiking – you know, West Texas. Don’t stalk me there. MATT: So, what we’re going to talk about, it’s pretty interesting and, you know, I never really thought about this being the possibility before but, I don’t know, to me, malls – shopping malls – are kind of going out of style, almost, it seems like. NASIR: I think the traditional one is. But then, again, I mean, I have Galleria Mall right next to, you know, I’m right in the middle of the Galleria and it’s a pretty famous mall – at least in Houston – and it’s a very traditional indoor mall but it’s just huge and it has a bunch of stores. But I agree with you; that kind of style does seem to be kind of old or out of fashion. MATT: Yeah, and the reason I said “the typical shopping mall,” it’s different from obviously like a strip mall or even the open air – is it called “open air malls”? Is that what those are called? NASIR: Yeah, like in Fashion Valley Mall or Mission Valley Mall. MATT: Yeah. NASIR: What’s the one downtown? Horton Plaza. MATT: Yeah, but that’s the point. You know, for those, every store has its own entrance into the store – well, I guess it’s the same case for shopping malls. In shopping malls, you have to go through some sort of department store, usually, in order to get to the actual other stores, right? NASIR: Yeah. MATT: That’s the way you get in most of the time. I guess, sometimes, there are other ways. But, anyways, this is in Concord, California – the Sun Valley Shopping Center. I guess the department stores which they’re referring to as kind of the anchors of the shopping mall were going to be open on Thanksgiving Day so the mall is making these other stores that are not the main anchors of the shopping mall also be open on Thanksgiving Day. I believe, in this example, they are required to be open from 6:00 p.m. until at least midnight on Thanksgiving Day with the option of remaining open until 5:00 a.m. the next morning. This wasn’t a “Hey, this is a suggestion because there’s going to be a lot of foot traffic, et cetera.” This is the owner saying all these stores are required to be open from 6:00 p.m. to midnight whether you like it or not which I have a few questions about but, from a reasonableness standpoint, this can’t go over too well with a lot of these stores, I would think. NASIR: Yeah, for some of them, it may be a surprise. Let’s just give some benefit of the doubt that they can legally do this, but how can a landlord make you stay open and,

A CBC “Off the Beaten Track” episode in which I talk traveling to Boston for Prince Edward Islanders. Originally aired on August 18, 2000 on CBC Radio’s Mainstreet program in Prince Edward Island. As with all of these pieces, I prepared a script for host Matthew Rainnie and me; it went like this: Peter’s Boston Survival Guide Introduction: It’s easy for Islanders to get to Boston. We should do it more often. This is the six-minute guide to getting to Boston in one piece and having fun while there. Step One: Getting to Boston The best flight to Boston is the 6:15 a.m. Air Nova flight direct from Charlottetown, which arrives in Boston 2 hours later at 9:13 a.m. It costs a lot to stay in Boston – might as well maximize your time there by arriving early! The earlier you reserve this flight the better – it can range anywhere from $250 to $1200. There are usually seat sales three or four times a year. As usual, it’s cheaper to fly if you stay over a Saturday night. You only need 15,000 Aeroplan or Canadian Plus points to get to Boston. The flight takes about ½ an hour to get to Halifax, then you have a ½ hour wait, and then it’s about an hour to get to Boston. Step Two: In from the Airport Boston’s Logan Airport is located just across Boston Harbor from downtown Boston. You can take a taxi, a bus, a limousine – even a water taxi – but the best way to get to downtown Boston is by subway – known in Boston as “the T.” It costs only 85 cents, and it tales about ½ an hour to get downtown. Go out of the terminal building to the ground transportation area and look for the signs to “Logan Shuttle” – this is a free bus that takes you to the Airport subway station. Make sure you get on the right bus – not all of them stop at the subway station, but they’re all clearly marked. Once you get to the “T station” you pay your 85 cents and get on the subway – make sure you’re getting on the one going downtown – just ask the person in the toll booth. About 9 minutes later, you’re downtown! Step Three: Where to Stay? Boston is a really expensive place to stay! If you’re willing to stay in the suburbs you can find a good room for less than $100/night. In general, the closer you are to the heart of Boston, the more you’re going to pay and to stay downtown means paying $150 to $300 (or more!) a night. My picks for places to stay are: Susse Chalet Boston One of a chain of New England budget hotels Basic accommodations, but clean and well-located Make sure you stay at the Boston one, not the Cambridge one (Cambridge location is right on the highway, and very noisy!) Has a pool; is next door to a bowling center; has a restaurant; Burger King is around the corner. Not right on the subway, but they have a free shuttle that will take you there. About $100/night. Newbury Guest House and the Harborside Inn Sister properties – one located on Newbury Street (the chichi shopping district of Boston) and the other located just of Quincy Market right downtown. Small and friendly. Clean rooms, a step up from the Susse Chalet. Very nice continental breakfast is included. Can’t beat the location – both are located in the heart of very interesting neighbourhoods. $110 to $160/night, depending on the time of year. The College Club My personal favourite place to stay. Located in an historic building very near Boston Common, right in the heart of the city. Started life as a private club for college women; now invites the public to stay in its guest rooms. The rooms are small; sometimes you have to share a bath down the hall. Rooms have a lot of character – books and magazines, antique furnishings, large windows. But there’s a good breakfast included, you’re in the heart of the city and a block from the subway, and the building is beautiful. And the rooms go for $55 to $85/night, which is a great deal for Boston. Step Four: What to do? It’s easy to get around on foot or on the subway – there’s very little need for a car. You can get a free subway map from toll collectors. You could spend weeks in Boston and never run out of things to do. Here are some “must see” things: Go to the top of the John Hancock Tower. It’s a little expensive at $6 a person, but you get a great view of the entire city, and there’s an interesting presentation about the history of the city. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, right around the corner from the Museum of Fine Arts, is a fantastic building which houses the personal collection of Isabella Stewart Gardner, who was a wealthy patron of the arts. The building is in the style of a 15th century Venetian palace, and is as interesting as the art. The Nostalgia Factory in North Boston, which is the Italian district of the city, is a cramped little second-floor store, very hard to find. They have a collection of 30,000 historic movie posters, lobby cards, photographs, books, and magazines. While in North Boston, eat at Ida’s Restaurant. Like the Nostalgia Factory, it’s cramped and hard to find, but they serve wonderful homemade Italian food. Kendall Square Cinema over the Charles River in Cambridge is an “art house multiplex” and always has interesting movies playing. It’s kind of hard to get to: you go to the Kendall ‘T’ stop, and then take a free shuttle bus to the Galleria Mall. While you’re on the Cambridge side of the Charles River, you can try Fire & Ice, which is a weird sort of “make your own meal” restaurant, where you assemble a collection of meat and vegetables and spices and then have them cooked for you on a huge 8-foot diameter grill. Finally, my favourite place in Boston is Filene’s Basement, which sells a motley collection of seconds, overruns and liquidated clothing at prices that gradually go down to zero as time marches on. If you’re wily, you can buy an entire wardrobe for under $100. When you’re at Filene’s, be sure to eat at Chacarero, a small Chilean takeout stand in the same building that sells a most amazing sandwich the core ingredient of which is steamed green beans. Step Five: Coming back to PEI. There’s a 6:00 p.m. flight from Boston to Charlottetown every day, which lets you still a full day in Boston after checking out of your hotel. Many hotels, esp. smaller ones, have a luggage room where you can leave your things after you check out. Remember that you have a $50 exemption from duty if you’re gone for 24 hours or more, a $200 exemption if you’re gone for 48 hours or more, and a $750 exemption if you’re gone for more than a week.
