Dean and Paula continue their interview with Harry Roberts on the topic of Zwift. Harry has been riding on Zwift since it was in beta and he is also Dean's brother. They discuss tips and tricks for racing, a variety of challenges within the game, and issues with cheating. With Harry's profession being plumbing, heating, and cooling, he shares his cooling strategy to race indoors in hot conditions. Harry gives kudos to some of his friends and calls out other friends. Some of those mentioned are Bryan Reynolds, Chris Sampley, Chad Heady, and Kevin Brown. Paula also shares her nutrition plan for the Boston Marathon. RyR is a team of runners and triathletes who receive comprehensive and customized coaching. The team name has dual meanings. The first is based in Hebrews 12:1 in which Christians are instructed to run the race set before us. In this context, RyR stands for Run your Race, with an emphasis on meeting you (the athlete) where you are and coming alongside you to help you reach your goals. The verse emphasizes patience, endurance, and perseverance. These qualities are essential for success as both athletes and coaches. The second meaning is based on the enduring friendship and marriage between the founding coaches, Dean and Paula Roberts. In this context, RyR stands for Roberts and Roberts. While our primary mission is to help athletes set and reach fitness and performance goals, we understand that this must occur within the context of each athlete's daily life. We strive to form an individual relationship with each athlete and make sure weekly training fits seamlessly into family life and work schedules.

Everyone Dies In Sunderland: A podcast about growing up terrified in the eighties and nineties
On July 1st 2010 Raoul Moat was released from Durham prison. 5 days later - after the largest manhunt in Northumbria Police history – he would be dead, having shot three people, declared war on the police, seen 35,000 people join a supportive Facebook group and had a football legend in a dressing gown turn up to take him fishing. But he was an utter dullard and we couldn't care less. This week we instead take a look at a remarkably similar case from 100 years earlier which saw a man called Tommy Craig also leave prison with murderous vengeance against his former fiancée and the authorities on his mind – and also accumulating an alarming amount of fans as he carried out his awful acts.We also take a look at Harry Roberts, another surprisingly popular cop killer, “creative” baker and maddeningly competent driver FROM WHOM THERE IS MERCH AVAILABLEAnd because we have a format to stick to we also travel back to 2010, the year of the Icelandic Ash Cloud, Deepwater Horizon, Swine Flu and, worst of all, Nick Clegg. Along the way, there's also time to remember the Myrka, an unconvincing monster from Doctor Who, and Cyril Smith, an actual monster. Along the way: John checks a healthy child into intensive care so he can go for a Nandos! Gareth is a fox apologist! Claire kills another dog! Former Spurs midfielder David Howells swallows his tongue! One of British Sea Power falls out of a tree! Mark Quinn said it best, "We don't want retailers to survive. We want them to thrive." In this week's episode, we reveal the name of our new book, "Come Back to Bed: Attract More Foot Traffic And Make People Fall In Love With Your Store. " As your Sleep Industry Guides, Dos Marcos has traveled the mattress universe looking for tried-and-true foot traffic drivers. Over the years we've gathered dozens of ideas that have been implemented by real retailers. But the book is more than a list of ways to attract foot traffic; Dos Marcos will show you how to build a brand people love, connect with people in a meaningful way, and truly differentiate your business from the competition. Here's a taste of what's inside the book, a snippet from Chapter 3 that touches on why mattress and furniture stores have to change and adapt to be here tomorrow. "We live in an attention economy. If you capture people's attention, you can get paid. Fail to make people look and listen and business will suffer. Offer the same products sold at a dirty window store down the road and you'll be commoditized. Avoid building value in your products and no one will care what you're selling. Promote only price and item and someone will beat your price." You need to differentiate.... {...}To generate foot traffic and sales you have to give people a compelling reason to put on pants and stop shopping at Amazon.com. You have to decide to do it differently. {...}A shift takes place when you decide to do it differently. Suddenly you go from playing basketball against giants to running sprints against sloths. No one can keep up. They don’t understand what you’re doing or why you’re doing it. They scoff and criticize. They sneer and talk trash. And then one day you’ll see those trash talkers trying to play your game. At first you’ll be upset. Don’t worry. It won’t take long before your competitor realizes they’re the sloth and you’re the track star. If someone else plays your game, you’ll be better at it. A key piece of your game will be dedicated to something fun, meaningful, and magical—connecting with people. That’s where we’re heading next." We describe in detail over 70 tested methods for driving foot traffic. We incorporate the wisdom of heavy hitters in the industry such as Jim "Mattress Mack" McInvgale, Harry Roberts, Steve Rusing and many more. We lament over some of our own personal failures, and we did all this so that you could walk away with a one-stop-shop book designed to take your business from ordinary to extraordinary.

During his childhood, Wes Roberts lived in a hotel in Devil's Lake, North Dakota. Early on, Wes' dad taught him and and his legendary cousin, Mattress Firm co-founder Harry Roberts, the rules of the schoolyard—keep out of trouble, but know how to throw the first punch. After learning the ins-and-outs of the hotel business, Wes began bartending and, eventually, opened up a bar he operated for thirteen years and hosted up-and-coming names in the music industry. The bar business wasn't a permanent plan because he'd made a promise to his mom that he wouldn't raise a family in a bar. So, when Wes met his wife after a car accident that dislocated and broke several bones, he sold the business and began selling furniture for Jack Smith at American Bed in Houston. With a love of people and talent for communication, it wasn't surprising he met an Edward Jones agent who encouraged him to try his hand at financial planning. From there, he opened up the first Edward Jones branch in Alaska and eventually went on to win the top earner award for the entire company. Successful businessman doesn't paint the full picture of Wes Roberts. He's a tough hockey player who also loves singing and playing guitar. Wes has completed 10 marathons, got his first tattoo at 64, and, after being diagnosed with ALS, changed some of his passwords to "F U A.L.S" as a reminder on how to start each day. Listen to this heartwarming story as Wes reminds us that no matter the circumstances life gives you, your outlook is what matters most. YAMBAILY! We discussed with him exactly how he got started, what made him successful, and what he thinks is the best way to blog, build a personal brand and start a side project today.
After a short hiatus, Toolsday returns with CSS Wizardry himself, Harry Roberts, to talk about travel.

Here’s some of the key takeaway points: Harry Roberts Check out his original interview here Working with multi-national companies may sound ideal but has its own complications, especially when it comes to being paid How can you modify your workflow to make it more efficient? Is there anything you can have as templates/modules? Ready prepared? Do you need to rethink your fees? Don't just think about the actual hours you're with a client, what about prep and travel? Could you add screencasts to your blogging mix? It can be quicker and adds your personality Jessica Morgan Listen to her original interview here Bigger organisations have stricter payment terms, you just have to accept them and be prepared Bigger organisations often take longer to give feedback; plan your time so you don't waste it Plan. Short-term, mid and long-term. Even plan what you want to get out of a networking event Enter awards! It's good to look back at what you've done and feels great to be recognised Who the hell is Steve Folland? You know how everyone bangs on about how powerful video and audio content can be? For this episode we're debuting a new episode format called 'My Best Job!' where we talk to a web professional about a project they particularly enjoyable, amusing or interesting. This week we couldn't find a web professional to interview, so I'll talk about one I enjoyed instead! My ToolStar is 'WP Performance Profiler' by Interconnect IT. It's a very handy WordPress plugin to tell you exactly what's happening with memory usage and DB queries on your site. (https://wpperformanceprofiler.interconnectit.com) Mark's Read of the Week is 'Just Try and Do a Good Job' (https://css-tricks.com/just-try-and-do-a-good-job)in which Chris Coyier extols the virtues of not being too dogmatic when layout out CSS. There's also a bonus linked article from Harry Roberts called 'The Specificity Graph'. Topping-up the Jukebox this week we have: – 'Switchcraft' by Chilly Gonzales, picked by Mark. – 'Nepalese Bliss' by The Irresistible Force, chosen by me. Playlist: http://relativepaths.uk/playlist The music we use for various intro bits, stings and outro is 'Vitreous Detachment' by Origamibiro, used with kind permission. - Ben Subscribe and keep in touch iTunes - http://relativepaths.uk/it Stitcher - http://relativepaths.uk/st SoundCloud - http://relativepaths.uk/sc Twitter - http://twitter.com/relativepaths Facebook - http://facebook.com/relativepaths If you like the show, please leave a review or comment wherever you like to listen to us. Steve Folland discovers how CSS Wizardry's Harry Roberts went from secure staff job to in-demand consultant and international speaker. Harry now advises and runs workshops for the like of Google, BBC and NHS. But as a consultant, beware: if you're good at your job, you'll never get hired twice. You'll hear that there's a lot behind a Front-end Architect, as Harry shares great tips on self marketing, the importance of your own site's language to getting hired and the difference in being a freelance consultant and how to reach that point. Don't forget to subscribe via iTunes and the Podcast app for iPhone etc and also via Stitcher who have an Android app, or scroll down and download from here - If you like the podcast, please do leave a review if you get a chance. Here’s some of the key takeaway points: Before you leave your full time job: put time (years) into self-marketing Before you leave your full time job: give as much of a notice period as possible Give away a lot of your knowledge for free as 'content marketing' but don't forget to put a 'Hire Me' message across your blog and site Speakers don't often get paid, but there are many advantages Put something out there as soon as you can and then perfect it later, don't just wait Consultants should work to a 'value-based' pricing model More from Harry Harry Roberts on Twitter Harry Roberts' CSS Wizardry site Harry Roberts on GitHub Useful Links Harry's girlfriend's shop: Whosit & Whatsit A List Apart
We’re back. Back in business. Unfinished Business. Episode 101. For this, the first episode of 2015, I’m joined by two of the best well-known writers about how to implement CSS on a large scale Harry Roberts and Jonathan Snook.
This week on Unfinished Business, Harry Roberts and I have some pretty big, Boag-shaped, boots to fill after last week’s episode. Harry takes the opposite view to Paul about sharing personal struggles in a work context and worries about the impression that sharing give to prospective clients. Then we talk about how clients’ commissioning process for creative services is largely broken, the differences between an open conversation starter, an RFP and a brief and how we, as designers and developers, can help clients to commission what we do better.
This week on Unfinished Business, I’m joined by CSS hero Harry Roberts to talk about being typecast (literally,) going Keynote commando and Harry’s first week on the dole. We talk about how people can improve the way they think about sending and dealing with email and why we’re both obsessed with the backends of vans. This episode is sponsored by the new Device Lab from Vanamco and by Smashing Magazine’s workshops including my CSS3 For Responsive Web Design workshop and Harry Roberts’ Planning And Building A Big Front-End. They’re happening in Zurich, Switzerland on December 10th, 2013.
It’s hard to deny that websites need to be well designed; a pleasing UI, a seamless and pleasant UX, and a great personality really encourage users to interact and enjoy using your site, product or service. However, the design is only one part of a finished product; your product is built on code, and oftentimes it is necessary to sacrifice certain aspects of a design in order to keep the codebase itself leaner, faster, and more enjoyable to work with. In this talk Harry aims to share some of his die-hard pragmatic approaches that he employs in order to push back on designs to produce far better quality code. More info at: https://fronteers.nl/congres/2013/sessions/better-quality-code

For this Snippet, we discuss Normalising Designs For Better Quality CSS by Harry Roberts at CSSconf 2013. (http://www.pagebreakpodcast.com/snippets/normalising-designs)
Harry Roberts steps in as guest co-host while Andy's on holiday. Anna asks him about his sudden decision to leave his full-time job, the events that led up to it, and what he plans to do next. Harry shares his advice for people struggling to balance work and personal projects. They also have a sneaky chat about object oriented CSS at the end even though it's not really business related but something had to replace the usual 10 minutes of banter about soap and apes. Thanks to Blush who are sponsoring this week's show, — Blush does beautiful letterpress printing of cards, stationery and more for designers and artists. Support the show by supporting them.
Today I talked to Harry Roberts (Mr. CSS Wizardry himself) about how he got his start, the Smashing Magazine Expert's Panel, faavorite, breaking good CSS habits and best-practices, how to write scalable and usable CSS and preprocessors.
It’s a three-way face-off. ‘Nameless’ vs. Harry Roberts vs. Frank Bryce. All different when it comes to views, but also more alike than one may think. Unless it’s rock, paper, scissors. It’s endgame.
Blood enemies Harry Roberts and Frank Bryce come face-to-face after so many years. Their conversation is one of mutual hatred, needless to say…as ‘Nameless’ approaches.
Notorious crime boss, Frank Bryce, is informed of Harry Roberts’ return and the vigilante’s rampage…and plots their simultaneous destruction.
Unable to determine the pattern of the vigilante’s killing spree, the police bring in Harry Roberts, retired police detective, to use his unmatched skills to ID the vigilante and bring him in. But what exactly will sway the reluctant old man to help?
