Torna l'MCU con Captain America: Brave New World. Link Utili:Patreon Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Welcome to an update on some terrific work to enjoy this week. Today, we journey to Castle Douglas to visit Gallery 141, an artist's cooperative that has showcased a wonderfully eclectic season. This year, the gallery has featured works by Mary Carroll, Stephen Todd, Zoe Ginty, and the Printmakers Collective. Currently, the gallery is exhibiting paintings by Scottish artist Alan Martin. Alan Martin, born in Falkirk and based in Edinburgh since 2002, draws inspiration from the city's atmospheric old town. His abstract figurative works are known for their vivid, contrasting tones and geometric energy. Martin's paintings reflect his diverse interests in European history, folklore, archaeology, astronomy, and chamber music. His unique style offers a modern, bold take that contrasts with Edinburgh's classical architecture. This exhibition in Castle Douglas provides a chance to immerse yourself in Martin's expansive world, where his cast of characters inhabit a unique and enchanting realm. The show runs until the 28th of this month, offering a warm and inviting experience to explore his creative vision. Whether you're inspired by the night sky or the rich history of Edinburgh, this exhibition promises a captivating journey through the eyes of Alan Martin.

We feature new music from Alan Martin as he debuts on Tekno4life Records. The seasoned producer turns his heads towards rolling big-room sounds as he conjures a trance licked piece of dancefloor driven techno. Alan Martin returns to our premiere series, further vindicating his prowess in the studio within recent times, however his journey into electronic music began much earlier. His path towards electronic music began in 2006, when his father introduced him to the Technics SL1200 and records. The youngster soon began experimenting with his home setup and released some quality mixes and podcasts. Alan then got his own set of Gemini turntables before transitioning to digital a few years later. Alan began writing music around in 2009 using FL Studio. Early projects are laced with strong relics of the Irish rave scene, as Alan took influence from hardhouse, trance and rave. Alan later went down the house & techno rabbit-hole, drawing inspiration from the European scene. We premiere Alan's latest release ‘Dysfunctional' on Tekno4life Records. Alan's latest track is anything but dysfunctional, as he musters up a rolling groove that is made for big rooms and big sound systems. Locked 909 rhythms play off athematic trance inspired synth lines and ascending arpeggio lines. Alan pays homage to jackin' Chicago grooves while also turning his eye to sounds of Dutch warehouses. A momentous track that we can expect to be heard at peak-time as we move into club season. We premiere new grassroots techno from Alan Martin as he presents his debut EP ‘Showdown.' We showcase the title track as Alan exudes big-room stomping energy through striking dub chords and pounding percussive workouts. Alan Martin‘s electronic music journey began in 2006 when his father introduced him to Technics SL1200 and records. The youngster soon began experimenting with a ghetto blaster and this turntable and ended up making some decent-sounding mixes, according to YouTube user ‘ellaskins' aka DJ. Tutor. Alan later purchased his own set of Gemini turntables before moving into the world of digital some years later. Outside of DJing Alan began making music in 2009 through FL Studio. Earlier tracks came in the style of hard house and abrasive rhythms associated with the old-school Irish scene. In more recent years Alan house & techno has moved into the world of house & techno taking inspiration from the European scene. We premiere the slick lead track ‘Showdown' from Alan's debut EP as he hones in on the classic 909 & 808 sound, curating a hard-edged and relentless drum workout. Alan continues to push a classic style through the use of Detroit-style dub chords created on a UAD Moog synth. This is a big-room techno bomb cooked to perfection. The Irish Newspaper Archives is not just a resource for family historians. It has a much wider audience of academic, social and local historians. It's an independent Irish business, unconnected to any of the international corporations that control so much online genealogical data. In fact, the Irish Newspaper Archives is a family-run business, so it has its own element of family history. Andrew and Jonathan Martin are part of the team behind the business that was founded by their late father, Alan Martin, in the 1960s. Today, their mother Annette is another of the four family members currently involved in it. Andrew and Jonathan tell Paul how their father began what is now the Irish Newspaper Archives by providing microfilming facilities for newspaper publishers and libraries throughout the country, under the name National Micro Publishing. In the twenty-first century, digitisation allowed for bringing the newspapers online. The Martin family's passion for their business comes through in the chat. It's a dynamic enterprise, with current newspapers updated weekly and back issues constantly being added. Welcome to the podcast; I'm Jamie Smart, and I've got a question for you. What would you like to ask a 1:1 coaching client about their experience of being enrolled on a high-value, 5-figure coaching package?   In this episode, you're going to hear a conversation I had today with one of my 1:1 coaching clients, Nic Jarvis. Nic has kindly agreed to answer questions from members of our community about his experience of being enrolled on a high-value coaching package.   This is super-valuable because most coaches never get to hear a client's perspective on the enrollment experience, so now's your chance to find out. Here are some of the questions Nic answered:   Susanne Hake asked, “Was it uncomfortable for you at any point before, during or after? And if: what was the content about the uncomfortableness?”   Angela Durrant asked “1)Did you already have the money to invest or did you find it? And 2) did you pay up front or ask for a payment plan? Was it comfortable or uncomfortable to meet the terms?”   Alan Martin asked, “If the price of the coaching package was a stretch for you, what was your self-talk (if you can remember), leading up to you saying 'yes'? I guess what I am asking is what was going through your mind before you eventually committed to the coaching and what did Jamie say to you that convinced you that you should go for it?”   Elaine Wright asked, “At what point, and for what reason was your enrollment a ‘Hell YES, I'm in!”? She also asked, “What was your return on investment” so I asked Nic that.   Then Elaine asked the question everyone really wanted to ask…    “What was the difference between your expectations before you went in and what you actually got?”   I put all of these to Nic, and we had an enlightening and super-practical conversation.   By the way, this episode is brought to you by the Thriving Coaches Blueprint programme, my 90-day coaching intensive to help you get clients, grow your business and make the difference you're here to make. Doors close this Friday, August 6th, and you can learn more and register now at JamieSmart.com/thriving    So here's my conversation with Nic Jarvis...

So, let’s start with last week’s startup funding scene. We had a total of 391 funding rounds, $9.2 billion total funding, 146 acquisitions recorded, and a transaction of a total acquisition amount of $12.5 billion. Let’s dive right into the highlights now. Used car marketplace Motorway picks up £11M Series A Motorway, the U.K. used car marketplace, has raised £11 million in Series A funding. Leading the round is Marchmont Ventures, the fund managed by Hugo Burge and Alan Martin (the former CEO and CFO of Momondo Group, respectively), along with participation from existing backer LocalGlobe. Founded by the team behind Top10 — the mobile and broadband comparison site that exited to uSwitch in 2011 — Motorway has set out to make it easier to sell your used car online. The website lets car sellers instantly see live offers from multiple car buying services and specialist dealerships. Indonesia’s EV Hive raises $13.5M and expands into co-living and new retail WeWork’s battle to win co-working in Indonesia, the world’s fourth most populous country, is intensifying after one of the U.S. firm’s key rivals issued a slew of announcements to double down on its business. EV Hive, an Indonesia-based co-working startup, said today that it has raised $13.5 million and expanded into new verticals. The company is putting off plans to foray into new countries in order to prioritize growth opportunities at home. The four-year-old company, which started as a project for seed-stage VC firm East Ventures, has rebranded to CoHive as part of the strategy to diversify its business. That’ll see it add new services for living spaces (CoLiving) and retailers (CoRetail), in addition to its core co-working and events businesses. Duffel raises $21.5M in Series A from Benchmark for its travel platform Ten months ago London startup Duffel hinted that it would be “a new way to book travel online, aiming at the booking experience ‘end to end,’ ” and announced a healthy $4.7 million funding round, but not much else. Last week, Duffel announced a funding of $21.5 million in Series A from U.S. VC giant Benchmark, which also backed Snap, Twitter and Uber. Benchmark is joined by Blossom Capital and Index Ventures, which participated in Duffel’s $4.7 million seed round last year. Duffel appears to be building a new software stack for travel, in the same way that challenger banks started from scratch to make themselves more agile than the laggard banks. SafeAI raises $5M to develop and deploy autonomy for mining and construction vehicles Startup SafeAI, powered by a founding talent team with experience across Apple, Ford and Caterpillar, is emerging from stealth today with a $5 million funding announcement. The company’s focus is on autonomous vehicle technology, designed and built specifically for heavy equipment used in the mining and construction industries. What SafeAI hopes to add is an underlying architecture that acts as a fully autonomous (Level 4 by SAE standards, so no human driver) platform for a variety of equipment. Said platform is designed with openness, modularity and upgradeability in mind to help ensure that its clients can take advantage of new advances in autonomy and AI as they become available. Two Sigma leads $12m series A for expert knowledge network NewtonX NewtonX is a “knowledge access platform” which attempts to intelligently answer questions posed to it by business clients. Clients answer a carefully calibrated series of questions to properly vet and scope a query, and then NewtonX farms it out to it network of experts for insight. That rapid-response network has now gotten the attention of Two Sigma Ventures, the venture wing of the high-flying algorithmic-trading hedge fund, which led a $12 million Series A round into New York City-based NewtonX. That’s a follow up to a $3 million seed round co-led by Third Prime Capital and Xfund last year. Moving on to acquisitions - WordPress management site WP Engine acquires Flywheel as it moves to a $1B valuation and IPO WordPress now accounts for 34 percent of all websites globally, and today one of the key companies that helps handle the creation and management of some of those WP-hosted sites is getting a little bigger through some consolidation in the wider ecosystem. WP Engine, which works with businesses to build and manage their WordPress-hosted sites, has aquired Flywheel, a smaller competitor. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed, WP Engine, as Brunner describes it, focuses largely on mid-market and larger businesses, while Flywheel — founded and currently based out of Omaha — has focused on smaller businesses. That makes the two natural complements to each other, but Brunner notes that there will be more gained from the union. What else caught our eyes- Facebook just reinvented digital currency with its Libra cryptocurrency that will launch early next year. No they’re not calling it Zuckerbucks. Libra is like cash that lives inside your phone. Starting in 2020, you’ll be able to purchase Libra through Libra wallet apps on your phone or from some local grocery and convenience stores. You cash in your local currency like dollars and get nearly the same number of Libra coins, which are represented by wavy three-line emoji instead of the $ symbol. But first you’ll have to verify your identity with a photo. You’ll then be able to spend your Libra while online shopping, or potentially pay for things like Ubers or your subscription for Spotify, since those companies have partnered with Facebook to make Libra popular. Since it’s almost free to digitally move Libra from one account to the other, you won’t have to pay high credit card processing fees that can add almost 4% to your total. And some Libra wallet apps and shops will give bonus discounts or free coins for signing up and paying with Libra.

Our Female Filmmakers month continues this week with a look at a film that wasn't a pretty big financial failure upon original release, but has gone on to build a bonafide cult following, 1995's TANK GIRL, directed by Rachel Talalay and starring Lori Petty, Malcolm McDowell and Ice-T (as a kangaroo-human hybrid!). Based on a cult comic by Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett, TANK GIRL is definitely a product of the mid-90s Riot Grrrl movement, although it was severely neutered by the Hollywood studio that was responsible for producing it. Meanwhile Comic Con is quickly becoming one of my favourite comic conventions to attend, purely because it's so well curated by organiser Simon Birks (Blue Fox Comics) - simply put, he pulls together really nice people with a wonderfully positive attitude, making for an event with the most delicious, laid back vibe! For this second Meanwhile event, held at the Worthing Assembly Hall on Saturday 11th August, we took on a range of topics, from TANK GIRL AT THIRTY to the practical hints and tips of running a successful Kickstarter campaign. However, the backbone of the Meanwhile events is the incredible strong Small Press & Indie community that exists in the UK, and especially in the South of England. Here, Leonard, Simon Birks and a few other special guests come together to hold what was, at first, a very loose conversation about fractures in the comics community and the ties that bind in the small press scene and subsequently wandered through a number of subjects including, getting comics into the hands of cinema and library attendees, about the democratisation of quality control in independent publishing, and even unionising small press distribution! We went all over t'shop!! Thanks to Simon Birks, Dave West (Accent UK) and Russell Mark Olson for taking their time out to participate in the panel and for putting on the Meanwhile event. May I present a recording of one of the panels that I hosted at the inaugural Meanwhile... Comic Con, held in Chichester on Saturday 30th September: I was lucky enough to get the chance to spend time with two guys that have created and contributed to a truly iconic British comics creation, one that simply refuses to get out of peoples faces - TANK GIRL! Co-creator Alan Martin and comics artist (and Chichester local lad) Warwick Johnson Cadwell talked to me about the formative years of the character set in the backdrop of the start of DEADLINE, how she grew into a pop culture phenomenon, and how Tank Girl is still making an indelible Doc Martin footprint on the forehead on comics today. A cracking chat - I hope you will enjoy this as much as I think the lads did. My many thanks to the organisers of Meanwhile... Comic Con for allowing me the opportunity to host this panel and to share this with my readers.

Hello again, friends! On this episode of Got Me A Movie, we’re talking about a couple of our favorite tuff chicks: Tank Girl and Billie Jean Davy. 1995’s Tank Girl was meant to be a revelation. Based on Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett’s work for Deadline magazine (and beyond), this film was supposed to encapsulate all the snark, rebellion, and cheekiness that made the title character who she was, and that readers of the comic rallied around. It was supposed to be a larger-than-life, punk rock force to be reckoned with, and in some ways was successful in that. But as with any major studio endeavor, the filmmakers (director Rachel Talalay, along with Martin & Hewlett) were struck by limitations that no doubt watered down the spirit of the character and her world. So, we have a film that means well, that does the best with what it’s got, but lacks a sense of soul that won’t allow it to fully get there. It’s unfortunate that so much got lost in the translation from comic to film, because this really could have been something special. Still, despite the weaknesses, the cult status of Tank Girl remains, and there are some pretty cool things about it. Hear what we think those things are in the episode! 1985’s The Legend of Billie Jean, on the other hand, is a cult classic with so much staying power it hurts. This resonate tale about siblings on the lam tackles the issues of not only youth empowerment, but of how working class individuals are regarded and treated. Billie Jean is a symbolic, almost mythical character, who transcends class and gender in order to fight for what is right, and what is fair. The film can be a bit hokey at times (i.e., those Texan accents!), but for what it’s worth, this film absolutely sticks its landings. Tune in, and see why we think The Legend of Billie Jean should be required viewing for everyone! So, please, click below and hear what we really think of these films (and these amazing characters). And, as always, thanks for listening! The post GOT ME A MOVIE Episode 05: TUFF CHIX appeared first on Cinepunx.
