Scaling your business isn't about piling more onto your already full plate. It's about stepping into your role as a leader; bringing in the right people and empowering them to take ownership. But making that shift? Easier said than done. Why Is It So Hard to Move from Doing to Leading?Ever feel like you're the glue holding everything together? You're making every decision, overseeing every detail, and keeping the wheels turning. But instead of feeling in control, you're exhausted, overwhelmed, and stuck. It's like if you take your hands off the wheel for even a second, everything might fall apart. Here's the good news: this is a normal phase. Every service business owner reaches this point, the moment when working harder is no longer the answer. But (and this is a big but!) you can't stay here. If you don't make the transition from doer to leader, your business growth will stall. The challenge? Being a great business owner doesn't automatically make you a great leader. The skills that got you here aren't the same ones that will take you forward. That's why I want to share 2 game-changing books that helped me navigate this transition:

SHOW NOTES: On this show…we are gearing up for festive family functions by setting clear boundaries that encourage us to engage while focusing on our own self-care. Now that might sound like another thing to tackle like cleaning the bathroom, changing the sheets, removing the dog hair, and setting the table but just wait. With the right balance, you can manage both with ease. Picture it, some soulful jazz in the background, festive candles a glow scenting the room and setting the mood. With the food prep completed and an hour left on the turkey, you've got your feet up enjoying a little pumpkin spice latte allowing yourself a well-deserved break before company arrives and…….the dorbell rings. Goodbye serenity hello familia dysfunction and soon-to-be heartburn. Happy Holidays! Sound familiar? I'm not sure how it goes down in your world but for many of us, this rings true. Maybe you only have to get yourself ready and a onepot wonder to contribute. You park at the back for an easy exit and have no problem with excusing yourself and packing up your leftovers before you have a chance to hit the hot seat. Maybe you have already established some clear boundaries and scenes like these are a thing of the past. Congratulations. For everyone else, hang in there. Finding harmony during family functions can feel like an ill-fated attempt but don't we want a picture-perfect holiday? So let's dig in and gain some new insights on setting boundaries for a blissful family function. At medcircle.com I found more information on Understanding the Definition of Boundaries to kick us off Kristen Lee Ed.D., LICSW answers the question Why Is It So Hard to Set Boundaries? Traveling with kids can feel more like a business trip than a vacation sometimes. You get excited for a break and a change of scenery, but you're not necessarily off duty when it comes to parenting. In this episode, I'm sharing why vacation feels like so much work sometimes and my top 5 tips for vacationing with kids. Why Is It So Hard?Your ExpectationsOften, when we plan a trip, we think of it in its most idyllic way. We anticipate that it will be lovely and fun and relaxing. We can't wait for the adventure, the squeals of fun and laughter. Then, reality hits. You're taking your actual children with you on this trip (not some imaginary unicorn children you made up in your mind).Maybe things fall apart pretty quickly, you start to feel discouraged and think things like, “This always happens,” or “They're going to ruin our vacation.”Your expectation of how things “should” go is different from the everyday, but the behavior struggles and emotional dysregulation are the same. Emotional Dysregulation When you go on a trip, you're also taking your kid out of their normal rhythm and routine, so even if it's really fun the situation will likely cause some stress for them.Excitement can cause dysregulation. Basically, when our emotions go faster than our nervous system can handle, we get thrown off balance.Add long lines, bad weather, sitting for long periods of time, sleeping in new places. possible time zone changes and all sorts of new food to the mix, and you're facing quite a few challenges. Big Feeling CyclesKids cry a lot and have a lot of big feeling cycles, whether you're at home or on a trip. Their emotions are not on vacation. The location or the circumstance isn't what triggers their behavior. It's actually their thoughts and feelings that trigger their behavior. Even in what seems like a fun situation, kids can have thoughts that trigger feelings like disappointment, frustration or jealousy, so they end up complaining, pouting or shoving their sibling. When behaviors come up, many parents are quick to make threats, criticize or overparent in an attempt to get the vacation back on track. But while these approaches might work in the short term, they're not long-term solutions and may suck even more of the fun out of your vacation. Tips for Vacationing With KidsThe tips I'm sharing today are meant to get you out of the command-threat model and help you know how to handle behaviors and situations that come up. MindsetDecide what you want to think and feel on your vacation. We often spend a lot of time planning specific activities but don't take the time to think about what feelings we are chasing. Why are you going on this trip? How do you want to feel while you are there? What memories do you want to capture?Your memories will reflect the way you felt while you were on vacation. You might look back at the pictures and look so happy, but you won't remember feeling happy because you actually weren't.Here are a few of my favorite thoughts you can borrow to shift your feelings:Wow. They're really immature (and they're supposed to be). They're really struggling right now. This is a temporary moment. My kid's just having some big feelings.I really love my children. Pause When You're MadWhen you find yourself activated, overwhelmed, angry or frustrated or in any other negative emotion that you don't wanna be feeling on your vacation, I invite you to pause and reset. You want to reset both the stress response in your body and the thoughts in your mind. Move your body to get out some...

Why Is It So Hard to Not Be an A-Hole Sometimes?Brian Ronalds is back, author behind the How Not to Be an A-Hole series! On today's episode, Brian joins Seth and Pete to take a closer look at one of the key factors that play into the divorce scenario: one of the partners is an a-hole. But sometimes, that a-hole is you. Why is it so hard to get past this? Brian is back to share what it takes to look at yourself to work at being a better person who isn't an a-hole. It's a challenge, particularly as sometimes it involves figuring out what part of your issues in the marriage, the divorce, or post-divorce are because you and your partner/ex were a bad fit, and what parts are because you are being an a-hole.Sometimes it means therapy. Sometimes, it's working really hard to avoid those kneejerk reactions, particularly when it comes to texts. (Don't text back right away!) But it's worth it in the long run to work on these things. As Brian says, “It's lazy to get dirty, and it's hard to go above what they'd expect of you.” We have a great conversation today with him and are thrilled to have him returning to chat with us.
178 – How do you see yourself? There's a lot of debate these days about how some people choose to self-identify when their choices don't follow society's stereotypes.Who or what is that defines us? Can we decide who and what we are? Are we defined by our past, our position in life, our culture, our money and education, our emotions. Can our mistakes define us? Can other people define who we are? Can we define ourselves; can we decide our own identity? You are so much more than whatever label you put on yourself, how you see yourself, and how others see you.The real question is: How does God define you? How does God see and identify you?Whether you think you're defined by your circumstances, your past, etc., or whether you think you can define yourself however you choose, your true spiritual identity is already established. The Presence Projects presents episode 72 of the "Are You Being Present?" podcast series. Join Paul for a podcast that addresses a question everyone will ask and seek answers for in hopes of gaining relief and guidance through times of challenge and adversity while working on oneself. The title and topic of this episode is “Why Is It So Hard to Be Present?". In this podcast Paul takes the opportunity to share one of the most common questions he's asked while teaching Presence and Mindfulness to the patients he works with. Being Present can be very difficult at times, especially in the beginning, depending on the variety of subjective experiences encountered. He explains, and explores, the ego, which is a matrix mind construct, that he knows to be the biggest obstacle to Presence. Paul goes into depth about what the ego is and how it manipulates, distracts, complicates and creates self-inflicted suffering that makes being Present seem so hard. As always, it is advisable to listen to earlier podcasts that discuss other Presence topics and Presence Tools that can be implemented to help shift into the Present Moment. If you're like me, there may be some items hanging out in your closet that no longer fit. Why do we hang on to these clothes? What's really going on in our heads and our hearts that keeps us from saying "adios" to something that's no longer right for our bodies? Today, Heather tackles the tough topic of why we hang on to clothes that don't fit and how to process, in an emotionally healthy way, breaking up with that ideal or former clothing size. If you're hoping your body will someday fit the clothes again or waiting to get new clothes until you've "earned it" through getting to a different size or shape, friend, you're not alone. But, know that there's a much more comfortable way to live. Wearing clothes that fit you and you feel good in is not a privilege you have to earn. You'll be amazed at how good you feel when you have a closet with clothing options that you enjoy putting on rather than clothes that cause you shame. Love this topic? SHOW NOTES: On this show…we are putting a pin in the “what ifs”, acknowledging our responsibility, and letting go so we can move on with peace and freedom. It's time we give ourselves a pass. You will never have it all figured out, people, including yourself, will continue to shock and surprise you, and you don't possess the power to change the past. You can, however, learn and grow as you navigate this complex thing called life. In order to move on, you need to come to a place of acceptance knowing what you have today, information, motive, apologies, or forgiveness will have to be enough. Feeling stuck and hopeless is an illusion. Emotions are powerful but you are stronger. Pick up each foot, quiet your spinning minds with ENOUGH, and reach a hand in front of you. Take your index finger and extend it forward because that's where you are heading. There are so many angles we can explore when it comes to acceptance so let's leave no stone unturned. We've all heard or used the saying “It is what it is”. The perfect phrase for acceptance. It is that it means, "Oh well, nothing to do now but move on. It already happened and it can't be changed or that's just what it is and I can't make it different." However you interpret the meaning, it means time to move on. The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance. – Nathaniel Branden Acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequences of any misfortune. – William James Acceptance is typically linked to loss. Accepting the loss of something in preparation of letting go and moving forward. What have you lost that you are still in the process of accepting? How did you get there? How did you move on? Mateja Klaric asks and answers, Why Is It So Hard to Accept a Loss? In her article for medium.com At condolence.com I found more info on the Fifth Stage of Grief: Acceptance Megan Bruneau, M.A. brings to light 5 Things Everyone Should Know About Acceptance in her article for mindbodygreen.com Have you ever wondered, What Is Radical Acceptance? Arlin Cuncic explores this question in their article for verywellmind.com CHALLENGE: accept what you can not change. Instead of resisting and living in a constant state of suffering. Reach out, explore your options, and be open and willing to invite in new emotions. You deserve to feel free. I Know YOU Can Do It!

How much time are you spending on social media each week? I don't mean the time you spend doom scrolling or mindlessly looking at cat photos, but the time you spend creating social media for your business. Creating the visuals, researching the hashtags, writing the captions, engaging with other people with purpose, answering your DMs, sharing other people's work, responding to comments–it's a long list of tasks that take more time than we think. Last year I did a time audit and realized that I was spending about five hours per week on social media content creation. That's twenty hours per month, and 240 hours per year, which is six weeks of work. That's one and a half months of my working time! When I realized that, I had to ask, is it even worth it? And if it is worth it to me, then is it working? Could I be doing something else with that month and a half? That's what we're diving into today. Who will pay for the electric grid of the future? The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission explores options to incentivize and finance a vast transmission network to support clean energy.---Much of the fossil fuel generation fleet in the United States will be replaced by renewable energy resources as the country's electricity system is decarbonized. Yet it remains unclear how the vast network of high-voltage transmission lines needed to connect clean energy resources will be planned and paid for. Marc Montalvo, president and CEO of Daymark Energy Advisors and former director of risk management and market development at ISO New England, looks at why existing means of planning electric transmission are not up to the task of delivering a low-carbon grid. He also discusses recent action by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the nation's electric grid regulator, to explore ways to incentivize the construction of new transmission and support the expansion of renewable energy. Marc Montalvo is president and CEO of Daymark Energy Advisors. Mark has 25 years of market and regulatory experience in the electricity industry, including in senior roles at ISO New England. Viral Solutions: Your Chief Marketing Officer | Marketing and Business Strategy
There are a number of marketing models out there that can be used to develop a company's own marketing strategy. And yet, many businesses follow the same formula… They make sure they've got their social media running, their ads humming, and their content going, only to be disappointed by the results. Their efforts fail to deliver a positive ROI or sales on autopilot, and they feel both bewildered and disillusioned. And after they take a break to soothe their pain, the failed marketing cycle begins all over again. This scenario is all too common among businesses that throw hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars at marketing tactics without considering the bigger picture. That's because marketing isn't magical and doesn't require fairy dust to produce an ROI. The “wish and hope” method does not work. Just because you are using the latest and greatest marketing tactics does not mean you will be successful. Marketing tactics are not standalone entities. They MUST be part of a broader strategy to work correctly. The good news is that you can create a well-organized, highly effective plan that is primed for growth and not reliant on magic. In this article, we will talk about some marketing models you can adopt to build a marketing strategy ready to help you grow. Why Is It So Hard to Get Results from Marketing?

The Wellness Force M21 Guide Power Quotes From The Show Our Relationship With Food In 3 Basic Elements "We can narrow down our relationship with food to three basic elements: a trigger, a behavior, and a reward. The process of those three combined elements is set up to help us survive from a nutrients standpoint. What we have to stand from a modern standpoint, is why our brains are still set on survival mode when we have a fridge full of food." - Dr. Jud Brewer The Power Of Mindful Eating "Our Eat Right Now app program really teaches people step by step how to be more mindful with food. The first step is to just go ahead and eat but that really freaks out a lot of people because they've had these "food rules" forever and they feel like they're going to go to "food jail" if they don't follow them. So, we tell them to just trust themselves and follow the natural law rather than their own rules. At first, they're worried that they'll just keep eating without any self-control but when they pay attention to what they eat, discover what the reward from eating feels like, and think about why they're eating, it helps them work through their old habits and cravings." - Dr. Jud Brewer Dialing In For Greater Emotional and Physical Intelligence "Intelligence has a lot to do with dialing in and sensing these little feelings of contractions vs. expansions that emotions such as fear, joy, and curiosity create. If we can be intelligent around those pieces of subtle sensations that we experience, it's going to help us change bad habits, support the habits that are helpful, and foster greater kindness, connection, compassion, and mindfulness. This can all happen simply by bringing awareness to how painful the contracted emotions feel compared to how the non-painful, rewarding, pleasant ones feel. Knowing our psychophysical being, seeing these elements, and being able to link them up both with mental and physical behaviors will make us tremendously intelligent." - Dr. Jud Brewer Links From Today's Show Mindfulness Center at Brown University The Craving Mind by Dr. Jud Brewer Judson Brewer: A simple way to break a bad habit | TED Talk Dr. Jud and MindSciences' App-based Behavior Change Programs Wellness Force Media's new mission for 2020 Gabor Mate Vipassana Meditation – A Spartan Race For The Mind Eat Right Now app LIFEAID CBD Unwinding Your Anxiety app Why Is It So Hard to Pay Attention? Why Is It So Hard to Live Relevant Christian Lives Today? by RelevanceCommunity
Why Is It So Hard to Keep Audiences Engaged? As I wrote extensively in my book, the human attention span is about 15-20 minutes. My original research has been copied or quoted by just about every business author, so this should be familiar ground. 20 mins. That's the longest amount of time we can reasonably be expected to stay 80%+ focused on a single topic, idea, or activity without some kind of additional stimulation. When you give a presentation, it seems exciting and fascinating to you because you're the one who is talking. Your adrenaline is pumping and you're moving around the stage. Biologically, you are the most interested person in the room in what you have to say. For shorter speeches of 5-10 minutes, this is fine. The audience can pick up on your enthusiasm and it will carry you through. But when you have to give a speech or presentation that is longer than 20 or 25 minutes, you'll need to do something to engage and re-focus your audience. According to the research, there are two main things you'll need to do. First, you have to provide some pacing changes and media changes (e.g., show a video clip, play some audio, or introduce another speaker). You have to break things up. Second, you'll need to provide markers and "sign-posts" that make the organization of your speech extremely obvious.Techniques for Breaking it UpMotivational speakers are famous for asking audience members to stand up and high-five each other or give 10 other people a hug. These kinds of activities work great for giving the audience a mini-break and getting their blood moving and endorphins pumping. But if you're giving a serious speech to the board of directors of your company about quarterly revenue growth, the Tony Robbins approach can feel cheesy and out-of-place.On today's episode of the podcast, I talk to Jim Davies about a number of different strategies you can use to break up your speech and re-engage the audience. The most effective method is the use of video. But while video clips are a great way to break things up, they also present a host of problems if you use them incorrectly. Learn what the science suggests about the proper way to use videos during presentations of different lengths.Adding Sign-PostsThe other problem for presenters is that the structure of your speech is extremely obvious to you because you wrote it. But if your speech is more than 20-25 minutes long, your audience is going to have a hard time following the points of your talk. This is because humans have a limited ability to hold items in our working memory. When we pass the 25 minute mark, the mechanical functions of the brain start to fatigue and we forget what we heard at the start of the talk. The solution is to "sign-post" and make the structure of your talk way more obvious than it seems like it needs to be. The farther you go over 25 minutes, the more obvious the sign-posts should be. Learn exactly how to achieve this on today's episode.
WHY IS IT SO HARD to change how you eat? Maybe because you have an idea of how you HAVE to eat to see results. An idea planted by Instagram Influencers who make nutrition look so beautiful, chic, and organic! ((Giant eye roll.)) NOT TRUE!! In this episode, I’m sharing a more realistic strategy for changing how you eat if you’re a real woman with serious goals - who *also* has a busy-messy-crazy life. SPOILER ALERT: perfection is not required to get results. In fact, it’s probably why you aren’t seeing any. Let’s GET TO THE POINT.
