A very powerful and important episode this week.Jamie and Tom are joined by multi-genre London DJ, Savannah Simms!Savannah joined the for a chat in November when she was 8 months sober. During that conversation, she shared her experiences navigating sobriety in the music scene, where substances had long been her main temptation. By sharing her journey on social media, she held herself accountable and inspired others.Today, Savannah finds herself in a situation where alcohol and other substances have challenged her this last month. Determined to stay on track, she reconnects with Jamie and Tom for a raw and honest discussion about the ongoing challenges of maintaining a sober lifestyle.
Stepping in our podcast series this week, London DJ and Neighbourhood chief operator Tasha graces us with a versatile, shape-shifting helluva mix she holds the secret to. Keeper of a sound amplitude that sees her run the gamut from Latin music-inflected techno to proper industrial, Birmingham-style tempi, through hardcore-friendly outbursts and out-there acid mind trips, Tasha has us bedazzled with every bar, wrong-footing any expectation in the process. And just like a good DJ does, she weaves a totally unique web of sound for us to get caught in, cohesively braiding the kind of electronic journey you can not but want to return to. Hop in for a much addictive rollercoaster ride across Tasha's vortical headspace.

Darren Dixon, AKA D Double E, wants the world to know that he's not just a MC. In a short but deep chat with London DJ and presenter Tash LC on the sidelines of Outlook Festival's debut UK edition, the grime veteran discusses his recent productions for for the likes of Novelist and others. Despite producing for years, Dixon has largely hidden that side of his artistry from the public. But that's now changing following the release of his latest EP, Bluku! Bluku! 2. "It's a separate life but I'm now pushing it into the world," Dixon tells Tash LC ahead of his live performance at the festival. His production and vocals on the new EP touch on classic grime but there's also elements of '80s synth music and R&B. The record is a reflection of his personal tastes, he explains. Putting out new music is a chance for fans to see his personality, he continues, noting how that's not always possible during live grime shows. "When I'm doing grime sets, they're playing mad beats and I have no choice but to spit on the beat," he says. Listen to the full conversation for more details on Dixon's creative process as well as his collaborations with Swindle and Chip.

Bside Incoming: Heléna Star This episode invites us into the record bag of a rising ‘Star' in the UK's House and Techno scene. You can find her spreading the love for dance music across London, at festivals, internationally, and weekly on her Foundation FM residency. It's Helena Star. Helena is certainly humble about the quantity of vinyl in her possession, but we're sure we've been given an insight into the foundation of an almighty collection from the larger than life London DJ. The passion and knowledge for the music she owns is as infectious as every selection, as we take a journey through the music that brings her joy; from the relaxing home-listening tracks to the irresistible energy of those more often heard in the early hours; spanning the whole history House and Techno, from the raw genre defining beats, to the fresh tracks of emerging record labels. Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you're all very well. This is episode 52 and wraps up the recordings from Slam Dunk Festival 2021 at Temple Newsam in Leeds. This was a lovely way to end the day before heading out to enjoy The Alkaline Trio and NoFx, both of whom I last saw at Temple Newsam as part of the Leeds Festival nearly 20 years ago! My guest is DJ Zoe London. Now I had only heard of Zoe around 8 months prior to meeting her but in that time I have noticed her name on Leeds MadiGras, Leeds & Reading Festival, the Download festival Pilot and In the park festival featuring McFly, scouting for girls and others. Having then seen a few videos from these events I was genuinely fascinated as to how she got into the DJ world and where her influences come from as she has built a solid reputation for her mixes and entertaining show. I managed to get time with Zoe after she had finished with a few hours of press time and had made herself comfortable on the sofas. She was incredibly open and happy to chat about anything including how all other DJs she knew growing up are shit - not her exact words and I may be exaggerating a little there. Zoe educates me in the world of Twitch streaming and ways in which the DJ community have supported each other through the pandemic as well as the attitudes she has to deal with as a woman in the music industry.

Raw crunchy 909 beats, grooved-out 70s funk hits and attention grabbing Acid lines are just a few of the trademark musical ingredients Jade Cox has come to be known for. Though, while Jade's sound isn't unlike one you'd have become accustomed to hearing in a warehouse of late '80s Chicago, this hasn't stopped the young talented London DJ from representing her unique spin on that style. With her skills turning heads wherever she plays and an ever uncompromising realness to the music, she progressively built a following on London's pirate radio airwaves, then her production on labels such as Robsoul Recordings, Cross Section, and her own Shakedown Avenue imprint, have enabled her to push the style she truly loves and believes in! "This mix was recorded from home using a variety of older records from my collection, some newer beats, and features a Phil Weeks remix from my latest release on my new label Shakedown Avenue... x" Artist: @jade-cox

Recorded in August 2019, Corin invites two old pals from the London DJ circuit to talk absolute nonsense. I mean its the drunkest he's ever been in recorded history. So much spiciness had to be edited out but there's still a lot of it in there. Mostly Corin's so concerned about the system Thanos uses to pick half of the universe to destroy, but there's also talk about: love, requests, racism, being positive, being not positive, being a human being and other things i'll make up in this paragraph cus i've forgotten. say hey to @thelastskeptik and give us a review on your podcast thing! For our fifth edition of the Equilibrisme Podcast Series we proudly present you Berlin-based Thailander Pakkadej on the decks. With a keen ear and a back catalogue of his own musical production, Pakkadej journeyed from the steamy streets of Chiang Mai Thailand to pursue his love of electronic music. Pakkadej spent ten years spinning tunes in London and is now based in Berlin, Germany. Pakkadej first encountered electronic music as a youth in Thailand, sparking a life-long love affair. Chasing the sound across the seas, Pakkadej moved to London, UK, and after spending most of his days holed up with nothing but his turntables and record box for company, he got his first big break at Brick Lane’s Exit Bar and shortly after this he was made resident DJ at TSQ Bar Putney. From 2005 to 2014 Pakkadej entertained the masses at TSQ every weekend, but he continued to play on the London DJ circuit. In 2008 Pakkadej became a resident at 54 Bar Commercial Street playing the finest minimal in his weekly Sunday slot, while also making regular appearances across the club scene at venues such as Egg London, Rhythm Factory, Dropeast Bar, Apples & Pears, and Inigo Bar. In the summer of 2012 Pakkadej rocked the main stage at the massive Festa della Musica in Milan, Italy. In 2014 Pakkadej followed his passion to Berlin, home of techno, and became a regular face behind the decks at renowned musical hotspot Heinz Schüftan in Neukölln, appearing frequently on line ups for the Chapeau Klack Friday parties. Since then Pakkadej has joined line ups for the Berlin chapter of the underground Toronto party crew, Box Of Kittens, and for the record label Pfand at their legendary annual Amsterdam off-ADE boat parties. In Berlin Pakkadej can be found bringing his sound to discerning Berlin clubbers in the party capital of the world at establishments such as Club de Visionare, Griessmühle, Nirgendwo, Nachbeben, Tante Ema, Böhmisches Dorf, Minimal Bar, and artist residence Greenhouse. Whenever he's back in town, Pakkadej plays at Cafe CMBC Thailand and Warm Up Cafe in his hometown of Chiang Mai. Pakkadej's productions have been released on Astelagüel, Opensource Records and Cinetique Recordings. Recorded for Equilibrisme in Berlin in 2019, vinyl only ! Enjoy the ride! links: https://www.facebook.com/Pakkadej/ https://soundcloud.com/pakkadej

New Music Worldwide is a weekly mix series hosted by Thris Tian. This week’s selection comes from the London DJ, Producer and Wolf Music regular, Medlar. Starting his musical career through mixing drum and bass in his bedroom, British producer Medlar has gone on to be a prominent name in the scene, through his distinctly warm, funk-infused strain of house. With releases on labels such as Wolf Music Recordings, West Friends and Riverette and a recent release on Nachtbraker’s label Delusions Of Grandeur, the South London based producer has been imprinting his impressive sound on the house scene and steps up for this week’s New Music Worldwide mix.
South London Collective BORN N BREAD Break Down How They Mixed Friendship With Success New Currency linked up with the incredibly talented Born N Bread collective on a wintry evening in Peckham earlier this year. They touch on everything — from the challenges they faced explaining to their parents what they were trying to achieve, to how to navigate business and friendship — in a very candid, free-flowing conversation. www.newcurrency.ca
NATURAL RHYTHM 54 BEN Ben Fhurst is co-owner and manager of Lucky Life Music, being responsible for the musical direction of the label, finding new talent and managing the day to day running of the business. Ben hails from Perth, Western Australia and started DJ-ing in 1999. Ben lived in London for ten years presenting a weekly show on World Dance FM and racked up many an hour on the London DJ circuit. He became a resident for Lucky Life in 2008 and has played at almost every Lucky Life Party since, including sets at Pacha London, Ministry of Sound and the SW4 Official Afterparty. During 2013, Ben had an epiphany on a boat party in Ibiza. This resulted in him quitting his job and waving goodbye to the corporate world. He moved to Ibiza at the start of 2014 and started the Lucky Life Music label. Both Ben and the label had an unbelievable first summer season in Ibiza. The label was launched on the 5 Star Catamaran and held events at Space, Pikes Hotel and secret Villa locations. In April of 2015, Lucky Life Music took over the fabled Pacha Ibiza and smashed it. Ben travels each year to Amsterdam to play on a boat party on King's Day and the Lucky Life Music label runs an annual party at Gigalum in London. Lucky Life Music continues to grow with more than ten artists now signed. Ben's debut release “35” also featured on the first of the Lucky Nights series from Lucky Life Music. Ben has played at Savannah, Sands, Sunrise Bar, Club 107, Pacha, Space, Pikes, Eden, Zoo Project and Boutique Hostal Salinas since arriving in Ibiza and produces and presents the weekly Lucky Life Music show for Pioneer DJ Radio broadcast each week on Thursdays from 6pm C.E.T. (www.pioneerdjradio.com) Ben's DJ sets are a lot like his personality, full of energy, sometimes sinister and deep but always loud. Ben knows how to party and has a presence that sees him bouncing, sweating and generally going nuts behind the decks as he delivers sets with a real passion that is entirely his own. Not too hung up genres, Ben is continually looking for new sounds and new ways to deliver them to the crowd, with groove and flow being at the centre of everything.
Months of blood, sweat, tears and fears over this DJ mix but music is about freedom of expression so this is my personal tribute to all the talented blessed souls that have influenced me and that are sadly no longer with us. Keep enjoying and spreading the word on the originals but if bass and beats float your boat then maybe this mix is a way of enjoying these heroes of ours in a different way. R.I.P to all the amazing talented artists on here, missed but never ever forgotten. xx Love, light and bass, Jason Laidback For the complete track list visit: http://djzachmoore.com/podcast/142-jason-laidback/ From touring with The Prodigy, to remixing De La Soul, to releasing dance albums under Laidback and Slyde on Finger Lickin, the beat goes on with London DJ residencies and Jason running his own breaks and garage label Nightprowl. Out now is Namechecka! with a Leeroy Thornhill Remix and there's a forthcoming Dub Pistols Remix out soon alongside lots of remix giveaways on the major Soundcloud accounts. With strong Juno chart action, excellent reviews in DJ Magazine, good radio support and lots of remixes, collaborations and releases lined up, it's time for a special new 'Heroes In Heaven' DJ mix on The Armory Podcast. Infamous on the rock scene as an extremely exciting DJ and opening to 10,000 people at Groezrock Festival, for Front Magazine, Etnies and Monster to name a few, it's Karistocat. Using her eclectic sets that blend the likes of House, EDM, Trap, Hip Hop and Rock, she makes speakers bleed and gets crowds get riled up in an instant. What's so different about her? Her rip-roaring sounds and animal magnetism, blended with her style, cut the Kats from the Kittens. Karistocat’s style is A$AP Rocky meets a tattooed Brigitte Bardot with a spin of skate culture. Her wild and playful personality gives her an aura of danger making her something truly exciting to watch behind the decks. Her background in theatre and playing in metal bands gives her the rock X Factor and she has brought all her experience to her performances. Karistocat also has an undeniable knowledge of music and knows how to direct a crowd to insane heights of euphoria. Karistocat’s experience as a music supervisor means she always discovers music before her counterparts, and has given her a vast knowledge in all genres of music both old and new. Within her first year of DJing, Karistocat landed endorsements with skate brands such as DC Clothing and Pistonhead lager then further endorsements with Sinstar, Atticus and Skullcandy. Karistocat has spun sets for Front Magazine parties and exhibitions, as well as the following festivals: Slam Dunk, Download, Sonisphere and HevyFest with Red Bull. David Porter is the CEO and founder of 8tracks, the best place for people who care about music to make and discover playlists. Until 2006, he helped lead Live365, a pioneer in internet radio. David wrote the plan for 8tracks during school at Berkeley, informed by the London DJ scene of the late 90s.
ZDS https://www.facebook.com/zombiedisco Barely into his 30s, ZDS - aka London DJ and producer Nat Self - may not yet have the weathered features of a house music elder statesman but his musical CV already reads that way. Leading light in, and most successful export of, East London's post-millennial club scene, check. Resident of Panorama Bar when it was just a twinkle in most techno tourist's eyes, check. Collaborator with Chicago booty bass don DJ Funk and UK soul legend Omar on last year's rocking debut album 'Brains' (released by Made to Play), check. Festival slots everywhere from LA’s HARD Summer to Ukraine super festival Kazantip, check, check, check. It's no puzzle then why Classic Records, brainchild of definite house elder statesmen Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter, chose him to mix and re-edit their back catalogue for the bumping jackathon that was 'Classic Through the Eyes of: Zombie Disco Squad' (Nat's previous moniker) released to critical acclaim earlier this year. With huge recent hits for the likes of Suara and Hive Audio, ZDS now returns to dirtybird, the San Fran crew he's repped for since 2009. Slipping effortlessly from the wonked out ‘Hands’ to the low and dirty ‘Drop’, via the Teutonic techno train of ‘Bang Ze Box’, ZDS isn't just ticking all the right boxes… he's banging them too.
With releases on Shaboom, Magnetic, Robsoul, DJ Sneak Classics, and his own Cross Section Records amongst several others, London DJ / producer Chris Simmonds, aka Kidsmart, House Proud People, Smooth & Simmonds, Retro Emotion, Private Funk and Bakers Dozen is one of the long-standing veterans of underground house music and a true House Gangster. Earning his stripes in the 1980's working for Time Radio in London and running Wax Factory Records, meeting and engineering for the likes of Carl Cox, Colin Dale and Rocky (X-Press 2). It was a release on Richie Hawtin's Definitive Records that really kick started things however, and led to the birth of Cross Section Records. Chris says his mix for the Gangstercast represents him as an artist because, "I like to take risks, keeps things varied and keep the music tight. I think all those boxes are ticked on this mix." Talking about his approach for the mix he adds, "Usually before I do a mix I play for a about 15mins and see how I feel. If I feel right I simply press record and play and every track is the mood I'm in at that moment. By the time I've checked myself again I've playing for nearly 2hrs, job done and something different on the end to close. The moment was captured and delivered to you by one of the best djs you've never heard!" "House music is a very big part of my life. I wouldn't have seen so much of the world, experienced different cultures and had some of the best times of my life without House music. No matter where my production career takes me I will never stop making and supporting House. The House Gangster sound is underground, not watered down or commercialised in any way." http://www.imahousegangster.comhttp://www.crosssectionmusic.com http://www.thewhiteroomentertainment.com
