At just 17 years and eight months, Mamadou Sakho became Paris Saint Germain - and Ligue 1's - youngest ever captain. A move to Liverpool followed where he would earn the nickname ‘The Killer'. Now plying his trade in Tbilisi, Georgia while managing a successful property business, Sakho joins John Obi Mikel to look back on his nomadic career. The no-nonsense defender gives his verdict on Steven Gerrard's infamous slip. Did it cost Liverpool the title? Who was his toughest opponent and what is Zlatan Ibrahimovic like as a team-mate? Sakho also has a message for Kylian Mbappé and outlines why he's never, EVER allowed to utter the words ‘Manchester United.' Don't miss it. Learn more about your ad choices.

Having almost been forced into an early retirement at the age of just 22, Theo Squires chats with former Liverpool youngster Jordan 'MJ' Williams about his career to date. From the confusion around his name, to making his Liverpool debut at Anfield in a League Cup tie with Middlesbrough, and everything that has happened since. Williams shares the remarkable story of how his career was nearly brought to a premature end after receiving his first call-up to the Wales senior squad, what it was like working with both Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp, plus he shares his training ground experiences with both Mario Balotelli and Mamadou Sakho. Liverpool know a victory over Crystal Palace today will almost certainly be enough to seal qualification for the Champions League - and 10,000 fans will be inside Anfield to cheer them over the line. So is there anything that Palace and their departing manager Roy Hodgson can do to stop the Reds? To answer that question, Matt Addison speaks to comedian, writer and Eagles fan Kevin Day for the final Behind Enemy Lines podcast of the season. They discuss all the big talking points heading into the big game, including the decision of Hodgson to call time on his Palace career after the meeting at his former club. There are plenty more Liverpool links in the Palace side, too, with Christian Benteke, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Kelly among their ranks. And, as Day explains, the form of Benteke is something Nat Phillips and Co will have to be wary of this afternoon.Shop the new Liverpool Nike home it here: https://tinyurl.com/yjhapeqt

It’s pod time again and the Official Palace Pod has slid down the chimney and landed under your audio tree, with Episode 18 packed full of first team interviews. Christian Benteke is first up as he talks us through what he got up to at Crisis Skylight London and why it’s important for him to help those less fortunate not just this Christmas but throughout the year. Next up is Aaron Wan-Bissaka looking ahead to the festive fixtures and revealing that the fans make the team fearless. The soldier at the heart of our defence - Mamadou Sakho - sat down to reflect on recent games and chat about what the team can expect from Cardiff City. Statman took time out from his Christmas lunch to try and find some positive stats for Palace ahead of the trip to the Etihad. As always, the pod finale is performed by Roy Hodgson at his weekly press conference. You can listen to it now for free by clicking here or just by searching 'Official Palace Pod' on your favourite podcast provider.
Oh Mama! Mamadou Sakho has a mad moment at Bouremouth and Palace lose 2-1 to make it a frustrating couple of weeks. JD, Kevin and Enders discuss that, Max Meyer and all sorts on this week's podcast. They also answer your questions and look ahead to a tricky game against Wolves on Saturday.
Newcastle United are still without a win in this year’s Premier League campaign but managed to stop the rot with a point away to Crystal Palace.Rafa Benitez led his side to a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park and survived a late onslaught by Roy Hodgson’s men, Mamadou Sakho heading wide with an open goal at his mercy.United created little and in this week’s episode of Everything is Black and White Podcast, the discussion of where those goals will come from is a hot topic.ChronicleLive’s chief Newcastle United writer Lee Ryder and NUFC Writer Chris Waugh are joined by Mirror Football’s Simon Bird to dissect the weekend’s game and other issues at the club. This includes the appearance of Mike Ashley at United game for the first time in 16 months, why he has finally surfaced and whether it had a negative impact on the clash at Palace. The trio, alongside host Andrew Musgrove, discuss United’s transfer policy and whether it remains locked in the year 2011-12, when the club could readily pick up bargains. There’s also a look at whether Lee Charnley and Benitez are being punished for perceived failures in the transfer market in the summer United strengthened to go straight back up to the Premier League.Benitez’s future and the debate over Aleksandar Mitrovic are also discussed in this week’s Everything is Black and White Podcast brought to you in association with EToro. You can listen to the podcast by clicking the widget below, heading directly to acast, through iTunes, Spotify or Podbean. Please remember to like, subscribe and rate our podcast and also get in touch with us at @ChronicleNUFC both on Facebook and Twitter with your questions and feedback. Roy Hodgson’s men had to settle for a point in the pouring rain at Selhurst Park, despite having the better of a scrappy affair. Palace were left rueing Mamadou Sakho’s golden opportunity in the final ten minutes, as the home side threw everything at the visitors – who valiantly clung on to head back to the north-east with a point. Chris, Diyar and Simon are your panel for the review. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Hello and welcome to the Everything is Black and White Podcast in association with EToro.Lee Ryder and Chris Waugh bring you immediate reaction from Newcastle United's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. The pair, on their way to Kings Cross, analyse the game and look at how United played and what is next for the Magpies.Newcastle United battled to claim an important point against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park as owner Mike Ashley attended his first Magpies game in almost 18 months.Rafa Benitez’s side remain winless and in the Premier League’s bottom three, but a point from a difficult away trip to south London is not a bad return. The home side hit the post through James Tomkins, while Mamadou Sakho also missed an open goal during the second period, but United held on to earn a point in front of their owner. Mamadou Sakho opened up about his childhood, speaking openly and honestly about the difficulties he faced growing up in Paris and the lengths he had to go to as a youngster to get by before finding football and joining the Paris Saint-Germain Academy. Statman was on hand to give Chris Grierson the lowdown on Saturday's opponents Southampton and tried his best to remove the taste of fly from the Palace TV man's mouth... Don't ask. Chris also caught up with Wayne Hennessey following the goalkeeper's impressive start to 2018/19 to talk through his career today. He smashed Football League clean sheet records as a younger man before working his way up the pyramid and has now made close to a century of Premier League appearances for the Palace. Wayne was generous with his time and spoke in detail about his experiences in the game, including his adventures with Wales - and all with the sense of humour those at Copers Cope have come to expect from the big man. The Telegraph's Chief Football Writer Sam Wallace provided this week's insight from the world of football journalism. He discussed his appearances on Sky's Sunday Supplement and also explained how journalists go about selecting which game to attend each matchweek... Finally, to Copers Cope, where we had Roy Hodgson's pre-Saints press duties, and we spoke to the club's kit washer Spencer Ferguson to find out more about his role.
It’s been a long weekend without football for Liverpool supporters. But after seeing Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham continue their perfect starts, the Reds will also attempt to make it two wins from two at Crystal Palace in the first Monday Night Football of the season. And we’ve got a full preview of the Selhurst Park clash in our latest podcast. The pod kicks off with the lowdown on Jurgen Klopp’s side from our Liverpool FC correspondent James Pearce.James explains why Palace’s home should not be considered a ‘bogey ground’ for the Reds – even if it will always bring back bad memories – and why the match will be the first proper test of Alisson Becker and Naby Keita.James also discusses a possible midfield conundrum as well as a reunion with Mamadou Sakho, Christian Benteke, Martin Kelly and, of course, Roy Hodgson.James isn’t Hodgson’s biggest fan but the podcast’s second guest, Matt Woosnam, cannot speak highly enough of the former Liverpool boss.Matt is a Palace supporter and covers the club for the South London Press, as well as running the @PalaceYouth Twitter account, and he also talks Wilfried Zaha’s new deal, the young right-back hoping to follow in Trent Alexander Arnold’s footsteps, as well as one-time reported Liverpool target Max Meyer. And a packed podcast ends with audio highlights from Klopp’s and Hodgson’s pre-match press conferences.Enjoy.
