Today's guest hosts are Edwith Theogene and Emily Leach, Organizing Director and Communications Manager for Generation Progress. They've discussed voting rights a lot on this show over the past year—states across the country have introduced and passed restrictive voting laws that threaten to reduce participation in democracy and meanwhile advocates have pushed Congress to pass federal legislation protecting voting rights. Two of those bills, the For The People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, have now been passed by the House of Representatives and now face a decision in the Senate. The For The People Act has already met considerable opposition at the Senate level, but Majority Leader Schumer has indicated that passing that bill and the Voting Rights Advancement Act will be priorities once the Senate returns from recess in September. Despite the fact that moving this legislation forward has been slow work, advocates are working harder than ever to make sure that voting rights are protected, and in many ways the momentum behind this movement is only building. This Saturday (August 28th), many people will be marching in Washington, D.C. and other cities across the country to demand action to protect voting rights as part of the March On For Voting Rights. To talk with Edwith and Emily more about this march, the role that young people play in the voting rights movement, and how people can get involved, they're joined by two expert guests: Yasmine Guedalia, the March On for Voting Rights National Partnerships Coordinator with the Future Coalition, and Azalea Danes, the Director of Communications for the Future Project. Generation Progress' website is GenProgress.org and their Twitter handle is @GenProgress. Edwith Theogene's Twitter handle is @WhoIsEdwith and Emily Leach's handle is @emilyfleach. The website for Future Coalition is FutureCoalition.org and their Twitter handle is @FutureCoalition.

A week before the August 28th March On for Voting Rights rallies we dig deep into voter disenfranchisement. How, why, and who. Welcome to America. Where you have to pay taxes but can't vote. Where a single criminal conviction can turn you into a non-person with no rights or protections. We are also only a week away from the anniversary of the Abolish Slavery National Network. In a single year, we've made epic accomplishments never seen before in US history. Successfully changing 3 state constitutions to remove slavery exception clauses. Organizing over 30 other states to do the same within the next 4 years and introducing a joint federal amendment to counter the slavery exception clause of the 13th amendment. For the 1st time since reconstruction, slavers have to defend slavery for everyone to see and hear. Which they have done in Tennessee and Louisiana. Where state senators publicly presented their defense for keeping slavery legal. ASNN core leadership members will be speaking during the massive national marches in DC, California, and Texas. Dennis Febo in Washington, DC. Savannah Eldridge in Texas, and along with Jamilia Land, Abolition Today's hosts Max Parthas and Yusuf Hassan will speak in Sacramento, CA. "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." We count Ten Million Violations of the 15th Amendment against ten million living US citizens due to conditions of involuntary servitude. When is enough? This episode of Abolition Today begins that critical conversation.

Soldier On's mission is to enable veterans and their families to thrive and they do this by offering a holistic and integrated set of services to Defence personnel, veterans and their families. While this may seem to be an odd interview for a hiking podcast, you may be surprised to learn that one of the programs offered by Soldier On, March On, is all about doing hikes of varying lengths. In this week's episode we catch up with Soldier On CEO, Ivan Slavich to find out about this organisation and their March On program. www.australianhiker.com.au

David and Helen talk this week with Amy Maxmen, senior reporter at Nature. Amy has covered the Ebola epidemic in Western Africa and now COVID-19 in the US. Does she see comparisons between the two? What explains the failures of the US response? Can the WHO still make a difference? Plus we explore the implications of the growing politicisation of science. When did data become so divisive?Talking Points:There are significant parallels between what is happening now and epidemics such as ebola.Outbreaks turn slight cracks into gaping holes: they reveal political and systemic issues.Politics made the ebola outbreak in DRC worse.Conspiracy theories emerged that ebola was being used to suppress the political opposition.Ultimately Tedros and other experts were able to convince both politicians and local leaders to focus on the public health response instead of the politics. The parallels to the US now are clear, but could any figure get past the politics? For Amy, the lack of tests and the failure to contact trace and quarantine made it clear that the U.S. response would be much worse than she had feared. The U.S. hasn’t faced a pandemic in a long time and there was no sense of the kind of coordination that would be required. Different states are still doing different things. There’s a lot to be said for supply chain management right now.In an ideal world, we would get a vaccine sooner rather than later. But we don’t know.Funding for vaccines is great, but the basic public health response still needs to be funded. The WHO is now getting politicized, but they still have the most experience at coordinating things like this at a global level.A lot of people misunderstand what the WHO can and can’t do. It’s pretty small in terms of both budget and power. The WHO can’t enforce things; it works through diplomacy and relationships. But there is still a lot of power in that.If you need people to stay home; you need to be sure that you can support them.Supporting people alleviates public pressure to prematurely lift the lockdown and it ensures that people can actually survive.Mentioned in this Episode: Amy on the WHO’s fight against Ebola in the DRCHow the US dropped the ball on testing and contact tracing back in MarchOn tests going unused in US labsThe NYTimes on how the Trump administration ignored WHO warningsFurther Learning:Nature on why the WHO is so important right nowMore on how low and middle income countries are responding to the crisis More on the ebola outbreak in Sierra LeoneAnd as ever, recommended reading curated by our friends at the LRB can be found here: lrb.co.uk/talking See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

via Drum Corps International We know this is a difficult time for everyone as we all respond to the COVID-19 crisis. The events worldwide have impacted Drum Corps International as well, forcing the cancellation of the 2020 Summer Tour as of Wednesday, March 25. DCI’s voting membership unanimously reached the difficult decision with great regret after a thorough evaluation of numerous factors affecting participant health and safety, travel requirements, logistics, venue availability, and other associated issues. The membership also agreed that in order to preserve the opportunity for this year’s class of age-outs, performers will receive additional eligibility based on existing age requirements with a one-year extension. Above all else, the entire DCI community remains unified in its commitment to preserve the health, safety, and well-being of everyone involved in our activity. We share in the profound disappointment of the thousands of remarkable performers who will be unable to take the field this summer on the 2020 DCI Tour. We encourage every one of them to continue to commit fully to the pursuit of their personal best. We sincerely hope that corps members everywhere will continue to embrace the values taught through participation in the marching arts to remain motivated until we are able to perform together under the stadium lights once again. We are extremely grateful for everyone who continues to support our participating corps — from the incredible teachers, designers, judges, and administrators to the uniform, instrument and marching music products companies. We are fortunate to have a nationwide network of Tour Event Partners, band directors, schools and performance venues who keep the lights shining bright on our performers. Our most heartfelt appreciation also goes out to the countless staff, event staff, volunteers, health and wellness providers, and to DCI’s vast family of fans around the world, along with countless parents and alumni who have always been the unconditional allies of our performers. DCI and all participating organizations will shift focus from tour preparation to addressing the sizable operational and financial challenges resulting from these extraordinary circumstances. In the coming weeks and months, DCI and the corps will work to develop the plans necessary to return to a full schedule in 2021. We will provide information soon on ways to help ensure that drum corps emerge from this crisis stronger than ever. Together, we will #MarchOn. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sketchbookpodcast/message

Hello and welcome to Kitted Out Podcast, a podcast on football shirts. Each episode, I will take an in-depth look at a different shirt from throughout the years to discuss everything about it. The design, the materials, the story. For episode 10, we’re heading to a small town in Cheshire. Known for its salt mines, Northwich is home to 3 football teams, all in the lower regions of the football league. The youngest of the teams, 1874 Northwich, are a completely fan owned club who are trying something new with shirt designs! This episode sees a hat trick of appearances for Phil Delves as we discuss bus seat designs, members of the 1874 community and the designer of the shirt, Phil Galloway, to understand what the inspiration was behind the shirt. If you enjoyed this podcast then rate and leave a review. As this is a brand new platform, comments are really welcome! Sostenibilità, responsabilità sociale, attenzione all’ambiente, welfare.

March is a time of transition, the month between winter and spring. In Zen we March On, muster great determination, but also great resilience and ease. As we take a step upon a road, it becomes clear that we are exactly where we belong at the moment, just must be willing to be there fully.
What first brought people together on January 21st, 2017 has grown from a march into a worldwide movement. In this episode we talk to Samantha Monckton, head of March On across Canada and founder of the March On Vancouver chapter.
In this episode: The Women’s March faces new accusations of anti-Semitism among its leadership, New Jersey Democrats prepare to institutionally gerrymander the state so obviously that national Democrats are embarrassed by them, and major election fraud allegations hit the Chicago city alderman’s district where the legislator some call Illinois’ “State Dictator” lives. David has some issues with the gentrification of Hanukkah as secular Jews keep finding ways to make it as big of a deal as Christmas. He also has a big issue with March On's newest fundraising idea, the “Impeach Boutique” which takes the Chimps in Charge down a gravel road peppered with opportunists taking advantage of 9/11, the genius of John Waters, and the erroneous concept of being on “the right side of history.”Plus, six things to do this week to keep your soul from shriveling like a drying dog turd on a lawn from underuse.
