Today we have another great episode lined up for you. My guest and I originally met back in December 2021, as a part of a business coaching community that we are both in. When I met him, he was still working a job while beginning to build his business on the side. The transformation that this guest has had since then, is impressive to say the least.I look up to this guy and all that he stands for. I respect him as so many do, as a husband, father, and entrepreneur. He's an incredible golfer, and one of the hardest working people that I know. You are going to get so much value, inspiration, and motivation from this episode, and I can't wait. My guest today is Josh Spradlin. Josh is the Owner of Alliance Engineering & Consulting. He resides in Tennessee with his wife Myka who also runs the business with him, and children. Josh Spradlin, P.E. holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute, where he also maintained a scholarship playing Division I baseball for all 4 years.  Josh has over 22 years of experience in the Civil & Environmental Engineering and construction fields. Since 2001 he has compiled an extremely comprehensive background in construction, structural design, land development and water/wastewater engineering.  During the recession of 2008, he and his wife Myka started a residential general construction company from scratch in 2007 and grew it from nothing to a multi-million-dollar company in just 3 years.  He has 15 years of true, ‘start from scratch' business leadership, consulting services and construction experience at the helm of Alliance Engineering & Consulting, LLC where he is providing turn-key design services including surveying, civil site design, structural design, construction consultation and inspections for the premier construction companies and developers in the Middle TN area.

For many outside of the state, the swift expulsions of state Reps. Justin Jones and Justin J. Pearson from the Tennessee General Assembly were a shocking display of power by the state's Republican supermajority. But for longtime observers, this was a continuation of patterns that have persisted over recent decades, as African Americans in the state have seen their political influence diminished. In this episode, we explore the shifting electoral and political landscape that has challenged African American political power in Tennessee, and what efforts are underway to reverse this trend. But first, WPLN criminal justice reporter Paige Pfleger gives a preview of the gun dispossession law that will be considered in the General Assembly's special session. Guests: Sekou Franklin, professor of political science at Middle Tennessee State University and co-author of Losing Power: African Americans and Racial Polarization in Tennessee Politics Rep. There's a war on America. We all know it. When you dig deeper it's  a war on multiple fronts. One of the main fronts in the war is masculinity and culture. These values carried over into the way I approached the game of baseball. From an average young player I developed into a top high school prospect and eventually received a full ride to play at one of the top college programs in the nation, Georgia Tech. But, due to a series of painful setbacks in college, I signed lower in the MLB draft than projected. However, the Philadelphia Phillies gave me a shot, and my lifelong dream of playing Major League Baseball was now within striking distance. After years of working my way up through the minors, I was invited to MLB Spring Training. While leading the Phillies in hitting, in my last spring training game, I connected for another home run, and then lost all feeling in my legs while rounding the bases. In the most confusing moment of my life, I was carried off the field, and never got called up again. Needless to say, I was devastated. This week's episode is all things early learning. This episode is full of pertinent information for any parent/caregiver looking for information on how to best support their child. Early Interventionists Gina Wilson, Jenn Choate, and Kate Harris join Eric Wilson, Johnny Sunshine, and Trent Denson to share more in-depth information about Early Learning and how developmental therapy works. The team discusses different developmental milestones parents/caregivers should look out for at different ages and how to seek support from TN Early Intervention System (TEIS). At Waves, developmental therapy (DT) can start as early as birth depending on the child. Services start with a referral through TEIS. Referrals can be made by doctors or caregivers. The team talks about what to look for in your child's developmental progress, how to talk to your doctor, and how to approach the TEIS referral process. If a doctor decides to "wait and see", our team suggests to "check and see". Getting into the TEIS process and developmental therapy are free to the family. In addition to discussing milestones and the referral process, the team also shares the progression of developmental therapy and how it has changed over the last 35 years. From a classroom setting to receiving services in natural environments, developmental therapy has become a support tool for parents/caregivers as much as it is for the children being supported. This week on Waves on Wheels you get to meet Eric! Eric is a longtime participant of Waves and has incredible stories to share. This will be Part One of Two segments diving into Eric's world and his love for country music! I've been looking forward to sitting down with today's guest, as it's been on the calendar for nearly a month! This week I had the honor of talking with Linzy Boshers. I venture to say if you're in Middle TN you've heard at least a little bit about Linzy's story. Linzy contracted COVID-19, leading to covid pneumonia in early 2022 and spent 6 weeks in the hospital and rehab. The doctors gave her a 50% chance of survival after being put on the ECMO machine and she is now a walking miracle! Linzy is a Columbia native and also an educator (hello-I know first hand how underrated they are) who has overcome a lot over the course of the last three years. It all began with losing her father suddenly, the day before starting a new position, at a new school, in a new district. Shortly after, her mother fought a 7 week battle with cancer that ultimately carried her to Heaven rather quickly to join her father. As if that wasn't enough, this storm was rounded out with Linzy literally fighting for the life of herself and her precious miracle baby, Makenna who is due on June 8th. Wow, just wow. I think there is so much that can be gleaned from this episode and the way Linzy has and continues to carry herself through...and the Lord! We discussed things she does/doesn't remember while being in and out of sedation-including hallucinations and her interactions with the nurses that were taking care of her. We talked about how special her sister Kendall is, and how this entire experience has completely solidified her faith in the Lord.  I hope y'all enjoy this conversation that yes, includes some heavy topics-but is discussed in a way that we could also laugh and give thanks.
