Hello passionate cruisers, this is Paul. And this is Cheryl. This week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast we want to briefly share our reflections about our most recent cruise. This one was a short R&B music cruise to the Bahamas on the Norwegian Pearl. The cruise starred R&B superstar Maxwell and was called the “Urban Hang Suite Cruise.” Urban Hang Suite is the name of Maxwell's iconic first album. This was not part of a series of cruises—it was the first Maxwell Urban Hang Suite Cruise but I am confident it will not be the last. Maxwell is a global R&B superstar who takes his time releasing new music. The cruise was named after his first album which was released almost 30 years ago, indicative of the staying power of his brand, and his fans are every bit as fervent. Other headliners were Ledisi, Robert Glasper, Sabrina Claudio, Leela James, Musiq Soulchild, Gallant, and comedian A-Train. Support the show
Rock Boat Lineup Reveal and Artist InsightsLet's all get lost in the Jungle together…Join us in this TRB XXIV preview, recorded in sea-cret from an undisclosed location on-board the Norwegian Pearl. This episode is a real treat as we sit down with Sixthman Jen, Trae Vedder, and Sister Hazel's Ken Block to reveal the incredible lineup for the next Rock Boat and share some behind-the-scenes insights into the event's planning and artist dynamics.SummaryWe kick off the episode reminiscing highlights of TRB XXIII, where artists and fans alike built lasting memories over the span of a few magical days. An annual highlight for many is the Sixthman Sessions at Sea. Camaraderie and music created during these sessions have left an indelible mark on the artists and those privileged to witness the live performance. Our conversation then shifts to the Positivity Jam, led by the incomparable Brian Fechino. Termed the hidden gem of the Rock Boat,we spotlight this incredible late-night jam session, which sees a majority of the artists on the boat come together in a unique display of collective energy and spirit. We also touch on the Rock Boat Family - a community that is fostered between boats through the event's social platforms and the many “ripples” of TRB. The episode takes a moment to send love to Twigger from Gaelic Storm, emphasizing the support and unity within the TRB Family. As we dive into the lineup reveal, we share our excitement for the return of familiar favorites and the introduction of fresh faces. We discuss the careful curation process, aiming to balance the lineup with a mix of genres and vibes to cater to all tastes. We're thrilled to announce that Happy Landing, Hotel Fiction, and Nicotine Dolls are among the new additions, bringing their unique sounds to the boat. We also reveal the return of TRB vets like Red Wanting Blue, Welshly Arms, Tonic, and Will Hoge, who have become synonymous with the event's ethos. The episode builds up to the grand reveal of headlining acts, including Walk the Moon and Echosmith, and American Authors who promise to bring their infectious energy and hit songs to the high seas. (Hint: If you are looking for AA's Zac next Boat, there's a good chance you will find him in the hot tub!)We wrap up the episode with a heartfelt thank you to our listeners and the entire rock boat community for their passion and support. We tease the theme for the next rock boat, "Welcome to the Jungle," and encourage everyone to sign up for the pre-sale to secure their spot on this unforgettable musical voyage. So, there you have it, folks – a lineup that's sure to rock the boat and create memories that will last a lifetime. It was such a fun experience and since then I've seen it a number of times on various ships and each ship does it in a similar manner.I have noticed that crew members taking part seem to get special attentionWhat I'd like to know is;What is the tradition behind this nautical mayhem? Also if a ship is doing a world cruise does the crossing the line ceremony happen every time she passes the equator?Part of this question was answered in detail in Episode 68 – https://bit.ly/2UD2afjGill from SA asks Chris – what is the algorithm you talk about?Vilma from UK asks Baz – What makes TeeMill (your chosen supplier of podcast merchandise) so good.TeeMill: https://the-big-cruise-podcast.teemill.com/the-journey/ Example of “Buy a Tee, Plant a Tree” promotion:A holistic approach to reforestationThis weekend, we count your orders and fund the planting of trees in your brand's name. Our international tree planting partners work to address reforestation through a mixture of approaches. As well as directly seeding land with native seed species, they also employ methods like creating ‘seed bombs' which contain seeds mixed with clay, compost and soil, ready to plant when the rainy season arrives. After the trees are planted, protecting them is vital. Patrols and guard towers watch for fires and keep the forests from getting cut down illegally or destroyed by natural disasters.34 football pitches of forest plantedTogether, so far, across our tree planting weekends, we've planted enough trees to sequester over 1.7 million kilograms of CO2 from the atmosphere. Trees are the ultimate carbon storage system without requiring any expensive tech, helping to fight climate change. What's more, they also help to cool our air by releasing water through their leaves which then turns into water vapour. The larger the tree, the more carbon it can hold which is why our tree planting partners work hard to protect forests as well as plant them. You can find your own tree planting stats in Analytics and set a Green Friday target for customers to get behind. Posting live updates across the weekend is a great way to keep your community engaged as you move towards your reforestation goal.Guest Lecturer - Tamara Tamara is an 8th generation Australian.
