Give God One Night a Week—and Watch What Happens What if the biggest thing keeping you from making a difference for God isn't a lack of talent, knowledge, or spirituality? What if you're simply too busy? In this episode of the Rob Skinner Podcast, Rob offers one simple challenge: Leave one night open. Choose one night every week and dedicate it to investing spiritually in another person. Study the Bible with someone searching for God. Mentor a younger Christian. Encourage someone who is struggling. Follow up with a new Christian. Train a future leader. It doesn't sound dramatic—but Rob has seen what happens when this simple decision is repeated week after week. After moving to Boston, Rob began studying the Bible with a young man named Wale. Wale became a Christian, but their time together didn't stop after his baptism. They kept Tuesday nights open, sharing dinner, studying the Bible, talking about life, character, relationships, leadership, and his walk with God. Today, Wale is leading his own small group. Rob shares another example from years earlier. Every Tuesday night for approximately three years, Chris Schwarzenberger spent time with Rob and his family. Chris would later become an evangelist and continues serving in ministry today. Neither story started with a massive program. Tuesday night was simply available. Rob also looks at Jesus' example in John 1. When two seekers wanted to know more about him, Jesus didn't squeeze them into a 15-minute appointment. He invited them to come with him and gave them his time. Because relationships take time. Bible studies take time. Mentoring takes time. Leadership development takes time. You can't microwave discipleship. Drawing from Mark 4, Rob also warns about the danger of allowing perfectly good things—work, family responsibilities, entertainment, travel, projects, and commitments—to fill our lives until there is no room left for the things that matter most. For leaders, Rob offers an especially practical challenge. Instead of simply asking people to "be more committed," ask them: "What night is your kingdom night?" Imagine the compounding impact if an entire church made one evening each week available for helping someone else spiritually. One night becomes a changed life. A changed life becomes a leader. A leader begins investing in others. And eventually, one night can become a movement. Pull out your calendar. Choose your night. Protect it. Then pray one simple prayer: "God, give me somebody to invest in." Your greatest contribution may not ultimately be your career, house, accomplishments, or bank account. It may be the people you loved, strengthened, encouraged, and helped find God.

This week on CinemaChat, we're reviewing The Invite (2026), the new comedy that turns an innocent dinner invitation into an increasingly uncomfortable night between friends. We break down the film's awkward humor, escalating tension, and the way one evening manages to expose quite a bit about the people sitting around the table. We also talk about the cast and chemistry, which jokes land best, how well the movie balances comedy with relationship drama, and whether The Invite has enough going on beyond its central premise to make the night worth attending. Does The Invite live up to the hype of being "The Funniest Film of the Year"? Listen to find out... We also have a RETRO REVIEW this week. We take you back to a review we did around the pandemic days of another small-cast, small location story, One Night in Miami that we recorded back in 2021. -- We will be reviewing requests from patrons once a month. Mike talks to director Lee Kirk about his new Green Day comedy, Nimrods, which follows a group of teenagers who road-trip to Los Angeles for the chance to open for their heroes, Green Day, on New Year’s Eve. Lee shares how he first connected with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, the real-life band stories that inspired the movie, and what it was like directing a cast that includes Green Day playing themselves, Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace and Lee’s wife, Jenna Fischer. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about Super Troopers 3. The troopers try to bring down a new drug ring, while Farva's wildly over-the-top engagement to Thorny's sister spirals into chaos. Mike talks about why he thinks this proves comedy movies are dead, why Broken Lizard's comedy has aged poorly and what movie they should have made instead of this one. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Jumanji: Open World where the in-game avatars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan enter reality stuck in malfunctioning "demo mode," forcing real-world humans to step inside the game to fix it. Mike shares why people are outraged at Sony and the Rock’s Top 10 highest grossing movies. Get tickets to see NIMRODS in theaters August 14th! New Episodes Every Monday! One Night Only is an R-rated dystopian sci-fi sex comedy rom-com. But then, what movie isn’t an R-rated dystopian sci-fi sex comedy rom-com, really? It is directed by Will Gluck (who also directed Anyone but You and Easy A and other things). It has grossed $7.4 million over its first six days in theaters, and it’s in danger of becoming a box office bomb. And: “Two People Exchanging Saliva (Deux personnes échangeant de la salive)” is a black-and-white French-language absurdist comedy-drama short film written and directed by Alexandre Singh and Natalia Mistreata. It won this year’s Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. And finally: The Atlantic says there’s an “eroticism shortage.” And that feels right. Right? And so what’s that all about? We're in a bit of an in-between space as the summer blockbusters are winding down but fall festival season hasn't quite begun. But we've always got thoughts on whatever the latest movies are. Here's what we reviewed this week on our Breakfast All Day podcast: ONE NIGHT ONLY. It's "The Purge," but for sex. People can only do it once a year over a 12-hour period for ... reasons? We have lots of questions about this film's internal logic, as well as its general purpose. Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner star. In theaters. TONY. Dominic Sessa stars as a young Anthony Bourdain, making mistakes and pissing people off during the summer of 1975 in Provincetown, Mass. Directed by Matt Johnson, who also made "Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie" this year. This one, we loved. In limited release now before opening nationwide Aug. 21. MOVIE NEWS LIVE! Lots to discuss as always, including the record-breaking box office of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," the trailer for "Primetime" starring Robert Pattinson, Ariana Grande taking a break from performing, and more. For this week's main podcast review, Ema Sasic, Dan Bayer, Megan Lachinski, and Will Mavity join me to review and discuss the sex purge romantic comedy film "One Night Only," starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, King Princess, Ziwe, Ben Marshall, Ella Loudon, Molly Ringwald & Levar Burton. The film follows two attractive single people on the one night of the year when premarital sex is no longer outlawed, but does it invite more questions with its central premise than escapist fun? What did we think of it? Please tune in either on video or audio only as we discuss the film's story, its performances, humor, politics (or lack thereof), its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. #720 When you have to use the word, clever, over and over, it's not a rom-com.
One Night Only is set in an alternate universe where premarital sex has been outlawed, except for one 12-hour window a year. The film stars Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner as two beautiful New Yorkers looking to have sex when the mandate is temporarily lifted. But does the film deliver on its sexy premise, or is it more chaste than it seems? Looking for other conversations about rom-coms?
