Fredi Chohan is a sports enthusiast and advocate for embracing new challenges, proving it's never too late to take on something extraordinary. At 54, she became an Adventure Queen Grant winner, using the support to embark on her first-ever multi-day hike: the 268-mile Pennine Way. Growing up with a passion for sports like hockey and football, Fredi carried her love for physical activity into adulthood, playing hockey at the club level and coaching under-7s football. After losing her mother and finding herself at a crossroads in life, she was inspired by a friend to step into the world of long-distance walking.  The Adventure Queen Grant gave her the push she needed to train, plan, and undertake this life-changing journey. Starting from Kirk Yetholm and walking south, Fredi faced both triumphs and challenges, including overpacking, embracing her slow pace, and navigating the outdoors solo as an Asian woman. While a family emergency initially prevented her from completing the final two days, Fredi later returned to the trail with friends to finish her Pennine Way journey and celebrated her 55th birthday with a renewed sense of purpose and accomplishment. In this episode, Fredi reflects on her Pennine Way experience, how she captured it in a documentary with Frit Films, and her advice for women—of any age or background—who are dreaming of taking their first steps toward adventure. *** Catch the latest episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast, dropping every Tuesday at 7 am UK time! Whether you're a first-time cruiser or a seasoned traveler, these insights are sure to enhance your cruise experience. Take the stairs: One of the easiest ways to stay active on a cruise is to take the stairs instead of the elevator. 2. Fly into the cruise port a day early: Avoid travel stress and potential delays by arriving at your port city a day in advance. 3. Acknowledge the crew: A simple greeting or thank you to the crew can go a long way in enhancing your cruise experience. 4. Don't listen to the "cruise critics": Form your own opinions and enjoy your cruise without being influenced by negative reviews. 5. Pack a medical kit: Be prepared for minor health issues with a well-stocked medical kit. 6. Pack "light" but still take half of it!: Overpacking is common, but try to bring only what you'll really need. 7. Bring Ziploc® bags: These versatile bags can be useful for keeping items dry or for packing snacks. 8. Adjoining rooms for family travel: Consider booking adjoining rooms for a more comfortable and convenient family vacation. 9. Scout out "your" table in the buffet dining room: Find a favorite spot in the buffet dining room to make meal times more enjoyable. 10. Wear your tightest fitting clothes first: Save room in your suitcase and stay comfortable by wearing your snug clothing early in the trip. 11. Be on time to board the ship: Punctuality is key to avoid missing your cruise departure. 12. Ships may not abide by the time zones: Keep in mind that the ship's time may differ from local time zones, so plan accordingly. 13. Storing your suitcases: Utilize space under your bed or in closets to keep your cabin tidy. 14. Leave the contraband at home: Ensure you comply with the ship's policies by leaving prohibited items behind. 15. Don't overplan: Allow yourself some flexibility to enjoy spontaneous moments on your cruise. 16. Stay on board on a port day: Sometimes the best way to enjoy the ship's amenities is to stay on board while others explore the port. Enjoy the episode and happy cruising!

We were last in Europe in the Summer of 2023! You hear it all the time! Create a capsule wardrobe to be a successful traveler. It makes any potential packer think that they need to order and buy specialty clothes to only use when there's a suitcase at hand. Not so fast! We, here at Babcia and YiaYia, think that you might be selling yourself and your closet a little short. That's right, we think you probably have far more than you think to complete the perfect travel wardrobe. You already know all of the things in your closet that are high maintenance They wrinkle fast and never wash well. You probably pull them out once or twice a year. They probably won't pack very well anyway. Additionally, you probably know what kind of weather your head toward so out of season stuff is not part of your packing equation. It's your favorite one and you pair it with black and white all the time. Ours is blue. It goes with our complexions and never fails to photograph well. You probably have this color weaving in and out of every rack in your closet anyway. Black. White. Denim. These wardrobe basics are the foundation to your mix and match packing style. It's time to start pairing items together so that everything you take pulls a double shift. We start with the amount of days from take off to laundry. Do you have seven days until laundry? Then you need 5 bottoms in cool weather and 6 bottoms in hot weather. (Why six? Try sweating all day and then trying to look refreshed for dinner.) Seven days also needs 6-7 tops. There are many people who will give you different numbers but sweat doesn't lie. Then make sure each top has a different bottom that will make a new look. If you like dresses, simply subtract one for every dress you plan to pack. Just remember that every dress you take needs to pack well. It also needs to be useful. Dresses for a rafting trip won't do you much good but an easy to use maxi dress might be just perfect for evenings in Paris. No matter what the weather, we always pack a wrap, a cardigan, and a scarf. Sounds like overkill? Well, we find that we use every single item every single time. Wraps are perfect as a double for plane blanket or pillow. The most important thing about these pieces is that they go with every single outfit we bring. You are definitely going to need walking shoes. These will most likely be your bulkiest shoes and you will most likely wear them on the plane just like us. Additionally, you are going to want a pair of shoes that turns all of your outfits into a smarter look for evening. This may be a pair of flats or sandals. The point is, they elevate your look somehow to give you a little oomph. Take all of those picks and pack them up. Try not to open it for three or four days. Then, take it all out and decide if it's a keeper. You're ready to make a shopping list of the very few things that may be missing.

Do's:Research the local music scene: Before you play in a new country, research the local music scene and understand the type of music that is popular in that region. This will help you to create a playlist that resonates with the local crowd.Familiarize yourself with local laws and regulations: Each country has its own laws and regulations when it comes to music, noise levels, and public gatherings. Make sure you understand the local laws before you start playing.Connect with local DJs and promoters: Networking is key when it comes to international DJing. Reach out to local DJs and promoters to gain a better understanding of the local music scene and to build relationships that can help you secure future gigs.Be respectful of local cultures and traditions: Different countries have different cultures and traditions, so it's important to be respectful of these when you're DJing. Avoid playing music that could be considered offensive or disrespectful.Have a backup plan for equipment and technical difficulties: Make sure you have a backup plan in case your equipment fails or you experience technical difficulties during your set. This could mean bringing extra equipment or having a technician on standby.Dont's:Assume that your music will be universally popular: What works in one country might not work in another. Don't assume that the music you play in your home country will be universally popular.Ignore local tastes and preferences: To be successful as an international DJ, you need to be adaptable. Don't ignore local tastes and preferences in favor of your own personal preferences.Be disrespectful or dismissive of the local music scene: Even if the local music scene is different from what you're used to, it's important to be respectful and not dismissive. You never know when you might need the support of the local music community.Overpack or bring unnecessary equipment: Overpacking can be a hassle when traveling internationally, and you may end up bringing unnecessary equipment. Be mindful of what you need and leave the rest at home.Forget to take care of yourself: International DJing can be a grueling experience, with long flights, time zone changes, and demanding schedules. Overpacking is a common issue for riders, and the art of packing only what you really need is refined through thought, trial and practice. Experience alone won't teach, unless you consciously recognize what didn't work well, then imagine and attempt new methods or procedures to improve. This is about reducing all load including weight, bulk and complexity. But before you even start thinking about reducing your load, there's another key component that you need to consider first. What a great way to serve the needs of this very real and specific pain point. Welcome to the inaugural episode of Pops Pint. It's only fitting that the topic of conversation is "The Delivery Bag". The instance you start using is the moment that everything gets real. I am joined by Luc, father of a rich man's family. Which I am not. Overpacking is the only way to describe my first trip to the delivery room and well, it sounds like Luc bought a suitcase, a grocery bag, and some condiments. Welcome to Pops Pint! Enjoy Disclaimer None of this is advice. We are just offering our experiences to give new fathers a hint of what they can expect.

"When you are on the mountain you often find that your limits aren't so black and white. You can push them and that's the great thing about mountains. I don't think I had the confidence in myself to do a lot of things until I started spending time in the mountains. I just love the mountains." - Matthew Lilley In this episode, I had the pleasure of phone interviewing Matthew Lilley (@crestone_ on Instagram), a Colorado adventurer, runner, long distance biker, occasional mountaineer, and incredible photographer. Matthew has learned so many lessons over his years adventuring and we are fortunate to have a sliver of them noted throughout this podcast. Trip preparation is key and Matthew learned this the hard way in his early 20's. We talk about: A preparation mishap as a 20 year old with his father on a Colorado 14er that led to a night spent under a tree during a snowstorm and some hospital time thereafter. Overpacking vs. underpacking for mountaineering, hiking and cycling and how to find the balance of gear that is right for YOU. The importance of social media as it relates to connections, public lands, answering questions, and whether or not social media will ultimately be positive or negative for the outdoors. The outdoor values and lifestyle Matthew would instill on any future kids he may or may not have some day. A bicycle trip across Alaska at age 25.
