Today's episode features Ken Ruettgers, a former NFL offensive lineman who played for the Green Bay Packers.  He is now a medical freedom advocate making waves across the country, as a co-founder of Voices for Medical Freedom.  Dive into this insightful episode where Ken will discuss his football career and how his passion for medical freedom and informed healthcare choices have evolved since the onset of the pandemic.   Quotes: "We've had the courage and guts to stand up and speak out early on, about what was really going on." – Ken Ruettgers "In order to achieve your goals, whether it's a team goal of a Super Bowl, or personal goal, like a pro bowl, [it] takes all your energy and that can be a distraction." – Ken Ruettgers "Those that are willing to give up safety for freedom, in the end, end up with neither." – Ken Ruettgers Key Takeaways: In sports, as in life, humility and the ability to listen are essential. Learn to listen not only to the cheers of victory but also to the challenges and pains of others. It's in these moments of humility that you truly connect with others and grow as a person. In the realm of sports and medical decisions, the importance of freedom of choice becomes evident. You should never feel pressured into making decisions that don't align with your beliefs or values. Always do thorough research and consult experts before making significant choices. Your health is your most valuable asset. Don't hesitate to advocate for yourself or your loved ones when it comes to medical decisions. Be proactive in seeking second opinions and exploring alternative options if necessary, even when faced with medical uncertainty. Be aware of the legal landscape surrounding medical products and interventions. Understanding liability and accountability can help you make informed choices and navigate the complexities of the healthcare system. Encourage critical thinking and research when it comes to health-related decisions. It's crucial to stay informed and make choices that align with your values and beliefs, even if they differ from others in your family or social circle.     Highlights/Timeline: [07:03] – Ken shares how vaccine injuries impacted his life. [14:24] – In times of adversity and healing journey, what did Ken and his family do? [17:26] – How did private groups support a community of people experiencing vaccine injuries? [21:05] – How does listening to family's stories contribute to their emotional health? [29:10] – Ken explains how a group of entertainers, athletes, and businesspeople formed Voices for Medical Freedom to inform and encourage people to speak out against vaccine mandates. [34:41] – Why does Ken consider that players are now seen as brands? [39:55] – What is the importance of recognizing humanity in others' experiences for Ken? [42:50] – Ken explains why people are often against speaking against vaccines. [49:27] – Why does Ken think that medical freedom is important?   Conclusion: Finding a balance between safety and freedom in medical decisions is crucial. It is important for individuals to think critically, question established narratives, and not blindly give up our freedoms in the name of a perceived safety. Acknowledging the value of a platform that allows diverse voices to share their experiences and educate others is essential. Ultimately, it reminds us to navigate changing circumstances with empathy, informed decision-making, and a commitment to upholding both individual liberties and collective well-being.   Resources: Learn more about Ken Ruettgers on: Website:  https://www.voicesformedicalfreedom.com   Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7lqsfPK3NQgjb0pDqEtaEo  Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/voices-for-medical-freedom-podcast/id1662164762    Learn more about Dr. Stanton Hom on: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stanhomdc Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drstantonhom Twitter: https://twitter.com/drstantonhom Website: https://futuregenerationssd.com/  Podcast Website: https://thefuturegen.com Stay Connected with the Future Generations Podcast: Instagram: @futuregenpodcast, @thefuturegensd and @drstantonhom_ Facebook: Future Generations Podcast and Future Generations | Clinic of Chiropractic Website: Future Generations | Clinic of Chiropractic If you would like to learn more about the truth behind the pandemic, please check out The End of C0V1D.  Click the link to sign up: https://theendofcovid.com/ref/352/    Get the Heart of Freedom III Replay here: https://hof3replay.thefuturegen.com/hof3recording Join the Future Generations Community here: https://community.thefuturegen.com   Remember to Rate, Review and Subscribe on iTunes and Follow us on Spotify Follow us on Instagram: @futuregenpodcast   San Diego area residents, take advantage of our special New Patient offer exclusively for podcast listeners here. Summary: People through out the ages have carried the mantle of the Word of God. We follow Jesus Christ as a pattern of what the Father wants from His sons. Today God has raised up a people who have the Spirit of Christ within them and have taken up this mantel of the Word of God as a key part of Christ coming again in a many membered body. Show Notes: The mantle of the Word of God has been carried by many people down through the ages. Through a spiritual genealogy, certain qualities of spirit have been imparted and passed down in God's family. Today a people are picking up the mantle of Christ and are walking it out. Many mantels exist it the world today; all are Christ. There are different expressions, anointing s and groups; all are Christ. Each person must decide to pick up this mantle out of their free will. Because God is raising up the Body of Christ, this mantel is beginning to rest on groups of people as they walk together. It's not about just one person or a couple. The anointing is resting on God's family. It is the responsibility of God's people to take up this mantle and walk it out. Quotes: We've chosen to live under the mantle of Christ, by virtue of our relationship to the Father. There were people all through the ages, that were examples of the mantle, of carrying the mantle, the mantle of the Word of God. God has raised up His family, who are the product of their ancestry. When you're born from above, you were born into a genealogy that included Ruth, David, Zachariah, Elizabeth, there was a genealogy. ...there's a spiritual genealogy of impartation, that's went down through the ages, and it's never stopped. Do we believe it? Do we believe that we have the mantle, do we believe we have the authority? Do we believe that we can walk in these things? ...most recently, He...

How can real estate investors avoid common mistakes and find true success in multifamily syndications?   Angel Williams sits down with fellow real estate investor Kenneth Gee to discuss their journeys into multifamily syndication and passive investing. They share how they each found real estate as a way to gain more freedom and spend time with family, while still earning strong returns. The conversation then dives into the importance of education, choosing the right partners, and truly understanding the business of real estate. Kenneth emphasizes that with the right knowledge, systems and expertise, real estate investors can achieve financial success without unnecessary risk.   Kenneth is the founder and managing partner of KRI Partners and the KRI group of companies. He has more than 24 years of significant real estate, banking, private equity transaction, and principal investing experience. Throughout his career, he has been involved in transactions valued at more than $2.0 billion, much of which has included the acquisition, management, and financing of various multi-family real estate projects.      [00:01:00 - 00:04:00] Getting Started in Real Estate Investing Angel and Kenneth share their origin stories of getting started in real estate investing. They were both seeking more freedom and flexibility to spend time with family. Real estate provided the ability to build wealth while setting their own schedules.   [00:04:00 - 00:08:00] The Problem with Coaching Programs Many new coaching programs promise passive income but don't deliver. The coaches often lack real multifamily investing experience. This sets investors up for failure when they try to raise money.   [00:08:00 - 00:12:00] The Keys to Multifamily Success Education should teach you "what, how and why" to properly run the business. Having an experienced mentor by your side is invaluable. Underwriting is critical and needs to be a living, breathing document.   [00:12:00 - 00:16:00] The Importance of Choosing the Right Partners Kenneth structures programs to ensure students' success in real estate. He shares his systems, spreadsheets and hard-won knowledge. You must know how to choose the right people - management, maintenance, etc.   [00:16:00 - 00:18:00] Mistakes to Avoid as a New Investor Many want GP participation but LP responsibility. Realize it's an active business. Multifamily is far more complex than residential - it's not just adding zeros. Take time to learn the fundamentals before raising money.   Quotes: "We've been at it since 1997. So I went through a way to, and I, I mean, we've gone through a lot, you know?" - Kenneth Gee "I'm going to tell you what to do, but way more important. I'm going to tell you exactly how to do it. “Balance is much more thinking of that image of a surfer on the surfboard riding the wave. Life is going to crash in any number of different directions, but the surfer is there enjoying the ride the entire time,” explains Luke Iorio, host of the podcast, On This Walk. Today, he shares his thoughts on the distillation process for getting back to your most authentic core self.  Part of being your true self is understanding which parts of yourself are actually true to you at your core. If you have always been rewarded for behaving in a certain way or thinking a certain way, you may believe that those values and behaviors are your authentic self. However, they could simply be learned reactions from your environment. Through mindfulness and taking the time to distill yourself down to your core, you can walk away from the old stories that others told you about who you are and replace them with who you know yourself to truly be. Reaching a state of inner balance requires the courage to let go of the inauthentic pieces of yourself and break away from conformity. In doing so, you will open up space for diversity and with it, innovation and creativity.  It can be intimidating to walk away from the version of yourself that you have become based on the input of those around you. However, taking that first step toward your authentic self is always worth the risk. When you greet your true self on the other side of your journey, you will have less stress and an easier time connecting to and empathizing with others.  Quotes: “We've got to be aware of the things that we're getting rewarded to do.” (24:48-24:52 | Luke) “We have to be aware of the environment that we are operating within in terms of when that change is best suited.” (30:56-31:03 | Luke) “Balance is much more thinking of that image of a surfer on the surfboard riding the wave. Life is going to crash in any number of different directions, but the surfer is there enjoying the ride the entire time.” (33:14-33:27 | Luke) “When you are coming at things from that place that is more centered and more peaceful within yourself, you're going to be a whole lot less reactionary, you're going to have a lot lower level of stress.” (35:31-35:40 | Luke)  “A reason why most people don't create a whole lot of change inside of their lives is they don't want to risk any form of loss.” (36:46-36:52 | Luke) Links: Mentioned in this episode: Learn more about Mike Horne on Linkedin Email Mike at mike@mike-horne.com Learn More About Executive and Organization Development with Mike Horne   Learn more about Luke Iorio: LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/lukeiorio Website: onthiswalk.com Twitter: lukeiorio     Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

She is also the author of the children's book, A Time for Rain, and co-editor of the landmark textbook Integrative Therapies for Depression. She's the founder of the online healing program Vital Mind Reset, and the membership community Vital Life Project. She specializes in a root-cause solution approach to psychiatric syndromes and symptoms. In this episode, Dr Kelly discusses the way she lives her life, her wisdom for freedom and sovereignty, and how you can transform into who you are truly meant to be.   Dr. Kelly Brogan is the voice over for The End of C0V1D trailer and also a co-host for several sessions of this monumental educational experience.  If you would like to hear more from Dr. Brogan and dozens of other esteemed professionals, you can sign up for The End of C0V1D here: https://theendofcovid.com/ref/352/  Quotes: “We've become so disconnected from our own compass and desires. That's a big part of the work I've been doing in my life right now, trying to figure out what I want.” - Dr Kelly Brogan “If you are not in a relationship, this does not mean you are not required to work. In fact, it means you have a launching pad to work on yourself before consciously entering into a relationship.” - Dr Kelly Brogan “I believe we are not typically conditioned to consider the potential consequences of exercising caution and taking precautions to keep ourselves and others safe, as well as doing the right thing. So that's what virtue signaling is all about: our deep desire to be perceived as good. And because we were taught as children that there is good and bad behavior, we hide all of the negative aspects of ourselves in our shadow.” - Dr Kelly Brogan Key Takeaways: Coming into contact with this kind of sacred power of attention is part of what that curiosity can bring forth. We have to step into a new way of relating to upset, adversity, challenges, problems, and symptoms, without the reflexive engagement of that warfare impulse that is deep within all of us. It is important for your humanity that you do not enter the normalization vibration. Not giving up on expressing one's discomfort does not imply that one must do anything differently. Highlight/Timeline:   [07:17] One big influence that Led Dr Kelly to the version she is today [21:43] One of the biggest challenges we face today [30:45] What's the big kind of purpose and mission behind what this version of Dr Kelly is doing now? [34:07] What virtue signaling is and why it matters [48:52] The purpose of empowering people to organize around their own gifts  [54:57] What do you think the world looks like? Conclusion: Dr. Kelly Brogan reminds us how truly sovereign we are. And that all we need to do is own it at the very core of who we are. Kelly, with incredible grace and wisdom, exudes certainty and conviction. That should be the blueprint for today's free human. Gathering with people who share your values is more important than ever. Not so you can isolate yourself, but so you can cultivate the fields that will support you during times of change, when you're afraid, and to reflect back the truth that you hold when you're at your strongest. “We've built the 100 Collective to be a public facing national directory of and membership for women-owned small businesses looking to find, hire, and network with other women just like them,” explains host Kiley Peters, founder and CEO of RAYNE IX and founder of The 100 Collective. Today, Kiley shares more information about the mission of The 100 Collective and how you can get involved. The 100 Collective just celebrated its beta launch on February 13th, 2023, so now is the perfect time to get in on the ground floor. The mission of The 100 Collective is to be a place where all women identifying entrepreneurs can access resources and empower one another to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. This is meant to be a safe space, with a zero tolerance policy for catty, judgemental behaviors. There are 4 membership tiers that each offer a different level of benefits, with more features to be rolled out in the coming months. In the interest of accessibility, the first membership tier, which just includes a listing in the public facing directory, is available for free to qualified women business owners. Society has been holding women back for long enough. The 100 Collective is working to give women business owners the space, support, and resources they need to empower themselves and one another. Because when women are empowered, they can change the world. “If I can use multiple variables to make someone get better, that will be much more sustainable, and that person will be much healthier, explains Jim Laird, Strength & Conditioning Coach. In today's episode, guest hosts Jim Laird and Dr. Leland Stillman return to discuss adjusting your circadian clock during daylight savings and how light aids with athletic performance. Through their knowledge of quantum biology, they share what it means to be a quantum athlete and healthier individual overall. With our modern lifestyles, we are constantly indoors, negatively affecting our fitness and health. For instance, if we expose ourselves to blue light at night, our bodies believe its day time, which throws off the regeneration process of our mitochondria. Without proper sleep, we cannot optimize our physical performance and fulfill our athletic goals. To counteract this, find time to go outside and take in that natural light our bodies are meant to have. Quantum Health is changing how athletes train. Learn more about how light boosts sports recovery, red infrared light's melatonin-boosting effects, and the types of devices Dr. Leland recommends. Quotes “We've built this modern lifestyle that's taking people away from nature, and eventually, people will have to figure out some ways to work around that.” (11:42-12:38 | Jim) “You've got to get bright, visible light during the day. And you've got to avoid blue and green light at night if you're going to have a healthy sleep for optimal performance.” (15:26-15:36 | Dr. Leland) “When it comes to athletes, what they need to understand is their performance is strongly linked to light signals in their environment because the stronger their circadian rhythms are, and the more light they're exposed to during the day, the better they're going to perform.” (22:47-23:04 | Dr. Leland)  “If I can use multiple variables to make someone get better, that will be much more sustainable, and that person will be much healthier.” (41:40-41:47 | Jim) “If you're not buying a lens that's dark red or orange, it's not blocking an adequate amount of blue light to protect your circadian rhythms at night.” (49:21-49:30 | Dr. Leland) Links Connect with Dr. Leland Stillman: Website: https://stillmanmd.com/ Instagram: @stillmanMD Substack: https://stillmanmd.substack.com/   Connect with Jim Laird: Instagram: @gymlaird   To find a practitioner who understand the health principles of quantum biology: www.quantumbiologycollective.org  To become a QBC member and get invites to live deep dives & access to our video library: www.quantumhealthtv.com  To take our 8 week practitioner certification in the science of quantum biology so that you can add it to your existing area of expertise: www.appliedquantumbiology.com    Follow on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook: @quantumhealthtv    Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

“In this work, if it's not real and specific, it will not be able to advance the dialogue,” explains returning guest Lloyd Johnson, CEO of Chief Legal Executive. In part two of this two part-series, Lloyd and Chris discuss Lloyd's exciting project, The Roadmap to Inclusion. Devoted to the DEI conversation inside corporate law departments, Lloyd reveals this project's scope and what is still missing from diversity discussions. As one of the pioneering champions of DEI practices, Lloyd has seen our progress and how far we need to go. Although he acknowledges that our actual progress depends on who you ask, he celebrates that this is the golden age for Black general counsel. We can praise this as a success metric with 58 to 62 Black men and women on general counsel in billion-dollar companies. Although we should see this as a win, we still have much to do to solidify and expand these positive changes. We can create more legal spaces with diversity and inclusion with the right tactics. Learn more about the details of the Roadmap to Inclusion project, Lloyd's DEI best practices research, and protecting the progress that has been made. Quotes “We've identified five competencies: courageous leadership, intentionality, accountability, innovation/creativity, and tactical execution. And I think that in this report, you will find a degree of granularity about specific tactics and some specifics around processes that you normally don't see.” (6:46-7:13| Lloyd) “In this work, if it's not real and specific, it will not be able to advance the dialogue.” (7:32-7:39| Lloyd) “When you look at the money and time spent as it relates to advancing diversity, especially as it relates to people of color and law firms to have that level of investment and somewhat of a flatline, that demonstrates that there's a lot of progress to go.” (19:01-19:34| Lloyd) “If people are very intentional and focused over the next two to three years, the gains that have been made throughout the last decades; we can not only protect them, we can grow them.” (19:48-20:05| Lloyd) “Probably the most critical part of DEI work is change management, which has nothing to do with race, gender, or any of the other attributes of diversity.” (21:16-21:30| Lloyd) Links Chief Legal aExecutive   Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

Hiring, Finding, and Keeping Great Team Members Episode #423 with Kevin Henry Great team members are hard to come by. And even if you find them, how do you keep them in your office? It's becoming harder than ever, so Kirk Behrendt brings in Kevin Henry, co-founder of IgniteDA, to share his findings for the best practices to find, hire, and keep great people. Patience is one key ingredient — and you will need lots of it! For more expert advice on keeping the best team members, listen to Episode 423 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Branch out into other industries to find great people.  Have patience. Finding the right person takes time. Start having “stay” interviews, not exit interviews. Play to your team members' strengths and talents. Create a space where you have mutual respect. Ensure that your team members feel listened to. Always thank and recognize your team members. Find ways to incorporate fun into your practice. Quotes: “We've got to quit having exit interviews and we've got to start having stay interviews. We've got to start talking to our team members right now about their goals, their hopes, what they like, and have those open and honest conversations about what they don't like in the practice as well, what's that one system in the practice that's tripping them up every day that they dread coming in because of that. I think when we have those open, honest conversations and those team members hear that we're actually interested in not only fixing and tweaking those problems but also how they can be a part of things moving forward, and that they are really a part of the plan, that changes the dynamic in the practice completely.” (5:30—6:07) “Set up a time, and it's not the end of the day, when you and a team member — and I think it should be a one-on-one. I don't think it should be everybody sitting around the room — where you both can really focus on things. You both can take notes. You both can put aside the phone, everything else, and just say, ‘What can we do to make each other better? What can we both do together to make this business better?' Because, as you know, it's not just a dental practice, it's a business. How do you grow that bottom line together?” (6:29—6:55) “[Ask team members,] ‘Where do you see yourself in six months? Is this what you love to do? If not, why?' I think things like that where you can actually open up the door for honest communication — and let's be honest, not every team member is going to want to share this. Not everybody is comfortable sharing where they're not happy in the practice. But I think if you really set that, ‘This is a safe zone. This is Vegas. What happens in here, stays here. But we're also going to do what we can to move forward,' I think that that's a really important thing for team members to know that they can talk openly and freely, and that it's not going to be held against them two weeks later.” (7:28—8:05) “One of the biggest things that I'm hearing from a lot of team members out there — I've seen it — people throwing money at people to stay. And it turns into a bidding war. And I will tell you, the vast majority of team members I talk to, it's not about the money. It is about being happy. It's about being productive. It's about feeling like you're part of the team.” (8:16—8:38) “I don't think you have to like everybody you work with. But I think you've got to respect everybody that you work with. And I think there has to be that mutual respect in the practice as well. So, what are you doing in the practice to build those relationships where people don't look at somebody as “just” an assistant or “just” a sterilization tech, or whatever it might be? And I think whenever you build up that mutual respect in the practice, that's a big step toward those people going, ‘This is a place where I want to stay.'” (8:43—9:11) “[When a great team member is thinking about leaving,] you've got to ask that team member what's important to...

Is Private Practice Dead? Episode #420 with Corinne Jameson-Kuehl, RDH, BS DSOs have become more prevalent. But it doesn't mean private practice is dead! In fact, it's thriving, and Kirk Behrendt brings in Corinne Jameson-Kuehl, owner of Custom Dental Solutions, to share her knowledge and experience to help you succeed in getting started. Whether you're buying a new practice, starting from scratch, going group or solo, she offers her best practices so you can achieve your practice goals and thrive. To learn more, listen to Episode 420 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Private practice dentistry is still alive and thriving. Understand the key foundational pieces for success. Be aware of innocent misunderstandings to avoid. Prepare appropriately so you're more likely to succeed.   Quotes: “We've seen through the years with dentistry, private practice can thrive and really do well with the right parameters in place. I don't believe, as a whole, a lot of our new owners need anything other than a really good foundation to start their practices, get a few pieces in place that maybe they didn't learn in dental school, and then, at the right time, bring in their consulting group to ramp up their production and evaluate efficiencies and all these types of things. And they really can manage quite effectively on their own without giving some outside company a percentage of what they're working so hard for on a day-to-day basis.” (4:10—4:51) “There are a few pieces that [practice owners] need in place to be successful. Number one, we want to make sure they get credentialed appropriately. If they're going to be in an environment where it is insurance-based versus fee-for-service, which most new owners, we encourage they need to take some insurances and they need to build that rapport before they would even consider going fee-for-service. So, fraudulently, a lot of these people do not get credentialed appropriately and they think they can work under the previous owner's name or their license or something, which is big fraud.” (5:54—6:27) “I just told a new owner the other day, because she said, ‘Well, I don't know about this. I don't know about that.' And I said, ‘We just need to start. We just need to protect it from the beginning. You can bring all the fancy stuff later, after the smoke clears. But we do need to have policies of what's expected of you as an employer, and then what's expected of them as employees. And then, written job descriptions. We need that in place as well before we start hiring people. Or if we're transitioning with the team that the previous owner had, is there a transition agreement in place? What does that look like? How are we moving forward with that relationship?' So, those are foundational.” (6:58—7:36) “There truly are some innocent misunderstandings about [the credentialing] process, and I think people mean well when they just don't understand, and they think it's okay. The reality is, each licensed professional, meaning a dentist, needs to apply for their own credential with that insurance company. So, if they're purchasing a practice where they're Delta Premier — which is wonderful; this is great — they themselves need to apply for that as well. It is fraud to work under the previous owner's Premiere status or anything like that. And unfortunately, we see that all the time. And most of the time, it truly is innocent. People really don't know any better. But I would really hate to have somebody who's just starting off start off on the wrong foot simply because they just didn't do their research to know that this is what needs to be in place.”  (8:14—9:05) “You can have different providers in the same location taking different insurances. But it is a nightmare for the administrators and for the schedulers as well, because we really have to be careful that if somebody would be credentialed with a different insurance company, [like a dentist taking over their father's...

Want to start living in a way that's better for the environment? Lost on how to start your plant-based eating journey?  In this episode of the Live Your Personal Best podcast, I speak with Izolda Trakhtenberg, a proud vegan for 15 years and the host of The Vegan Life podcast.  Listen to this episode as we dive deep into why eating plant-based foods is more ethical than traditional foods. Episode Timeline [3:38] Izolda talks about her roots and why she started her vegan journey [5:40] Izolda revealed the massive effects of shifting to a vegan diet [8:51] Izolda shares her thoughts on why plant-based eating has become more popular, especially nowadays [10:56] Izolda chats about the element of convenience in restaurants and what you should do if there are no vegan options on the menu [14:56] Izolda shares if her attitudes and relationship towards food changed when she started her vegan journey. [18:51] Izolda debunks the most common myths revolving around veganism. [20:01] Izolda describes what she feels when surrounded by people who still consume meat and animal products. [25:15] Izolda shares her advice for those who'd like to start their vegan journey.  Key Takeaways Agriculture, especially animal farming and food production, takes a lot of the resources like energy and gas. The fewer spaces for farms intended for animal production, the more spaces we could have for trees and places where people could stay and live. You've been fed food authorities recommended that might not be best for you. You should take a step back and assess the food recommended by the authorities that you consume. When you start eating vegan, you become more conscious and thoughtful of your food choices. Many people have the stereotype that vegans are smug or arrogant. Vegans are perceived to be like this because they don't want animals to suffer in the animal slaughter system. When you want to start your vegan diet: Go slow and start small. Consult with your doctor if going vegan is right for you. Be aware of how much you're eating and the quality of your food. Consider having a food diary on what you ate and what you felt after you ate them. Quotes “We've been fed a steady diet of what we should eat that may or may not be the best for us.” - Izolda [9:37] “We can be very mindful and very purposeful with our choices if you really keep in mind why you're becoming vegan.” - Izolda [27:32]  Connect with Izolda : Website: https://theveganlife.show  Follow the podcast: https://www.instagram.com/liveyourpb/ Learn more about your ad choices. Gary and co-host Rich have been on and off colleagues at various companies. On today's episode, these two men recount the cash cow product that led them to create a completely new market category. Quotes • “We've got to create a market category. If we can create this market category, we can define and own that space, and then everybody else in the industry will be basically competing on our terms.” (08:01-08:13) • “So now, this category is being tracked, based on our definition, our terms. We've basically created the haul of all the roles in the playing fields.” (11:26-11:38) • “You get the analyst, you start to introduce this term. So, now when they're interviewing service providers, you're interviewing other competitors in the vendor market. But what it did is it allowed us to change the narrative with our sales team. So, rather than coming in and saying 802.3AH, they can come in and talk about Mid-Band Ethernet.” (13:10-13:32) • “I think by saying it was the new cash cow, it really provided an opening, so we had some sex appeal.” (21:10-21:16) Links Hatteras Network Cash Cow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvXDFEKVdD8 Learn more about Connect2 Communications: Website: https://www.connect2comm.com/ Podcast home page: https://www.connect2comm.com/podcast Twitter handle: @Connect2_Comm Instagram handle: @connect2_comm LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/connect2-communications Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Connect2-Communications

**TW: This episode contains a description of a violent hate crime.**   “It's a Fitbit for your mouth,” says Andrew Lee, Registered Dental Hygienist and Founder of Otis Dental. Drew is describing his Brux-Sensor Night Guard, a micro-dental-sensor technology that helps monitor and regulate your stress levels by recording your teeth grinding during sleep! Drew was recently awarded a patent for this technology, which he hopes will help users proactively identify heightened stress levels, even if they don't consciously notice them.   Drew tells listeners that bruxism, or the involuntary clenching of the mouth and grinding of the teeth, is actually at the root of several top burnout symptoms. If you are experiencing headaches, neck or shoulder tension or insomnia, chances are that bruxism is involved. Drew notes that the dental industry has been relatively stagnant when it comes to addressing issues like bruxism, and the clunky night guards that dentists offer patients are often expensive and ineffective. Drew has made it his mission to create a direct-to-consumer offering that cuts out the middleman and brings customers the relief they need at an affordable price point.   Tune into this week's episode FRIED. The Burnout Podcast to learn more about how bruxism could be tied to your burnout. Learn more about Drew's own burnout story (he suffered from bruxism himself!), the three main causes of bruxism, and Drew's top tips and tricks for overcoming your bruxism to reduce stress, improve sleep and protect your teeth!   Quotes • “We've got to focus more in the dental industry on preventative measures rather than restoratives where it becomes too late and now you need to get botox injections in your jaw or you have to get all these fillings and crowns and implants and bridges and then eventually by the time we're older, we end up with dentures and then we never really question, ‘What did I do to make it go this way?'” (08:15-08:36) • “The truth is [dentists] are people, too. They have their flaws and their limitations. It's just like seeing doctors or firefighters who smoke, and they know the dangers of it. It's just contradictory and hypocritical – that's just who we are. We're humans.” (11:33-11:47) • “Especially in this modernization of the digital world, we forget everything that our bodies are telling us and then it becomes asymptomatic where it's still happening to us, we just don't feel it anymore because we choose not to feel it.” (13:25-13:37) • “That's where meditation comes in. Find your core again. Remember who you were before this all happened. You're there, you're still in there – you just really need to pull that person back out of the darkness and say, ‘You're ok, you're gonna be ok. You can do this.'” (22:22-22:38)  • “70% of the reason why we brux is because of stress, some form of stress....The remaining 30% can be a combination of just misaligned teeth….A huge factor is also medication. There are a lot of antidepressants that actually cause bruxism." This week, Kevin welcomes Jonathan Elist, CEO of Penuma, an amazing solution for men that is not your traditional product. Jonathan discusses what Penuma is, and how radical transparency and trust are at the top of Penuma's core values. He talks about some of the challenges in building the community, and how they balance both in-house marketing with agency outreach. He and Kevin also discuss Google Ads, Reddit, and word of mouth as a way to grow brand awareness and attract a network of happy customers and top-notch physicians.   Takeaways: [2:38] Jonathan talks about building patient awareness around Penuma, and the two phases within the approach — FDA clearance and an actual patient awareness campaign. [5:22] Penuma's first approach was to build out a Google Ads campaign that complemented the SEO strategies and brought in organic traffic. The quality of leads wasn't that great, and that is something Jonathan and his team have always had to contend with and continue to find ways to improve. [8:43] They had to also establish legitimacy that they were not just another brand selling a crazy product or snake oil. This is where radical transparency came in and building long-term rapport with their customers. They also worked on not only building trust with consumers but with Google Ads and Facebook as well. [12:47] There's not a lot of negativity about Penuma, which is not always the case for similar products. Jonathan shares how they got men to step up and share their success stories and passion around the brand. [16:48] The quality of the leads brought in by Google Ads has not been as good as social or organic. [18:08] Kevin calls for an end to lead generation via LinkedIn. Stop the madness! Or at the very least — stop reaching out to him! [19:09] Three things that account for Penuma's success in marketing: establishing themselves correctly, distinguishing their brand from the nonsense, and catching people at the right time to make their decision. [20:35] Jonathan shares how he got on the phone with Google, and how it's a two-way conversation with Facebook and LinkedIn rather than a one-sided favor. [23:29] As of the time of recording, Penuma may be on the search for a Marketing Director. Think you are a good fit? Reach out! [25:37] Reddit can be the root of evil, or it can prop up companies. Penuma has a great Reddit Communitywhere men can communicate with each other and share their experiences. [31:55] Jonathan gets beautiful handwritten notes and testimonials from men that they can use to show in their marketing geared not only towards prospective patients, but also a network of physicians. [38:41] Penuma wants to try to position themselves as a leader in a space providing a way for men to gain more confidence and to feel their best. For years, the aesthetic space has been dominated by products geared towards women, but they are happy to be part of the forward change.   Quotes: “We've been extremely transparent around what we can and cannot offer.” — Jonathan “If you are on LinkedIn trying to sell me leads… please stop.” — Kevin   Mentioned in This Episode: Penuma Joe Rogan

#130 Must-Ask Photographer Questions With Kathy Thomas

The Big Wedding Planning Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 6, 2019 65:03

Kathy Thomas is AWESOME. We love talking to photographers on the podcast and we've had a few episodes with guests that are professional wedding photographers. Kathy has great advice for hiring a wedding photographer - stuff we haven't heard before. She even surprised us with some of her tips and tricks - specifically for couples heading to their initial consultation with a photographer. You know, the meeting where you decide if you want to hire this photographer or not! It's important! We talk a lot about how this decision isn't just about budget. There's more to it, much more, and Kathy is showing us the way...she's wise. We loved having her on the podcast. Kathy Thomas Photography began 5.5 years ago after Kathy moved from NYC to Orlando. She has been named one of the Top 3 photographers in Nashville, and only wedding photographer by Nashville Scene while also having been nominated twice for RangeFinder Magazine 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography Worldwide 2 years in a row. Kathy's photography is influenced by 17 years in luxury fashion retail. She brings her love for fashion, beauty, architecture and the art of craftsmanship into her wedding style. Her goal is to never be trendy, yet timeless, modern, stylish and romantic. She has shot weddings in seven countries and over 14 states. Kathy also mentors a number of wedding professionals and believe in building other up and when we all win that is the real success of this industry. Big Takeaways A photographer's ‘ideal client' for weddings is a couple that trusts the photographer. Kathy knows she will be a great fit with the client when there is an immediate connection between her and the couple. You can't fake that connection. She takes the initial interview as a way to really get to know them. She is clear that a client (couple) has to let her in for the relationship to work, and the product to be what the client wants. Nashville is a cool mix for wedding styles - there are places that elicit pride for locals, or people raised in Nashville. There are historic venues, the music industry, high budget minimalistic wedding style, huge wedding parties and elaborate entertainment at weddings. You are HOSTING a wedding...implement the skills of your favorite hostess in life. How does a great party feel? How can you ensure that your wedding feels that way? In Nashville, the weddings are more traditional (and bigger) than other places in America...and a value is placed on the idea of ‘hosting' - people take pride in how a guest experiences the wedding weekend. Families are involved. Heirlooms and family traditions are present...and a photographer needs to know about these things so that they can make sure to shoot them! Pricing...we know it's vague with wedding vendors and we know that it's frustrating! Kathy has a starting price for packages that she is transparent about with clients upfront. Pricing can go up from there. In general, if a couple reaches out and the first thing they talk about is pricing, Kathy knows that they likely won't book her. Not a good fit. (Good rule of thumb...if the photographer you want is more than the event rental fee, you may not be able to afford that photographer.) An engagement session is important! It allows the photographer to get to know the couple. It helps to start with a cocktail! (She is not the first photographer that told us this.) But Kathy doesn't consider the engagement session totally necessary. But the face-time is what's really important. So if you aren't going to have an engagement session for some reason, make sure you at least get to have one face-to-face meeting with the photographer. You need this familiarity. Things you can ask your photographer (before you hire them!) And do a little research ahead of time so that you are prepared for different answers... * What camera equipment does she use? * How does she back up her files? * Does she bring extra equipment and backup batteries etc on the wedding day? * What's up with the assistant? Is the assistant a second shooter? Will Kathy review and oversee the assistant's photos after the event? Does the assistant have their own company? Can you see the assistant's work too? * Do you edit the photos or outsource that service? * How will the time be spent during the wedding day? (Like half and half with bride and groom each getting ready, for example) * Will you create a wedding day timeline for us? The important thing is to be forthcoming and honest! We've been getting shit done.” - Michelle “We keep hearing that Nashville is the place to come for weddings!” - Christy “Millennials are into unique experiences and I am too. I don't blame them one bit. You do this once, you hope. You do it once... and this is that one big kabam to get everyone together to celebrate in a big way. And with everything going on in the world, it's becoming more and more important. My couples specifically care about the experience and they care about what the experience is like with my photography team. They want to entertain their guests. So everything tends to be a little over-the-top.” - Kathy Thomas, on priorities “I love the dynamic of a huge wedding party. I love it. I live vicariously through their weddings a little bit.” - Kathy doesn't want to shoot an intimate ceremony on a mountain top...she wants a huge ass wedding in a gorgeous church with lots and lots of bridesmaids! (I mean, she loves big weddings is the point.) “I have a pretty lengthy interview process. I either want to meet with them in person, or we'll have a good hour long talk on the phone. This is your opportunity to talk to me, and for me to talk to you. I tell them often that the imagery of mine that they see, I can't achieve that unless there is trust there.” - Kathy on booking clients. There has to be a connection. “If a couple doesn't really touch each other in the hour that they meet me, they probably aren't my people.” - Kathy, intuition! “Most of my weddings have a full planning planner and the planner and I are getting paid about the same.” - Kathy, as a reference point for budgeting Get In Touch EMAIL: thebigweddingplanningpodcast@gmail.com FACEBOOK: @TBWPpodcast INSTAGRAM: @thebigweddingplanningpodcast BE SURE TO USE THE HASHTAG: #planthatwedding TWITTER: @TBWPpodcast PHONE: (415) 723-1625 Leave us a message and you might hear your voice on the show! “...the child operates as a powerful figure in our society, where children can mobilize anything, from anxieties about same sex marriage to fears about children in detention, and all these things that we see in our own society today.” Dr. Annie McCarthy, who teaches anthropology at the Australian National University, tells our own Jodie-Lee Trembath about the moral pitfalls of aid and development in the slums of Delhi, India, how the poor and the young take power back from NGOs that may inadvertently objectify them, and how “stunting,” a term that should describe low height for age, becomes a shorthand for cultural assumptions about family life. Annie also talks about teaching, what it's like to research children, and the importance of getting to know “the anthropologist behind the anthropology.” Find Annie's work on her Academia page, or follow her on Twitter at @anni_mc. CITATIONS Ferguson, James. (1990). The anti-politics machine : "development," depoliticization, and bureaucratic power in Lesotho. Cambridge [England] ; New York : Cambridge University Press UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: http://www.ohchr.org/EN/ProfessionalInterest/Pages/CRC.aspx [accessed 7 Jan 2018] QUOTES “We've all seen those images of those children with the bloated bellies and the fly-besotted eyes… We're very familiar with the rendering of that kind of abject state of child poverty and the way it's used as a kind of lever to get donors to generously part with their money." “...the word ‘stunted' was just so much more than a kind of bodily referent, you know, I just felt like, well, you know, you don't know anything about me. You don't know what I might do in my life, you don't know where I might go in my life. You know, maybe I'm going to be a few centimeters shorter than I would have been, but who even knows what I would have been? Who are you to say that my life is somehow less than it could have been?” “It's eugenics that enables this population norm to measure people against.” “It's like, okay, these kids have survived, but the rest of their lives are kind of called into question by these paradigms, and the life of the nation [India] more broadly.” This anthropology podcast is supported by the Australian Anthropological Society, the schools of Culture, History, and Language and Archaeology and Anthropology at Australian National University, and the Australian Centre for the Public Awareness of Science.
