For Cain, God's rejection of his gift was depressing enough to cause him to murder.Genesis 4:3-5 (NLT) When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the LORD. Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The LORD accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.Notice two emotions here: anger + dejection. Deeper emotion: dejection. Why?Comparison game: God rejected his gift, accepted Abel's = insecureCan you relate? See 7 Deadly SinsSubstitute anger is a false pathway to control – making you feel powerful instead of vulnerable. Genesis 4:6-7Substitute anger actually causes a loss of control – both emotionally and relationally, and even spiritually. James 1:20, 1 John 3:10The antidote to anger is to be vulnerable and practice silence – just as Jesus did. Psalm 4:4, Ephesians 4:26-27Why was he mad at Able for God's rejection?Possibly stinginess: “some of his crops” vs. “the best portions”It is better to give than to receive (it's true!)The love of money is the root of evilEither way - led to dejection, depression, being downcastGenesis 4:6-7 (NLT) “Why are you so angry?” the LORD asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”This is what the enemy wants to do: recruit your emotions for evilGod wants you to harness your emotions for goodHere's how Cain's story ended:Genesis 4:8 (NLT) One day Cain suggested to his brother, “Let's go out into the fields.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him.For Cain, God's rejection of his gift was depressing enough to cause him to murder.Perfect example of “The wages of sin is death.”Q. What has anger killed off in your life?A relationshipA job opportunityYour inner peacePart 2: Moses' AngerPoint: Anger can also boil over from unresolved frustration. For Moses, this is what happened on his way to the Promised Land.Explain the exodus, people complaining (again), God's instructions and...

When it comes to oxymorons, the moronic practice of fighting for peace comes to mind. In a passionate relationship, a good fight can lead to an amazing breakthrough and a bad fight can lead to a nasty breakdown. The difference between a good fight, and a bad fight, is the intention that we bring into it. The EmPOWERment Couple has been busy doing some market research on the subject of conflict resolution, and what we found was a simple solution to attain peace. In this peaceful discussion, we address:The value of a good fight in a relationshipHow to enter into proper peace negotiations with your partnerWhat peace does for you, your partner, and your relationshipA powerful tool that will help facilitate a peaceful fightOnce we drop our swords and knives, lay down our shields, strip out of our armor, and stand naked and exposed, we allow our partner to do the same. Imagine a lifetime spent stripped clean of fear and aggression from and for your partner. It is at this stage in the relationship that The EmPOWERment Couple encourages you to strive. When we feel safe to grow and free to create within our bodies and our relationships, we gain access to a power source that is unlimited, flowing, and life-giving. This source, also known as love, is easily reached when we fight for peace. September 12: The Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin MaryOptional Memorial; Liturgical Color: WhiteEvery name begins a relationshipA name doesn't imply that you know everything about someone, but it does make a person “invocable.” To know that there is a “someone” standing before you is not to know too much. When that “someone” has a name, however, he or she is placed in relationship with you, and relationships are what matter most. By means of a name, we go beyond a mere concept, beyond a mere thing. A name includes another in our circle of shared existence. No one wants to be a mere number, or to be just a “Nigerian,” just an “athlete,”or just an “accountant.” Titles and monikers flatten people. They reduce someone to where they came from, what they excel at, their profession, their hair color, their language, and on and on. A name opens a door to the more complex reality that is every human soul. The God of Christianity is not a mere concept who “does” but a being who “Is.” He has a name. He is “Abba” or “Father.” He is Jesus Christ. He is the Holy Spirit. It's hard to imagine truly knowing, or loving, a nameless entity whose identity is its function. We don't, after all, love “country.” We love Poland, or the Philippines, or Bolivia. And we don't love “husband” or “wife,” we love the concrete, specific, named person to whom we are married. Our love of God begins in the same way our love of people does—by asking His name.Jesus Himself called out “Mary!”in the garden on the morning of His resurrection, and her spoken name elicited a beautiful response: “Rabboni!” In Chapter Three of the Book of Exodus, God calls Moses by name to approach Him in the burning bush. God first states that He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But Moses is not completely satisfied with knowing that God is, or for whom He is. So Moses asks the question everyone asks when they want to deepen a relationship: “What's your name?” God then pulls the curtains aside and invites Moses into His inner life, into relationship with Him. He reveals something more intimate. He tells Moses His name—“Yahweh” or “I am Who I Am.” God hands over part of Himself to man. He can now be called upon. He is invocable. No one can force you to reveal your name. It's personal, because to reveal your name is to become vulnerable.Today the Church commemorates a name as much as the person who bears it. The holiness of the name of God, which the Second Commandment forbids man to take in vain, is reflected in the holy names of all the saints and holy things and holy places dedicated to Him. The name of the Mother of God, the Holy or Blessed Virgin Mary, should be safe in our mouths. This feast falls during the Octave of the Birthday of the Virgin Mary and was inserted into the Church's universal calendar just after the triumph of the Christian army over the Turks at the Battle of Vienna in 1683. The feast was suppressed after Vatican II but once again placed in the calendar by Pope Saint John Paul II in 2002.Mary's name evokes tenderness and maternity. All Christians should call upon the blessed name of the Mother of God as the most powerful intercessor before the throne of Her Son in heaven. Her name puts us in relationship with her. She is not far away. She is close to us, as a mother should be, and she wants to be called upon by her children who are so in need of her.Saint Mary, may your holy name be always respected and honored, because you are closer to God than we are, because you know Him more intimately than we do, and because we trust that you will be with us now and at the hour of our death. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved." —Ludwig von MisesThe stock market is going to crash in the next three years and wipe out half the market.Either that or the Feds will continue to print so much new cash to avoid a crash that your savings will be worth half their current value. For tens of millions of zero-asset Americans, and those with the means and discipline to save for the future, these punishing scenarios amount to six of one, half-dozen of the other. But the grifters who've profited wildly from the debt-fueled rise in real estate, stock, and crypto prices don't care.Because they're all in on the scam.Pretty much everyone agreesYou know the market is a fraud when share prices double or triple despite profits getting crushed by a global pandemic.A crash is coming, it's just a matter of when and how large. The Economist's Intelligence Unit thinks a bubble burst is highly probable.Jon Wolfenbarger, of the Mises Institute, thinks this crash will be worse than 2008, dropping at least 60%.Michael Burry (of The Big Short fame) thinks we're in a massive bubble and the looming crash will be the worst in history.Approximately 50% of Wall Street strategists think the S&P 500 will end the year below current levels. (Bank of America thinks -10%, Morgan Stanley thinks -20%.)Investor John Hussman (who predicted the dot-com bubble burst) thinks the market will crash 66%.Jeremy Grantham thinks we're in a bubble the size of 2008 or 1929.The European Securities and Markets Authority thinks we're in a bubble.Mega-criminal Warren Buffett thinks a crash is coming and has over $140 billion ready to deploy. The top 15 non-financial companies (including Apple, Alphabet/Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta/Facebook) think a crash is coming and have stockpiled more than $1 trillion to go shopping when it does. Here are five reasons why we're in this bubble, and why it's going to burst:1. Insane new investorsKids these days.Boomers robbed them of their future, so instead of even bothering with futile attempts to build real, productive, contributive businesses in the face of government-controlling tax-evading multinational monopolies, they decided to passively play the markets instead.Enter commission-free predator apps like Robinhood. In the past two years, millions of young people have jumped onto these platforms and are treating the stock market like the casino it is.Unlike traditional value investors who pore over thousands of pages of documents in order to make sound decisions about stock purchases, young people essentially trade the news, or even mere tweets. Just look at who's run Tesla up to a trillion dollars, even though it's not worth 1/20th that much:But you'll never convince a bitboy or a Tesla maniac that meme-stonking isn't a risky house of cards that's bound to collapse. After all, everyone's an expert during a hysterics-fueled bull run.Joe Kennedy, the infamous father of President JFK, managed to dodge the 1929 crash after having an epiphany while getting his shoes shined on Wall Street, saying:“When even shoeshine boys are giving you stock tips, it's time to sell.”But rents and food prices are going up, and when this bubble does pop, all these young people won't have jobs or free Internet money.2. Borrow-to-investWhy hasn't the world learned our lesson by now?If you let millions of people borrow money to buy the same stock…The stock price will go up…Which allows stockholders to borrow more money…So they can buy more stock…And create massive market bubbles that eventually burst and destroy millions of lives.Easy credit is what caused the Great Depression, people.I'll say what no corporate-captured political party will ever tell you:It should be illegal to invest on margin.Especially for crypto. Thanks to DeFi, perhaps no market is as hyper-leveraged as the $3 trillion crypto market, which may have less than 10% real wealth behind it. But when people need to withdraw to pay real bills — or when the US starts heavily regulating the space — trillions will get wiped out.3. Wild valuationsThe price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is considered the benchmark number for comparing one company's stock price to another. The ratio is based on the current stock price divided by the trailing 12-month earnings per share. If a stock price is $10/share, and the P/E ratio is 10, it means that company is earning $1 per share. If you buy a $10 share with a P/E of 20, it'll roughly take you 20 years to break even.Warren Buffett likes to buy stocks with a P/E of around 12.The S&P 500's long-term median P/E ratio is around 15.The S&P 500's current P/E ratio is around 29 — nearly double its century-long average — despite the pandemic. (#Bubble)Apple's P/E is typically around 30.Amazon's P/E hovers around 60.Tesla's P/E ratio is currently over 330.That's $1 worth of earnings for every $330 invested.Would you really buy a business with an ROI of 0.3%? Would you acquire a company that would take over three centuries to break even?4. InflationWhen governments print trillions of dollars out of thin air and loan it to investors to pump into asset bubbles, the price of everything rises.[Learn how to calculate your personal inflation rate here.]When prices rise rapidly, people starve, freeze, go bankrupt, or take to the streets demanding change. That's how Hitler came to power in Germany. When inflation soars due to price rises due to money printing, governments have two choices:A. Raise interest rates and likely trigger panic and a crash that lobs 50+% off the market in the next five years.B. Print more money out of thin air to keep the bubble inflating, but in doing so, robbing the poor of 50+% of their purchasing power in the next five years. So far, corporate-controlled governments have chosen option B, but are now signaling that they desperately need to raise rates to slow down inflation. However, there's no way their banker bosses will let them raise rates nearly as much as is needed to save the currency from depreciating. But if they keep robbing the poor via inflation, there will soon be mobs in the streets. Which also tends to crash markets…5. Everything elseThere are a ton of other factors that could lead to a huge market crash:A worsening USA-Ch!na relationshipA terrorist attackNew Covid variants (and over-responses from increasingly authoritarian governments)A major cyber-attackSocial unrest and protestsSupply chain disruptionsExtreme weather eventsContested elections and capitol battles on a scale we haven't seen since 1812Typically, one of these factors will set off a chain reaction that takes down the whole market.Remember: The dot-com bubble shaved 49% off of people's investments, and the S&P 500 dropped 57% in 2008 and millions lost their jobs and homes. The next crash will almost certainly be far worse, by many trillions. But the average house, stock, and crypto investor already knows all this… and they still don't care.Hot potatoThe game is simple. The birthday boy or girl starts with a beanbag or a balloon or a ball or — if you want a visit from child protection services — an actual piping hot potato.Mom or dad hits play on the music and the kids toss the scalding object around the circle, hoping not to be holding the tuber when the music stops. The music stops. Rory the fat kid gingerly holds the burning potato. All the other kids scream with delight as he's eliminated. This repeats until one kid is left and gets a grab-bag of sugar for his or her efforts.Adult speculators are the same way. They all know that houses, stocks, and crypto are overpriced. They know we're in a hysteria-driven bubble. They're holding on as long as they can, trying to squeeze as much unearned wealth out of society as possible. But unlike 2008, they think they'll be smart enough to sell right before the crash this time. But they won't (and mathematically can't.)Only one kid will be left with the spoils. And it won't be you.Just like hot potato, the vast majority will get burned and end up with nothing in the end. How to improve communication in your relationshipA healthy, successful relationship is built on a solid foundation of communication. However, it can be difficult to know where to start when trying to talk about your deepest feelings and desires with your partner. It's okay if you feel like things are going well between the two of you; there's always room for improvement. But before you can even think about changing things for the better, you have to know what you both want from your relationship. Here are some main points to consider when beginning conversations with your partner.Be specific and honest: it's important that both of you talk things through instead of leaving things vague and open-ended. If you start monologuing without giving your partner a chance to respond, it will be difficult for her to get a clear picture of what's going on in your mind or how she can try to help.Communicate openly and honestly: let your partner know what you feel comfortable sharing.
Power in relationships can be a very difficult and disturbing issue. Of course, if you have a Hijackal parent, partner, sibling, or adult child, you're well aware of that! This episode will give you new insights into solving ever-arising issues! My guest, Mira Kirschenbaum, wrote in Why Couples Fight: "A power move is anything we do or say that makes the other person feel disempowered." Of course, it's all in the perception, however, if each of us is careful not to purposefully say or do something that is designed to make another feel disempowered, it's a great start! So, are you responsible for feeling empowered? That's a big question we talk through during the episode. As Mira says in a recent article on her website: ChestnutHillInstitute.com : "If you have an 800-pound gorilla in your room--in this case, a gorilla of power imbalances and power struggles--you have to step up and make dealing with it a priority. Just the way you would if you came home and found an actual 800-pound gorilla in your room. The first step is just understanding the problem and taking it seriously. Then, doing what works to solve it." HIGHLIGHTS OF TODAY'S EPISODE:6 Signs Power Problems are Poisoning Your RelationshipThe smartest thing to do when you feel disempowered in a relationshipWhy creating distance can be destructive in relationships sometimesIdentifying power moves in you relationshipA 3-Step process for resolving relationship conflict Not all issues in a relationship have an equitable solution. Intro: There are so many "How to" books on the market such as how to be a good parent, how to have a good job, how to have a good marriage, and many more. We probably have more self help books published more than ever before and yet, in general, things are getting worse. It seems to me that the Bible has much to say about having a full life. I would love to suggest that if we ignore what the Bible says, we settle for cheap and temporary substitutes. A blind man discovered how to live a full life in John 9. As you know, this man was blind from birth. Jesus met him and restored the blindman's sight. This resulted in the Pharisees become infuriated because only God can heal... In this passage, Jesus plainly illustrates to the Pharisees that He is God in the flesh. He does this through the use of 2 illustrations; the gate and the good shepherd. In this encounter, Jesus reveals the simple and precious truth of the gospel. As He speaks, He also reveals the pride and nearsightedness of the Pharisees. True Shepherd vs. a False ShepherdJesus makes these statements and affirms them as absolute truth e.g. "Very truly..."A true shepherd enters the sheep pen by the gateThe sheep knows the voice of their true shepherdThey will follow the shepherd who calls themThey know each sheep by name e.g. there is a relationshipA false shepherd climbs in the pen in some other wayThey are not there to protect, nurture, or care for the sheepSheep will run from false shepherds because they do not know their voiceThey have no relationship with the sheep and they don't care for their welfareThey are there to steal and destroyThey are only interested in their own interests and greedThe Pharisees still didn't understandTrue shepherds protect, feed, and care for the sheep at the peril of the shepherd's own lifePharisees, false shepherds, lay unnecessary burdens of the people which only benefit the Pharisee and destroys the peopleJesus, the Only Way to a Full Life and FreedomJesus makes a very forceful statement which infuriates the Pharisees, "I am the gate for the sheep".Jesus makes this affirmation twiceWhen something is repeated, it is very importantHe says this statement is the absolute truthJesus, being fully God and fully man and our Great High Priest, is the only way to be saved e.g. reconciled to God, forgiven, free, and living a full lifeHe laid down His life for His sheep so that they might enter into eternal life by faith and repentanceAny other shepherd only brings destruction and death, not life and freedomJesus gives an open invitation to enter eternal life and forgiveness through the gate which is HimselfIn Christ, there is salvationIn Christ, there is the protection of the ShepherdHe will leads He will feed usHe will care for usHe protects us from the predator, SatinHe broke the power of sin and deathHe will discipline us to restore usOnce we enter through Him by faith and repentance, we have real freedom to lovingly obey the Shephard and live a full lifeClosing: You and I need to remember and meditate on these great "I Am" statements that Jesus made. It was the miracle of the incarnation that sent to us the Gate to eternal life and the freedom to live a full life. It was the miracle birth of Christ who sent into this sin sick world the Great Shepherd of our souls. The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Christ makes possible for everyone who repents and believes in the person and work of Jesus Christ to be forgiven and life a full life. As believers, there is something which is able to distract us from living freely for Christ. Unconfessed sin can break our fellowship with Jesus and thus distract us from living a full life in Christ. And so, we come to the Lord's Table. This is a sacred time during which we can have close communion with God through Jesus Christ. This is a time for reflection and asking Jesus to reveal unconfessed sin in our hearts. He can reveal this through His Word and the Holy Spirit. When that specific sin or sins are revealed, then we need to humbly ask God to help us turn from that sin because it hurts Him and others and ourselves. The Bible tells us that when we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleans us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9).

Trust and trusting people; a side story and warning Music: “Just A Blip” by Andy G. CohenFrom the Free Music ArchiveReleased under a Creative Commons Attribution International License - Loneliness exposes people to a diverse range of significant risks to mental and physical well- being. It affects people of all ages, but is often triggered by particular life events such as bereavement, poor health, or cognitive impairment. Facilitating social engagement in community activities to promote older people’s self-esteem can help build their resilience. This can then reduce the likelihood that they will respond to scams. Stockholm syndrome and providing support by being there for the victim. "Don't trust everything you see. Even salt looks like sugar" - Maryum Ahsam The phrase was reported to have been coined by criminologist and psychiatrist Nils Bejerot. It was formally named in 1973 when four hostages were taken during a bank robbery in Stockholm, Sweden. There are four key components that generally lead to the development of Stockholm syndrome: A hostage's development of positive feelings towards their captorNo previous hostage-captor relationshipA refusal by hostages to co-operate with police forces and other government authoritiesA hostage's belief in the humanity of their captor, for the reason that when a victim holds the same values as the aggressor, they cease to be perceived as a threat. "A classic example is domestic violence, when someone - typically a woman - has a sense of dependency on her partner and stays with him," says psychologist Jennifer Wild, a consultant clinical psychologist at the University of Oxford. "She might feel empathy rather than anger. Child abuse is another one - when parents emotionally or physically abuse their children, but the child is protective towards them and either doesn't speak about it or lies about it." "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to ruin it" - Warren Buffett If it seems to good to be true; it probably is. People can only offer and tempt you, it's your responsibility if you fell for it. To trust or not to trust, that is the question When in doubt, exercise caution. However, what usually happens to us is that the excitement of the new project makes us open ourselves up too much, to the point of sharing the wrong information with the wrong people. Take a step back and re-look. If it is REALLY as good as it seems, it can surely wait while you do some due digilience. After all; you owe it to yourself to be careful. "Trust yourself, you know more than you think you do." - Benjamin Spock Reliability is undoubtedly the cornerstone. Entrust your wishes and dreams with those who have shown you on other occasions that you can trust them, people that don’t judge you and that always accept you for who you are. Trust is to be earned Being guarded about whom I trust is not limited to money situations. I am also extremely careful to whom I provide information I would not want shared. I have learned the best way to keep information private is not to tell anyone, including those you trust.Let me also suggest being cautious of anyone who indicates any religious affiliation. While I am a person of faith, I don’t talk about my faith in business situations or when I am trying to earn someone’s trust. When people start talking about their faith in order to gain your trust, be extra careful. You have nothing to lose by being cautious, guarding your trust until people have proven they are trustworthy. At the same time, you have everything to lose, including your savings, damaged relationships, and your reputation, if you give away your trust easily. "Trust, but verify" - Ronald Reagan It doesn't make what was done right, but it does mean you should have been more careful. BUT we live and learn. Because all of us were once there and have failed too. So; don't be too hard on yourself, but you need to have learnt the lesson.

Grief is a normal and natural response to loss. Though we often expect to grieve the death of a family member or friend, many other significant losses can also trigger grief. Examples include: The end of a relationshipA move to a new communityA much-anticipated opportunity or life goal is suddenly closed to usThe death of a petSomeone we love contracts a potentially life-threatening illness Grieving such losses is important because it allows us to ‘free-up' energy that is bound to the lost person, object, or experience—so that we might re-invest that energy elsewhere. Until we grieve effectively we are likely to find reinvesting difficult; a part of us remains tied to the past. Grieving is not forgetting. Nor is it drowning in tears. Healthy grieving results in an ability to remember the importance of our loss—but with a newfound sense of peace, rather than searing pain. Join Dr. Darren as he guides us into the Heart of the Matter of the role our subconscious mind plays with Healthy Grieving. Infinite Love & Gratitude!
